I don't know how this place has a 4 star average for reviews. I would listen to all the 1 star ratings. Long story short: I came here on Monday around 10am and didn't receive the best customer service and the food I ordered was not the best quality for the expensive price tag. I'll probably never return here in the future. Their menu changed since the last time I came in (which was probably months ago). So I asked about the Turkish bagel with lettuce, tomatoes, cheese, and bacon. The lady at the cash suggested an item which was similar but it also comes with egg. I went with her suggestion and told her to also add bacon to my order. I even confirmed that I was okay with the egg that comes with it. My total came to almost $6 ($5.95?) so I thought, ok paying $6 for a breakfast style bagel, it should be good. But it wasn't at all. It was soggy even though the bagel itself was toasted and the bacon was over cooked and hard. *Keep in mind, this bagel at full price is actually $8.99+ tax (see below in my next paragraph for details why).* So for $10.16 after tax, I had expected a much better quality. I could've had a better breakfast bagel at McDonald's or Tim Hortons for half or even 1/3 the price. On another note, the horrible customer service I received was from the lady who served me at cash. After a gentleman made my order, I told him that it should have came with cheese and egg which he missed adding it in. The lady jumped in and said that I didn't order that even though I confirmed my order with her when paying. Then she insisted that I pay an extra $3+ tax for the egg since apparently what I wanted is actually $8.99+ tax. I told her exactly what I wanted in the beginning and even confirmed with her a second time when paying. She was also the one who made the suggestion... so I don't understand how she kept fighting that I needed to pay $3+ tax extra and how she kept saying that I was in the wrong. If you're working in a customer service environment, making them feel like they're in the wrong even though they weren't, isn't professional at all and will lose customers like me. read more

Did a catering order with Bread & Bowl for wraps, sandwiches, and salads. The owner is incredibly genuine and their food quality is amazing. The spreads and dressing were all in-house made and super flavourful. And their sandwiches and wraps didn't skimp on the fillings and meat. The salads were also very generous with the toppings. My favourite food item was their TURKISH STYLE CHICKEN WRAPS. It had an amazing humus spread, fried potatoes, sprouts, and moist chicken! Great place! Opens at 8am! Gluten Free Bread for breakfast or sandwiches, finally more restaurants are getting gluten free bread. It's really not that hard for establishments, all they have to do is freeze the bread and when they need it pop it in the toaster and ready to go, it's not like we don't pay more for the option so just put it in the freezer! I had bacon and eggs with gluten free bread and it was good for $9. So maybe a little expensive but ok. It located on the corner of Elm and Murray st just west of University. The only reason I didn't give them a 5 star rating was because for Toronto and the location 8am is too late to open, they should be open at minimum 7am. Overall good food service with a smile. Last week I was just BLOWN away by the customer service at Bread & Bowl. I went in there, with the goal to buy a soup to add to my rice which I brought from home. Unfortunately, their blackboard only featured one soup on it - a tomato soup, which I'm not a fan of tomato-based soups... the server then says, "Wait, let me check if we're completely out of our other soup." And she goes immediately behind the counter to check. But alas, she comes back and says, "It's not enough to fill a cup for you - sorry!" I smile, thanked her for checking, and started heading out the door. But the manager (and likely, owner?) who had been close by, turns to me and says, "Wait! You can have it. We'll give it to you for free." This kindly, older gentleman starts heading back to the counter, before I could respond. Caught off guard, I asked, "Are you sure?" "Yes, just wait." He personally scoops up all possible remnants of the sold-out soup. And comes around the counter, and hands me the take-out cup, with crackers and spoon. He smiled at me and said - with complete genuine care, "You deserve it." I so was surprised, and touched by the gesture. I just kept saying thank you as I walked out the door. If you're in the area, check out this place - for good food, and even BETTER customer service. PS. I never even thought of asking what flavour their other soup was! When I got back to the office, I opened the lid to find my favourite soup: squash. PPS. The cup of soup was nearly full to the brim! PPPS. Stopped by after work looking for soup and was immediately greeted right up beside me by the owner asking what I wanted. Whoas, there is good service, but then there is a pressure to make a decision fast. Luckily I knew exactly what I wanted and got a broccoli small soup for 5.65 after tax. The soup came 3/4 full in a paper takeaway container but on a china plate with a plastic spoon. A weird mix of materials in a single place but okay. The soup itself bland except for the large chunks of black pepper floating around. I might have still liked it if it wasn't for the fact that it came tepid. One of the worst places I have been to. The customer service here is HORRIBLE. I will start off with a few pros to this place cause I have many cons. PROS: This restaurant is located in front of mount Sinai hospital and is very spacious. Lots of seating inside and outside of the restaurant. The space itself looked trendy and modern. I got a veggie grilled wrap which was good, flavour wise once I added in the chipotle sauce. CONS: The pricing here is ridiculous. I understand it's downtown so Of course the prices will be jacked up but wow my veggie wrap was $11.50 and it wasn't even a big wrap it was small. I was not allowed to add an additional toppings either (it was additional charge