This was my first time having their Thanksgiving Turkey Dinner special and it was so delicious! Tasty turkey slices, mashed potatoes, stuffing, cranberry sauce, gravy and roasted root veggies that were amazing! Loved the presentation too. Only minor wish was it needed more gravy. We also shared a Caesar salad and enjoyed slices of pumpkin pies and pecan pies for dessert. This was Thanksgiving Sunday and you needed to book a table in advance. I also hadn't been at this Danforth Ave. location in many years and happy to see it still had a warm vibe. And even though the restaurant was full it wasn't loud so we could enjoy our family dinner. Stopped by for dinner and got: - Meat Lasagna: Hefty and super cheesy. Would have liked a bit more bite to the sauce. - Mussels: Good amount for the price. My family and I love this place. It's comfortable and the food is consistently fresh and well seasoned. We did have an issue with the service yesterday, which was rather sad as it was my son's birthday. It took almost 20 min for our shared entre, and then a really long time for our main course. I signaled the staff and there was no apology, just we're really busy with take out orders. I think the trick is don't go on a Monday . They have junior wait staff doing table service. I celebrated my birthday at this location in Il Fornello yesterday. the waitress was very rude as she plopped the bag that she packed my food in on the table. she plopped the plate while serving me the dish. If I didn't say anything to her in return it was because it was birthday and didn't want to spoil my day and I also I didn't want to stoop to her level. She was all smile but with a rude and behind the time manner. She also tricked me into paying high tip as there was no custom option to avoid paying her the tip. She didn't deserve tip at all. This is a pleasant restaurant to dine with family, friends, co-workers, even just for two. The food is good and solid. Prices are reasonable and the servers are attentive. I can see this place being a go to spot for the neighborhood. All people in my party enjoyed their meals. One literally polished the plate after consuming the CHICKEN PARMIGANA. She said she "couldn't stop eating it and I'm not sharing" which explains her silence during our dining experience. My other friend had the creamy ORECCHIETTE FUNGI and luckily I was able to taste a forkful and with a few shakes of salt, uplifted the truffle taste. I ordered the LINGUINI DI MARE and enjoyed the seafood but did find the tomato sauce a little thick. I personally prefer marinara sauce. My favorite was tasting the LINGUINI POLLO PESTO. The sauce was so flavorful that if the chicken were absent, I wouldn't complain. Be sure to ask for a white sangria, which is not on the menu but our server Suzanne obliged in making us one each. High props to the all servers who were on hand as they seem to work as a team. Great dining experience. We will be going back to try their popular pizza's. Aside from the dish, the service was amazing and the waitress was very thoughtful as I came with a baby and a stroller. The staff were very accommodating and made us feel very comfortable. Love this place for vegan food! If you're vegan, or trying to eat vegan for any reason, this is a great place to enjoy some food that you feel like you might miss out on these days. They have an entire menu with vegan options. Everything from lasagna, to pizza options, and more! I'm sure once you see how many things you have to choose from you'll be coming back to try even more. One thing I liked is that they broke down the substitutes in the back, so when they said it was a "cheese" it would has an index on the back of the menu so you know what that "cheese" is made from. The price is quite good for what you get in terms of portion and quality. We love the atmosphere there. The decor and style of restaurant is perfect for a casual night but it's also perfect something like a birthday or nice get together. The staff has always been very helpful and attentive. I think another great perk is being able to go with someone, or a group of people, who aren't vegan, and everyone has a lot of option. That's often the tricky part with finding great spots to go. But even if everyone ate off the vegan menu, I'm sure they'd be satisfied. I've been with groups that are all vegan, and groups with a mix. read more

