Of all the healthy takeout spots in the downtown core, this place takes the prize. It was a hidden gem, really! I had never heard of this place until my boyfriend suggested it. Tucked away in a corner near the Shangri-la hotel, it's cozy and has a large variety of options on the menu, from salads, breakfast yogurt, to sandwiches and soups. We got two sandwich combos to try: - Chicken breast sandwich: Got this one with the potato focaccia bread. Mindblown that they had such niche options of bread (aside from typical sourdough and whole wheat that other places would offer)! The goat cheese was so fresh and the chicken was juicy. 10/10 - Braised beef brisket sandwich: I'm not usually one who goes for braised beef, I usually find it very tough. But this was pulled apart and easy to bite through and the tomatoes and coleslaw were amazing and added to the juice. 10/10 Both came with a side salad. The salad itself wasn't extraordinary but obviously understandable to not overpower the sandwich, the star of the show. Service was friendly and the staff were very attentive. Only a couple spots for seating so would recommend takeout when it gets busy. It was also open on the weekends which is rare for food places located in business buildings. I don't give 10/10 lightly here. But this place was truly amazing, a very fair price, and if I worked nearby I think I would find myself here every day (I even came back another day to try a salad - also amazing). There was sign outside with some of the most delicious looking smoothies on them! We asked "are these sweet or truly healthy?" We were told healthy yet sweet. The drinks ended up being tasty but let's be clear, they tasty more healthy than they do sweet. The pics give a totally different expectation and that's the only reason I mention that. Healthy food on the go is what Green Box Express does best! I grabbed quick lunches here twice during my work-related stay in downtown Toronto, and it was nice to have tasty, healthy, nutrient-rich fuel for my body that didn't make me feel gross after eating it. My go-to is the vegan sandwich, a yummy sammy made with roasted eggplant, red peppers, tomatoes, arugula, avocado, and a sundried tomato tapenade. I have never ordered anything else off the menu here because it's so good! Ask for whatever hearty grain bread they have for the day. The vegan sandwich supposedly comes with a side "salad," but I find that claim laughable. Each time, my salad was different, bitter, sad, and a weird mix of lettuces or shredded cabbage. The dressing was okay but the amount given was inadequate. The sandwich is by far the superstar of the meal. I also tried the fresh squeezed orange juice, but I found it to be a little too bitter and wouldn't get it again, especially for the price. They run daily specials that I'll have to try next time (I'm curious about their salmon). There are several grab-and-go, ready prepared salads, sides, and meals in the cooler as you enter. This is where you can also find the fresh juices. If you want to order a special menu item, salad, meal, or sandwich, go up to the main counter to order. There is plenty of outdoor seating which is great on a nice afternoon, but the inside is quite cramped. People place their orders and then just stand around, crowding the restaurant and making it confusing if you're trying to order yourself. I found this spot after searching for restaurants in the financial district. It's honestly rare that these quick(er) eateries are open on a Saturday so this was a welcome sight. We got the following, which both came with a side salad: - braised beef brisket sandwich - chicken breast sandwich The sandwiches were awesome - a five star experience if it was just for those. The beef brisket was so juicy and it was prepared like pulled pork! The chicken sandwich had a good mix of protein and veggies featuring eggplant and roasted peppers. I also liked how each sandwich allows for the choice of their breads, and I picked ancient grain. The breads held the toppings well and everything tasted delicious in harmony. The side salad is where I have to take a bit off, as the mixed greens were fairly bitter together with a vinegar dressing which didn't do much. The staff were friendly and prepared everything diligently, and this spot has some seating (not recommended for groups) inside. Located right beside the Shangri La Hotel. It was packed (and loud) around 1pm, so I had to wait about 15 mins for my brisket sandwich. I didnt realize it came with a salad so that was pretty nice. Ordered the chicken spaghetti for the first time on June 5th 2025 around 8:30 pm from Green Box Yonge Street Toronto. There was a small metal wire inside the tomatoes that come with the spaghetti. I ordered from Green Box Express again for their yummy egg salad sandwich, and it did not disappoint, yummy herby egg stuffed inside two pieces of healthy bread. A must-try here, I say the best egg salad sandwich! This time I tried their homemade greek yoghurt with chia seeds, almond butter and sweetened with dates and honey. I'm pretty impressed it's so fresh, thick and rich, so you have to eat it slowly, but it's something that it's such a nice treat that doesn't make me feel guilty after finishing. My new favourite place to go for quick healthy eats. Located conveniently on University, just south of Richmond. Directly beside Momofuku. I had lived in the area for years and walked by this place dozens of times before finally trying it because they always seemed to be closed. They have extended hours now and are open