This has been because of the amazing bar and entertainment staff - great drinks, great service, fun and friendly. The trivia and karaoke were the best I have seen in Anchorage, with a charismatic host and fun atmosphere. These days are, apparently, gone. I have visited twice in the last month, and both were some of the worst bar experiences I have ever had (and I've had some baaaad experiences in my life!). I'm not sure what happened to the staff that worked hard to make the Blue Fox a welcome, classic dive with chill and solid vibes, but whatever the mess is that's in place now is....something else. None of the serving staff seemed to know how to do...well...anything. On one visit, I ordered draft beer - pretty basic. After first returning to ask me for a reminder on what drink I ordered, they still brought me the wrong pour, and after what seemed like an excessive amount of time. I was going to order food, but someone at the table next to me leaned over (unsolicited) and told me I'd be better off skipping it. His actual words were "Don't. Save yourself". Yikes. On my other visit, I ordered an old fashioned. Whatever it was that they brought me, it wasn't anything even close, and it was undrinkable. I sent it back, and never saw a server again. On both visits, noone seemed to know how to use the computer system to get me a bill. I will also note that it was very empty there on both occasions. There is nothing I can think of or that I saw to justify or speak to the combination of slow service and level of bumbling chaos that happened. The place was dead. Not sure where the great entertainment guy went - he wasn't there on either visit, and it looked like no fun was being had by anyone. Something changed, folks. I don't know what, but hear me when I say that VIBES ARE OFF big time. In the words of the fella at the table next to me that night: Don't. Save yourself.

At the bequest of a friend, we bopped around town and this was one of his requisite stops. When I realized where we were, I shuddered. Truly, the Travel Inn makes motels in the 3rd world look luxurious. I was not optimisitic about the bar. I was surprised that the S Lounge is a moderatley pleasant dive bar/concert hall. The bar has a smallish stage and dance floor for live music events. There's a cover charge, so that keeps the rif-raf that abound in the neighborhood out. The crowd was mostly goofy but well behaved college kids. Drinks were okay, snacks were okay, the bar was clean enough. Although I REALLY wanted to complain (because did I mention how horrible and ashamed the Travel Inn should be of itself? It's a scourge to humanity!) but I really couldn't. I'd go back if the right band was playing. We happened in on a women's empowerment fundraiser thingie, so it was mostly angry lesbians singing badly. But it was a novel experience and we enjoyed ourselves well enough. I'm going to have to revisit this place to see how it stacks up over time. Check it out. Post a review. It's relatively clean, staff is pretty friendly, and the drinks are reasonably priced. They've had some pretty interesting shows there, and a good crowd usually turns out. While it is in an area of town frequented by some pretty shady characters, the people I've encountered in the bar have mostly been regular non-shady Anchorage folks.

I was very excited about going to Al's for karaoke. I had been there a couple of summers ago when I was visiting Anchorage, and I was very impressed by the enormous selection of music, and also the overall setup and ambiance of the place. So, when we went there last night, I was ready to have a good time. The karaoke area was fairly empty. My friends and I were there for over three and a half hours. I sang ONCE. I've done a lot a of karaoke at many different bars, so I know that even if there are not a lot of people, but everyone is singing, you may have a bit of a wait. I am not a complainer, and I'm happy to wait my turn like everybody else. But when you see the same people go up multiple times and sing while you are still waiting for your first chance, that ain't cool. I hate having to ask the KJ where I am in the rotation (seems like an obnoxiously passive way of begging to sing), but I had to last night. He put me up fairly quickly after that, but I never sang again. KJs shouldn't play favorites, and they shouldn't play to tips. That's not the way to run a karaoke setup. Like I said before, though, I have had a good time here in the past, and the karaoke selection is possibly the best I've ever seen. So, I'm not saying don't go. Just know that it may end up being an exercise in frustration for you. It was for me.

Huge selection even though it is all by CD. Only complaint, as a karaoke DJ myself, is most of the DJs tended to put themselves into the cycle more than they should. My philosophy is if u r getting paid to turn the "records" for the customers that u should do so. I will only sing if there is a lag in people putting in requests. Anyway, besides that, good karaoke scene, dance club upstairs, live band pool shootin' downstairs, it has a lot to offer. I got to know the bartenders, bouncers, and DJs fairly well and all of them were cool. Al's has a very well organized Texas Hold'em Poker system that pays $1 per head each night for whoever takes first. You can qualify for other tournaments if you make it to the final table. Typically 30ish regulars there each night. Not bad They have a nice smoking area outside that keeps u warm in the winter. They provide free cheeseburgers most nights, every night they have some excellent free chili. So it is a place to have some good fun and not pinch your wallet too bad. Al Junior owns the place and you can often find him milling around with the customers shootin the sh$#. I'll certainly drop in the next time I roll into Anchorage. Eye candy wise, I suppose I 3 out of 5. Depends on the night, seen some scary ones and some beautiful ones.

It was actually pretty great, for a bar buffet. The sole waitress/bartender was super sweet. She seemed to appreciate that we paid with cash. We're a colored neurodivergent family. We stick out like a sore thumb. I kinda expect to be treated differently, (especially in the sticks) but we weren't, here :) Tug's buffet breakfast was better than any hotel buffet breaky, that's for sure! They had french toast sticks, blueberry pancakes, different protein options, biscuits and gravy etc. No soda on tap, only cans. No strips or chicken nuggets here. I kinda figured and we planned to stop elsewhere for my son's eats (ARFID eater). Apparently, there are people who make reservations JUST for the overboard bloody's, so arriving at 11am (they opened at 10am), still had us a waiting a good 30-40min for ours. It was worth it! Tug Bar changes the toppings each week. This week was insane! Candy + an entire chicken, pork chop, lobster tail, sandwich, pretzel etc. see the photo and vid. To make matters worse, we didn't even have menus at our table. There was a self-serve water station, but the cups available were dirty, which wasn't a great first impression. Once our order was finally taken, it took another 30 minutes for our food to arrive. When it did, the food was bland, lacked seasoning, and was extremely overpriced for the quality. Honestly, you can get better Hawaiian food at L&L for much less money. The final straw was overhearing the table next to us complaining to the manager about the service. Instead of handling the situation professionally, the manager started bad-mouthing the owner and the location, talking about how he'd been telling them to change things. Having that conversation in front of customers was incredibly unprofessional and not a good look for the business.
