I actually felt comfortable in this bar. There was a popcorn maker, a plus for me and a music box that I could play what I wanted. A few TVs for sports updates that I could catch up on. A bartender that was very courteous and friendly to talk with. There was a bar dog - very friendly and lovable I love dive bars so I will be back and recommend for anyone.

$4.25 for a pint of Alaska Amber, pool tables, and Meatloaf belting out "Paradise by the Dashboard Light" on the jukebox. Need I say more? This is your basic tavern. Okay, okay ... it's a dive bar, but it's loveable. It's across from the Sheraton Hotel so you get a good mix of visitors and regulars. Don't go to the lounge in the Sheraton. It's a total rip and besides, the waitress I had at the Sheraton my first night there was here at the Polar Bar, sucking them down, three nights later. On the nights I was there the woman bartender got punched in the face, a man was thrown out for trying to sell his Doritos, and there was a fight on the curb in front. I personally was verbally assaulted by a visiting Texan who decided that since I don't like Bush I must love Obama, (I don't). He just couldn't let it go. Be back? I've been back many times during my stay in Anchorage. If I get back up to ANC again, I'll most certainly drop in. The bartenders are "entertaining," to say the least.

This is a bar to drink, play pool, shoot darts and drink! The nighttime bar tenders are awsome! The juke box is always rocking! In a mellow part of town...POLAR BAR ROCKS!!! Some of the best Boody Maries I have had.

    Go on in!

Plays SNL on Saturdays. Cheap drinks/shots perfect for pregaming Mad Myrna's. Bartenders are super friendly and hilarious.

Smells musty and bad when you walk in. It was very warm inside with no circulation. Crowd at the bar were less than hospitable.

I've only ever come here for the Sweet Cheeks cabaret and would never come here otherwise. I miss…read morewhen they used to perform at 49th State Brewing as it was better in every aspect. Last time I visited I ordered the "spicy" chicken tenders which were just cooked frozen tenders soaked in buffalo sauce which made the soggy. The fries were okay. The cocktails were some of the worst I've ever had. I ordered a double blueberry spritz which just tasted like watered down blueberry lemonade. Not worth the $18 at all. Better to stick to beer here. The server was fine but when I paid the default tip was 30% which is outrageous and the highest default tip I've seen anywhere. I'm all for tipping generously but the service and ambiance are not at all worth that high of a percentage.

There was only 1 person tending bar and waiting on tables when we sat down, but a second person arrived, and things picked up. Again, the service was decent once the order was placed. They forgot my son's fries until the end of the order, but they comped us. But, no tater tots this time, damn it. But, the fries were crispy and tasty. We opened with soft pretzel rods, which were served hot with a cheese sauce. Good stuff. I decided to deviate from my "always order fish" rule for Alaska, so I opted for the chimichuri steak bowl. The beef was nicely seasoned, but over cooked. The mango chunks are a nice touch, and I did eat the whole thing, but it was less amazing than the comparable salmon bowl. There was a trivia contest going on, which added to the fun. And, the Broken Blender is all about fun.