This is my first visit to the Danforth location of Il Fornello. It is one of our favourite restaurants. This location is a large restaurant with a patio. It is very clean, and very well staffed. Today, I am having the lamb shank, and my wife and son are having the gluten free pizza. I also had the orange polenta cake which is a gluten free vegan almond based cake with coconut whipped cream. They offer several fantastic desserts. ThI polenta cake was good and bad several nice elements to it. A must try if you are doing gluten free or a vegan diet. Overall the meal was fantastic. I noticed Il Fornello takes part in Summerlicious and their entire Summerlicious menu is vegan, so I decided to finally try them out. The dinner pricing here for a 3 course meal as part of Summerlicious is $33 per person. The inside of this restaurant is really nice, the lighting is dimmed and romantic, and it's very classy looking overall. I ordered: Appetizer: - Avocado Cashew Caesar Salad (tomaine lettuce, avocados, lemon juice dressing, vegan Parmesan cheese) This was absolutely delicious, this tasted even better than normal Caesar salads I've had in the past - and trust me I love my Caesar salads! Entree: - Plant-Powered Classic Lasagna (cashew almond mozerella, tofu ricotta and kale marinara sauce) This was also very yummy, if the menu didn't specify this was vegan lasagna, I would've thought it was normal dairy based lasagna. Desert: Coconut Panna Cotta This was also very yummy. My boyfriend ordered: Appetizer: - Avocado Cashew Caesar Salad He also enjoyed this yummy salad. Entree: Sweet Pea & Spinach Risotto (Corn, green onions, pea sprouts, vegan Parmesan) He really liked this dish, it was flavourful and very filling Desert: Lemon Cake This was good for the first couple bites but it was too sweet for us to finish. I've been coming here for years but stopped for awhile because their wonderful Caesar salad had become so bland. Not sure what happened but I was pretty bummed. We went back a couple of nights ago and it was better but we loaded it up with fresh lemon and lots of salt and pepper. That makes anything good. I think the pizza here is just ok. I don't crave it but if I'm there I'll order it. It's no pizza libretto, that's for sure. (Sorry) Service is awesome as well as the Chianti. I am putting in a complaint. Daughter and I came yesterday, June 14th. reservations was under Graham at 6:30 pm. Service was horrendous. Waitress very unpleasant and not once checked on us during our meal. Also she got the order wrong. My daughter ordered a pizza with gluten free crust. She got a regular pizza not gluten free. When we complained the owner/manager came over to apologize and advised they would re-do her order and it should not be long. The waitress decides to finally come over and said to us. we will take care of it. NO Apology. WOW, what kind of disgusting service this is. This dining spot features a huge variety of different dishes ranging from pastas to oven baked pizzas. They now offer a plant-based vegan menu that even catches meat-lovers like me off guard! At a specific time, their pizzas are actually only $12. That's an amazing deal considering the quality of the pizzas they make. I got to try the truffle and porcini risotto and that was probably the star of the night. The truffle flavour was distinct and indulging. I couldn't get enough of the dish! I've been wanting to check our Il Fornello for years now and finally in my thirties I got to check out the Danforth location twice. The first time,y partner and I had received a free entrée for this location so we headed down one evening and ordered: Warm Olives - very tasty, packs a punch and a generous portion! Vegan Avocado Cesar Salad: Tasty! No complaints. Vegan Pizza Melanzane: tasty, fresh and not soggy! We decided to come back for Summerlicious because we enjoyed our first time there. However it wasn't as great as the first visit! The Summerlicious Menu was all vegan which was nice as my partner and I are vegan! My mom and I enjoyed the misses in tomatoe broth which was absolutely delicious! It was a good portion and the sauce was delicious with a nice kick to it, but not too spicy! We also ordered the warm olives because we knew from before that they were a hit. From the Summerlicious menu: I had the Caprese Salad, which I enjoyed the vegan mozzarella, it didn't taste vegan or fake. However the vinaigrette was on the sweet side. I added some fresh cracked pepper to tone down the sweetness however some cracked sea salt would've been a nice little touch. I then had the Vegan Lasagna. The presentation wasn't the nicest, and it tasted like lasagna but nothing special. It was lacking flavour, and just taste like pasta drained with sauce. I ended it off with the Coconut Panna Cotta as I am a huge Panna Cotta lover. However the minute it was played in front of me it was a let down. The texture was way off, too much gelatin and it made it taste more like jello, with no creamy silky texture to it. There was also no hint of coconut, so I felt like I was eating flavourless jelly. Some vanilla bean would've been a nice addition to enhance the flavour. It did come with a strawberry purée which tasted better than the actually dessert. Not a nice way to end the meal. My wine, Argentinian Malbec helped wash my mea down and our waitress was beyond amazing. Getting us anything we needed and giving us a good supply of bread for the sauces that came with our dishes. The food was mediocre but their pizzas and appetizers were very tasty. I would go back again if I wanted some Italian at a decent price. read more

