Trivia: What's the AK in cAKe stand for?…read more Hodgepodge of merchandise. Aprons, journals, coasters, and paintings. Even fancy flasks for, you know Very clean and bright. The merchandise is well organized. The desserts are less organized and some, un-labeled. Maybe on purpose so the customer asks about them? "Oh, what is that?!" Which might be okay if the staff was a little more helpful. See below. I've found that the desserts, while very pretty, unique, and decorative, taste more bland than I expect them to. I guess I just expect more pop in flavor. I've picked up dessert, or eaten in three total times. The first time in was a chocolate cupcake that was rather bland. Then it was a bourbon tart that was sort of crunchy, sort of soft, and lacking any bourbon flavor. I found myself worried I'd chip a tooth because some bites were "caramel hardened" hard and others sort of soft. The third was a piece of coconut cake that was spot on, moist, and so tasty. Meanwhile, service was also just okay. Just sort of apathetic? Maybe attempting to not be overbearing? No suggestions. Limited descriptions of unmarked desserts when prompted about them. Also, it would be nice if they had decaf espresso. I've always stopped by in the evening and coffee sounds great with the desserts. But not at the expense of being stuck up late.

On my visit I decided on the oatmeal raisin cookies and the carrot cake, two of my favorites. Let me tell you, I was not disappointed! The cookies a perfect combination of oats, raisins and crunch. The carrot cake firm yet soft and moist and the perfect amount of cream cheese icing. I've tried a few cake shops in the Anchorage metro area but this one blows them all away.

U select the flavors, cup or waffle cones and add-ons or you can choose one of the many combinations that they have posted on the walls. Each month they have at least two special flavors with ingredients to choose from. They have a showcase with 12 different flavors and you can select one or more flavors or the listed combinations. The ice cream is rich, creamy and firm when served but be careful as it melts very fast. I have never seen ice cream that melted that fast except in burning hot climates. If you're picking them up to take home be sure to have a container to put them in unless you like to wear the ice cream. Even the cups with plastic lids will leak. The service varies by the amount of customers standing inline. The servers are always friendly and as efficient as possible. There is limited seating available so most is choose and carry or home delivery. Never have we tried home delivery because I am little Leary of the melt factor and time to deliver. They have a small selection of ice cream cakes, cup cakes and frozen treats in a glass refrigerator in front. I have had their cakes, cupcakes and some of the treats. They are very good but pricy. You pay for the work the staff has to do to make them. They have a loyalty program that you earn points and discounts on your purchase price. If you patronize them and sign up for text messages it can be very worthwhile. Parking is not a problem usually and it is free in shopping center lot. I highly recommend Cold Stone for the quality and price of their products and services. They accept card cards, cash and have a single bathroom used by all customers.

The wisdom of decor and other touches makes for a lovely mood--allowing you a pleasant visit with your companions without intrusions from neighboring tables. Service staff are very attentive, though they'll intuitively allow you to enjoy your meal without interrupting conversations. Another unique touch for an Alaskan restaurant: when you order multiple courses, they don't all arrive at the same time--BRAVO! (that issue is epidemic statewide) If you're short on time and want to visit Rome for a day, Nonna's Carbonara will take you there! Once you're finished, something from their dessert selection will give you a taste of the divine. Buon appetito!
