This restaurant is light-years ahead of its predecessor, when it was only a hotel buffet. Most of our experiences have been good. But do NOT order the shrimp and scallop pasta. Even though I specifically asked for al dente, and also stressed to the waitress I'd rather the pasta is undercooked than overcooked, it came out like the typical American restaurant pasta mush that dissolves in your mouth. You should be able to bite into pasta, not feel it dissolve on your tongue - besides the fact overcooked pasta has a higher glycemic index, which contributes to overeating and weight gain, and is therefore less healthy. Additionally, it was not "topped" with sauce, but rather it looked like pasta soup. And there shouldn't be so much cheese in pasta sauce that it forms strings when you raise your fork to your mouth. Way too much Parmesan cheese, so it masked the other flavors that should have been there. Since the sauce flavor was ok (but not spectacular since the primary overwhelming flavor was the Parmesan) we boxed the rest of the sauce after I attempted to finish my overcooked and texture deficient pasta. A couple nights later we cooked a full pound of pasta (correctly) at home and were able to eat four servings with the leftover sauce! So there was enough sauce in one dish for the equivalent of five people! That's just ridiculous. So our recommendation: 1) cook the pasta correctly, 2) reduce the cheese in the sauce, 3) reduce the sauce to 20% of what you currently serve - you can serve five times as many people with the same amount of sauce, and actually drop the price of this dish to something more reasonable, and you'll still come out ahead. That's our two cents from having dined in three dozen countries, all fifty states, and having even taken cooking lessons in Italy. read more

Wow, a friend wanted to go here and after see the reviews I was less than excited especially after looking at the prices. What an incredible surprise. I don't know how I could give this place higher praise after the incredibly tasty meal we were served. We started with the Calamari and also the Empanadas for the table. I've had Empanadas at least 40-50 different times and locations all over the world No joke these were the tastiest ones I have ever had. I crispy initial bite followed by a soft warm/hot filling that was packed with goodness The green sauce was so good I forgot to try the whiter sauce. I would literally come back just for these as they were out of the world delicious. The calamari was tasty and prepared well not over cooked or undercooked. The chef prepared them well but my focus was on the Empanadas so I hardly ate any Calamari. Then came the entrees and I was blown away at the Seafood Linguini. The scallops & , shrimp-were perfectly cooked in a rich and creamy sauce that was Devine. It struck the perfect balance of a delicious garlic, buttery goodness with the cream. Just the right amount of sauce that every bite was covered in sauce but somehow it packed a punch of flavor in every bite. I wish tomorrow wasn't my last day in Wasilla before heading home because I could come to this place everyday I was so good. Now for the final treat, the view. Nestled on a hill overlooking this beautiful lake with mountains in the background I'm struggling to paint a picture worthy of that view. When I first arrived I thought to myself this place must survive purely on the views given the bad reviews. Not at all, even though I would put this view as my top 2-3 ever at a restaurant ( Compared to a Michelin restaurant in Cannes France overlooking the Ocean, a restaurant at the top of a mountain in Keystone Colorado, and this place all breathtaking. Having said that, I actually think the food was better than the view if that's possible. Next time I make it back to Alaska, this place will be my first stop for certain. I sure hope when I make it back in a year or two it's performing at this level because this was an experience I won't soon forget. If you're on the fence based on reviews, do yourself a favor and at least try the Empanadas or Seafood Linguini. These are unforgettable! read more

We recently celebrated a special occasion at Chop House and honestly... we were kicking ourselves for waiting so long to try it! From the moment we arrived, the atmosphere felt elevated but still welcoming, perfect for a celebration. The setting by the lake adds such a beautiful touch, even in the winter and the whole experience just felt a little extra special. The menu has something for everyone, from incredible steaks to fresh seafood, and you can really tell they focus on quality ingredients and thoughtful preparation. Everything we ordered was delicious, and the portions were generous without feeling overdone. The service was attentive and friendly without being intrusive, which made the evening even more enjoyable. This is definitely a place we'll be coming back to and recommending to friends and family. If you've been thinking about trying it, don't wait like we did... it's absolutely worth it! read more

