Steaks, Steaks, Steaks! We couldn't go to Texas without having some red meat, so we found III Forks through Yelp. The French Onion soup was perfect, with plenty of cheese to spare. We had heard rave reviews about the Bone-In Ribeye, so 4 of the 6 of us went for it. The other 2 shared the Porterhouse. The meat was tender and well seasoned. I ordered Medium, and it came that way, something that seems hard for some restaurants to accomplish. The waiter was pretty dry, but he got the job done. Definitely a pricy place, but worth trying if you're looking for a good steak. read more

Always great! Love the service. Big fan of the $1 oysters and champagne deal they have going on right now. Mickey the bartender is always fantastic. This is the top 5 steaks I've had. read more

Excellent customer service and tasty food. Raw oyster were very fresh. Many food choices for happy hour. Good quality restaurant overall.

Our dinner at III Forks was good but not worth the price. We were seated in a back corner of a ball room for large parties that felt cavernous and empty. Server was very nice but always seemed distracted with something else. Would have appreciated slightly more focused attention. We took the recommendation for the chicken fried lobster bites as a starter and they were average. The filet mignon steaks were the best part of our meal however my wife's had a bit of fat on it. Not what I would expect for a $40 a la carte steak. Both steaks were cooked perfectly. The sides are meant to share so we ordered brussel sprouts and scalloped potatoes. The brussel sprouts were not good. They were tough as if the whole sprout was stalk. The potatoes were cheesy potatoes. Nothing special about them. Overall it was just good but not special. I do appreciate the multiple times the restaurant acknowledged our anniversary celebration. The host stand mentioned it when we checked in. Our server was very nice to bring us each a tasty dessert drink from the bar and dessert on the house to celebrate. Very classy of them to help us celebrate. Next time I'm in the mood for a nice steak I'll go to Sullivan's or Steiner Ranch. read more

Last night, I went to III Forks with my boyfriend. We were greeted well, seated immediately (with our reservation) and sat down to an amazing meal. We started with onion rings and a crab cake. They were both amazing! The onion rings came out as this tower of golden perfection. They were some of the best I've had. I'm not a huge crab fan - but the crab cake was delicious - tender with a nice crisp top - so fabulous! Next, we shared a wedge salad which was not only delicious, but beautifully presented. The tomato was exactly how I prefer them - which is hard currently due to the produce shortages from the recent freezing weather. My boyfriend ordered a filet mignon and I ordered the prime rib and we added a side of mushrooms. The mashed potatoes were deliciously prepared and seasoned and the meat was so perfect it practically melted in our mouths. The desserts were awesome (we ordered two - the chocolate mousse and the bread pudding). The bread pudding was TO DIE FOR. It was warm and spiced perfectly with a perfect scoop of delicious Amy's ice cream. While the food was all amazing and great - what I can say for III Forks is that the service was exceptionally great. Our server, Eric, was attentive without being overly in our space. We never wanted for anything. Even the water guy was spot on, filling water glasses before they were empty and doing so without intruding. Everyone was so nice and really made out visit great. My boyfriend proposed to me after dinner and I must say that the waitstaff and the managers were so kind to congratulate us and provide a delicious glass of champagne for us to celebrate with. Thankfully, the food and service were amazing, which really helped create the best night of my life so far. read more

Emily Stevens was awesome to work with as she coordinated my group of 18 for a memorable dinner. She was so easy to work with and made planning so simple. We loved the private room and our servers Nick and Josh went above and beyond to provide us with amazing service. I had the surf and turf and truly enjoyed it. The kitchen did not disappoint either. We had a nice variety of food all cooked to perfection. A must visit when you are in Austin. read more

III Forks is a great spot for dinner meetings if you have a party that requires a private room. The service is excellent and they have this entire set up down pat. The food is good and the sides are particularly good. The atmosphere is perfect, never to crowded or never too quiet. I've had multiple meetings here and we continue to go back. On the flip side, I've taken my wife here a few times and each time there has been something that has me rethinking this place as a date spot. The restaurant has the same attributes as above, but there are so many great places in Austin, that this is not my go to place. Being gluten and dairy free, they have worked with me on my choices and it seemed like my last waitress knew the menu quite well in these terms. That however may have been server specific because I see another reviewer with a completely different experience. read more