Went here on Sunday for a birthday dinner for a friend and it was absolutely amazing!!! Suzanne was our server and she was attentive, funny, and engaging! She made us a white sangria that was absolutely delicious!! Everyone was raving about the food we ordered. I personally had the linguini Pollo pesto...I was in heaven!!!! It was so flavourful, and the sauce was rich, thick, creamy, and there was some lovely pine nuts in there as well. The chicken was nice and moist as well. 2 people had the Orecchiette Fungi and of course my greedy self had to taste it...and it was awesome!!! 2 people had the Linguini de Mare, and I must say that even though I don't love mussels, the flavour of the food was delectable. Our pickiest friend had the Chicken Parmigiana and she refused to share...that means it was good!! For dessert it was the Tiramasu and creme brulee...chefs kiss!!!!.....and speaking of chefs kiss..... I definitely highly suggest eating here. The ambiance is nice, and the staff is amazing, and the prices are very good for the high quality of food you get. First time ordering from this restaurant and was excited to try the vegan menu which was disappointing. I ordered the vegan Orechiette which comes with a cashew truffle cream sauce. Only thing is it's completely tasteless. No truffle taste, no seasoning, no nothing. Not even salt. The sauce was clumpy and had pretty much solidified by the time my order arrived. The pasta taste like cardboard. This was barely eatable. I tried the vegan sausage pizza. Nothing to write home about. Wasn't bad but wasn't good. Again lacking spice. Beyond beef burger was okay. It would have been the only redeeming element of my $90 order if it weren't for the soggy sweet potato fries that came with it. Although somehow those came seasoned with salt whereas salt was forgotten in everything else. The chocolate brownie was decent although the coconut cream split by the time it arrived and just became and oily mess. There are far better true vegan restaurants out there. I recommend Away Kitchen on Queen West if you're looking for good vegan pizzas and tasty vegan Italian food. read more

The restaurant was busy and there were a lot of staff to handle the crowd. The outdoor area is nice and would have been our first choice but it was too chilly. The restaurant decor is quite plain. The ambiance is fair. The service was good. The kids pizza came out quickly as did caesar and caprese salads. Both salads were ok. Our pizzas took a little longer. The toppings were good and plentiful and the dough was ok. However the pizza itself was very bland. It seemed like it had no seasoning at all. Came here on two occasions so this will be a two part review. Friday Dec. 20: Arrived with my 5 coworkers and boss. We were promptly sat at the big table by the front doors. They gave us time to settle before asking if we were ready for beverages, it was a busy night but the staff were amazing and patient with us. It was super super good, the creamiest cannioli ever and two was just enough to fill your empty stomach. While waiting for that to come out, we all ordered boccocini fritti, arancini and bruschetta to share. Those were so delicious!!! We got also a bread basket to share, I think that was complimentary with big groups? I don't know tbh. Anyways, it was a good night. The damage was around $400 which between 6 people wasn't too bad. Definitely would come back. Fast forward to Christmas Eve, I came back with my girlfriend for lunch. We came in early for our reservation, the waitress was more than happy to seat us and our waters were brought immediately upon request. We ordered the arancini for our app. Girlfriend got the fettuccine alfredo and I ordered the pizza diavola (kids from work wouldn't stop raving about them so I had to try it). Oh my gosh, mind-blowingly good, the alfredo was al dente and ridiculously creamy (that's how to make a delicious alfredo people!!). The pizza was so yummy too, perfect level of spice and cheese was extra stretchy. You can tell this was legit pizza because of the wood oven in the back. We also ordered dessert: Tartufo and Cremé Bruleé. Tartufo was good, the cremé bruleé was half burnt on top so it was bitterr which was unfortunate, we still ended finishing everything and the damage was about $74 for 2. My friend and I went to Il Fornello on the Danforth for her birthday today, and the experience was great! She got a flat tire on the way over so we had to push our reservation back by half and hour and all the staff were so kind and understanding. My friend has a nut allergy, and they were very accommodating of it! The vegan options at this restaurant are also amazing! The reason I gave them four stars instead of five is just because I wish my pasta was spiced a bit more, but I'm mostly to blame since I'm the one who ordered it (it still tasted super good, though). My friend got the cannelloni and she said it was very cheese heavy, so that could be a good thing or a bad thing depending on personal preference. I would definitely come here again!! read more

