In & Out Shawarma is your typical family owned neighborhood Metro-Detroit Middle Eastern restaurant. I remember visiting the first time a couple of years ago after reading the reviews stating the restaurant was inside the liquor store and being confused when I couldn't find it. Instead, they had just moved right next door in a newly renovated building. To be honest, I find that the restaurant interior here is bland and soulless but luckily the food here doesn't match the surroundings. During that initial visit, I did not like the food. I ordered the Meat and Chicken Shawarma Sandwiches and found that the meat in both were exceptionally dry and tough. If I had been on Yelp back then, it would likely have ended up as a 2 or 3 star. I went again recently for lunch to give it another chance, getting the same items again. The food arrived within 5 minutes or so after ordering. Meat Shawarma Sandwich ($6.75) - This was totally different from my previous visit. The meat was tender and flavorful, not mushy and not dry. There was a great balance of ingredients, with the meat, veggies, and tahini mixing together to create the perfect bite. The veggies were super fresh, with tomato, parsley, and crunchy and aromatic onions. The tahini added a good nuttiness. Overall the sandwich had a good amount of moisture but not enough to cause anything to go soggy. Chicken Shawarma Sandwich ($6.75) - Again this had great construction and balance of ingredients. The pickles were nice and crunchy with some sour acidity. The chicken was not the juiciest, but definitely not dry, and had a bit of a nice charred flavor. The garlic was solid and added a nice complementary pungency. The ingredients were distributed pretty evenly, resulting in a piece of each component in each bite. Side notes: Both sandwiches weighed between 7 and 8 ounces, which I think might be a bit on the smaller side. I am also not certain if the shawarma is shaved off the spit here. This is a run, don't walk review. Easily the best shawarma I've ever had and made by super nice people. Knowing about the history of Dearborn I was ready to put the shawarma to the test and am glad I did. The restaurant is located in a strip mall but the inside is newly decorated with ample space inside to dine in. We ordered the shawarma sandwich (mixed), side of hummus, falafel sandwich, and salad. I took the first bite of the sandwich and had to pass it around to everyone at the table because it would be an injustice for them not to try it. One of the dishes came with a side of garlic sauce that is so potent it will make your mouth burn. Honestly, that is the perfect level of garlic for me. In regards to freshness, everything is made in front of you. You can tell they know how to prepare their meat as everything is super juicy and dripping with flavor. In fact, the only negative to this place is that they need bigger napkins. You will go through a bunch just wiping your face and hands. Great place! The gentleman behind the counter was very friendly. We just shot the breeze while I waited for our take away. Super cool guy. The restaurant is very clean and welcoming. There's limited seating. Not really a big deal to me though. I'm not sure how long they've been there. But my wife and I both enjoyed it. I normally pack a lunch, but I forgot my lunch today, so I decided to try this place out. I'm definitely glad I did. My office is about a 5 minute drive from this place; by the time I got there, my food was already done. In some places, I'd be concerned that the food is pre-made, but that's not the case here: the chicken shawarma was obviously just made to fill my order. Fantastic. And, that chicken shawarma does stand up to some pretty impressive competition: this is Dearborn, after all, which has some of the best Mediterranean food in the world. This wrap had a good ratio of pita to high quality chicken and pickle. I would definitely order it again. But, it actually gets better than that. The chicken shawarma with a side and a drink costs only $8.99. I chose baba ganoush, which has a fantastic smoky quality that I expect from a good baba ganoush. And, the portion is very generous (about a cup). The baba ganoush was so good that I ate the whole thing, even though I was full by the time I finished the sandwich with it. If you do decide to order from here - which I highly recommend - please note that this place is located inside The Vinery liquor store. This turns out to be a very nice bonus, because they have a phenomenal selection, but it does make it hard to figure out which door to go into to find the restaurant. This has me concerned that people will miss out on this fantastic addition to Dearborn's culinary landscape. Please also note that there is only take-out service available. This express in and out shawarma is at the back of the Vinery store. I was warmly greeted by the each of the 2 staff members as I came in and was handed a takeout menu for easy reading, the board was high above my normal eye level. I ordered the veggie combo for 1, small cup of crushed lentil, fatoosh salad sans pita chips and added feta, $0.75 add-on. They have walking through Istanbul on the TV via YouTube for your waiting amusement. All of the employees are extremely friendly at least and pleasant. I was advised to give the dressing a good shake before dousing it over my salad. The romaine lettuce for the fatoosh needs to be fresh, some red and brown spots on several leaves, the feta dusting is not worth the $.75 at all. The crushed lentil is not so good, on the bland side and there is rice for filler too, which I don't like in my lentil. The hummus is super blah and needed more lemon, it's one is the worst I have ever had to date. It wasn't good enough to take in more than 2 small teaspoons of the stuff. The tabouli is okay, but is looking old since the green onions and parsley are starting to brown. The baba is not bad, smokey. The grape leaves are mostly leaves, maybe a few grains of rice at most. Someone said this was in a liquor store. It is *next* to a liquor store in a strip mall, not in it. Lol. The place is extremely clean. It's bright looking and maybe even looks like it was newly- renovated. The food is absolutely amazing. I got the chicken Shawarma platter. I did order it with fries, but it came with rice instead, which in a way was a good thing because the rice was extremely moist as was the chicken. They give you a size of garlic obviously and it was scrumptious. the chicken was moist too. Definitely would recommend this place. They're also very nice. First time trying this place. I chose it based on location, price, and convenience. It's inside of a liquor store/grocery store. I ordered the crushed lentil soup (very good), fattoush salad (with a delicious salad dressing), chicken shawarma sandwich, falafel sandwich. The price is competitive to Ollie's, which was an important part in swaying others to try the place. I also like that it's a to-go establishment, so I know if I'm short on time, I can go there. Doesn't look like much but this place takes me by surprise. I'm not familiar with Dearborn area at all and randomly stumble across this place. I'm not going to lie, when I first saw the place from outside I thought the area feels a bit dodgy. However, the place inside is actually very clean and feels newly renovated. The decor is simple but pretty nice. Still, I think they're perfect for grab and go. I ordered the chicken shawarma sandwich, which is really affordable. For the price, the portion is really good too! The meat was very well seasoned and the spices were aromatic. The flatbread was soft and fluffy. The sandwich was pretty saucy, so make sure to grab A LOT of napkins to go, but it's definitely an awesome quick lunch spot. Would definitely recommend it if you're in the area. I took home 3 shawarma: Kafka, Chicken, and "Meat". All were excellent with the right amount of sauce.
