My wife, Carrie, and I have eaten here 3 times on various occasions, and sent my parents there as a gift for Christmas. First Time: Food/Excellent, Service/Good Second Time: Food/Excellent, Service/Excellent Third Time: Food/Excellent, Service/Great Not sure what this all means to you .. but I find the steaks exceptional, and the service good to great. It's expensive, but I feel like it's worth it. read more

Wonderful evening with my husband. We ordered the beef croustade which was perfectly bite size with tender meat and pleasant cajun mustard. I had the New York strip, medium and done perfectly. My husband had the bone in filet. We shared the lobster mac n cheese-I think if they added more cheese and used elbow macaroni it would be better. We also had the asparagus and six cheese potatoes which were yummy. I highly recommend this steakhouse. Enjoy! read more

My boyfriend and I went for Restaurant Week and we won't be going back. When there are so many delicious steakhouses in town (Perry's, for one), I just can't see wasting another fancy dinner here. We chose III Forks for Restaurant Week because they had lamb on the menu, but the night I went no lamb was offered. They didn't even replace it on the menu with something else, they just only offered three choices. The food was okay, but I didn't feel like we were getting a fabulous deal. My boyfriend's steak was very tiny and my duck was just okay. But the worst part was the service. The waitress treated us like we were cheapos she couldn't be bothered to serve. Even though we started with cocktails and ordered wine. I asked to substitute the creamed corn off the cob for the potatoes on my entree and she curtly replied "No substitutions" and walked away. If she had asked if I wanted to order an extra side, I would have said yes. At the end of dinner, I asked for lemoncello and the waitress said they don't carry it, and walked away once again. But when we were waiting for the valet, I told the bartender they should get some, and he said they have it! Our waitress just didn't know and couldn't be bothered to ask. She didn't offer us any substitute after dinner drink, either, even though I would have loved to try their homemade Irish cream. Overall, not worth the money. Next time we want to have a fancy steak dinner, we'll be going to Perry's. read more

When the best part of your big group steak dinner is the lobster bisque, there's a concern. Came here for a bachelor party, and had the whole back room to ourselves. Two giant tables for two bachelors. No one wanted to sit next to me so I sat at the head of the more empty table. Now I know what a king feels like. Got to ordering drinks, and they prepared their Manhattans very well. Excellent selection of beers, properly made drinks, the libations are not the issue here. The lobster bisque was fantastic. Five stars for their bisque. The actual steak though was disappointing. That's a killer for a steak joint. It wasn't too dry, or over/under cooked, it just lacked the flavor I come to expect from my filet mignon. The service was really top notch. For the price you're paying, you'd expect that, but they really were wonderful. Could have been a five star joint, but in the end I think you're better off spending your money elsewhere is your dropping this kind of cash. read more

Fantastic food and service! Definitely make a reservation in advance. They are able to handle large groups as well.

This is a very mixed review. Things were either really great or really bad. Granted, my parents and I were the first table on a Thursday evening. the bad: their ice smelled terrible and had mold, I'm pretty sure the heath department takes up issues with this. The waitress called it 'odd' and brought us new glasses. The butter also tasted as if it had been in a freezer for weeks, it tasted of frost bite and not remotely like butter. The delicious sounding vanilla cake with pineapple and mandarin oranges sounded great- also something that was in the fridge too long. So long the oranges were fermented. I notified the waitress who said she would take it off the ticket, which she did not. I don't really care, I wasn't after free cake. Now for the upside: the bacon wrapped scallops were to die for. I could eat them all day long. My steak was perfectly cooked and the seasoning was amazing. The steak comes with potatoes, snap peas, tomatoes, and creamed corn. More than a meals worth and even enough for lunch the next day. So... I'm in the middle of the road here. I will go back and try again, but there are some minor mistakes that really bring down the dining experience. I mean really, bad butter and nasty ice? They should be better than that! read more

