I've lived in Anchorage for five years and had no idea this place even existed! Apparently, bands come here to play and take over the place at night. I wasn't sure if it was just for resort guests or if locals could come too, so I asked--and turns out, I could! It's $10 per person. I was absolutely blown away when I went upstairs--the architecture, paintings, and black lights at night bring the space to life. They even have an outdoor area with fire pits lit up. This is such a hidden gem for local Alaskans! Sometimes, it's hard to find great bands and live music in the area, so driving an hour down to Girdwood is totally worth it. The staff was awesome, the beer was great, and the sound and acoustics were on point. All in all, an amazing experience--I highly recommend it!! read more

Stopped by Sitzmark Bar and Grill during a ski day at Alyeska since it's conveniently located on the resort grounds--and honestly, when options are limited, it's one of those "it'll do" spots. I ordered the chicken wings (teriyaki and chipotle BBQ) and the tempura cauliflower. The wings had decent flavor, but unfortunately, they were served cold, which really brought the experience down. The cauliflower didn't resemble tempura in texture--more like a lightly fried, slightly spicy snack. Not bad, just not what I expected. Service is basically DIY--you get your own water from a fountain and need to ask for utensils even after your food arrives. It's not full-service, so be prepared for a more hands-off experience. The vibe inside? A bit chaotic and cluttered, but I will say the ceiling decorations are fun and unique, giving the place some personality amidst the mess. Overall, if you're hungry after skiing and don't feel like venturing out of the resort, Sitzmark will feed you--but don't expect to be wowed. The food is just ok, pretty much everything is fried and bar food. The salad was literally shredded lettuce you'd get on a burger or taco. I was really disappointed in that. The chicken wings I was hoping weren't also fried but they were had a ton of fat on the chicken which I thought was odd and I've never experienced that. The only reason I'll give them 3 stars is the service. We always had a good server or bar tender. The live music here is kinda fun as well. read more

With the best will in the world, i can only give a generous 3 stars. Anyway, so my review. My favourite things about Sitzmark are the view out the windows, and the gorgeous artistic ceiling. The food is average at best. So thats a star for the view, a star for the nice crispy fries, a star for the service. I was out of breath by the time i climbed the hill up from the parking lot, and then up the flight of stairs, and then there was no host at the stand, which was annoying so we just seated ourselves. This place is not for the old, fat and unfit, which is me. It's a while since i was in, back when i was skinny and could bound up the stairs. (It's actually Tuesday and they are marked as closed on Yelp. Hours need updated) MY crispy spicy chicken wrap was nothing to write home about - only ok, and i certainly couldn't give a good comment about the quality of the chicken, as it was somewhat difficult to locate. Husbands fish and chips - that batter was awful. Very greasy. I come from England, and between eating a ton of Indian food, and fish and chips, i am qualified to say this batter is some of the worst I've ever tasted, the reason being that the oil wasn't hot enough, and caused the batter to absorb a hefty quantity of the grease. Most unpleasant. We weren't given napkins by the person who brought the food (Who was not the server taking our order) and they had no tartare sauce left. Our server came by, noticed we didn't have napkins, and he got some for us. I think this place's target market is the skiers and snowboarders who you can see outside, locals who drink at the bar, and maybe tourists who take pictures of the ceiling. The Sitz Burg, a cheese burger on a Brioche bun is a keystone burger and a must for any visit. The buns are buttered and lightly toasted and really compliment the flavor of the slaw and provolone. I'm drooling writing about it, haha. Now the best part, get some of their signature Sweet Potato Fries. The SP fries come with a slightly spicy dipping sauce and they are my favorite thing on the menu. Pair all this with a Kenia Red (draft beer) and you got it! Fun kinda relaxed place, check out the ceiling. Staff are friendly but it can get very busy on good snow days, so plan ahead and be patient. Weekends they have live music. It can get a bit tight to move but the atmosphere is always fun. Enjoy y'all. read more