My husband and I eloped and went to the Chop House after our ceremony for our celebratory dinner, and it could not have been a more perfect choice! The staff was absolutely wonderful and genuinely seemed excited to share in our special day with us. Everything flowed seamlessly from drinks to appetizers to our main course, and we never once felt rushed. We were able to relax, enjoy our dinner, and soak in the whole experience. The food was fantastic, the service was exceptional, and the view isn't too shabby either! Overall, a **15/10 experience**. We would absolutely recommend the Chop House whether you're looking for a casual night out, a date night, or, like us, the perfect place to celebrate after eloping. It really was such a special ending to an already unforgettable day! read more

4stars for food. However I would say bartender was not good. She didn't apparently feel the need to tell me about specials, drinks, pairings- as she did the two couples older than me that came in. Checked on me none. Ordered carpaccio and an entree. It was good. However the 3 stars are for the service. I was really interested in whiskey, and asked and she ignored gave a simple answer and moved on. Would have loved to have a few pricey whiskeys for taste. She unfortunately did not upsale me. Do better. read more

Beautiful view but ruined by the hostess' unwelcoming and nasty attitude. Our food was delivered cold and underwhelming for the price.

This is one of the most upscale restaurants in the valley. The food is kinda spendy for just a Tuesday night dinner! I feel like this is where you go when you are having a night out on the town. Maybe a date night Everything is on point and is definitely a top contender for best restaurant in the valley. The lunch and burgers are out of this world and less costly read more

Service, food quality, and atmosphere are good. The sandwiches and burgers are a real draw for our family. I really wish the other dishes would get a reboot though. The menu prices are really high for entrees and the steaks, which come with no side dishes. Adding a side, like a bake potato will cost you another $12-16. Buying a steak for $40+ should come with a basic side dish like a bake potato or grilled vegetables. read more

Fantastic gluten-free option + unreal dessert I had such a great experience here. I ordered the gluten-free pasta (no olives) and it was fantastic--full of flavor, perfectly cooked, and didn't feel like a "compromise" dish at all. You can tell real care went into the seasoning and sauce. And then... the peanut butter pie. Wow. Absolutely incredible. Rich, creamy, and perfectly balanced--not overly sweet, just straight-up indulgent in the best way. One of those desserts you're still thinking about the next day. Great food, great execution, and I'd 100% come back--especially for that pie. * will be back for more * worth the ride * highly recommended read more

Recently took my niece to a birthday dinner and the appetizers, non alcoholic drinks were crafty and the rest of the food was pretty good, unfortunately I ordered a $65.00 ribeye and it was butchered uneven, less than an inch thick in the middle and tapered down on one side and one of the ends also over cooked, I ordered rare but due to the uneven cut only the middle ended medium rare, flavor was good but just not worth the money in my opinion, ended up spending over $400.00 for 2 Adults and 2 kids, I ended up taking most of the steak home to make a sandwich for lunch the next day. Staff and servers were awesome and attentive and received a well deserved tip, you should always take care of the servers when they rock it as well as these folks did. Taking into consideration the appetizers, mocktails and rest of the food as well as the awesome service our meal was still really good. Not my first visit, had the lamb shank last time that was impressive and should have ordered again, we will probably go again but I will stay away from the steaks. read more

