This turned out to be a pretty nice spot. Good beer specials. Not a whole lot of beer offerings, but enough to satisfy a discernible palette. The bartenders are friendly and attentive. The food is nothing to write home about, but it's better than most standard bar food. The ceiling is pretty neat. And I enjoyed the view and watching people go up and down the hill on the lifts. Stopped in for lunch after some ski lessons and boy was it busy. The menu has a ton of things that sound good after you've spent all your energy on the slopes. I had a snuggler which was delightful and warmed me right up. The blackened chicken sandwich wasn't bad but nothing amazing either. I like the cut and fry on their tots and waffle fries, I probably could've filled up on those alone. We did also order the nachos on recommendation but that the thing about them is that it's such a huge order and there is so much cheese that even between 3 adults we couldn't finish it. I feel like it would need to be had by itself, and fast. The cheese all just cools down and turns into chunks of no-longer-melted glue. I grabbed a piece that I thought was chip with cheese - it was straight up cheese. There is also a tot-chos option apparently which is the same but with tots instead, and it sounds great but I don't see myself scarfing through it quickly AND enjoying it at the same time. Honestly one of the best bars I've been to in one of the southern Alaskan region. They offered food until 10pm and it was amazing. We got the nachos and burger and both came out fresh and with a ton of food. We couldn't even finish them and they weren't expensive. The drinks were awesome. We had the new bartender John working with us and he made our mixed drinks to perfection. We had a few pitchers of beer as well and they were much cheaper than other places in the area. Overall a great experience. However, there were no Uber's in the area, so we had to walk nearly half a mile to get here. read more

I have brought several large groups here & they are always very accommodating. They are quick, kind, & thorough. Even with groups of 30+, everyone is taken care of! The waffle fries are on point. Burgers are also a great choice. The halibut tacos are okay- being in Alaska, there are a lot of other places you could go for a better fish taco. I'm rating this place on the food and service only. While the location and view was good, the rest of the experience was lacking--food was mediocre and the service was virtually none-existent. The workers kept griping at incoming customers about how they couldnt bring their snowboards in (they must not have seen the itty bitty sign that wasnt even near the entrance). I ordered a chili hotdog which was served with cold chili in a basket lined with paper! How sorry. The chili soaked the paper and I was constantly spitting out pieces of napkin. While I do need my fiber, I don't necessarily expect to consume my eating accessories to get it. My wife was also very unhappy with her meal but I will let her do her own review if she wishes to relive the experience. If you are willing to pay the price for the great view of the mountain and drink a beer and/or mixed drinks, I would say you would not be disappointed. Also, if you don't mind paying $10 for a chili dog and drink, or even better, a hamburger for nearly $20.00 when special items are added (avocado or cheese...etc.), then I would also think you would find the experience especially pleasant--just ask for the napkin as a side dish. Otherwise, pack your lunch and sit on the public deck outside the Sitzmark and have the view and a reduced fiber meal. If you feel left out, eat your paper bag :-) read more

Classic abuse of a situational advantage. At the base of the ski slopes at the biggest resort in Alaska (Alyeska) they have prime real estate. The service was terrible to non-existant, the food bland, boring, greasy and waaaaay overpriced. So they have a good beer selection- is that hard to do? We got chili cheese fries (they were not good) and the waitress didn't bring any napkins. Really? You don't think we might need napkins with chili cheese fries? Way to take advantage of a captive audience and a prime location, only to deliver horrendous service and sub-par food. read more

The bar was cute and had a chill vibe. Staff was rude and unfriendly. Took a while to get drinks and service. We ordered bloody marys (do not order they are awful and they were so spicy 2 of my friends couldn't drink theirs).The food came in a decent amount of time however it was all very disappointing. We ordered the 'grande burrito' $15 that had beef when we asked for chicken and it had NO flavor and covered in verde sauce that was overpoweringly spicy..(im assuming to make up for lack of overall real flavor). We also ordered a cheese burger $11 which was flavorless and had a very thin patty that looked and tasted like a frozen costco Kirkland brand one but worse. Awful. And also we ordered the 'tanaka' which is supposed to be good and cost $14 but it literally had two slices of turkey and was almost flavorless. When what looked like a manager came to see how our meal was we told her honestly how it was and that we were disappointed her reply "oh, thats unfortunate." When I'm at Alyeska there's two places I go each time and this is one of them. You can't not come down off the slopes and enjoy a beer and some grub here. It's the best at the base for sure. It's always crowded during the winter and always loud but that's what makes it awesome. 4 stars are based on the fabulous view, the great people watching, and the beautiful art of the ceiling. I had the Tostadas, which was served perfectly. It was hot and fresh. One of the best Tostadas I've ever had. My friend and kids had grilled cheese, hot dog and chicken strips. All average. Service was lacking, though friendly & helpful. Another review mentioned lack of napkins. Which happened to us, too. But there was a high volume of customers coming off the slopes. Napkin dispensers and/or pre placed silverware (they do this at Glacier Brewhouse) would be a great solution. Would I recommend a stop to eat? Definitely! read more

Always a great place for a burger and beer after a hard morning of skiing or biking. That being said if you are not skiing and are looking for some good lunch Id look elsewhere. It gets so busy and loud with all the skiers and boarders. Not the best environment if your looking for a chill meal. It is a great place for late night entertainment. In the evening they often have live music from some pretty great talent. Thats the setting this place thrives on in my opinion. read more

