My s/o and I are big fans of Mike's American for their consistency in their food and service. We probably come here at least once a month. The actual restaurant feels massive but decorated in a rustic way. I want to give a huge shout out to Alicia. She is such a knowledgeable, approachable, and receptive server. She was on top of refilling drinks, making sure we weren't left alone for too long when we were waiting for our food to come, and just had an overall amazing energy. While we really enjoy all of the servers we've had at Mikes, Alicia takes the cake. If there's any way to provide her with recognition, I would highly vouch for it. Upon entering, the restaurant has a striking appearance with plenty of seating. We had a short wait and were seated upstairs. Since the reservation form asked if we were celebrating anything, I hoped we would be placed in a special area or at least somewhere more intimate. Unfortunately, that was not the case. We were led up a staircase, which offered a cool view of the environment, but ended up at a small table in a small high traffic area. Initially, we thought it was a unique experience because of the restaurant's interior design, but we soon realized it was going to be uncomfortable...because heat rises and we were stuck upstairs with so many other people who seemed just as warm as us. It was excessively hot, and I found myself fanning myself with one of the menus at the table. While our server was probably trying his best, the service left much to be desired. We were eager to leave as soon as we arrived. After ordering and enjoying what we could of our meals, which were quite good, we just wanted to leave. However, our server was absent for a long time, leaving us stuck at the table. I visited Mike's American after coming across it on Resy and was able to get a same-day reservation for two on Easter Sunday. As expected, it was busy, but the restaurant does have a fairly large parking lot which made arrival easier. The setup was interesting. After checking in downstairs, I was given a ticket and directed upstairs for seating. I took the elevator, which offered a clear view of the kitchen below as it ascended... definitely a unique touch. Upstairs, another host staff guided us to our table. The space had a lively feel, roaring with chatter from customers, and I could see parts of the kitchen where food was being prepared over an open flame, which added to the overall atmosphere. For the food, we started with the calamari. It was cooked well and had a nice texture, especially paired with the crispy onion shoestrings, which added a good crunch and flavor. It was served over a lobster sauce, although the lobster flavor wasn't very noticeable. The main issue was the salt level... it was quite heavy! I did enjoy it overall, but I would only recommend it to someone who doesn't have to watch their sodium intake. For entrées, I ordered the steak cooked medium with broccolini. The dish automatically comes with mashed potatoes, and while I was able to substitute the salad for broccolini, there didn't seem to be flexibility with the potatoes. After tasting the mashed potatoes, I wish I was offered to substitute it as it tasted like the brown box we grew up on where you just added water. When the food came out, the steak was closer to medium-well or well done rather than medium, and both the mashed potatoes and broccolini were a bit cold. I chose not to send it back since we waited but it did affect the overall experience. My guest ordered the ribs with fries and coleslaw. The ribs were well-prepared--tender with a clean pull off the bone--and were probably the highlight of the meal. The fries were also very good and came out hot. The coleslaw wasn't as well received, described as having too many of the tougher parts of the cabbage. