There's no doubt in my mind that when I think of the best steaks I've had it's always been in Texas. III Forks definitely holds true. However, I wouldn't put it in my top 5 - definitely top 10, but let me explain. First I'll say that the atmosphere and service are first rate. For a top dining experience the mood is just right. I was on a business dinner but would have no problem bringing a date there. Where it didn't quite live up to my expectations was in the tenderness of the beef. I ordered the fillet mignon and it was perfectly done. Licked by flames on the outside and pink and bloody on the inside. But it just wasn't as tender as I'd hoped for with this cut and for the prices they were charging. I've had fillets for half the price that melt in your mouth - so tender you can cut it with a fork. Since I was expensing the meal I was very happy with the overall experience. I'd be totally willing to go back on my own dime and dine there again. read more

I wish that we could use half stars, I'd give them another half...2 1/2 stars. Our Austin restaurant experience continues to underwhelm us. This is yet another big name, upper end restaurant that simply does not deliver up to its billings. Ok, I know that having moved from Chicago, and frequenting NY, our standards are high, plus with the female portion of this two-some being a chef, the restaurant needs to deliver or we are disappointed....too often The steaks.... ....this is a steakhouse, so we went with their "special talents" and ordered up one NY Strip and one Ribeye. Both were prepared as ordered, and we were appreciative of that. However, the quality of the meat was not up to "prime" as stated on the menu. This was either "choice" or they have a below-average supplier. The NY was on the tough side, and not properly trimmed. The veggies..... .....were under cooked - many people take this as being "fresh" but it is an old chef trick to undercook and give the impression of being fresh - the starch compound gives it all away. Do the vegies right, or just serve them on lettuce. The appetizers.... .....the seafood medley of Shrimp Cocktail, Crabcake St. Francis & Bacon Wrapped Scallop was good, but the serving size for the price, just doesn't have the value....but it was tasty. The wine list.... ...is limited. We struggled to find multiple wines, and then some only came in half bottles. The waiter only suggested bottles that were $100, we eventually settled on a German Riesling. Desert.... ....nope, too many calories are settling around this waist, so we did not go to the desert----you're on your own. Lastly, when will upper end restaurants realize that dark paneling went out in the 70's? This is a fairly new restaurant....definitely post 1990, but there is that old, old dark paneling from my grandfather's ....sigh. And while on this topic, I must admit that animal parts on walls and / or lights is nor especially appetizing. Those could be taken down as well. Our search will continue until we find some good restaurants in town. read more

I took my husband her for his birthday while visiting Austin. This place does not disappoint! We started our meal by splitting the wedge salad, which was very tasting and perfect size to share! I had the 8 oz filet mignon with the Kings butter topping which is a truffle/foie gras but if amazingness!!! I would say this was one of the best steaks I've ever had! My husband had the bone-in ribeye with the blue cheese crumble topping. That too was delicious. The steaks are a la cart just like most restaurants. As a side we split the lobster mac n cheese which was good and rich, but certainly wasn't the star dish of the meal! That was the steak! Our waiter Alan was fantastic and super friendly! He brought us the chocolate ganache 6 layer cake to celebrate my husband's birthday. It was sooooo good!!! He also brought us a dessert cocktail that complimented the cake perfectly! I would certainly recommend this restaurant and would absolutely return on my next trip! read more

The place looks very formal but the people were really cool. We had dinner after we have visited Barton Springs Pool and we had no idea where we were going to get dressed appropriate. They were really polite. The food was delicious and i loved the sides (mushrooms+ mashed potatoes). My steak was great too (NY strip). read more

ASK FOR YOUR WAITER TO BE JOHN!! We decided to eat here for dinner because our hotel was just two blocks away. Made a reservation for 7:30PM, got there and we were seated right away. John came over with the most amazing attitude and recommended appetizers. Once those came out they were AMAZING! Chicken fried lobster and crab cakes. Not the mention the BEST challah bread ever. Our entrees were delicious and so were the drinks & dessert! Throughout our meal we also had several different people approach us to make sure everything was great. Everyone was very kind. I cannot rave enough about how excellent the food and service was throughout our whole meal. read more