Went here the day before V-day. In terms of food, I give it a 4. Had the seafood medley as an app. It was good. If you're pretty hungry, you should probably not share 1. The bread they gave us was really good too. We both had the filet mignon. It was really good, cooked the way we wanted. Came w/ veggies and mashed potatoes. Solid sides. Nice bottle of wine too. Reason I give it a 3 star is because of the atmosphere. The good, there was piano player and he was playing some good stuff. The bad, we had a small table and felt like we were right on top of another couple. And it didn't help that couple was all over one another and the guy was trying to really impress his date by joking around. Our waitress was nice enough but didn't really check on us much. No big since it's V-day weekend. Place I'd definitely go back to but be sure you get a booth and beware of cheesy guys! read more

Summary: Expensive but worth it. I've eaten the other expensive steak houses, and this one tops them for me. Get the III Forks Salad for sure. Try the bacon-wrapped scallops. The bone-in filet earns every penny. NY Strip Pepper Steak is delicious but not for the palette discriminate against spice. Wine enhances the red meat. And the house hooch? Suffices as dessert and a cocktail in one glass. ----- If curiosity leaves you wondering what your paycheck would taste like if you crumpled it up and put it in your mouth, let me tell you. It would be the epitome of perfection, as long as it was III Forks. I admit that my income cannot afford such extravagance on a regular basis, but being a hedonist, money means little when it comes to experiencing the pleasures of this ephemeral existence. I admit, though; I got off light. The ending tab for two was only $350 with tip. We started with two orders of the Seafood Medley and a III Forks Salad. The shrimp cocktail sparked little in the taste bud department, but the crab cake and, especially, the bacon wrapped scallop ignited a savory explosion of flavors. Bacon, much like avocado, reigns as a dietary staple in my book, so when a place pairs it so harmoniously with a buttery sea critter, I call it success. The crab cake's medley of spices and texture, keeping it firm enough to cut without falling apart but not overly dense, marked it above others I've eaten. The III Forks salad makes you wonder why you hate eating green shrubs. Is it the too tall giant that you confused for Santa Claus as a child because of his jingle or the bitter tastelessness? The combination of pecans, blue cheese, and green apples with the delicious vinaigrette lets loose a sweet, bitter, buttery bite in one sudden impact that leaves you reeling. For the entrees we ordered the bone-in filet and the NY Strip Pepper Steak with the 2005 Black Bart Syrah. The chef cooked the meat to perfection. The bone-in filet cannot be beat in Austin. Marrow flavors the too tender meat with such a buttery body void in other filets that joins with the smooth grain to offer you a taste of heaven. The NY Strip Pepper Steak wasn't mine, but my taste of it left no question that pepper was the main spice. It lit up the mouth in a way that only large quantities of black pepper can. It's almost ulcerous but in a tasty way. Granted, I love spice. The wine's levels of spice mixed well with the Strip and added a delightful fruity spice to the filet. To conclude the meal, the maitre de brought us a bit of the "house hooch." The nectarous concoction made me thankful I skipped dessert. It reminded me of a liquefied rice pudding that with a spicy rum kick. read more

"Old School Steak House" I'm told an old standby in Austin...delivering quality food for years. We'll, that's what we got. It's old school, booths and a tad dark. Not built for big groups which we discovered upon arriving---since their primary seating is booth style. They do have one set of tables that they can improve to seat 10 I believe. Anyway... I ordered the salmon. It is served in a slab of wood. It was cooked perfectly. The asparagus was also tasty. And at the bar , they have happy hour wines by the glass....we fit in a glass pre-dinner. The 4 of us were all very pleased with our meals. read more

I can't say enough about the folks at III Forks. My wife & I had our rehearsal dinner there about 2 months after they opened (which was Oct, 2006, BTW) & have enjoyed going back ever since. The food, service & ambiance is superb. No question about that. The thing which they get blasted for is that they are a "chain." If six locations = chain, then perhaps it is...but it's not like other popular steak houses out there. Please don't let they hold you back. read more