Had Valentine's dinner here and had a very nice meal. The service upon being seated was very good with a clear explanation of the specials from a knowledgeable waitress. The restaurant itself feels very nice, and well decorated with distinct dining rooms and the room we were seated in was cozy and made for a nice intimate Valentine's day spot. While we munched on the bread, I started with the Lobster bisque which was really enjoyable. It had just a few small chunks of lobster in a moderately rich tomato like base with a bit of fresh lobster stock flavor to it. Very nice. For dinner, I ordered the 12 oz filet medium rare, for dinner, and it was cooked just like I like it. It had a nice but simple crusty and charred salt and peppery crust on it, and was juicy and tender inside with great flavor. The sides were all quite good as well. The snap peas were very crisp and buttery, the creamed corn off the cob was unique with a hint of allspice or nutmeg to them and tasted very fresh, and the mashed potatoes and gravy were nicely made and tasty too. A server also came by with a plate of freshly sliced ripe tomatoes to add to our plates during dinner. We got the cheesecake to share for dessert, and while it was good, it was pretty basic and didn't overly impress me. For a pricier meal out, I was satisfied with everything from the service, restaurant feel, to the food quality, and while it wasn't a mind blowing experience, I didn't feel disappointed at all either and would recommend it for a special occasion. read more

The reviewer that called III Forks "masculine" hit the nail on the head. III Forks isn't a "fancy restaurant" or a "nice place to go" -- it's a steakhouse. You go there for a steak, but you also go there for the ambiance of a steakhouse. The walls in the dining room are adorned with pictures of old white guys that did big things and ate big steaks. III Forks isn't a seductive, high-end dinner destination for someone with romance on the mind -- it's a place to take a completely unapologetic carnivore. As far as price, I think it was about on-par with what you'd expect. You won't leave without spending at least $70 per person. One point I'd disagree with previous posters on is service. I thought the service was excellent. read more

Made a yelp account just to leave this review. I wish I could give zero stars because 1 star is an overstatement. TL;DR: avoid this restaurant, go to Burger King for better service. I came to this restaurant because I wanted to treat my SO for her birthday. I had the absolute worst service I've ever had at any restaurant period. I encountered my waiter a total of three times: initial greeting, taking my order, then taking the check. The food was mediocre: $9 for broccolini that was just steamed and coated in butter, $35 for a salmon fillet that wasn't bad (average quality, I could've made this myself/gotten equal or better quality for 1/3 of the price), $45 fish of the day for a pretty bland fish over risotto, and about $12/glass for both of our wine pairings. I asked the waiter for wine suggestions, and trusted her best judgement because she should have had more experience than me. The wine that she paired with the fish of the day was revolting. I would've complained and asked for a different pairing, but reiterating what I previously mentioned, I only interacted with my waiter 3 times. In hindsight, I should've found a manager to address my concerns, but I digress. The total bill came out to just under $130. I'm honestly so disappointed in the experience, left a bitter taste in my mouth literally and figuratively. read more

This place was absolutely amazing, my friends and i came here for a bachelor party to have a nice sit down dinner and we're absolutely blown away with every passing minute. The service from Pedro was outstanding! Each course we had was fantastic beyond words and that still doesn't do it any justice. To the point that after i took a bite of the fried brussel sprouts all i could do was laugh because they were so phenomenal. Thank you for making this such an amazing experience every time i come to Austin i will come back here and ask for Pedro. This places is such an amazing environment and the food was otherworldly. read more