Amazing! We had a reservation for a birthday but they ran late getting us our table. To make up for it they gave the birthday girl a free drink. Kirtis was very attentive and gave excellent service. The salmon was some of the best I've ever had. Worth a splurge if you want to treat yourself. read more

I can not say enough good things about my experience here. We loved it so much that we rented out the private room for some of my husband's workers. Love love love it here. And the drinks are to die for. read more

Tender, melt in your mouth, delicious, cooked perfectly steak. This is my impression of the food at III Forks. I had the small filet mignon which comes with mashed potatoes, snap peas, and creamed corn. We split a lobster tail for the 4 of us at the table.... yum. I was with my fiance and his parents and they sat us in the bar. I have to say that I was disappointed with the atmosphere because we wanted a quiet meal. I wouldn't have minded so much if we were with friends, but it's hard to sit near the band and talk to the parents. I'll knock off a half point for that. Try this restaurant. read more

After seeing advertisements and passing III Forks multiple times, we finally decided to splurge and try it for our anniversary dinner. So glad that we did! Full disclosure, this was by no means a cheap or inexpensive meal. My husband and I split a seafood appetizer of scallops, shrimp and crabcakes. The crabcakes were literally the best I have ever had in my life. Deliciously seasoned, super fresh crab meat, and structurally sound so that it did not fall apart when the fork pressed down against it. The scallops and shrimp were also delicious, but I was partial to the crabcake. Warm bread was also complimentary, which is always a favorite. For entrees, I chose the seabass, while hubby went with the filet mignon. Both were truly delicious. The seabass was fresh, without the slightest hint of fishy-ness, and the filet was cooked to perfection. These truly lived up to their pricetag. The service was the best I have seen in Austin in the two years I have been here. Our waiter was attentive, but not overly so, giving us space to enjoy our meal, but never letting any of our glasses sink below half full or allowing a finished plate sit for longer than a minute or so. The rest of the staff there was equally friendly, and would congratulate us on our anniversary when passing by our table, a nice touch that made the evening even more special. When we had to leave before dessert (as we had a show to attend) our waiter provided us a card granting us a complimentary dessert for our anniversary. A lovely touch, which we no doubt returned for after our show. :) For both food and service, III Forks is truly hard to beat. It will cost you a pretty penny, but for a special occasion, this is a wonderful place to go in Austin. Highly recommend! read more

Yay for Austin Restaurant Week! Man, I love this town. So, my beau and I went to III Forks a couple of days ago, and the experience was, for lack of a better word, pleasant. Not mind-blowing, not OMG WE HAVE TO EAT HERE AGAIN ASAP, but pleasant. I mean, it's III Forks - the kind of place you take business clients when they're in town, or your parents for their anniversary. From the three course Austin Restaurant Week menu, I ordered the III Forks salad, the bacon-wrapped filet, and the honey vanilla cheesecake. The salad was...well, a salad. Greens, some pecans, and a sweet/tangy dressing. The filet was pretty excellent. Cooked just how I like it, and you really can't go wrong when you wrap meat in more meat. You really can't. The cheesecake was light and fluffy and just the right portion - some people might like a denser cheesecake, but I thought this one was nice. My beau had the lamb chops, and his only comment was that they were a little too "peppery." He ate all of them and didn't offer me a bite, so I assume he liked them anyway. He did offer me a bite of his chocolate cake, which was rich and almost as good as my cheesecake. Service was unobtrusive and, yep, pleasant. I don't know if I'd splurge again for III Forks, simply because there are so many other restaurants in Austin to try, but we had a lovely time. read more

Loved it.. Being from NYC it is hard to find really good steak houses down here in Austin... I liked the fact that people were dressed up in this dressed down town... Felt like back home... The Sommelier was excellent... Highly recommend any of their delish wines.... That being said, I found their steaks to be a bit bland, while it did come with all of the sides, which is nice and usually an add on at most steak houses, the steak came with no sauce... Dont get me wrong, I love to savor the flavors of a delish steak, but it is the flavors of the sauces that i think seal the deal... This would have been a 5 star for me if i wernt for that.. read more