Incredible steak...wagyu beef 18oz with salt on fire. This meal was worth every penny. I paired it with a flight of whiskey and I would select this as my last meal if I was forced to choose. Had a great time here. Were visiting from out of town and needed somewhere for a "special" night out-- this fit the bill. Sommelier was excellent, recommended a really nice pinot noir. Service was attentive without being annoying. We told them that it was our anniversary, so they took our picture and printed it out for us before we left which was a really nice touch. And oh yeah, the food-- delicious! We were both happy with our steaks and crabcake. Sides were very tasty and the dessert menu is not to be skipped. Nice live music in the background. Atmosphere was very "steakhouse-y"-- lots of leather, dark lighting, very comfy. We had a great time here! read more

Had a great experience here last weekend. I give the filet I ordered an 8 - good enough that I really enjoyed it and felt it was worth the coin, but not a mind blowing steak that would pull me back in and of itself. But the cream corn was delicious and the service (by Joelle) was phenomenal. Her recommendations were spot on and she was great to talk to all night. read more

My father-in-law visited us from Indonesia. We hadn't seen him in a while and it was the perfect restaurant for an outstanding meal in downtown Austin. He and my husband ordered steak and I had the Seabass. Our food was perfect and the staff is outstanding. They also have a great lobster bisque which is difficult to find in Austin. I felt like I was in the movie Annie, where 10 staff members are asking her if she likes "silk, no satin sheets, I think?" The restaurant is very comfortable and they have a wine selection that will make you cry. I'm crying right now. read more

My complaint is how over-salted everything was. I like salt, but I wouldn't eat a teaspoon of it straight from the box. By the time I finished my meal, the back of my throat was burning. I still enjoyed the steak for all of its other elements - perfect preparation, an excellent piece of meat. Boy, though - salty. read more

Ate here with a friend for my birthday. The server was very friendly and pretty attentive, though it did take quite a while to get our check at the end. They also took a picture of us for my birthday and gave us two color copies of it before we left, which I thought was a really nice touch! The ahi tuna appetizer was overcooked in my opinion with just a small raw part in the center. I ordered the $45 bone in ribeye and I thought it had excellent flavor. There was a lot of marbling on it so that might put off some people, but that's my favorite part. A good portion of the steak weight was bone, though, so be aware of that. I ordered it medium rare and it was, but it was on the edge of being medium. I didn't care for the flavor of the mashed potatoes, the sugar snap peas seemed a bit undercooked, and I loved their creamed corn. If you want a salad, with your meal, it's $10 extra. The sauce on the bread pudding was good but I felt the bread itself was a little crusty/chewy on the top, as in it was hard to cut it with my spoon. Overall, I like the atmosphere and my steak tasted very good. read more

Impressive steakhouse! Luckily, I was out for business so I got spoiled with fantastic wine (some great bottles of New Zealand Pinots), 20 year old port and of course - a big ole ribeye! It was all delicious and the chocolate ganache cake really made the meal a perfect ending. The service was top notch...but I'm guessing it helped that we didn't hold back on ordering. Dark and romantic atmosphere. Definitely worth checking out for a special occasion. read more

Last time I visited San Francisco my Dad asked me where I'd like to go for a special meal. I told him that I'd just really like to have a great steak. I maybe eat steak once, twice a year at most. We went to Morton's Steakhouse and despite the astronomical prices, it was a let-down. Fast forward to III Forks a few nights ago. That filet had flavor that was just fantastic. I ate small bites to make it last and loved the mashed potatos - which is rarely a dish that excites me much - alone so I could savor their flavor as well. Fantastic, personable (Melissa!) yet very professional service - and speedy, too. The only let down was the 6-layer chocolate cake. The flavor was missing something. Tasted the Grand Marnier flan though and wow! This is a special place and I hope to make there again. read more

III Forks was highly recommended to us when asked about good place to eat in Austin. The food was great, and the wine selection was solid. Even their vegetarian plate is really good. The halibut I had was fantastic. We had a SIMI wine from Alexander Valley that went well with the food. read more