for every topping so I did not get any). The veggie wrap was good but only cause I added an additional sauce (chipotle). The wrap is small is not worth $11 and is super dry as they only add humus. It includes only grilled veggies which were kinda oily. The rest of the items on their list also looked super expensive so I was not thrilled about that. I could have just went to the Freshii nearby for that price. Aside from the food, which I could have dealt with... the customer service was beyond dissatisfying. This older woman who worked there (Wednesday in the evenings), was completely rude. They had a napkin tray to get napkins and I got 1 NAPKIN which is not enough when eating... and when I went to grab a second piece of napkin she questioned me asking if it was necessary to get more. When I told her one was definitely not enough and I needed at least 1 more she TOLD ME just one was enough for the wrap lol. Then I said please I would like another and asked if she minded and she said yes she minded and TOOK AWAY THE TRAY..... LOL. I don't understand what kind of customer service this was and they weren't even busy it was literally only me in the restaurant. So I was confused why she was being stingy and petty for?! Upon entry, B&B has some modern touches with creative looking menus displayed on the walls. One section of the establishment was a cafe where you could get all kinds of espressos, cappuccinos and coffee - while another side of the restaurant has a pizzeria and pasta making station. Each of the chairs have been branded with B&B and the area itself was a nice, comfortable space. The restaurant was a quiet sit serving a variety of pasta, sandwiches, and salads. It had been established 4 years ago in the city and has continued to serve a diverse group of people in both catering matters as well as lunch and breakfast. I was honoured to have a taste of everything Bread and Bowl has to offer - and you can definitely see their ability to cater just with this one sitting! Bread and Bowl has many offerings such as house made salads, pizzas, soups, and energy balls from the cafe. Each of the salads would be perfectly crafted with fresh vegetables and tomatoes. The salads can also be tossed with baked eggs and/or cheese to your liking. The salads that I have tried were tossed in a simple vinaigrette and tasted extremely fresh. Salads that you order at B&B can be custom made and you have a choice of different types of spring leaves such as romaine and mixed greens. In addition, you have a choice of 26 different toppings to customize your salad to your liking. I was also offered a Spinach Soup which was piping hot and served well as an appetizer. This was paired with a bread called Boreq that was stuffed with cheese and spinach as well. I never thought that I would enjoy spinach as much as I did with this selection! You also have a choice to order the Boreq with a salad, if you want. The pizzas consisted of a Pida Vegetarian Pizza, Turkish Pizza (which has Halal Turkey Sausage and Mozzarella), and Chicken Rustica. My favourite pizza from B&B for sure would be the Chicken Rustica - it consisted of a pesto sauce, BBQ sauce with grilled chicken and caramelized onions that added so strongly to the flavour, in the best way possible! The Turkish Pizza was also a fine choice, and was cut in a way that could serve a group of people (the same goes for the Pida Vegetarian Pizza). The cafe selections at B&B are also a huge hit with the city folks. We have "In-The-House Baklaba" which is a rolled dessert of some sort with pistachio and baked to perfection. The first bites into this Turkish dessert was very sweet and caramelized which made it a delicious treat. They also have a selection of Marshmellow Rice Krispies at the front of the cafe which is a sure option for those who enjoy sweets. Also in the cafe section of the restaurant, you can have a choice of No-Sugar Energy Balls, Energy Balls with Figs, Apricot, Apple, Walnut Molasses and Cinnamon, Brownies or Cappuccino. Of course there are a variety of options for hot beverages such as coffee, americanos, or lattes, but a cappuccino was what I craved most that day (and it was splendid). These are all great options for you to start your morning and B&B makes these selections fresh and ready to go for you. Last but not least, I had a chance to indulge in Chicken Club Sandwiches and Turkish Bagels - which are both popular items on the menu at B&B. These selections are a sure choice for brunch or lunch - and serves to fill all your satiation needs. The food is very fresh and delicious. The salad and dessert were both healthy and tasty. Their almond flour walnut square with honey was a good choice as was the Niçoise salad. Good choices for people who are wheat free. I'd have that again for sure and I'd like to try something else like their sandwiches during a future lunch. Highly recommended by a co-worker and she was not wrong. This place has been open for about 4mths and the owner (I assume) Frank really takes pride in his restaurant & food. His presence is really lovely and just such a nice person! I ended up having their pizza which is a decent personal size. Thin crust and generous with toppings. They have their own staple pizzas or you can customize your own. Frank took our order, told us to pay and he's bring it to us. The payment process is alittle confusing and a little TOO trusting. You basically go to to cashier and tell them what you ordered. You could tell them anything or even walk out for that matter. I think they should have a better way of doing this by paying then ordering or by the server giving you a paper to give to the cashier. One of the best places to have lunch in the area. Everything is fresh and made in house - and you can tell! I have had the salads and the pizza (still waiting to try the soups and sandwiches) and everything is delicious and filling. Their pizzas (my favourite) are made in front of you and seriously filling. Their meatball pizza is amazing and can fill me up for the entire day! On top of their excellent food, their