I've been to III Forks several times over the last year. I have always been happy with the food (mmmmmm...filet). Once I had a too-snooty waiter, but other than that, I've found the service to be good. Prices are on the steep side, but on par with other higher end steak houses (ie Ruth's Chris, Flemming's). Speaking of the food...the bread they bring to the table - I think it's just French bread - is REALLY good. And they are not shy about bringing out another loaf so enjoy. As far as salads/appetizers: I really like the III Forks salad. I tried their crab cakes once (which they claim they are "known" for) - I wasn't very impressed but I'm not much of a crab cake person either. The nice thing about III Forks is that some sides come with your pricey cut of meat! Yay! You can get some pea pods - which are sometimes on the cold-side but still tasty, tomatoes and spring onions, real mashed potatoes (with the skins!) with BROWN gravy!! (YAY!!), and the most awesome creamed corn. I didn't think I liked cream corn, but I really like theirs. Can't forget the meat! I'm a filet girl, so I've always gotten the filet and been happy with it. I know I've tried at least one of their desserts but I don't really remember anything about it so it couldn't have been that great. One other thing about the inside of the restaurant - there are lots of little dining areas - which is nice as opposed to one big dining room - but each of these areas can be quite different. Some are quite dark. There are a lot of booths. I sat at one table which was near the outside door to the bar which I DO NOT recommend. I have always found the service (except for one waiter who I hope is the exception) to be quiet pleasant and good. I can't say III Forks is my favorite place for a steak, I am certainly happy to dine there. read more

Hands down, III Forks has THE best steak in Austin. I've tried most other steak houses (Sullivan's, Austin Land and Cattle, and Ruth Chris, to name a few), and I don't even like to waste my money now that they opened a III Forks in Austin. I lived in Dallas a few years back and have always raved about the III Forks there. On top of great food, it's a better value than most other places. Along with your steak comes all the sides...you don't have to order them separately. Update on 11/26/07: they have amazing lamb too! And service the last three times I've gone has been excellent. read more

Ladies and Gentlemen, we have a winner! 3Forks bone in filet is far and away the best steak I have ever had the pleasure of eating. A few months ago, I was introduced to the restaurant by way of a business dinner. That was the night I fell in love... with my idea of heaven in the form of a steak, bone in filet, oscar style. WOW!!! I don't mind telling you that I started to tear up as I neared the end of the end of that 12oz hunk of meat, because I thought for sure, I would never have a steak that good ever again. I am so happy to report that I was wrong! I returned to 3Forks for Valentines dinner and ordered the exact same combination of items from my first visit. My expectations were extremely high going in based on my previous meal and they were met 100%. There is something to be said for consistent excellence, its called 5 HUGE SHINING STARS!!! read more

While everything was good, I only gave this place 3 stars because I feel like there are better places for the money. I had one of the fish plates and two of the people with me had steaks. If you want great fish, go to Eddie V's. If you want great steak, try Steiner Ranch. Overall, there was nothing wrong with anything. The food was good and the wait staff was very nice. Oh! They do not have Wifi! I even called before I went there and they said "Yes, we sure do have Wifi." Then I get there and come to find out, they didn't know what they were talking about. Very annoying. read more

You can cut your steak with a finger, Brent was our sever, I think that was his name. He was from Dallas. Very good job. Manager came to our table to make sure everything was great, and it was. When we left hostess and same manager said good bye. Service food cannot beat! read more

Read some of the reviews before we went... One person complained how expensive it was, well yes it could be. But worth every penny! I have to say that it was the best steak that I have ever eaten at any restaurant! And the cream corn off the cob was fantastic. My only complaint, was from my husband, that the lighting is very dim. But I solved it pretty quick with the light on my phone! Lol! Oh yes, and the wait staff is GREAT! Sherry was super! GO BRONCOS! read more

My husband and I were in this evening. No special occasion, just date night. We had reservations, so we were seated very quickly. Halee (hope I spelled it correctly) was out server. She was phenomenal. Really, several employees touched our table over the course of our stay. Husband ate ribeye and cheesy potatoes. He was more than pleased. I ate Ahi appetizer, bisque, and the scallop entrée. All courses were delicious and well prepared. Omg. Fried Brussels sprouts. Yum! Finished with bread pudding and chocolate mousse. (We don't share well) Manager checked on us a few times. Very personable. He even shook our hands on the way out. Very genuine. All in all we will be back very soon. We are kind of mad that it took us so long to come try it out. We are big fans of Flemming's, Eddie Vs, and Roaring Fork. This is right up there and we are very pleased. Halee, we will be asking for you next time. read more

