Representing 2020 in alphabet series, I is for IHOP, just like 2018. 2018 was Alexandria location, and in 2020 is Wheaton. In this alphabet series, 2019 & 2020 for letter I was in Wheaton. That happened a couple of times in DC. It'll happen again for Wheaton for the letter M in 2019 & 2020. It also happens 2 consecutive years for the letter T in Arlington, which will be a while from now when I get to those. I was a close walk to this IHOP when I lived in Wheaton for 3 years 2017-2020. My (& also girlfriend of that time) very first meal of 2020 & the 2020's decade was IHOP! I enjoyed the meal, but I'm not sure that's a good sign for the year because 2020 ended up being terrible. But I did enjoy my omelet or other breakfast item I got. Wait time was a bit long, and there wasn't much of a waiting area as this is a small IHOP like one of the early locations from 1960's. So, we waited in the cold outside, but it thankfully wasn't that cold that January 1st morning. Three weeks earlier in December 2019, that same girlfriend at the time & I went here late that weeknight after a play in DC. To put it mildly, I was pissed at her that night. She made couscous before the play and before I had gotten home from the office as we wouldn't have much time to eat, which sounds nice, but let's just say she doctored the couscous a certain way. I was livid but also hungry, so I ate some of that tainted couscous on the Metro; barely said anything that whole Metro ride to her. We got an overpriced food item at the play, and she wanted the overpriced wine too. Ultimately, coming back from DC around 11:30, she wanted IHOP. I was worn out and could've just eaten a snack at home, but I conceded and went. Food was good. IHOP is a good late night option as they are open 24 hours. So, if that's something you want, that is a selling point for this IHOP or others. I went to this IHOP a couple of other times. Every time food is good and service is at least decent. read more

We had a terrible experience at this IHOP location. First it took a long time just to get seated even though the restaurant wasn't full. The waitress was rude from the start. She took forever to bring us water and kept asking if we were ready to order before we even had a chance to look at the menu. Other employees were nowhere to be seen. They were hiding in the locker room while only two waitresses were working the floor. When the food finally came it was really bad. I don't know what happened to this place but the quality has gone way down. While we were still eating the waitress asked if we wanted to-go containers and then brought us the bill. I stopped by this IHOP on an early Wednesday morning (around 7 am), and I had a pretty pleasant dining experience. Fortunately for me, the restaurant was fairly empty so there weren't any issues with waiting for a table or food. I ordered the basic waffle breakfast combo, and everything was delicious. My server was pretty on point and did not leave me waiting for anything. Also, the restaurant was very clean. Parking seems to be the only minor issue: The parking lot is pretty small. Also, you will have to parallel park alongside a wall or gate, which means either the driver or the passenger(s) will have some difficulty getting out of their vehicle. While I did not have an issue with parking (since I arrived around 7am on a weekday), I could see parking being a nightmare during busy hours. read more

I'm not gonna lie, the parking situation is difficult since the space is so congested, would recommend taking the bus or metro next time to arrive. We were attended right away and the order did not take very long to prepare. It was also congested inside the restaurant, tight space and hard to manuveur. We ordered the spinach and mushroom omelette and a big steak omelette. They were decent and filling, although it is missing s & p which they have provided on your table. I couldn't not write a review. EVERYTHING was bad. Coffees came out quick but then my daughter's choc milk took 15 minutes to come out after obvious attitude from the server as if we were inconveniencing them. Like what? We patiently waited 30 minutes before we finally asked the status of our food. 1 more minute was the answer. Ok fine. Another 20 minutes and still nothing which prompted me to get up, walk to the front and ask. Almost ready. At this point there's like maybe 2 other tables being waited on. Wth is going on!?! Food comes out. Eggs are not cooked right except for mine (they were scrambled). They removed one meal but only because the eggs on the avocado toast were still jiggling at us. came in to pick up an online order and had a really disappointing experience with the staff. The man at the counter (his name was Fernando) was rude and dismissive from the start. When we got home, we realized our order was missing sides -- eggs and hash browns -- even though we were sure they weren't packed. When I called to let him know, he insisted everything was in the bag and said he'd "check the cameras" and call back, but he never did. Mistakes happen, but the attitude and lack of follow-up were unprofessional and unnecessary. I hope management takes this seriously and improves the customer service here. read more

