The place looked old, run down, and dirty. Went in there around 3 in the afternoon and I couldn't get food or drinks until 4. Ok not a problem right? Yea no. The man running the bar told me to get out of the bar, after it was supposed to open. I walked in there at 4 05 and was told to leave and that they were still trying to open. What a fun evening. We decided to do some team building, and bowling seemed like just the ticket. Center Bowl let us reserve a couple lanes for 2 hours. There are 30 lanes, so lots of room for lots of people. Programming our names into the computer was pretty easy. To start we put three of us on each lane. I didn't realize the lanes were linked. It was crazy how fast the game play was and how many frames we fit it. It was a fun time and the bar kept us equipped with drinks. My only regret is not stretching first... read more

Took the family last night for neon bowling. We got our lane on time which was reserved and paid in advance. It was 8:30 pm on a Saturday night and it was packed. They were out of shoe sizes and most size bowling balls. Had to go to other lanes and ask people if they were using all of the ones on their rack just to find 8 lb balls for the kids. That's the lightest they have which is crazy heavy fo anyone under 15. The screens and scoring system was new and easy to use. Definitely nicer than Jewel Lake overall. read more

Nice midweek kids birthday games. Six littles hhad a great time bowling with bumpers up and a ball rack. Staff were helpful. The only bummer was we were not ready with socks! No outdoor shoes allowed off the carpet. Since we were the first group there at 11a.m. on a Thursday, we were told to only wear socks or bowling shoes on the entire linoleum floor area. I went there for a birthday party with a few friends, their bowling is good, it's simple and easy to work with. The staff was friendly and helpful. We walked in and went to the bar to get a beer before hanging out with a big group of coworkers. We waited 15 minutes for the bartender even to look at us. When he finally rudely asked what we wanted I said 2 modelos please... he said what? I said 2 modelos. He said well first I need to see ID, and second what lane are you on? Since moving to Anchorage I've become a big fan of bowling. Center Bowl is my main jam to fill this desire! There are always coupons in Mint magazine and the newspaper for buy one get one game. Stack them up! Anytime you rent shoes they automatically give you a pair of white socks! No extra charge, even if you have your own socks. Parking lot can be a little tight, that is my main complaint. They have a full bar in the back, typical prices for Alaska. I think it's pretty cool the bowling alley will reserve off lanes that are "alcohol free" I like this idea for families coming to bowl with kids. Service for the most part is friendly. The other day we went bowling at 4pm and had pre-paid for two games, we were told we had to be done by 6pm for league bowling. I get this, but I feel like the guy could have been a tad more cordial about the situation. read more

My place of choice to bowl. It's not the best, but it totally says old school bowling alley trying to be hip. A lot of the lanes are a tad rag tag. Jiggle push pull if you will. I don't know if it's my luck but I usually end up with a janky lane. Doesn't dim the experience much though, because you're there to enjoy yourself. The staff is great too. Always willing to fix your lane in a jiffy. Lol. Always smiling and welcoming. Another thing that's pretty cool is they give you free socks. I have a whole drawer of socks just from there. Haha! There's no shortage of balls. You never have to search high and low. They also do a kids summer program, which is pretty cool. For like 35$ or something like that, kids bowl free all summer. Just pay for shoes. It's awesome and totally worth it if you're a stay at home mom. Kids always want something to do and it gets you out of the house. It's great. Just like many things in Alaska it's old. It has its charm and definitely has character. If you're in the area, give it a try. read more

This bowling alley has a good vibe, but definitely had some issues. First, I thought it was odd that you pay for the lanes by the hour, not pay for the individual game (for me in this instance it worked out because I bowled FAR more games than I would have). That said, it was $48 for 2hrs on a lane with a pair of rental shoes. That's issue/oddity number one. The second issue is the overall condition of the lanes. The lanes themselves were nice, but they have quite a few issues with the pin feeders. Of my two hours I was probably down 30min for them to repair issues. Had I not gotten my moneys worth by bowling as many games as I did (not going to disclose that because it's quite a large number lol), I would have tried to get some sort of refund or something for part of the time I paid. Third and final issue is the ball selection. It was incredibly hard to find a ball with big finger holes. I don't have the biggest hands in the world, but they're not the smallest either. My fingers didn't comfortably fit in any of the balls, so I had to throw a 14lb the whole night because it was the best fit. All that said, it was perfect for what I was looking to do, which was get out of my hotel and do something so I wasn't bored. Glad I did it! read more

I've been to center bowl twice this winter. Once with my special lady and her family and it was fine. The customer service was a little off, guy was kinda a jerk. Then I took my son for his birthday, now I didn't pay for the party package because we didn't have enough guest to warrant that. (minimum is 12) but we did get the groupon and the service was great. The counter guys (different then the first time) we super helpful and nice. He even suggested I get another groupon and not worry about the one per guest limit. Really nice guys and went the extra mile. Food was good for a bowling alley, a little over priced. But the cook Mike did a fine job. read more