I wanted to love it. I wanted to really like it. We dined at III Forks on a Friday before the Dr. Lonnie Smith concert at UT. First, the unsettling stench of sewer gas greeted us as we approached the door of the restaurant. Once inside, it seemed that the restaurant was trying to compensate for the outdoor odor by having some kind of fragrance in the lobby. It was overwhelming, and reminiscent of some kind of men's cologne. Not what I want to smell in a restaurant. I want to smell food! We shared a wedge salad (okay -- not the best, not the worst, blah bleu cheese dressing). He ordered a bone-in ribeye with a bleu cheese crown. It arrived sans bleu cheese crown. Not sure what happened there -- we were not charged for the crust. He said the steak was good, but not great. Decent char. I ordered the Pistachio-Crusted Halibut which was, I must say, impeccable. Served over asparagus with a lemon beurre blanc, which could have been a little more emphatic. Dinners at III Forks are served typically with mashed potatoes, snap peas and creamed corn. We did not want potatoes or peas or corn. For some reason, they brought me a dish of corn anyway. I'm a sucker for freshly made creamed corn, so had to taste it (damn the carbs). Now I'm not sure why this would be, but it tasted like dirt. Dirt. I'm not kidding. He tasted it and agreed. At least I wasn't tempted. Drinks were all right. When I inquired about a Manhattan, the waiter said he thought they had some special Manhattans, but then said no, they didn't. We did not see a list of any special cocktails. Bread was warm but not particularly enticing (I've not found better bread than that at Eddie V's.) Good salted butter. He ordered creamed spinach. It could use some work. In short, I'd much prefer to eat at Bob's or Eddie V's or Jeffry's. Oh, and the antler light fixtures were very dusty. Service was pleasant enough but there was the communication issue about the bleu cheese crown. read more

I'd like to share a tale, a tale about customer service. I'm a firm believer that customer service is an overlooked concept in the restaurant industry, so when you find a place that goes above and beyond, I feel obligated to share the love. My story begins with my wife and two children leaving for vacation for 10 days. Daddy (me), stays behind and spends the entire 10 days cleaning and organizing the house from top to bottom, and decides to celebrate all my hard work by going to have a really nice steak dinner before I pick them up at the airport upon their return. Their flight was not scheduled to get in until 11:30pm, so I wanted to eat late in order to not sit around for hours waisting time. I called ahead to confirm what time the kitchen stopped serving, and I was politely told 10pm, but that if it was slow they sometimes close early. Long story short, I showed up at 9pm and there wasn't a single person in the restaurant. It looked bleak! The bartender Shane, was kind enough to listen to my situation, and with a sympathetic heart convinced the kitchen to cook one last steak. I had been thinking about this meal all day, as it was a culmination of the sacrifices I made for my family, and I just wanted to treat myself. Once the meal came, I was in heaven. I expect the food to be fantastic at a place like III Forks, and they did not disappoint... even if the kitchen staff would have rather gone home early, they prepared everything as if it were for a VIP. Shane and the III Forks staff made a very tired dad extremely grateful, and extremely happy. I cannot thank them enough, and I appreciate all their work and dedication to serving their customers. They could have very easily said that the kitchen was closed and that would have been the end of it. But now, I will go back, I will sing the praises of III Forks, and I will never forget the solid they did me. read more

Outstanding! I had a wedge Salad with Blue Cheese, the bone in ribeye with peas, mashed potatoes and creamed corn. It was the best meal I have had in a long time. The service was exceptional. If you want a supurb fine dining experience, this your place! read more

Disappointed. I ordered the prime rib medium-rare and received it medium-well. When I pointed it out to the server and manager, they both just told me that they only make a couple of prime ribs a day and that this was all that was left. They didn't even offer me a different cut of steak or a dessert or anything. I was just supposed accept a medium-well prime rib and deal with it. Prime rib doesn't really taste great unless it's red. The fact that they didn't offer any remedy was really disappointing and that is why I've only given two stars for that experience. read more