2.75 stars. It's difficult to rate the Sitzmark. On one hand the artistic kaleidoscope-like interior ceiling is cool to sit under and the view of the mountain is gorgeous. They're offering a pretty good selection of drinks for your apres. Also, my server was also the bartender and I thought he was great, efficient. But the other hand... draft beers are hit and miss as far as coldness. The empty tabletop I sat at in the bar area was dirty and sticky. The general cleanliness of the place was mediocre. I saw flies inside the restaurant. The food I tried was not delicious. I ordered "KFC - Korean Fried Cauliflower". The pieces of cauliflower where much too big for bite-size. I had to cut them in thirds to eat them. The cauliflower was a little too firm, and the tempura coating left a odd chalky taste in my mouth. I liked the flavor of the brown sauce on the outside, but that's the only good thing. The menu describes the KFC having "candied sesame seeds and chives" but the sesame seeds used to garnish this were plain, as you can see in my close-up photo. They also used green onion, not a delicate tender chive. It's arguably a small inconsistency, but if that is what you put on the menu, it is what you should serve. Cheese Curds were crunchy and tasty. It could've used a pinch of salt and/or pepper. The marinara was served warm, and tasted fresh. But the plastic cups of Heinz ranch tasted awful. This dish shouldn't have costed over $10. I will say the food came out fast. It was just not that remarkable. Conclusion: Perfect spot for a just-off-the-slopes apres beer on the deck in the fresh air. If you get hungry and are wanting something impressive to eat, avoid this food and walk down the block to Jack Sprat. read more

Sitzmark is better for a place to hang out, get some drinks, and enjoy whatever nighttime event they have going on. It was Trivia Tuesday when we went. The place was packed and fun. If I was only reviewing Sitzmark as a bar, I would give it a 5. But, I'm reviewing the food too. Chili - Pretty good. I would get it again. Fish n chips - Absolutely not. The fish was arguably the worst looking fish I've seen. Please do not get the fish n chips. Kids sliders - I thought they looked good, but my 10 year old did not like them. So we were here for my birthday weekend. The weather on the mountain was awful so we spent most of our time in doors. Just a bad winter for Alaska. Not the resort's fault. We showed up for lunch and Brittney (sp?) took care of us and even remember us from an event the night before at the top of the mountain. She is very nice and was running that bar with gusto. We had some wings and the fried cauliflower. I wish I had taken photos but I didn't. The wings were huge and the sauce was great (sesame teriyaki) but the cauliflower was my favorite. Surprising to me as I usually am not "blown away" by cauliflower flavor, but they tasted like spicy chicken nuggets. Comes with a citrus dressing and garlic aioli. We didnt care for the dressing and if I could make a recommendation to management, I'd remove that and add ranch or something else. It really just doesn't fit with the dish is all. I like the venue here because it's one of the few places you can watch some of the better runs on the mountain and they were set up for slalom racing. We spent a few hours there drinking and hanging out with the other skiers. Good vibes, good food, good music, good beer. I'd go back. read more

Sitting at the base of Chair 3 it's the Bar & Grill that feeds your need for liquid courage and eats to keep you skiing or boarding! Not to mention it's loud because it's exciting and happening! Live bands here too! Last time we saw two ladies from Down Under a week back! Cool and Snow Hipster! Everyone rocks the new clothes, like Patagonia, North Face, Smith, Oakley everyone's in their snow bunny suits. Lots of people walking funky in their snow boots. This place you see folks you know all the time. Co-workers, friends, family and everyone is having a brew, cocktail, good bar grub like wings and grilled chicken nachos. They have local brews, that we gravitate to and Classic PBR on tap by the pitcher for your group if you roll that way. If you ski here, you rest here to get your 2nd or 3rd wind. Full bar, lots of tables, booths, TV's with sports on them and when it's night the painted ceiling from a local artist is lit up with black lights and the different colored paints glow psychedelic. The only downside is that it get super crowded during meals and it's a seat yourself restaurant so you have to wait around and stalk someone to get a seat. read more