This is going to be short but sweet. This place is fabulous. Of course the steak was amazing but I was unprepared for how fantastic all the sides were!!! Most of the time, I'm not a fan of creamed corn or snap peas but III Forks made them unbelievable. Our server knew exactly what he was talking about and made the experience even better. Too bad the quality of the restaurant is reflected in the price, otherwise we would go all the time. Also, if you enjoy wine... they have wine out the wazoo(over 500 bottles) and your server knows exactly how to help you with any alcohol choice you need read more

The service and the food here was incredible! We splurged on the Wagyu beef and it was the best steak I have ever had in my life! The presentation was amazing and that it was served on a wooden plank with a small pile of salt that was lightly on fire. The dessert (something with chocolate and peanut butter) was amazing as well. We are going back again next month for another family member's birthday! read more

For a special night out -- go somewhere else. I went on a Tuesday, inviting the person who hired me 40 years ago for a special dinner. He's British, so lamb was essential. He was pleased with his chops, though he did say they were no better than those at Brio. Probably the worst aspect of hte evening was being seated at the bar. With a corporate party of 20 odd people. I made reservations long in advance, why seat me in a bar so loud we couldn't talk? I had the veg ravioli, which had a a strong taste of (salty) tomato sauce and nothing else. We shared an order of six cheese potato, which essentially cheese melted over a potato that had been baked some time ago, and that they hoped had been warmed when they melted the cheese under the broiler. It hadn't. I thought the servers were polite & very attentive. Other than that very poor choice of where to seat us. Flemings Domain is far batter. read more

This place is amazing, and the waiter John is the best waiter I've had in a while! The steaks are great, the ambience is not stuffy, and the experience was great! A must try in Austin! I have had many great steaks in nyc, and this stacks up with the best of the best. I have never been to Austin before but this experience was so good, and I will definitely be back. John made the dinner amazing with his great knowledge of both the food and the wine! read more

Wanted a nice steak to celebrate my wife's birthday this week. She went with the flat iron which is her favorite cut, I went with the fillet but at the last time I opted for the off the menu fillet "on the bone" cut. The fillet was cooked perfectly and seasoned perfet with a nice sublte salt & pepper charring. The creamed corn was amazingly fresh as were the snow peas. We also had the delicious III Forks salad with apple and bleu cheese. Of course we splurged for dessert bread pudding with ice cream (yum!) and a creme brulee which had a bitter after taste but was still good. We started out with great service, our server became busy with another table towards the end of our meal but reappeared just when we needed a refill. My only regret was not asking for the price of the bone in fillet ($65) which was much higher than I was expecting since the 12 oz was (only) $45. Lesson learned, stick to the menu or don't be shy about asking for the price. read more

Wish I could give 4.5 stars. (Again; c'mon Yelp; step ya game up!) Went for a work function so this may be biased. Decor is new upscale for lack of a better descriptor; mood lighting, glossy marble, dark(but not too dark) woods, towels in the bathroom. As others have mentioned the clientele is well dressed. Definitely not Austin casual. If you go for a company dinner in a private area you can get by with less dressy. All the folks I saw, and on a Thurs night, were in suits and cocktail dresses. Very good service; attentive, polite, precise. (Although I questioned whether one of our waiters was Sacha Baron Cohen in disguise more than once). Had the wedge and I don't like stinky strong cheeses but I ate it like it was the last salad I would ever have. The steak was outstanding. Sides were very nice too. The creamed corn is fantastic. Possibly the best cheesecake I've ever had. I'll take the fam on my dime for fancy dinner. read more