This place was an excellent spot to end a great day of skiing, and would have been perfect if not for the treacherous drive down the frozen road from our resort, luckily it wasn't too far and it's technically still on the property so you can bill your room for your meal and drinks. The parking is not level so I slid in and out of my spot a few times before landing safely. My Long Island was delicious and reasonably priced, and the chili and my sandwich were spot on, meal was big enough to share with my wife. Amazing views of skiers coming down a fast slope and the lift heading in the opposite direction, and a great ski movie being played while we were there, turns out that's every Wednesday night. This was the first time that I visited the Sitz at night, and I was disappointed to find that I was intensely disrespected due to my appearance. I understand the fact that I look rather underage for how old I actually am, but if a bar manager really thinks I'm underaged then they shouldn't have let my friends and me in initially. The Sitz was the first bar that I have visited since turning 21 that I didn't even feel welcome, only because of how old I look. I was ignored by both the serving staff and management, until the bouncer/security dude (who didn't even introduce himself or his professional title to our party) told us to show our IDs and then to leave the table we were sitting so they could put it up for the night (at 9:30pm, what the hell?). I just went twice, once for a busy concert and again for drinks on a slow Sunday night, both times excellent. Can't speak to the food. Staff was always delightful and served a thirsty crowd well. Free coat check in a nice touch. Ceiling art alone is worth the trip. Excited to come back. read more

I may be biased because I always stop in here when I'm skiing, but the Sitzmark has a lot more character and welcoming feel than a lot of the other places in Girdwood. They have standard pub food (so don't get your hopes up for gourmet), but when you're starving from being out in on the slopes all day, it's pretty dang tasty. They cover all of their bases on beer and alcohol, but don't expect a wide selection (it's mostly local). I've never had a problem with service or waited too long for food. I think if you keep your standards realistic for this place, you and the Sitzmark will get along fine. read more

We spend New Year's Eve here in late 2015/early 2016: compared to all the other places to eat in the Lodge this is the most lively, with the colorful "stained glass" that I think is really reflective paint? Great view of the slopes and people coming down from their runs, a nice big porch to sit by a the globe-enclosed fire. Decent comfort food with friendly service, big couches to hang out on in the back game room, all out comfy feel. We spend the new year's eve party here: it was not as crowded as I would have expected, a cover band played grateful dead/fish and I didn't know these composers but the crowd seemed to enjoy them quite a bit, not quite my taste but it was a great moment. The ballons came down in small amounts and we all kissed and drank and danced, the party was not extravagant but it was authentic and a nice night out. Luckily they had many buses back to the resort, the ice was so bad you could barely walk at all. An unlucky young man got busted for a fake ID and he decided to sprint on the ice, down he went, bumping all over, but he got away, and we got his wallet. The downhill torchlight ski event took place outside in the warm rain, a lot of locals were there. It seems to be the place to be if you are in Alaska for New Year! read more

I've never been here at night or in the summer, just during the day for lunch while snowboarding. I'm really impressed most by their prices. Given its a ski resort, in Alaska, it's downright cheap. The food is good and they have a good beer selection. Unfortunately the service is lackluster. Not sure if it's because they don't have enough wait staff and/or bar staff but it's always taken 5-10 minutes to get a beer after ordering. And we've had our drink orders get messed up a couple of times. The staff has always been friendly though. read more

A fun place to ski into when you need a break from skiing. The place has good food and great beer. What more could you ask for?

A friend and I cruised in to this place to check out the mountain bike festival and even though the mountain bike festival was pretty much over by about 2 o'clock that Sunday we decide to grab a drink at the Sitzmark. It's a pretty cool, rock 'n roll ski lodge place, cool designs on the ceiling like stained glass or whatever but it's a good atmosphere for drinking beer looks like they have a lot of live bands come through good sound system acoustics whatnot and have decent beer and food selections. read more

Went there for a show and the venue is really cool! Everyone talks about the ceiling and it's true, it's amazing. I would like to say that our server, Grace, was a doll and we just loved her. But...everyone else that worked there was kind of snotty. Security guards looked permanently annoyed and each one we saw asked to see our stamped wrists for the show...more than once. Don't worry, we paid our $10, Sirs. The girl at the ticket counter was clearly put out when we asked for our ticket stubs back. I understand. It was really difficult to grab them out of the trash bin that was one foot away from her. We got the point with the eye roll. Decent food, decent beer selection (not like you have a lot of late night options in Girdwood), but the service is quite subpar. We showed up around 10pm and were promptly greeted by the very loud bar drug dealer. He harassed multiple in our group insisting his deals were too good to pass up (they weren't). We made a joke or two and tried to ignore him as we were just there for a beer or two before heading to another bar. When I went to the bathroom he followed me and made jokes about how I probably had an STD and again insisted we should purchase drugs. Back at our table he again approached this time insisting we were staring at him and trying to intimidate our group. Most of us tried to ignore him, but one friend forcefully told him to leave us alone and that we would be leaving soon. This set him off and resulted in the bartender throwing our group out. He was there every single night we were in Girdwood (3 nights) and it's very disappointing that the bartender would side with a drug dealer who is harassing patrons trying to enjoy a vacation. You could definitely do better as far as food and drinks, especially if you don't want to give in to buying overpriced marijuana. read more

We ordered the turkey sandwich thinking that it would be hard to mess up, but it was swimming in mayo - yuck! The tater tots were not cooked long enough, sauces not served hot and overall terrible.