We went to III Forks last night and it was filled with highs and lows. The highs were a wonderful waitress named Jessica. Personable, funny, engaging. Even when things got busy, she took care of us well. Waygu steak, excellent. Perfectly cooked. Delicious. Predinner cocktails, outstanding. Care was taken to make the mojito and the martini. Both delicious. Fried lobster appetizer, was solid. Not amazing and the butter on the bottom of the bowl was congealed and not toothsome. But the lobster was very good. The lows were of varying depth. We ordered the marrow and cheek appetizer. They put a ton of sugar on the marrow and caramelized it, not unlike creme brulee. A total waste of marrow. Certainly we would not have ordered it had we known it was like dessert. The beef cheek, on the other hand, was excellent and the brioche was perfectly toasted. Chatted with the sommelier, nice guy. Knows his stuff. We were, however, a little shocked when the wine that he suggested, Wind Gap Soif is made by a process called carbonic maceration, the same method by which Nuevo Beaujolais is made. Basically it is a short cut to make wine drinkable, in a quick way. Interesting, perhaps...but that was it. That said, he took it away immediately.. We ordered a totally different wine, Stag's Leap Artemis, always a winner. Also, there was a large table with one particularly loud guy whose laugh could certainly been heard by the Abbotts, at the Governors Mansion, a short 10 blocks up the street. Shutting him up would have been nice for the entire downtown area. So after all of this verbiage, where are we on III Forks? Good question. We certainly felt taken care of by the staff. Especially Jessica, our wonderful waitress. The appetizers were a mixed bag. Avoid the marrow. So will we be back? Probably not. We didn't leave with the warm glow that one should have after one spends $400 on a meal. read more

Went here with 3 friends to celebrate, well, our friendship =) frankly for such an expensive restaurant I expected top notch service - which apparently is not the case here. our food was quite tasty, the desserts were delish, and the port was divine. And the family portrait in the foyer is really tacky. Especially with the lighting designed in such a way that you can't miss the 4 sets of perfect white teeth. Family pics in a diner are always entertaining, but this just seemed like they were flaunting their money. IMHO read more

I love steak. Mmmmm medium rare juicy steaks. My bill was 110 for a rib eye, mint julep (13.00), kettle one and tonic (10.00), lobster bisque (12.00) and tax/tip. Service was good. Not spectacular. My friends reportedly had great experience with their meals. Mine not so much. - Lobster bisque has very fine portions of lobster. I prefer Eddie v's. I give eddie v's a 4.5/5. i give this a 3/5. - 13.00 for a mint julep. I'd rather go to haddington's for cocktails. - Ribeye was a complete disappointment. I understand ribeyes should have some fat for the flavoring. I believe the steak was 16 oz. However, my cut was greater than 1/3 pure fat. That combined with the bone and ~ 1/2 the steak was not edible. I requested "medium rare" but it appeared to be "medium." If my meal was $60, it would get more stars. For $110, no way. If you are looking for another steakhouse, I'd go somewhere else. read more

Service was good, but food was not... We ordered the $50 filet mignon and the $75 special bone in filet, both medium. The steaks had to be re-fired THREE times because they kept coming out raw in the middle. After the second re-fire, we had to request new steaks, because the outside was charred and the inside raw still - and for $125 of meat, who wants thrice baked steak? The side dishes were tasty, and nice that they were included, but it felt a little like a McD's happy meal ... ice cream scoop of mashed potatoes, trough of creamed corn, and a quick serving of snap peas. Don't expect fine dining sides. Overall I'd say it's overpriced and really not that good. I mean, what steak place can't do a medium cook?? The bread pudding is their signature dessert, and it's good - but, keeps en-theme with fast food - it seriously tastes (and even somewhat resembles) a Cinnabon with ice cream on top. It should come with a warning: needs to be shared to avoid diabetic shock. read more

III Forks - Easily the best steak I've ever had. I ordered the filet, medium rare. The kings butter on the steak is to die for. - Steakhouses Near Me - Austin, Texas

Three in our party of four all had steaks and lamb that was not cooked to order. The medium steaks were rare to medium rare and one of the rack of lamb, ordered as medium rare, was very rare as well. Service was okay, but no one really checked in on us to see how the meal was. I ordinarily would have spoken up, but we were headed to a concert. Based on above, this place is overpriced and not so great service. None of the four of us will return. Afterall, if a steakhouse cannot cook any of your meat right, that's a fundamental problem. read more