Came tonight and was seated by a gentleman. We sat down and ordered our food and couple minutes go by and our food arrives, the food was delicious but the hospitality we received was terrible our server left work and didn't tell any other server that he still has an active table that needs to be taken care of. So we waited very long so I could refill my drink and we waited more than 30 minutes and no one even approached us to ask if we needed anything. Before we even ordered our food we ordered 3 pancakes for take out, when we stood up to go to the front we were told our server left and we told the current server that he didn't even let us know he was leaving. So we asked if our pancakes we ordered were ready and the lady said yes and she gave us the bag and we noticed that the pancakes were thin and 1 pancake was missing so we went back inside and told them they gave me the extra pancake and I left is such disappointment in how the service here at this ihop is chronically bad I advice not going here. read more

The staff was extremely friendly, especially the manager that was on duty that morning. He greeted me outside and checked on me again once he came inside to make sure my order was on the way. My sirloin tips and eggs unfortunately weren't up to par. The onions were barley cooked, the sirloin tips were overcooked and my hash browns were soggy. I get this meal all the time from various IHOP locations but today just wasn't my day. I still crushed it because I was hangry after working an overnight shift if Uber. I had such a terrible experience, terrible enough to write an email to corporate about it. I placed an order through the app, with the pick up time being for 10:08pm (order placed 9:53pm). I arrive at 10:40 to pick up my order which gives extra time to have my order ready incase they were busy. I really wanted to limit my exposure outdoors due to my girlfriend being pregnant, and wanted to reduce to exposure time to the outside as much as I could. By the time I arrive, my order wasn't ready. They were really busy, so I tried to give at least 10/15 mins of leeway time and tried to be patient. Finally received my order at 11:12pm...mind you the pick up promised time was 10:08pm. When I got home, I checked the meal (steak burger). I asked for no cheese and IHOP sauce. Guess what? It had cheese and IHOP sauce. I normally don't complain but given the long wait time and inaccurate order I was really frustrated. The pattern I see emerging is that if I dine in, the portions seem larger versus delivery where the portions appear smaller. And of course if you receive a piece and a half of bacon at delivery, you are not driving to restaurant or call restaurant. When I checked with to see how much longer before my table was ready man at front said they aren't using the QR code and added my name to the bottom of the list as if I haven't waited long enough. No where does it say not to use QR code. Person dressed in button up shirt and slacks must be the manager was not apologetic at all make me wonder why people take on leadership roles and have such nonchalant attitude towards customers. 44/100 This had to be the first IHOP ever built because it looked ancient.. possibly built during the Mayans era. Ok maybe that was extreme lol I ordered a hot chocolate. When I got it, I wasn't expecting it to be in a soup mug and for it to be spilt over around the outer mug. What's worse was my drink was warm instead of hot. Who likes warm chocolate? I got a breakfast platter with strawberry banana French toast. My bacon was a disappointment. My eggs and hash browns meh. The toast was good. I was too hungry and tired to make a fuss about my bacon but then again the waiter never came back to check on his area as others were looking for him too. Utensils: dirty. You're much safer in bringing your own. The utensils were greasy and had soap powder residue. After a 4th attempt on utensils, I was able to eat. Service is average. Ordered using the app and had to wait an hour to get my food. Got home to find a dry omelet with no filling (they just threw the ingredients on top). My husband had the country fried steak that was so hard it couldn't even be broken in half AND they forgot the gravy. If you sign up for their email perks, you receive a stack of pancakes (styled your choice) FREE on your bday. It brings me back annually, and the decor changes inside per season or holiday. Makes outings with family fun. This time, I ordered for delivery because if you have ever done carryout, it takes forever to the point where you should have just sat down. I already knew from the rating on Yelp! not to expect much from this IHOP. Usually I order from IHOP on Uber Eats only so I don't have to deal with it at all. I live less than 5 minutes away. Should be easy breezy right? WRONG! First off, the parking sucks! The area around IHOP is so