Solid spot for sushi! If I lived nearby I would definitely be here on the regular. The sushi was delicious and you can tell they put time and care into their preparations. I think the owner was walking around checking in with everyone and that really made us feel special. It's very no frills but I appreciate that

Wish I knew about this place sooner! It's tucked under an apartment building so it's easy to miss. It's a small establishment and pretty clean. They have awkward opening and closing times. So before going just make sure they are open. The hostess was very warm and attentive. Their sushi was SO good! There is so much more I have to explore on their menu but their Spider Roll and Firecracker Roll were perfect. No complaints at all. I love a good Spider Roll and this was the best I've had so far. The sushi chef's definitely seemed to know what they were doing! They also wore gloves when making the sushi as well, which is definitely a plus. This is officially my favorite local sushi spot.

I live across the street from Ikko Sushi, which is located in the Bennington apartment building. I decided to try it out. There is a small dining area inside and plenty of outdoor seating. It had steady customers each of the three times I came in. I ordered takeout directly at the counter inside. The service is GREAT and the real reason for my review. Across my three visits, I ordered sashimi, beef udon, shrimp shumai, shoyu ramen, and yakisoba. They also have about twelve alcohol (sake) options to-go and I ordered two different kinds across my three visits. The sake is good. The food just isn't anything to write home about. Everything had a similar flavor across dishes and wasn't all that flavorful. It tasted bland. That being said, the sashimi was fresh and they had a nice variety and big pieces. I think that's where they might shine. I will try the sushi again, but won't order anything off the rest of the menu. I will probably stop in for some sake from time to time.

If you're lucky, you'll get Amber as your waitress; we were fortunate to have her when she was volunteering to help out at Ikko. Amber was attentive and patient and even brought me a new pair of chopsticks three seconds after I dropped my pair. We were sitting outside and I didn't think anyone had noticed but there she came as my savior with a new pair! I ordered the veggie and sweet potato roll and enjoyed both. The sweet potato roll was awesome and came with some added crunch on top. My boyfriend had the crab and sweet potato roll. Our meals also came with free miso soup and a bowl of edamame on the house. Miso soup was soothing! Much to my surprise and satisfaction, we were given two servings of watermelon for dessert since it's "good for my skin." It was the best summer treat ever! I ate two slices and then had no shame in saying I would take two more because it was so sweet and refreshing. I would really give Ikko 4.5 stars but I ordered take out the other day and the two cardboard cartons of miso soup imploded in my bag and there was tofu and seaweed swimming around by the time we got home. I tried to be careful but I think plastic may be a better option for carrying out soup (or maybe I'm just that clumsy).

I am definitely coming back to this place. A hidden gem. The sushi was delicious and our server was friendly. She was very kind and welcoming. The place was cozy but enough space between each table. If you love sushi, definitely try this wonderful place with very friendly servers.

Very convenient spot for take out sushi in silver spring. During COVID, they are only doing take out and delivery, but they have learned how to make this process efficient. I've previously experienced long wait times here but in my opinion their average wait time has significantly decreased. They've got very reasonable prices, my order is always accurate, and staff is friendly. I really like the DC monument roll - a giant sushi tower with lots of fish and sauce. I've also had the rainbow roll a few times and I typically love it although one time I ordered this roll and I could tell by the look and smell of the fish it was not fresh which turned me off a bit. I've eaten here many times and this only happened once so I know it was rare, but it has made me nervous to try again.

Anyone know if they have tamari (soy sauce alternative)? And are the chefs willing to make rolls naruto style (cucumber instead of rice)?

My major contention with this experience is that our waiter, Zoe was inattentive and unprofessional. Our dessert arrived 5 minutes after receiving our dinner. I asked her if they could make our dessert fresh and her response was, how long will it take you to eat? To which I responded I don't know. It was an odd experience because most waiters are attentive enough to know when a table is ready for dessert or they simply ask. As I expected, by the time we received the fried ice cream, the plate looked sloppy and the ice cream on the inside was melted. It clearly was the same plate. Finally, while I was packing my dinner she seemed to recall she never brought me chili paste I had asked for during dinner. No apology or anything. Overall, it was a disappointing experience from a waiter who should be retrained.

It took a few minutes for someone to come to the register but I wasn't in a rush so I waited quietly. The kitchen looked very clean and well organized. I didn't check out the restrooms but they are available for customers. I don't blame the establishment but I wrongly assumed the fried rice would be Japanese style. LoL! I know the words but can't put them in the right order so there was a language barrier happening here. LoL! Some of the food on the hot bar looked like it had been sitting for quite some time under the lamp and it looked very dried out. I ordered the beef teriyaki, my husband ordered the chicken / beef / shrimp teriyaki, and our daughter had the chicken teriyaki. We ordered extra Yum Yum sauce to go with it. I didn't taste everyone else's this time because I was hyper focused on mine. The Beef Teriyaki was bland. There was no flavor until I dipped the beef in the Yum Yum Sauce. I asked for steam white rice and I received fried rice. Long review short, I didn't eat this because I'm going to have to add some seasonings from home to hype it up for it to be good. My husband on the other hand enjoyed his dish because of the shrimp. Our daughter ate a big portion of hers. She didn't say whether or not she liked it. 2.5 Stars.

March 2019: I had a date with this woman I briefly dated who lived in Arlington. It was her first time seeing me on my home tuff, Maryland. Funny her name was the same as my ex-g/f of a year earlier. See my McGinty's Irish Pub review in downtown Silver Spring I just wrote where I reference that ex. My friend called my ex her name #1 & this woman as her name #2. I picked this nice sushi restaurant on this very cold March night. It's a bit of a hole in the wall and on a strange one-way on the back side of Georgia Ave. But in spite of those minor negatives, wow this place was impressive. This is possibly the 2nd best sushi I've ever had. Service was cordial. August 2019: I remembered that Moby Dick was great that I took my relatively new girlfriend at that time. She was impressed with them too. February 2020: On Tuesday, February 25, 2020, my girlfriend took the Metro to DC for work. I dropped her off at the Metro, and after I dropped her off, I realized she left her phone in my car. I tried to turn around to see if she was still there, but she wasn't. So, I took her phone with me to my office. I had both phones with me. I think I let some friends of ours know what was going on. Ultimately, on the evening commute, someone on the Metro was nice to let her borrow his phone. I met up with her. We had a movie too and weren't able to coordinate timing. So, we didn't have time for dinner and went straight to movie. We got popcorn to hold us over; I think it was my birthday popcorn I get from AMC. After the movie, we ate a late dinner at Moby Dick. I knew she had a rough day and was stressful for me too that I wanted to treat her & myself to sushi we knew was good. Once again, Moby Dick didn't disappoint.
