Yum!! Thats all I have to say about this place. It was a great steak house...the steaks literally melt in your mouth. I had the filet mignon...and it was absolutely delicious! Their wine selection is very expansive, and they have wines for every price point and region that you want. The waiter was pretty knowledgeable about the menu, and had great wine pairing suggestions. I did not give the fifth star because their appetizers were so-so. Don't get me wrong, they weren't bad...but, for the prices that you pay, I would have expected a little better. yeah. We tried the happy hour so can't comment on the full meals, but sitting at the bar was nice and comfortable, a good cool, dark, fancy steakhouse atmosphere. The bartender was very nice and we got a good variety of food: -Lobster mac and cheese: sadly, the most disappointing dish. It was simply far too lemon-flavored. It overpowered everything else. This could have been a fluke. -Gouda grilled cheese slider: this was decent, not much to say about it -Lobster bisque: very large and very good. -Short rib slider: great short ribs, highly recommended, which got us very excited for... -Short rib entree: MMMmmm... so good! Fantastic experience there recently. I eat a lot of steaks while traveling on business, but III Forks was quite special. Excellent cut of meat (I had the bone in RibEye), and it was perfectly cooked and served extremely fast off the grill. The sides were exceptional as well. We shared sautéd spinach, asparagus, and a 3 cheese potatoes. Waitstaff was knowledgeable and attentive, but not bothersome. I ended up in Austin on an overnight and with the amount of restaurants in the downtown area I was trying to figure out what to choose. Texas is all about the beef so it was a choice between barbecue or steak and I opted for the latter. The downtown area has a lot of great steakhouses but I kept reading reviews on multiple websites about III Forks. The restaurant itself was packed and since I was on a date with myself I chose to sit at the bar. After pondering through the various choices, I settled for the 22oz bone-in ribeye and a side of fries. The steak was cooked medium rare to perfection and the fries were phenomenal so I know that I'm going back. Andrew (the server at the bar) and his colleagues were awesome and very hospitable so thank you guys! FYI there is an additional charge for the fries so my tab came to $87 for the steak and fries together but it was worth EVERY penny. The very best meal I've ever had in my entire life!!! No question. No doubt. Starting with the bread which was warm, soft, light and yummy. Followed by a Love Potion (seasonal) that was sweet but did the trick like no other. They have dim lighting, romantic music, lovely place settings and the very best steak in the world. Wow! We loved III Forks. By far exceeded expectations. Service was impeccable. Food was phenomenal. Ordered the III Forks salad-the dressing was one of the best vinaigrettes I've ever had. Light and perfectly complimentary to the crisp Granny Smith apples, heaping scoop of blue cheese crumbles, and chopped pecans. Portion size was generous but not too much before dinner. Also really enjoyed the sweet warm rolls served. My 6 oz filet was perfectly seasoned and cooked with a bit of char around the edges. I asked for a side of hollandaise and it was not necessary, but I enjoyed it nonetheless. Have never been to a restaurant that dishes the sides out to each person, but actually a pretty neat concept that ensures everyone gets some without awkwardly having to pass them around. This is especially nice for business dinners where diners are not necessarily too familiar with one another. Spinach was fine. We honestly just ordered it because we needed a green side! 6 cheese potatoes were decadent. I enjoyed them more than the lobster Mac n cheese. My favorite was probably the mushrooms though. Yum! For dessert we stuck with ice cream once we heard they carried Amy's. I liked the cinnamon flavor much more than Mexican vanilla. The cheesecake and bread pudding servings were well received as well. Yes, 3 Forks did live up to its hype ! I have walked by this place so many times before in downtown Austin. I am glad I finally visited. Had my last meal of 2010 (NYE) there. Food was fantastic. They even had a jazz band playing mellow music for the patrons. The place has the feel of a traditional steak house- the antler chandeliers by the bar were a nice touch to the decor I thought. I ordered the peppered New York Strip cooked medium- it was excellent. My date had the prime rib, cooked well done, and they cooked it right with no pink left inside, and was still juicy and velvety smooth - nice. Tried the Zolo Malbec from Argentina- great balanced red wine to go with the meal. I suggest ordering a side of the mushrooms with any steak dish- they are yummy. Wait staff was attentive. I like their branded dinner plates. It was a great experience, I would go back and would recommend to others. read more

That said the house salad is one of the best you can find anywhere, and the filet's are always cooked to perfection. Wine choices on the iPad was a very nice touch. Tried III Forks on our last date night. TIP* Signed up for their email membership before hand (one email every other week of so) and earned ourselves a free beef croquettes appetizer, normally $11. Worth it. Free food is always worth it ;) Especially good-tasting free food. The place was empty on a Wednesday night at 6pm, so the staff was very attentive. I can't say if they're always like this, but our experience and waitress was wonderful. It's not overly romantic setting-- if you wanted to take your family out for a nice dinner, this would be the place. Although, if they don't have a flashlight and reading glasses for the menu, I'm not sure they'll be able to see it in the dim lighting. But it's not particularly a place for a friends or drinking gathering. The wine list was good-- ranging from affordable to 'holy crap, is that a $1500 wine bottle?'. The menu is my favorite part. Many choices-- and the best part is you don't have to order separate sides like you do at a lot of fancier places. You can (by all means, we ordered another side of brussel sprouts as they were to die for!), but the meal comes with plenty of food. That's always one of my pet peeves-- having to spend money on sides that should come with my plate. III Forks takes care of that and for that reason they will surely end up on our list for another weekday date night. read more