I've been here twice since recently relocating to Anchorage, and so far both my experiences have been positive. Located on the intersection of Spenard and Minnesota, makes for pretty easy access from whichever part of town you're coming from. There is a large number of bowling lanes, so the place can be noisy when they're all full; but hey, it's a bowling alley, we don't come here for piece 'n quite ;) We come to slay pins! The staff so far has been pleasant to work with, and they've been accessible and informative. Only complaint so far has been the wait time at the front desk, but not a huge deal. The lanes are kept clean and I haven't experienced an issue with the score keeping system thus far. I've been able to find a ball that matches my wants fairly easily each time I've gone in (heavier and large finger holes). They do give out free fresh socks with each pair of shoes, which is a def plus. And haven't experienced any issues so far with them not having a pair in the sizes our party needed. I have yet to try the food, but it looks like fairly standard diner/greasy bowling alley food (not necessarily a bad thing). One member of our party ordered a hamburger last time we were there, smelled good, almost made me want to order one but I had recently eaten. I'll update later if I wind up ordering at some point. They also have a separate back area that has a bar area with a pool table, darts, and seating. Which is nice if you and your party want to mix it up a little bit, but not have to go very far. They also have a small arcade area for the kiddos up behind the bowling lanes. Based other reviewers posts, be on the look out for discounts and specials around town, as it seems like they're readily available. Groupon has been providing a good deal recently, so that's worth checking out while it's available. I'll be coming back as a repeat customer. read more

We paid for 1 hour. Had 30 mins of bowling, then our lane had maintenance. No problem, then I asked for some time back and he said "it's only been a couple minutes". Then we ended up having to move lanes then had issues on that lane with the sensors and score. They worked on it and by that time the kids we were with were over it and wanted to leave so we asked for a voucher or a refund and he told my friends wife no we can't do anything. Tried Center Bowl for the first time since I've driven by it quite a bit. It did have that retro, 80's charm with updated consoles at the tables by the lane. The consoles are intuitive and make setting things up for the game simple. The bowing staff was helpful and we had a great time bowling. However, stay away from the cafe. I ordered food from the cashier who didn't greet me and I got the vibe that she wanted to be any where else but there. Placed the order for our food with special instructions on the burger that she writes down on a sticky note. Get our food but I found that the instructions have been ignored on the burger and take it back. I explain what happened and the cashier tells the cook who also put out the vibe that he didn't want to be there. I told them I wanted a chicken sandwich instead so they don't just reuse the same burger. Come back, and they did the same thing to the chicken sandwich that they did to the burger. I figured most people with a two digit IQ would be able to understand not to prepare a chicken sandwich the same way that a burger returned was prepared but alas, I was mistaken. To me, it's obvious that the kids working at the cafe are part of the family business that they don't want anything to do with so they take it out on by not even half assing an order. Again, good times bowling but stay away from the cafe. You'd be better off bringing in a packed lunch. read more

Employees seemed very annoyed and I did NOT agree with the rule of only allowing people 12 and under have bumpers... some of us still order off the kids menu and most of those are 12 and under but the restaurant employees still let it go so I think we should be allowed to use bumpers no matter your age. Sooo, what do Alaskans do for fun when they're not snowmobiling, skiing, biking, and hiking? They go to Center Bowl to make fools of themselves. Oh yes, this is the premiere karaoke/black light part/bowling center in town! I suppose there are times that there are serious bowlers there, but if you go on a Wednesday, that's when the party starts. They do the black lights, have plenty of beer specials (the drunker you are, the more likely you'll sing karaoke), and then they get people started. There was a guy who was so devoted to this, he'd dress up as Kid Rock every week and sing only Kid Rock songs. It was awesome. read more

I drove to Carrs to pick up some socks because I wanted to bowl here on a Saturday night. Imagine my surprise when Center Bowl gave me my very own clean, fresh white socks! I've never been to a place that offers this, so I was pretty happy. They had top 40 music with black lights and some lasers, so it was pretty cool. They have only like, 2 beers on tap, so I wish they had more selection. But, it was only $37 for an hour for 4 people, so it was a pretty good deal! read more

Had a horrible experience tonight. I arrived at 7:30pm with a Groupon in hand. There was one dry lane open and a wait for wet lanes, so we took the one that was available (#7). Shoes in my size were gone, so I sized down which still ended up being a size too big. Maybe all of the shoes are men's sizes? I specified women's. Our first bowler rolled their first two balls, but the second one didn't register on the scoreboard. We had to manually reset the pins and type in the score. Somehow it screwed up the scoring for our next bowler and the lane froze, so we had to get a staff member to reset the lane (he said it had been paused). This happened again in our first hour and several times the balls were not returned, so we took new ones from the rack. We purchased another hour after the first ran out and things went majorly downhill from there. None of our balls were being returned and we had to ask for the staff to reset our lane 5 times; it would just shut down for no apparent reason. Finally we were at our wits end. We took off our shoes and asked for a refund on our second hour since it was impossible to keep the game going. I am giving it two stars because we received a refund without putting up a fight, but I would have liked to receive an apology too, which there was none. I found no enjoyment in my night of bowling what-so-ever, just frustration. Customer service could have been WAY better. Also, the the snack bar told me they were out of fountain soda, even though every single person around us had one (?). And the bathrooms looked clean, but smelled worse than most of the outhouses in Alaska. I won't be going back to this place. In summary: +1 Refund was given without questions +1 They give out socks to wear with the shoes -1 Lane broke down 5+ times within 1.25 hours -1 Bathrooms are nasty -1 Poor customer service I will never be back, it wasn't even worth the 50% discount that we received. read more

Extremely upset that I'm here at 2 am and there are children and drunk moms in the alcohol section after having to wait to bowl in this section because it was full. So we can't drink and bowl but there are families with kids under 5 bowling in the alcohol section at 2 am and nothing was done about it .... like wow. And it wasn't the kids it was the drunk ass parents that made it hard to enjoy our time. So you need 10 bowling balls for a family of 5 ... and your going to hoot and holler every time your kid rolls a ball even in the gutter at 2 am... This was the worst service I have ever received in a bowling alley. The workers were annoyed by us coming to the front desk to ask a question. Lanes would shut off in the middle of a game then we would have to wait 20 minutes to get the lanes turned back on.