We decided to check out III Forks for Austin Restaurant Week. The staff was very courteous and friendly. The decor didn't do it for me one way or another, but seemed nice and traditional. I had the wedge salad for the first course, and it was good. It was a lot of food for someone about to eat a steak! Nice crispy lettuce and bacon and lots of yummy blue cheese. The steak was great. Wrapped in bacon, it was perfectly cooked, tender, just absolutely yummy. Here's where I have a couple issues. The sides, broccolini and a baked potato were pretty uninspired. The broccolini was so tough it was almost inedible. The steak was served with a sauce, but the plate was so hot it turned into a highly unappetizing congealed mess. I'm not sure of the logic behind the blistering hot plates, but it didn't work with the sauce. Dessert was a nice but unmemorable slice of cheesecake. Overall I would certainly go back for the steak, but I would probably order it without the sauce. read more

Very nice restaurant. Great ambiance and our server was incredible. The food was mediocre for the price. I ordered a medium rare steak and it definitely came medium. Went for celebratory dinner with husband and another couple. Started with the III Forks and lobster bisque. The lobster bisque was flavorful and I loved the salad dressing on the salad. The other couple loved the bique and thought their wedge salad was typical of what you see in steakhouses. On to entrees...the tenderloin was moist and well-cooked. I asked for the garlic crown and blue cheese topper on the side and was very glad I ordered it that way. Although it was interesting, it would have been WAY too much on top of my steak. Honestly, I was hoping for more of a sauce with the blue cheese and garlic but the sauce is minimal. To be fair, I didn't really ask for details when I ordered it though. The tenderloin was nice, but I think I have realized that I am a ribeye fan at heart, which is what we usually have. My husband ordered the ribeye and both of us found it delicious and cooked perfectly to medium-rare. I would definitely put the ribeye in Austin's top tier of steaks. Another aspect that puts III Forks at the top is that sides are included. The creamed corn is amazing and the potatoes with brown gravy are unique to other steakhouses. They came around with sliced tomatoes and pieces of scallion. Since they weren't cooked, I did not find them appealing. Perhaps they are meant as palate cleansers? Not sure but they didn't add anything to my dining experience. For dessert we tried the strawberry shortcake and chocolate mousse. The shortcake was good and if we hadn't just eaten the one at Lambert's, I'm sure we would have enjoyed it more. But the Lambert's version is just simply better. The chocolate mousse was smooth and tasty, exactly what I expected and what I wanted after a big meal. The sommelier is great! However, we found our waitress a bit lacking for an upscale restaurant. She was nice but a bit lackluster- perhaps she was either not knowledgable about the wine list & menu or she was simply going through the motions that night. Or maybe a little of each. Ex.'s: Would have been helpful to tell us there was a sommelier on staff when we were having trouble deciding on the wine and started asking her questions she couldn't answer. We finally asked to find they did have one there. When we asked a couple of questions about menu items, she gave very minimal information. I guess I just expect more when you are paying top dollar. Overall the experience was positive though and we enjoyed our night out. read more

I can't say enough good things about my experience at III Forks. I took four business associates who were from out of the country to dinner on a Tuesday. Two of us arrived on time, but the others were delayed--I alerted the hostess and she said not to worry, that we could enjoy ourselves at the bar and they would save our table until the rest of the group arrived. Our table by the fireplace was fantastic. A great view of the restaurant and the perfect distance from the piano player to listen to the music yet still be able to carry on a conversation. Once seated, our waiter, Eric, introduced himself and so began some of the best service I've experienced in Austin. Much attention was paid to the details: Eric knew plenty about the wines available and the cuts of meat, made light conversation and even alerted us to notable patrons who were dining that evening at tables near our own. The food was AMAZING. A team of 5 waiters delivered the food to our table and hand-served all of our sides. I ordered the New York pepper steak and I'm still craving it as I write this. Everyone was impressed with their food. A fantastic evening. read more

I really had no idea what I was in store for when dining at III Forks with a couple of friends last month. They suggested the spot and took me, but I was very pleasantly surprised. The food was exceptional, as was the service. We had quite a bit to drink, but I remember joking about how I could cut my filet with the fork. Dessert was some decadent chocolate cake mess that was absolutely amazing. I will be back for sure. Next time, I will pay more attention to all of the details so I can write a nice update. read more