congested and packed. It took me a while to find parking and there was zero availability in the small lot IHOP has. When I get inside it is slammed packed. With the excess time I spent looking for parking, I'm probably 20 minutes past the time my order was to be completed. So this should be easy, just pick up and leave. WRONG AGAIN! I get to the waitress and tell them my name. It's not ready. Okay. How long will it be? She's just says the chef is working on it. I meet a young lady in front of me who is also upset with her wait. She said her order was to be ready at 11:30a. It was now noon. As we waited, the wait area got increasingly larger and majority was waiting for online orders. After about another 15 minutes I finally get my food. So the 11 minutes were actually 35 minutes. What's the point of ordering online if you have to wait for food as if you dined in? The only reason for the one star would be for the chef. The food was good and hot. The waitresses were so-so. While some tried to exude customer service, others had attitudes. I've eaten here a few times before, this time I came in alone for brunch and as I arrived I noticed two small two-seat tables in the back empty. There was a 6 people group ahead of me but since their group size was two large for those small two-seat tables, it was only logical for me so I asked the manager, who at the time was standing in for the hostess, if I could sit there since I was alone. She seemed annoyed by me asking, and told me to wait. Her attitude wasn't exactly pleasant, but I thought nothing of it. She sat the 6 people group, and I was next, fair enough. But then two different couples walked into the restaurant and one after the other were immediately seated by her ahead of me exactly where I asked her to be seated. Then after she sat the couples down she walked to the back office and took a few extra minutes inside knowing that I was standing there still waiting. At this point I'm annoyed, wondering if she was doing this on purpose, so I decided to make sure I wasn't seeing things. The hostess this time returned to her station, but the manager was still in the back office. So I asked her if they had a list they kept of people in line to be seated, to make sure the people who came after me and were let in before me were ahead of me on that list. The hostess was nice, and with a smile replied "there is no list". I explained what had happened and told her I suspected the manager might have made me wait longer on purpose, and that if so it was very petty of her. The hostess apologized about it which was nice, then the manager walks out of the office and finally called me to be seated. As I follow her and walked further in and I noticed more than half of the tables in the restaurant were not taken. I asked her why did she do that to me? I was met with a combative attitude, telling I have to wait. I replied I know but she let people in before me knowing she had open tables and they weren't on a list, that she was being petty, rude and unprofessional. Because of what she did, I told her I am not comfortable there anymore and I've decided to leave the establishment and vowing ti never return, and that unfortunately I'd have to leave a negative review due to my bad experience. Any good manager would've immediately apologized for any misunderstanding, and try to make a costumer happy, to the contrary, Ms. Rodriguez was combative and angrily dismissive of my frustration and told me to "go ahead!" "do you want my name too"? After her outburst, I've noticed, the truth is, she really does not care about what costumers think, this is just a job, a paycheck, there is no pride in her work, and it's a really bad look for the IHOP brand overall and because of this I will also contact corporate and make a formal complaint with a recommendation for a change in management in this particular establishment. I've ordered delivery from here a few times. They give you want they want to not what you order. As you know DoorDash and Ubereats isn't cheap. Not times I ordered crepes with a side of Turkey bacon and both times they sent crepes with a side of pork sausage. I don't eat pork. The first time I thought it was a fluke and ordered again and they sent the exact same thing, which lets me know it was purposely done. My boyfriend and I ordered the breakfast sampler to split, and our waiter Dalio brought everything out on two separate plates so that we didn't need to divide it ourselves. Had a great experience at this IHOP. I normally wouldn't review a chain restaurant because I assume if you've tasted the food at one, you have a pretty good idea of what to expect at others. However, this location stands out because of the hardworking staff who seem to actually enjoy their jobs and serving the community. The owner, Will, was super friendly and I admired the way he managed his staff. The positive energy in the restaurant definitely trickles down from the top. This definitely isn't an Italian restaurant, but when you're here it's hard to not feel like family. read more