Hi, I'm Mike and I hate buffets.....but not this buffet! The Chop House Mother's Day Brunch Buffet. You know you're good when you can maintain the Chop House quality in buffet style service. Prime Rib to scrambled eggs. Chicken Oscar and Eggs Benedict. An Omelet station, chilled prawns oysters, and a "tonato sauce that was delicious. There were even Dino Nuggets and Tots for the kids Desserts! The Chop House Pastry Chef is amazing, makes the best cheesecake I've had (other than my own) and out did themselves today. Probably the best crème brûlée I've ever had! Bread and spread and Calimari were excellent. My friends enjoyed their favorites the 10oz tenderloin filets and my wife really liked her elk burger however she is really big on Hot Carbs so when the fries are served luke warm it really bums her out. I ordered the $75 bone in Ribeye which was fatty and not seasoned very well and I even had to salt in down. The meat was tough and almost hard to cut with my steak knife. Definitely not worth the $75 price tag. Beautiful atmosphere inside but it seems like they play the music so loud that everyone needs to talk above the music so it got extremely loud in there. Excellent service though our waitress was a seasoned service and was very knowledgeable about the dishes. read more

Went here after work one day, ordered off the bar menu in the bar, it was not bad. Brought my family back for birthday celebrations at lunch, it was sub-par and some just inedible or not worth eating. I expect when I pay the prices they taunt for the food to be correspondingly as good as the price. It was not. The appetizer (of which there were very few choices) we chose was calamari. It was like rubber O rings you would buy at a hardware store. French dip had very little meat and was salty. Halibut still had grease eeking out of it when you would take a bite. Staff came around just enough times to serve you but service was nothing over the top. Honestly, probably will not be back, even tho the bar bites were way better than their regular menu. Way over hyped. read more

On my family's adventure from Tucson, Arizona to Wasilla, Alaska we went to the chophouse for dinner with friends. I was told there's often live music playing, and when we were in the dining room, I didn't see live music, but it sounded like there was live music playing somewhere . My friend had gone to some sort of tasting event and was excited to enjoy their craft cocktail selection. I ordered a bourbon based drink, sour apple pie cocktail. It was outstanding without being overly sweet . We started with the appetizers of calamari, and multigrain bread a variety of spreads. At my friends recommendation I ordered the elk burger for dinner. It was served with french fries and it was pretty tasty. My fries came out just warm. I think that they were prepared and waiting on a hot plate. I know I'm very particular about my french fries and the french fries had a nice coating on them that generally I would like except they just weren't served hot. My two buddies that we went with both ordered a filet mignon. My husband went with his standard the ribeye. We all finished our plates and just luxuriated in a wonderful meal. As it was our third wedding anniversary, our friends had noted this on the reservation. As a result we were treated with a free dessert of crème brûlée. When it arrived it was served with fresh berries and it was just perfection. I just love the atmosphere of the restaurant. Our server was so helpful. My buddies ask several questions about the sauces that came with our dish. My friend had ordered a onion cheese pie starter, which we all had a little slice of it came with what we thought was an aïoli. When we asked our waitress about the sauce, she checked and quickly replied "they said oh that's just sour cream." Some things are pretty unbelievable because it tasted fantastic. I most certainly would want to return my next visit to Alaska. It was a very memorable experience. We concluded our meal with cheesecake based on Mike D's recommendation. It was awesome and was especially a creamy version of cheesecake. We had to take most of it home. A wonderful atmosphere , wonderful staff, and excellent food. read more

I came here with my cousin without reservation, and sat at the bar. The service from the bartenders was very amiable, and the views behind us through the large windows showed the lake and mountains. Food was good. Drinks were expensive and not included, even the juice. Waiters were attentive. Scenery was excellent.

Finally got to try this Lake Lucille steakhouse. I planned to try them out last summer during my birthday but they were closed for a private event. I made reservations online, for their Mother's Day brunch. The only hiccup we faced was, no one answered the phone twice, when we tried to let them know we were running 15-20min late. But as soon as the time of our reservation came around, the hostess called us and tried to scold us for not letting them know we'd be late....annoying! We get there and all is well. Plenty of seating. I get it, it's Mother's Day, it's busy, but Chop House wasn't slammed enough to be that petty over the phone. Nothing could ruin my vibe. It was a beautiful sunny Sunday and Chop House is absolutely stunning inside and out! Our server and all other employees encountered were phenomenal. It was a bougie vibe all around. We had lake front seating. Chop House even had a saxophone player in the corner playing all the millennial hits lol The buffet was perfect. Unlike every other buffet I've ever sought out, THIS ONE included chicken tendys and fries for my son. So grateful! Please keep doing that. I also appreciated that Chop House had a kids cost and an adult cost. Some of these fancy brunches are just not affordable if you consider how much of the menu, the kids won't touch. I can't wait to return to try their dinner menu! read more