Our server Eric could not have been better. He is the perfect employee-nice, knowledgeable, excited about food with wonderful descriptions of the menu items. The service was pretty bad. The steak was good, but not as good as Perry's or Ruth's Chris. The waiter told us to wait when trying to get attention at least 3 or 4 times. Even the waiter serving water did this. It seems to be accepted here. Couldn't get a menu to order a drink after asking twice. The waiter had the nerve to tell us we were killing him when asking about menu items. The nearby table told is they had asked for the waiter 6 times. Upon exiting the restaurant the valet accepted the tip and walked away without opening the door for my date, and this after hearing another valet argue with the other and say that he didn't care because he didn't want to be here anyway. A lot of money for worse service than I would expect at a fast food establishment. Won't be back. Too many great options with staff that appreciates the business. read more

Tips:::I highly recommend the Filet with a little bit of crushed fresh garlic Pittsburgh style but I prefer MR and hubby likes black and blue-eeks. I love that I Don't have to pay extra a la cart for side dishes! It comes with mashed potatoes and I like my gravy on the side, sugar snap pease-al dente, delicious, Ripe sliced tomatoes with spring onions And creamed corn-however since I am lactose intolerant they are always accommodating to shuck it, sauté, with salt and pepper!! We all have been there. You want something to work, you are rooting for it to work.....but unfortunately it falls short. Austin is missing a 5-star steakhouse. Gap in an otherwise a strong city for food. I think of the national competition for a great steak as Le Moo, Sparks, Boa, St. Elmos, Prime and Beyond, Peter Luger, Chicago Cut, etc. Competition is not chains like Bob's, locals like Vince Young, Eddie V's., etc. If that is your benchmark, you will be fine with III Forks. If your bar is higher, you will be disappointed. Personally, you could blindfold me for III Forks, Eddie V's, Vince Young, Bob's, etc. and I could not tell a discernable difference. You are paying $60-$150 for the same cut of beef, same wine list, and same sides. When you look up 'medium' in the dictionary, there is a picture of III Forks. If you want good food and don't care about price, you will be fine. If you want great food and care about price, you will be disappointed. Sides were also average. Critics will call them salty, expensive, and inconsistent. Supporters will call them delicious. Dessert was solid. Staff was attentive but uninformed. Biggest miss is just the fundamentals of getting temperature right. Bone-in ribeye was ordered medium-rare + and came out medium-well. Bone-in filet for my wife was ordered medium-well and came out medium rare. Others at table (there were 10) were 'so-so' on their cuts of beef. Not bad enough to send back but not good enough to recommend. Seafood was same (average but don't take that as bad, just disappointing given price/value). Austin is an amazing city for food and beverage. Someone will eventually figure-out how to match local 5-star steaks to the other amazing types of food. III Forks is a wannabe great place. Don't get me wrong...It is a good and expensive place...but not great place. If you have expectations of a top 5-star steakhouse....you will be disappointed. Go experience many of the other great/high-end places to eat in town. But if you really want a decent steak in town and are price inelastic, it is serviceable and indistinguishable from the other high-end choices. read more

Great location in downtown within walking distance from the JW Marriott. The hostess was friendly and attentive, brought us to our party waiting. Once seated our waiter (Denis) went through the menu in detail and gave us his personal suggestions. We then moved into the appetizers which were oysters, crab legs and my favorite...the shrimp cocktail! The house salad followed and wasn't anything special. But the warm bread and salted butter were melt in your mouth good. Then dinner came and that's when the food comma began. My friend had an 18oz ribeye that was served with flaming salt and a lobster tail served with tables side hot melted butter. I however had the 6oz petite filet that was served with their famous butter. The sides were cooked spinach, mac n cheese, sautéed mushrooms and other random sides. All of them were underwhelming and not impressive. Dessert was the chocolate cake which couldn't have been more moist and decadent and the butter pecan cake with coconut was heaven. Remarkable experience, the place was pretty busy for a Monday I am staying at a nearby marriott and they told me to come here for a great steak. Started with scallops topped with a bacon jam and a bit of radish, it was very tasty. Then moved on to lobster bisque, creamy, rich and a bunch oo lobster, very good. Service was top notch, our server was very knowledgeable on the menu and other random trivia that kept us entertained. I think this is a great option for any night you want a high quality dining experience, but a truly exceptional choice for larger, group events and festivities. The entire staff is amazingly friendly, accommodating, and attentive. They make a group of 20 plus feel like the restaurant was made for them and time the drink and food service perfectly - even on a Friday or Saturday night. This place is top notch from the reservations agent, to the host, wait staff, live music and of course the star of the show the food We had the meatballs and tuna appetizers amazing. We all had different steaks cooked to different levels again awesome. Both sides lobster Mac and six cheese potatoes were superb. The cheesecake and creme brûlée are not to be missed either.