evenings and Saturdays. They offer a wide selection of delectable hot sandwiches for a very fair price. All sandwiches come with a salad (burger comes with roasted potatoes). The roast beef, chicken breast and burger are my favourite. Great salads. Great breakfast options. Great pastries. Great coffee! They also offer homemade ice cream and entrees like salmon, chicken parm, pasta and poke too but I've yet to try any of them. They use high quality ingredients for all of their dishes and work with/support other local small businesses. I tried this place on the recommendation of a friend, and was happy I did as it was filling, fresh, and relatively healthy. I tried a prosciutto sandwich, which came with my choice of 4 toppings and a side salad. The sandwich itself was great - the Fred's bread they use really makes a difference! I was tight for time and needed to pick something up for lunch on my way home, and remembered that Green Box have pre-made sandwiches and salads. I grabbed an egg salad sandwich on multigrain for $5 which I thought was very reasonable. They also had chicken salad, an assortment of salads and fruit cups. The sandwich itself was pretty good, and was clearly made fresh. I liked the bread which wasn't too thick or chewy, and had a nice bite to it. The egg salad was seasoned well and was also very fresh. If you're looking for a decent sandwich in the Financial District that won't break the bank, I'd give it a try. The only downside is that there is a small selection, unless you're willing to pay twice the price to have a sandwich made fresh with your choice of ingredients. Standard place serving healthy sandwiches made with fresh ingredients. I liked the build your own sandwich option - I tried the smoked salmon on a ciabatta bread with some fresh veggies. It wasn't bad but it wasn't amazing - met expectations. For the price I paid, I was hoping to get more salmon and an overall more filling meal.. Let's say I was still hungry and I was able to grab another lunch at a Thai place nearby within an hour and a half. This place isn't bad at all. This is my first ever review and I am So happy It's for my fav lunch spot. This place was previously located inside a small convenience store on queen. A hidden gem. I was blown away then by the service and quality. And now that they have grown and moved to Their new location their service and quality has only gotten better. I go at least 3 times a week for a sandwich and salad. As a vegan I find it really hard to find quick and delicious places I can go to that also don't break the bank. They offer a huge variety of sandwich options for anyone. Omnivore and vegans alike. the most delicious breads as well. They always have vegan option and a meat option for soup too if salad isn't your thing. If giant salads are your thing have no fear. They have the biggest salad bar to build your own I have ever seen. I tried to get a pic but it was so busy I couldn't get the whole bar in the shot lol. Since moving they also added a coffee bar and freshly Baked goods that look super enticing when paying but I have yet to try. The staff treat the customers amazing. I have been here so many times and it doesn't matter how busy it is they are efficient and always treat their guests with such a nice cheery atmosphere. Tough review to write. First, I will say that I am here almost every single day for lunch. I previously would pick up salads at the Rabba on Simcoe, but they started being mostly just spinach and almost no toppings, so I was excited when something new opened up equally close by. My first issue that I have is the cleanliness of the "salad bar". The tongs are always scattered all over the place, so handles are actually ending up in the food containers, which means everyone's germy, winterty hands are going all over the food. There are no food labels and cross contamination is all over the place, so if you have an allergy, stay away. They used to have a lot more selection and now it's just the same toppings again and again. Sometimes, especially by Friday, they don't look so fresh or new anymore. The prepackaged beet/goat cheese salad is pretty good, and so is the weird "chia yogurt" concoction they have. I've only ever had soup one time (usually the flavours don't appeal to me at ), it was a tomato soup, the small size looks REALLY SMALL but it was a good amount, very very salty, and came with a slice of olive bread (wasn't given a choice of bread). The line is confusing (you are supposed to line up to order sandwiches but if you have something just to pay for, like pre-packaged or salad bar, you can skip the line - there should be signage for this). The girl who does the checkout is friendly and often helps me close my salad container (SO HARD TO CLOSE!), but the dude who owns the restaurant/the manager is not friendly - to me. He's very friendly to everyone else. He literally has never said "hi" to me or smiled at me or acknowledged me, often looking right past me and saying hi to someone else in line, even though I'm there every day. This has irked me since the beginning. I tried some varied approaches - smiling at him first, looking him in the eyes, etc - but nada. I am not sure what that's about although I have theories. Today he gave the woman ahead of me who was buying LESS than me a plastic bag with handles, and when I asked for a bag, they gave me a paper bag (it was pouring rain out). With a wide selection of bread, toppings, sauce and extras, my usual favorite is the smoked salmon on panini bread with chipotle mayo and goat cheese.