I took my parents here for their 50th anniversary. This is the place to go to for that kind of occasion. Service was great, food was excellent, live jazz in the bar, price actually wasn't that extravagant, even with a $100 bottle of wine. Best of all, when I made the reservation I mentioned this was for my parents' special day, and they had "Happy 50th" printed out at the top of the menus for our table. Nice touch. The house-made irish cream is delicious; we were gifted a round with dessert. read more

So, I got married about two weeks ago and the day after our nuptials I took my new bride to her favorite restaurant, III Forks. She and her family rave about it. They took me there a year ago and was not too impressed. I figured that it was just an off night. After our meal two weeks ago, it wasn't. She even admitted that it was not as good as it used to be. Don't get me wrong, the ambiance and service was great, it's the food that isn't great and way overpriced. First off, there three forks salad had way too much blue cheese on it for my taste. I couldn't finish it. Next, I ordered a bone-in ribeye. I love the flavor of a bone-in ribeye. However, the bone-in ribeye at III Forks is bland and pretty tasteless. I was very disappointed and, at $46 for the steak, felt ripped off. The saving grace of the meal was the service. The waiter was very attentive and non-intrusive. Once the maitre d found out that we were newlyweds, he got us a complimentary glass of champagne and a nice Irish cream for dessert. That was a great and classy touch. I want to like III Forks, but they will have to get better steaks before I go back. read more

Had out of town visitors from Omaha and wanted to experience a Texas steakhouse with them. Turned out to be our least favorite experience of their visit. Ambience was dark and overstaffed. Our waiter did a fine job, especially since it was only his 3rd day there. The Blue Point oysters were excellent. The fish catch of the day, Red Fish, was good. The Scallops were excellent. The wine recommendation was excellent. But it all fell apart with the dry aged New York Strips. Two had so much gristle they could not be cut with steak knives, one was over cooked and one under cooked. We sent the one with the most gristle back, it really was inedible, they returned a minute later with the same steak cut off the bone in bite size pieces. Really now? They began trying to make things right, and I give them some credit for trying. This was the recommeded place from a local who frequents the steak houses in town and they were packed we left. I'm sure this was an anomaly, but it was bad. read more

I had a work dinner here recently and the food was good (I didn't pay so that always makes everything taste better). The lobster bisque was ok. It could have had more than 3 little pieces of lobster mixed in. The halibut that I ordered was very very good. It was served in a light sauce, perfect amount and flavor. I was drinking a light Chardonnay, which I rarely ever do because I am definitely a red wine gal, but that complimented the halibut fantastically! I would not waste calories on the cheesecake. It had an off taste, almost like pudding from a box. YUCK. read more

Austin Restuarant Week will be the death of me! Round 3= fabulous meal at III Forks! The wedge salad was an amazing mess of lettuce, tomato, bacon and bleu cheese. Totally enough to be a whole meal, but do you think that stopped me from devouring my perfectly cooked filet and somehow finding room in my stomach for some honey vanilla bean cheesecake? Of course not! As I now sit in my food coma, I'm alredy planning my next trip back to enjoy the gret piano player and $5 martini and select wine happy hour. The missing star is for our very bland waiter. He was not very friendly and seemed to be rushing us to leave. He brought our check with our dessert when we were still considering another glass of wine and picked up the check while we were still chatting at the table with drinks left! However, I will not hold it against the restaurant, as the other waiters and bartenders were very nice and helpful. read more

Snooty, yet not. I am not qualified to fully review this place because I'm not a swanky type. (Read: I don't drink wine or appreciate chandeliers. I just eat food.) Ambiance: Intimate lighting. No booths, but tables are far apart, music bar is classy and I knew I should've brought my monocle/top hat. Service: Incredibly attentive. Great smiles, speedy refills, consistent check-ins and superb crumb cleaning dexterity. Bit of a long wait for food, but the free bread starter is a good pacifier. (Also, according to waitress, they import the bread from a nearby bakery. Not made in-house. Still delicious.) Food: Gourmet to the max. You can picture the chef twiddling his mustache in victory after each dish. Visited for restaurant week, so the menu might no longer be applicable. Fresh, crisp salad; Cruise-line quality French Onion Soup; Royal cuts of meat. TL;DR: Wait = As expected. Portion = Yay! Taste = Yay! Price = Boo! Return for more? Unlikely until I level up a few tax brackets. read more