Beautiful setting and nicely decorated restaurant. The bar is impressive. The service was terrible and extremely slow. While our waitress was very nice there were no busboys/busgirls to clear dishes there were tons of staff just standing around doing nothing. We had to wait for everything for a long time. The food was good, nicely presented, and the menu is varied. I found the food overpriced. No substitutions allowed ( French fries instead of mashed potatoes ) not allowed. Don't bring children under the age of 10. read more

Come for the views, stay for the fare. On a clear day, the views are spectacular. Mountains and water (well a frozen lake, but water nonetheless). Get an earlier reservation to enjoy a view without all the accidental eye contacts with other tables. The tots are special. Homemade and enduringly tasty, I think the only complaint will be the portion to price ratio. Eight tots for 15 bucks makes each tot nearly two dollars. I'd be crazy to order them again, right? Good wine and libation selection. They had a bourbon I'd never heard of before. They let me take a closer look. Our waitress was very accommodating. When we asked for a salad to share, she offered to split the salad. Both salads were put together with care and attention to detail. They were also VERY tasty. Substitutions were given with ease. As for main dishes, I think there will be multiple tasty looking items. The steak options did not disappoint. Tender and accompanied by scrumptious sauces. The horseradish mashed potatoes are a unique and savory twist on an overplayed side. Will 100% visit again. read more

Count me in for a trip back to the chop house for the food and beautiful location. Nestled on the beach the views visible through floor to ceiling windows offer a stunning backdrop. While expensive, the food was flavorful and had great vegetarian and meat options. The daily soup was a great way to warm up after walking the grounds. The non-alcohol mocktail was tasty, however the alcohol mixed drink was difficult to drink. The drink tasted like nearly pure vodka and bitters with nothing else mixed in. I would not come back to order drinks but would come back for the food and scenery. read more

I was searching for a place to have dinner. Yelp suggested, that this place is good and that I should go. I went on a date and it was a good restaurant and the service was good. Joe took the time to go over the menu and the specials. We first had the bone marrow and it was good and the flavor was there to impress. I then had a salad with a champagne poppy seed vinaigrette which had a great taste. I had the pepper steak with carrots and mashed potatoes. My date, had Delmonico and it was a big piece of steak. She spoke highly of the food and clearly she enjoyed it. Then we had the Chocolate dessert and she loved it. It was enough chocolate and not over powering. The restaurant has very wide open spaces and it is very spacious. The booths are shaped in a U form and they fit plenty of people so if you have a large party, they can accomodate. read more

Came here twice and both times the service wasn't very good even though the place wasn't that busy. It would take sooooo long for us to get anything, water, food, the bill. I thought it was a 1 off thing so we decided to give it another try the next day and still the same thing which sucks because the view is beautiful and the food is actually pretty good. Was able to take a few photos outdoors and this is simply a beautiful place to post on Insta. Went with the Fish and Chips, Salmon, Calamari and wings which were all good. The wings were probably my favorite though. Most of the cocktails were tasty as well, would come back if the service was stepped up a bit read more