customer service cannot be beat. Everyone is nice, friendly and serves you with a smile. The gentleman who owns the place (at least I think he does) is always apologetic if the line is long and he once gave everyone in line a coupon for a free breakfast sandwich. Been here twice to get food. First time I got a chicken BLT sandwich. It tasted fresh and a great mix of flavours and bun. The coleslaw on the other hand was extremely small and had a little too much acidity. The second time I got the pulled pork pizza. It was very good and was actually loaded with toppings. You could likely split it in half for a lunch and still be full. My gripe with this place is the price. Everything comes out to at least $10. I see the appeal, the quality is definitely there, but it hurts to spend $10 on a sandwich. Maybe all the business folks in the area can afford it, but when you have the grange food court a 5 min walk away and Chinatown another 10, it's hard to say Bread + Bowl is value. If it was priced $2-3 cheaper, I'd give this 4 stars. 3 stars because I can't give it 3.5 and the prices are fairly high for "fast food". read more

Customer service & quality of food quite good, and decent prices. I've been to this venue once, and m'lady frequents it on a regular basis. They have a soup of the day, and they seem to be tweaking which soup to have on which week-day, which is why I'm assuming they have yet to officially list the soup of the day on their website or at the store. However, the lady who I suspect to be the owner is quite eager to help. She wrote down each of the weekly soups of the day on a note for me, which I gave to m'lady. I've tried a few of their soups each of which comes with a roll of bread, and I must say that all of the ones I've tried have been to die for. All-in-all, I think that if they were open on week-ends and if they had their weekly soup of the day posted in a way that I could reference easily, this place with be 5-star one in my books. Great options for vegans! I had the vegetarian pizza with no cheese. It was fresh and delicious and came pretty quickly. Other options for vegans include custom pizzas, sandwiches and salads. There are also daily soups that change. Ask to see if they are vegan that day. The set up is little different if you are dining in. You order at the counter and they bring the food to you. When you're done, you go up to pay. There are a lot of "grab and go" items prepared fresh that morning if you are in a rush. The owner and staff were all super friendly and helpful. Will definitely be back. Note: The location is wheelchair accessible. There is a ramp on the right side of the building and the front door features an automatic door opener. The washrooms have accessible stalls with multiple grab bars. The door to the washroom does not have an opener and is a little heavy BUT the owner and staff are so incredible that they will assist and prop the door open during your stay. read more

The woman asked if I had been there before and when k said no she came out from behind the counter and showed me around, walking me through the menu and pointing out specials. She have me a breakfast and lunch/dinner menu and said if we call ahead, they can have take out ready for pickup. Pasta and mushrooms dominated the dish and the "grilled chicken" was barely visible, almost microscopic. Worst sandwich experience, and I've eaten at Druxys. I went in my a friend and we both decided on sandwiches. The woman behind the counter wasn't rude but was acting as if she had no idea how to do anything. This is fine except she had no one with her. The place was empty and it took 10 minutes for me to order JUST MY sandwich and for her to put literally mustard, mayo and lettuce on it. After the longest sandwich building experience of my life she goes to the back for another 5 minutes and comes back with her manager who tells me they have no turkey. Now I haven't been at all rude up until this point so I'm not sure why she felt she needed her manager to tell me this, but I digress. I tell them that I wouldn't have stuck around at all if I knew that they didn't have turkey, as that's the only sandwich I wanted out of their poor selection (considering they're mainly a deli). The manager was rude after this point and told me "well you don't have to stay." No shit. Needless to say I got out of there quick, went to Sid's Deli down the street, and had an amazing experience! I come here everytime I have to take my sister in to the hospital for her Cancer appointments and this is literally the most healthiest and organic restaurant around this area. The prices are adequate considering they have fresh everything and organic everything, I don't know why there are so many complaints about staff because if you walk in wit ha smile the staff does not scowl at you or act rude, if you walk in hating life then obviously anyone would respond to you in the same way, how ever everytime I go into this place the staff are always perky and kind they always make sure to ask me how my meal was and I don't see that type of care at any other place in the city. They have the most amazing desserts and their cakes are to die for!, the coffee is amazing but I love the make your own pizza option the portions are perfect for one person if your a big eater or if your like me and eat little you can share with another person, I usually have enough to take home for the next day or dinner depending on the time of day I come here. The portions are large and as I said for the prices they charge and freshness and organic features they have is perfect, I'de rather pay what they ask for here and know what I'm eating rather then going to a cheap place and paying for food that number one wasn't made with care and number two isn't healthy for you at all. its Must Try! definitely a hidden Gem in the heart of downtown Toronto read more

This is a wonderful place for people on chemo. The food is healthy, much of it organic and the service is fantastic. It is a clean restaurant and they will accommodate all your unusual requests if they can.