I last came here during Restaurant Week two years ago. It was utterly delicious. The meat is cooked to perfection, with nothing in between you and the flavor. Sides are presented family style (as they should be). Here's a quick tip: sit in the bar and order the hamburger. Amazing! And you don't have to dress up. read more

The best steak & lobster tail I have had in Austin. Our waiter was patient, attentive and very helpful. They have a very extensive wine menu, and have very affordable tasty options! What I actually really liked about this place is that you don't need to order the sides separately! I hate feeling nickle and dimed when I go to steak houses! The sides are whipped potatoes, sugar snap peas, off-the-cob cream corn, ripe tomatoes and spring onions! Everything we ordered was perfectly cooked, well seasoned and delicious! We ordered: Surf & Turf special (Rib Eye 6 oz & Lobster Tail) Chicken Fried Prime Rib USDA Prime New York Strip Prime Rib 16 oz Prime Double-Cut Pork Chop French Dip Sandwich For six people, 2 bottles of wine, with tax and tip the total came to approx $500 - which I think is reasonable! Portions are good, service is excellent, the atmosphere is romantic, and food was savory! On a side note, they no longer allow you to bring your own wine (they used to allow for this and charge a corkage fee). read more

BEST STEAK HOUSE IN TOWN. My husband and I love this place and it never ceases to please. I had family in town and they wanted to enjoy a good steak so we decided to take them here. I was able to secure a reservation for 6 on a Friday evening around 8pm. The steaks were AMAZING. Cooked perfectly...as it should be at a steak house! I had a Bone-in-Ribeye, my husband had the New York Strip, 2 others had Filet Mignon and the other 2 had the Bone-in- Tomahawk at $85 a pop! It was worth every penny. They were all delicious! Along with it we had 2 bottles of the Etude Pinot Noir....phenomenal. It complemented the steaks well :-) No complaints on food but our server was not the most attentive. We've been here many times before and this is the first time where we felt the service was a little lacking. Other than that, everything was great and we will be back for sure. read more

It was my first time at this restaurant. Wanted to take my girlfriend on a nice date night. I heard great things so I figured why not. The entrance is great and when you walk in it has a great ambiance. The welcome staff was good and seated us. The lamb meatballs were good. I wish it could've been more then 3. The salad was good could've used some black pepper. The bread was good I think it should've been brought out before the appetizer though. My steak looked really good but I wouldn't order it again. My girlfriend steak was ok. She liked the lobster Mac and cheese. I on the other hand thought it was very regular. The Mushrooms were left there. Actually........ everything was left there. We didn't take anything home with us. It wasn't as good as Eddie V's, Morton's, Vic and Anthony's, Perry's, Ruth Chris, and Gibson's. It's probably the worst classy restaurant I have been to. With that being said. Go at your own risk. read more

Go to bobs steak and chop house if you want great steak, my ribeye was burnt and dry and tasteless and disappointing fit $66. They forgot to pack the cheesecake I ordered so I can't review that and the lobster Mac and cheese is good but it doesn't have much lobster in it. I won't ever get the steak here again, it was probably the worst I had read more

III Forks is pricey, but so worth it! The bar is dim lit and there is often live music. Love the swanky feel. For appetizers, the beef croustades are excellent, but I would stay away from the crab cakes. They were decent, but I've had much better in town. The beef at this place is where it's at. If they are offering the bone in filet, you need to pay extra and get it. Best steak I've ever had. The chilean sea bass is another great choice. The best part of every entree? Cream corn! To die for. If there's one thing you MUST do at III Forks, it's save room for dessert. Their bread pudding is killer. I eat bread pudding whenever it's on a menu and III Forks has some of the best I've had. read more