The service was great, and the waitress was knowledgeable, and helpful. All the staff appeared to be working hard and friendly. The food was delicious, and maybe our seasonal vegetables could have been slightly softer. The steak was excellent, and done to perfection. The cost was definitely $$$ so please take note. But my husband and I were celebrating 45 years of marriage, and the Restaurant made us feel happy and honored. And we really appreciated that little touch in the reservation process. I would recommend the Chop House Alaska. Enjoy a cocktail or one of the local ales on tap. I enjoyed the window view, and light in the restaurant. In my hundreds of reviews, I would have to say, possibly, this tops the cake, hands down for probably the worst, most comical, is this really happening service I have EVER experienced. It was so bad, our frustrations turned into laughter. We ordered about 3 different times... she would take our order then come back to ask us again "if we were ready to order" and we would tell her again, but the best part, we orderd an appetizer, then she came back two more times to confirm if we really wanted that? It was the most exhausting dinner of my life. Then dinner came and the $16 side was forgotten (shocker) and we waited to eat our dinner until that came out. The food... eek. I never ever order scallops because they're so expensive but figured, what the heck, I'll splurge tonight and for $48 freaking dollars, I got three scallops. THREE. But the best part was, they came out so burnt, you could not cut them with a knife so I had to return the food and get a new plate and then the scallops came out raw and I just quit sending the food back. All in all, this restaurant is connected to a best western, so the name is misleading. A chophouse is supposed to be a yummy steak house and instead was equivalent to a hotel Denny's. Again, I apologize for leaving a bad review because it's never my intention, but the service and the food was laughable and for a $200 bill to leave hungry and annoyed, I would recommend going elsewhere. read more

This place gets 2 stars because the views and the restaurant is nice and clean.. This is a below average restaurant that is charging an arm and a leg to eat there. When the place opened my wife and I were so excited, we live on lake Lucille a place we can pull our boat up to awesome right?!?! We ordered salads for lunch total came out to 45$ for a simple lunch. Yes I get prices and cost are getting high but for 2 salads that's ridiculous. Went for dinner one evening and ordered the specials that weren't so special, tri tip was so bland its was embarrassing, sides were microscopic no value at all. Steak was probably the worst steak I've ever eaten at a restaurant ever they completely butchered the cook, along with adding no seasoning, and the steak was chewy. Wife ordered a steak salad and the steak was the same not sure if the cook was allergic to flavor and seasoning. Drinks that are 17$ for low quality Alcohol is embarrassing, beers that are 9$ when the same drink across the road is 4$ is sad. Save your money go to evertts or settlers bay. Sad to see such a beautiful location go to waste. read more

Located in the Best Western Lake Lucille. I stayed here for the week for a business trip. Had dinner here twice. First time, I had a half dozen oysters on the half shell. They were huge snd delicious. Followed that up with cedar plank baked salmon with veggies and rice. Another delicious dish. Second night I had the $46 prime rib special. 14oz cut with mashed potatoes and veggies. The prime rib was tender and delicious. Chop House is, well, we will NEVER go back. The food is way overpriced for what it is. Edible, but not anything to tell your friends about. Took my best friend there and we were definitely not impressed. Spent $200 and were TOLD to leave as they needed the table, we had been there for an hour and a half. Fairly typical for a supposed fine dining experience with wine, meal and desert. There were 5 empty tables near us. No, we weren't rude or loud or obnoxious. We are two 50 plus ladies. My friend tried it again with her family and said the food was terrible and the service worse. She, too, will never go back. Simply because we live in the Valley, in Alaska, doesn't mean that we do not know the difference between fine dining and diner food with a high price. Knowing that Settler's Bay has the same ownership explains why my husband and I no longer consider Settler's as a dining destination. The change in ownership was obvious the first time we went after the change. We are going out to dinner on my birthday...we are going to 7 Glaciers at Alyeska, where they know how to cook and treat people. read more

I went to Chop house for Valentine's Day. It was a pretty big let down. It was a $95 a plate. The food was bland and a BUFFET! I didn't even have the option of choosing from a menu and as a slope worker I've had just as good food up north on a holiday if not better honestly. Most of the food was all large scale food ordered from Charlie's produce (assuming). Higher end stuff but definitely not prepared well or worth the $240 dinner. I won't be back for a holiday again...