The service is always impeccable and the food is delicious and consistent. They bring a basket a bread before the meal and you can request vegan butter to go with it (at no charge). Met some friends while in town for quick visit. I've been to this restaurant in the past, but haven't dined here in ages. It was a cold, Monday night and the place was fairly quiet, so we scored a table close to the front window. Our waitress was fantastic. She recommended some craft beers on tap and when one of us ordered a darker ale, she questioned what beer they normally drink. When he told he, she said he might not like it but off she went to get him a small sample of the beer. She came back with two samples, the one he ordered (she was right..He didn't like it) and another that she thought he would like (which he did). She was stellar....clone her ! Three of us ordered pizzas and one of us ordered a pasta dish with sausages. All three pizzas were excellent. There were a few burnt sections on the crust, but it didn't deter from the flavour of the pizza. All 3 were flavorful and not one of us left a morsel on our plates (We were all like the Grinch who took that small crumb off Cindy Loo Who's plate in the cartoon "How the Grinch Stole Christmas"). The pasta dish was on the spicy side and the person who ordered it usually foregoes spice, but with the assistance of cold craft beers, he worked through it. We had bruschetta to start, then I ordered the agnolloti, my spouse had the bolognese, and we finished with tiramisu and chocolate brownies. The bruschetta was fine. The bolognese was fine (large portion) The agnolotti was great! (1/2 the portion of the bolognese) The stuffing in the pasta was a mix of tofu and cashew ricotta. Light, fluffy, creamy, savoury. The buttery and flavorful sauce was incredible, I soaked the bread from the bruschetta starter to make sure I didn't leave any of that sauce behind. The brownies were very date forward, I enjoyed them, but my spouse who loves chocolate said it was just fine. The tiramisu was yummy! Creamy, sweet, with a hint of espresso. I could have eaten three more of those. Overall: Most of the food was fine, and service was fine. First off, our waitress was very friendly and provided exceptional service. I give these guys a 3.8/5 score overall. I'd like to try one of their main dishes before I round that score up. MEATBALL APPETIZER Four house-made, wood-oven baked beef & ricotta meatballs, pomodoro sauce, whipped ricotta, basil oil 14.55 This appetizer was delicious. The drizzle of basil oil over the ricotta topped meatballs was a nice touch. The meatballs were moist and small to medium sized. It came with 3 small slices of garlic toast. INSALATA ROMA Mixed greens, chèvre, toasted walnuts, sweety drop peppers, balsamic vinaigrette 9.75 / 14.95 I got the half size. This salad was okay, but was nothing special. The only thing that stood out for me was that small dollap of ricotta. The sweety drop peppers added a nice sweet, but mild heat. They remind me of cherry tomatoes. I wish they had put more in the salad. Yes, I got the half size, but still. We split a pitcher off white wine sangria amongst three of us, and it was priced at $40. Now call me a hater but sangria isn't my thing. I rather drink fruit juice. Your better off with some red or white wine for that kinda price. We had brunch here today and it was incredible. We had the vegan benny and they were incredibly good. Then we couldn't resist having the Vegan Sausage Pizza. So good and unlike Vegan sausage and vegan cheese you get at so many other places, this has just the right amount and they actually make the vegan sausage and parmigiana from scratch. Pizza crust was just right. The chef even came to our table and chatted with us . Super friendly. Three coloured women, all healthcare professionals in the community walked in to Il Fornello on the Danforth this past weekend to catch up after two years - it has been kind of busy as you can imagine. We sat down to enjoy a delicious dinner and evening out, but unfortunately, we experienced neither. We were served by a very passive aggressive, rude, racist waitress who consistently rolled her eyes at simple requests. We had asked for an extra menu to browse take-out options to bring home after our meal. The waitress quickly walked past our table and grabbed the menu before we could order any take out - I