Great food, great service. Found it by accident and I'm so glad I did. Perfect for a quick stop on the way to Denali from Anchorage. Got the Chicken Salad Sandwich and it was delicious! (Picture is of half the sandwich, I couldn't stop myself from diving in!)

    Choices!

I don't leave a lot of reviews, so for a place to be memorable enough for me to get off my lazy bum and write it MUST be good. My son and I were looking for a coffee and lite bite. We decided to split a sandwich and got the Buffalo Chicken along with a medium Chaga latte. Definitely could have taken the other half from him but he's bigger n me now! :-) Come check this place out of you are in the area. It's a great tasting hole in the wall with a personable staff and relaxing environment.

Such a cute coffee/cafe shop the staff is so sweet, friendly & humble. They were surprised that we found em on yelp. Delicious affogatos, kids had hot chocolates. They wanted whipped cream & sprinkles so whipped cream & sprinkles they got.

The exterior doesn't look as inviting, but inside has this cute modern rustic decor that's inviting.

Trivia: What's the AK in cAKe stand for?…read more Hodgepodge of merchandise. Aprons, journals, coasters, and paintings. Even fancy flasks for, you know Very clean and bright. The merchandise is well organized. The desserts are less organized and some, un-labeled. Maybe on purpose so the customer asks about them? "Oh, what is that?!" Which might be okay if the staff was a little more helpful. See below. I've found that the desserts, while very pretty, unique, and decorative, taste more bland than I expect them to. I guess I just expect more pop in flavor. I've picked up dessert, or eaten in three total times. The first time in was a chocolate cupcake that was rather bland. Then it was a bourbon tart that was sort of crunchy, sort of soft, and lacking any bourbon flavor. I found myself worried I'd chip a tooth because some bites were "caramel hardened" hard and others sort of soft. The third was a piece of coconut cake that was spot on, moist, and so tasty. Meanwhile, service was also just okay. Just sort of apathetic? Maybe attempting to not be overbearing? No suggestions. Limited descriptions of unmarked desserts when prompted about them. Also, it would be nice if they had decaf espresso. I've always stopped by in the evening and coffee sounds great with the desserts. But not at the expense of being stuck up late.

On my visit I decided on the oatmeal raisin cookies and the carrot cake, two of my favorites. Let me tell you, I was not disappointed! The cookies a perfect combination of oats, raisins and crunch. The wisdom of decor and other touches makes for a lovely mood--allowing you a pleasant visit with your companions without intrusions from neighboring tables. Service staff are very attentive, though they'll intuitively allow you to enjoy your meal without interrupting conversations. Another unique touch for an Alaskan restaurant: when you order multiple courses, they don't all arrive at the same time--BRAVO! (that issue is epidemic statewide) If you're short on time and want to visit Rome for a day, Nonna's Carbonara will take you there! Once you're finished, something from their dessert selection will give you a taste of the divine. Buon appetito!

The interior design could use some work except the little fireplace nook they have is super cute. They had a Christmas tree that was only half lit and decorated which was weird. We got coffees; two sunrise sandwiches and the potato soup in a bread bowl. Both the sandwiches were very good! Definitely a great spot for them and with any of the bread choices, which there are MANY! I'll absolutely come back for them! The bread bowl is just white bread which was disappointing as I thought they'd have a sourdough option. The bread was super doughy inside as if the soup had been sitting in it for hours or it wasn't baked all the way through and it tasted like it was missing salt maybe. The soup was fine, nothing great but not bad. Similar to what you may buy canned at the grocery store. The coffee didn't come out until we were about ready to leave which I expected as it seemed they had barely 2-3 people working at one time. If they did more bread bowl options, experimented with the soup flavors more (or start making it homemade if they buy it commercially), and redecorated, I'd 100% give this place 5 stars. Regardless, great place for sandwiches and coffee and I'll totally be back!

Thank you guys for always being consummate professionals and creating Joy whenever I come in and bringing a smile to my face in big ways and small. We walk into a great view of a small but pleasant lake out side of a large dining area. They have a spacious bar that seats 12 and and coincidentally 12 wonderful beers on tap. Unfortunately the liquor selection is really thin but it looks poised to fill. I ordered a Elysian Space Dust IPA. It came fairly quickly considering the soft opening jitters. Thankfully the cold glass and great beer made the long wait for food relaxing. The owner introduced herself and did her best to acknowledge the 1st day bumps but brush off the stress. The cowboy burger finally arrived! 1/2 lb patty stuffed with brisket on a on a fresh hearty homemade bun, offered up with the traditional offerings. The 1/2 lb patty was really small and didn't come close to filling the bun, but it was thick and stuffed full of deliciousness. The plus side.... it was damn good.