I hosted a party here this weekend for my fiance's 30th birthday and this place definitely catered to all of my requests. I had wanted a private banquet room and worked with Shawn, the manger, to set everything up and I could not have been any more pleased. She was a pleasure to work with and was always so responsive by e-mail and/or phone. On the actual date of the event, the private banquet room looked amazing! I had around 25 guests and the tables were set up perfectly and the service was beyond exceptional. As far as the actual food goes, this was my very first time dining here and I am a true fan. The lobster bisque and shrimp cocktail were delicious and the steak was one of the best steaks I've had in a long time. It was seasoned exactly how I like it and it was a perfect medium-rare. The bill was quite high but it was definitely worth it especially on such a special occasion. All of my guests were very pleased with the food and service and I highly recommend this as a special event or rehearsal dinner venue. read more

Dinner here was fantastic, absolutely fantastic. Being a vegetarian, I have to say I was not really looking forward to going to a steakhouse, but I cannot say enough great things about it. The waitstaff took care of everything. I loved it when it took 4 waiters to deliver the goods and the sides to us--I felt extremely pampered--like I should be. :) The wine guy recommended this merlot from argentina--and it was perfect. The salad and appetizers were delicious. My veggie plate was incredible and huge---there was no way I could have finished it all. My friends ordered the tuna and the filet--again cooked to perfection. Everything was light--usually steak houses pour thick creme sauces on everything, which I hate, but they really let the natural flavors of the food come out. Conclusion: Food-perfect, wine--perfect, service--perfect. read more

III Forks didn't quite live up to my expectations of a high end steak house. Almost, but not quite. I can't even put my finger on what it was exactly. The service was good. The food was good. (Though I have to agree with other reviewers that I was a little disappointed in the fresh tomatoes. I've seen better ones at the grocery store). The wine was great. I highly recommend ordering off the special three course menu. You're not going to break the bank, and the portion sizes are just right. I guess it was just missing the wow factor for me. If I was a business person with an expense account, I would probably see myself bringing clients here. Otherwise, there are so many other high end restaurants in town that I'd pick before thinking twice about III Forks. It was great to try once, but I think once was enough. read more

If you've never participated in Austin Restaurant Week, you should!! It is a poor government employee's chance to eat at all of the fancy restaurants she wishes she could afford all year. Oh wait, that's me. A three course meal was way too much for my bird stomach to handle but I did not give up. To start I had the wedge salad. I know it is weird to gush about a salad but it was ridiculously good. Then the bacon wrapped filet rocked my world and although I needed to be taken out of there in a wheelchair at this point, I stuffed as much cheesecake in my mouth as I could stand. Everything was perfection. The waitstaff was overly helpful and even walked us to the bathroom? These rich people are on to something with this whole "being rich" thing. I need to give it some serious thought. read more

If you're looking for a really good steak in Austin and you want to support local or family owned businesses rather than big chains, you don't have a ton of options. This is one of them. Decor is over the top gentleman's club (and I don't mean the kind with boobies) - lots of dark wood. There is a nice bar area and the dining area is broken up into several areas with ~20 tables each. There is also a large room in the back for private parties. Service, as you would expect at these prices, is fantastic. Apps are around $10 each, fish and seafood dishes are in the $30s, and most steaks are $40 to $50 each. With a bottle of wine, dinner for 3 was around $275 out the door. The food is really good, if not excellent. A variety of appetizer options, some salads, lots of fish and seafood dishes and the usual array of steaks and chops. I had the 10oz filet with the crab cake. I ordered my steak medium rare and it came out nice and cold in the center (this seems to be a recurring problem elsewhere as of late as well), but this was quickly remedied by returning it to the kitchen. Better undercooked than overcooked. I've had better crab cakes - nothing to write home about... The other steaks at our table were properly cooked. Each meal comes with really nice and crisp snap peas, creamed corn, mashed potatoes, and fresh tomatoes/green onions. They have additional side items available if you just must get your asparagus on/etc. Very good wine selection, although not as extensive as Perry's. The usual annoying price markup applies here - oh how I miss Castle Hill. read more