had to call her back and ask her to leave the menu, which prompted another eye roll. Every time she placed food or drinks at our table, she set them down and walked away, uninterested in asking if there was anything else that we wanted or if the meal was good. We thought nothing of it as it was a busy evening and the restaurant was full. The meatballs that were ordered tasted awful so we couldn't finish them and asked for take out containers. There were very small portions of uneaten food left over, but somehow the waitress brought us the biggest take out containers she could find. We had to call her over and ask for smaller containers as well as bags so we could each carry our food home. She brought smaller containers and then provided the biggest bags she could find. Each time, rolling her eyes at our very reasonable and logical requests, and walking away before we could ask for anything more. All seemingly innocent, until we noticed that every other table that she served was done so with a smile. It became clear at this point that we were being treated this way as we were the only coloured people in the restaurant. I chose to leave a tip because not tipping further reinforces any preconceived notions people might have about coloured folk. But this unfortunately does not fix the root cause of the issue - system racism that allows for such beliefs and behaviour. Essentially, I rewarded her for making us feel unwelcome. As we paid our bills, we noticed the franchise owner walking around and greeting her white Canadian customers - we were utterly repulsed. I left a scathing review about this on Touch Bistro Dine which has not surprisingly been taken down. It did however prompt a phone call from the franchise owner this morning who left me a voicemail message stating, "sorry you felt that way". She was unfortunately not sorry for the behaviour that drew up those feelings. She failed to acknowledge the racist, condescending behaviour of her staff that she should have been apologizing for. I will not be gaslit and made to believe that my feelings were the problem here. Il Fornello is an establishment that perpetuates systemic racism - my friends and family will not be returning to any of Il Fornello's locations going forward. We will not force you to welcome us and then reward you for it. It is utterly despicable how empowered some feel by supremacist movements around the globe that I am now left to deal with it in the middle of multicultural Toronto no less. read more

We had a wonderful dinner tonight at il Fornello on the Danforth. This restaurant is very clean, and the service is wonderful. My wife ordered the Spaghetti Bolognese, while I had the Steak. Both were cooked perfectly. Our server Liisa was very attentive, and was proactive in ensuring our needs were met at each step of our dining experience. The portions are not overwhelming, and you get great value for your money. The staff are very helpful. All of the chefs are approachable, fun, and know their stuff. They are all first class! One in particular is James, who worked tonight on the appetizer and salad station. James prepared us an excellent caesar salad and a wonderful creme brulee and tiramisu deserts. Il Fornello is one of many nice looking restaurants on the Danforth, and we thought we'd give it a try. Our server introduced herself and told us she was in training, which was not a big problem except for the fact that between her and her trainer, they pretty much forgot about our table. We saw them when we placed our orders and when we received them, and that was pretty much it. We had to flag them down to get our bill. No check-ins, no drink refills, nothing. The food itself was hit and miss. The seafood chowder was delicious - flavourful and not too fishy. The Pepperoni pizza was soggy and cold. The Veal Limone was good, but the vegetable that came with it (rapini) was unchewable. Based on the quality of our food and our absent servers, we decided to skip dessert. Since there are so many other dining choices on the Danforth, I would choose one of those before going back to this Il Fornello location again. read more

gnocchi(or lasagna) and glass of wine special for $15, was what brought us in. It's nice inside and all the food was of pretty high quality, my party got gnocchi ( the tomato and the cream sauce), lasanga and a ceasar salad. Everything tasted freshly made and full of flavor, Hard to describe other than what you would want it to taste like. Even the extras like Parmesan cheese and pepper are fresh. Can't remember the red wine we had but for a wine on special it was excellent. Very full flavored and strong, I got very crunk off of the two glasses I had. Although I usually just have homemade italian food this is not a bad place at all to go, I like seven numbers a little better but this place certainly holds up. read more