The wild success of III Forks is a mystery to me. The food was fine, but not extraordinary, which is what you'd expect from the prices. My filet mignon was totally adequate, which is like saying your blind date has a nice personality. The sides were the most disappointing part of the meal. The Béarnaise sauce was a tad too vinegary and the tarragon was barely noticeable. Our server was nice enough, but he was very slow to take our order. It seemed like he thought that if we were talking, we did not want to be disturbed. While I appreciate the effort to respect our conversation and privacy, this crossed into the territory of neglect. You get much better food and service for the same price at Eddie V's. read more

Fabulous restaurant and service! Melissa Nobles, catering manager, arranged a private table in the bar area for 12 people with our party... last minute for SXSW. Way to go. Thank you! Our waiter was well informed on menu choices, handled our large group with professionalism and was not pushy or constantly in the way... excellent service. I tried some of my girlfriend's filet and I had the sea bass. Both were perfect. Execution by the kitchen was phenomenal. The sugar-snap peas were incredible... a must order. We had great discussions with our guest and a terrific experience with enough energy from the bar scene to keep it lively. read more

Wow- I am left speechless after dining at III Forks. From the appetizers to dessert, everything was superb. I had the filet mignon and it was mouthwatering. I did not want that meal to end. Needless to say the chef knew what he was doing. Our waitress Kelsey was beyond exceptional. I've never had better service in my life. She took care of our large Real Estate group with absolutely no problem. Her bubbly personality brought in an additional light to our room. The way she described the food made me feel full before I even ate... That is how good she is! She is a true poet when it comes to food. I worked closely with Shawn (their event coordinator) and she insured that we got the best private room and it was absolutely beautiful. She made the process easy and fun! I recommend III Forks, well.. For anything. But especially company parties. read more

As a holiday treat me and a couple friends headed out to III Forks for some steaks. I had not been inside the restaurant before and was not very impressed by the décor. It was nice, but not my taste at all. It was not a very inviting warm feeling. The wine list was nice, however the server multiple times tried to persuade us a little to forcefully to get a different bottle. I had the filet steak and it was very tender. It comes with sides, which is not always the case in the finer steak houses, so that was a nice addition. It was pretty pricey, but you did get a decent amount of tasty food for the price. With that being said I would not go back as I have found several other steak houses in town with better atmospheres and less expensive. But overall I have a good memory of my one visit, and don't need another. read more

We had our anniversary dinner at III Forks & it was absolutely fantastic! Our concierge at the Intercontinental Stephen F Austin Hotel, Elena, made reservations for us. My only restaurant requirement was that they have a porterhouse steak, the only steak my husband likes. The Executive Chef, Adrian C., graciously agreed to get it & make it for my husband even though it was not on the menu! We were already impressed before we even walked thru the door! The restaurant's ambiance was warm & romantic, not snobbish. The music was contemporary & not too loud. Our waitress, Rachel, was super great - friendly, professional, knowledgeable about the menu, charismatic, & she checked on us the perfect amount. The food was sooo fabulous! We shared the Crabcake appetizer. I had the Chilean Sea Bass with King's Butter. My husband & I shared the 6 Cheese Potatoes.  His 32oz Porterhouse came out perfectly seasoned &  perfectly cooked. It was the best porterhouse he has ever had! It truly was exceptionally delicious :) Thanks to Rachel, we got to thank the Chef in person; Adrian came out to our table, wished us a Happy Anniversary & graciously accepted our many thanks for the special order & our compliments in preparing the best porterhouse steak Ever!! From start to finish, we were really impressed with the staff & the food. Will definitely come back when we are in Austin again. read more

This is easily one of the top 5 steaks I've ever had. Order the 14 oz bone in ribeye. You won't regret it.

In short, this is the very best dining experience one can have in Austin. Me and my wife were at III Forks in Austin last night celebrating our anniversary. Our server, Megan, was extremely pleasant, professional, fun and knowledgeable. The night wouldn't have been the same without her. The food was perfect - it was one of the best meals we have ever had, and thanks to Megan's recommendations, so was the wine. Everyone who approached our table was terrific - and all deserve the highest compliments. The prices reflect the quality of service, food and attention to detail. On the times that we have visited III Forks, the business has operated like a well-tuned machine. Steaks are sizzling, sides are steaming, and flavors are intentional and very well-crafted. read more