I've heard about this place for a while, but oh my - word of mouth doesn't do it justice!! Knowing we'd be stuffing ourselves, we were quite deliberate in eating smaller meals and working out in preparation for this dinner. Sadly, two days of it just wasn't enough for what we were going to experience The team came here recently as a large group and we were treated with great service. Along with some amazing wine, here's what we ordered: Cobb salad - Their housemade blue cheese dressing truly up-ed the ante on their take on the cobb salad. The subtle hint of ingenuity of placing large, crunchy tomato slices next to the wedge was also a great touch Table bread - so warm, so soft, so delicious! Fish Special: Lobster Tail & Crab meat - As one of the lower price seafood dishes on the menu, this was the perfect order for myself! the lobster tail was cooked perfectly, with a light butter sauce. The chunks of crab meat was a great addition, and had an interesting mix of a horseradish type of thick sauce which was a great surprise Chocolate cake - 6 layer chocolate cake with a scoop of vanilla bean ice cream on the side. I'm sure you can just imagine how decadent and awesome this dessert was for three girls :) Sides: Steamed asparagus, bell peppers and broccolini (GREAT!), corn puree (oddly delicious) Others ordered: Scallops (large portions of fairly large scallops! It also was in a very flavorful sauce, which was unexpectedly wonderful since scallops definitely don't take on flavors from sauces very well). Steak (well, everyone was more than pleased) I hope we definitely end up going back there again because that was just an amazing dinner, great service and in lively area. read more

Had an awesome first experience here. From the lady who assisted with our reservations, to the staff and food. New favorite.

You have to know making a reservation at a place like III Forks, that it is going to have a small menu of very pricy things. That being said, it probably had the BEST small menu of things worth their price that I have seen in my time here in Austin. My fiance and I went for my birthday dinner and as soon as we were seated, our friendly, fun waiter came over to wish me happy birthday. The Sommelier then came by to give some wine recommendations from their extensive list. Kyle and I both chose reds (his a Cab, mine a Merlot) and both were delicious. For appetizers we tried the lobster bisque (Kyle's favorite from a previous visit to the restaurant with his parents) and the seafood platter (bacon wrapped scallops, crab cakes, etc). I have to say, the lobster bisque was INCREDIBLE! Kyle also really enjoyed the crab cakes from the seafood sampler. For the main course, Kyle got the filet mignon and I got the strip pepper steak. Both came in a reasonable amount of time, and were served with mashed potatoes, creamed corn, and snap peas. Kyle and I both thought the steaks were a little over-seasoned but still tremendously delicious. I loved the southern feel to the place, with the wait staff coming by to offer slices of tomato or to pour their special gravy on the mashed potatoes. I inhaled all of the vegetables on my plate (all fantastically fresh and yummy) and Kyle did me the favor of finishing off my steak when I couldn't do it. At the end of the meal, we received a special dessert cocktail from the Sommelier on behalf of my birthday, followed by the staff taking a picture of us and handing it to us with the check. In the end, the ambience was wonderful (classy and understated), the wait staff was impeccable, and the food was absolutely fantastic! read more

Steaks are prime and as good as they come. This place ranks with the best--Flemings, Ruth's Chris, Nick & Sam's, del Frisco's Double Eagle. Probably a slight notch above Eddie V's and Perry's. Yes, it's expensive, but worth it. If you like steak, this place won't disappoint. read more

Filet - ordered medium rare and steak was a little more done then I would have liked. Overall it was good, but not great. Mashed potatoes - Wow! They come as part of your meal. I'm not usually a big fan, but these were worth writing about! Great! Perfect flavor & texture! Savvy Vodka - Steer clear of this! Not something that I can say anything positive about. read more

One of the best dining experiences that I've had in Austin. We were a party of 8 and they were able to squeeze us in at the last minute. We were large enough that we got a private room, which was excellent. The waitstaff was incredibly on point and friendly. We made a couple of joke requests (a beer in a koozie for one of our party) and were shocked when, not 5 minutes later, a beer showed up in a koozie. The food was outstanding, nearly everyone ordered steak and I don't think there was a plate with food on it at the end. We had the sommelier come in and talk wine, and set us up with 4 excellent bottles. The food is not cheap, but if you're looking for an excellent meal with amazing service and a great environment, I would highly recommend III Forks. read more

Legitimate steakhouse in downtown Austin! Writing this review from memory, but I recall the decor was very classy. A bit upscale, felt like a gentleman's' club of some sort.