I waited 40 min for a drink that the server forgot I even ordered. Food is really slow to come out. Our server was rarely anywhere to be found. The atmosphere and location are the saving graces here. First time to Girdwood and to this establishment. Let's start first with the host and wait times. Was told originally it would be 10 minutes which turned into 40, even after asking about vacant tables. Next was the ordering where the waitress Holly rudely told my wife to look at the menu for what to order even though we had one menu for 10 people and my wife also took a photo so was ordering from the menu. Next came the inattentive service. Having to ask for refills after placed at the edge of the table for over 30 minutes. Food took just at an hour from time of ordering, which if it was fine dining is understandable but when it's burgers fries and chicken strips it becomes unacceptable. I was about to leave when they brought the food out so we stayed. Granted the food was on par nothing insanely good but decent. When it was time to pay I was so over this event that I mistakenly put .15 cents as a tip vs 15 percent. After I paid I walked out needing to leave this environment. My wife and family friends were still at the table. This is when the waitress Holly came over and said that I made a mistake on her tip. Which granted I did. But also said some other rude thing to my party because of this. My wife still tipped her prior to them leaving but I and my family will not visit this establishment again. It's a great venue to get out of town (but not too far out of town) and see a band. The service is rather mediocre and tap selection is just OK. I get the vibe that you have to be part of the Girdwood community to get the attention of the bartenders here. This place has the potential to be a fantastic venue due to it's scenic location and beautiful interior. The ceiling alone is to die for. However, because this bar is one of the only late-night options for Girdwood, it tends to be slammed most of the time. Basically, it's an introvert's worst nightmare. As an introvert myself, I can attest to this. EXTREMELY loud. Something about the acoustics of the place just makes it nearly impossible to hold any kind of conversation unless it's literally dead inside. But, if you are so lucky as to stumble across it during non-peak hours, I believe it's worth your while. It has a full bar as well as a decent menu. I love their soft pretzel sticks in particular. Don't expect great service during peak hours, either. My 10 yo son has just started skiing. We were able to watch him on the slopes whilst sitting in this bar eyeballing all the skiers as they came down. On an outing today and we decided to make a stop at Alyeska and find a spot for lunch. This spot is set in the beautiful ski lodge so we enjoyed watching the skiers while we ordered and ate our meal. So once you enter the building you have to wind your way around to where the bar/grill is. Once we made it to the dining area we sort of just stood there a few minutes waiting to me seated. There was no sign to seat yourself or wait to we played it safe and waited. Eventually I went to the bar and asked the girl just standing there looking at us what the deal was and she said seat ourselves (get a sign!) so we chose a table close to the huge windows so we could enjoy the sights. Our server came over pretty quick and took our drink order. We ordered two cheeseburgers, one with sweet potato fries and one with regular fries and a grilled cheese with bison chili. The food came out pretty quick, about 10 minutes. Immediately I noticed the burger was overcooked. The sweet potato fries were soggy, likely because the grease wasn't hot enough. I couldn't eat them. The grilled cheese was too much, so much cheese it was oozing out and she had to pull half of it out of the sandwich. The toppings were very fresh at all, I ended up not even using them because it was all old and wilted. This is a cool spot but the food really missed them mark. I expected something more being at a beautiful resort, this was nothing more than typical bar food at resort prices. Could be so much better! read more

It was all going good till one security guard told me I could smoke weed if I went outside the beer area, so I did, and then 10 minutes later, other security is asking to search me and kicking me out. We came here for drinks but it ended up being a watch party for a new skiing video. The server was nice and the place was eclectic. They had a never ending raffle (in a good way) was about 10 prizes. It's not far from the place we're staying at, and the ski resort offers complimentary shuttles. I'm really happy we stumbled into this bar! What the heck? This place is great, and oddly cheap for the location. Great great great food, delivered hot and fresh, even when crowded. Good service and attentive bartenders. Out of the restaurants I've been to in the vicinity, it's easily the best just by normal restaurant standards, of service, food, and prices. Their beer selection is small, but they're well priced. But when you add in the bomb ass views, pool and fooseball tables, outdoor patio with fire pit, great concerts, and the awesome painted ceiling, it's just a super fun stop on your Girdwood trips. I read in powder magazine what a great bar/music venue this was. Boy was I disappointed. It started last night when we were trying to find a place for dinner. Because there was a show they were charging a $30 cover. We tried to see if there was a dining only entrance and they called security on us. When we came in the main entrance to ask they were very rude and told us "here in America we line up on the right." I ignored and asked if there was a separate dining area and they were very unhelpful. Two girls in line helped us find another place to eat. Based on the locale, and music genre, I was so surprised by the lack of respect. Tonight we went back before the show to have drinks and food. We were told we would be fine until 10pm to drink without buying tickets to the show. Suffice to say we were all kicked out well before the show ever started, despite an empty venue. If you are looking for food/drinks/a good time, I would recommend taking your business elsewhere. read more

While sitting in one of the lounge areas of Alyeska trying to figure out what we wanted to have for "Linner" (Lunch/DInner) since Seven Glaciers wasn't open on the day we visited, we were glad when a local chimed in a suggested the Sitzmark. It sounded pretty good and we were looking to get a drink anyway. The Sitzmark has a great view of the slope and is easily accessible to those coming off the mountain. I ordered the Primavera soup (warm and creamy) and the Chimichanga and my friends ordered the short rib sloppy joe with tater tots and the short rib poutine with sweet potato fries. A couple of us had Alaskan ales and the other a glass of chardonnay.The food portions were good size, service was not bad considering how busy it was and everything tasted great. If we're in the area again I would definitely stop in for a casual meal. read more

The menu is not just typical bar and often have delicious taco specials. Ski in and ski out, have a hot beverage or a cold beer. We've always had a great time here! We've come before/after long days of skiing, hiking, biking---for drinks, food, concerts---we've never been disappointed with the staff or venue.
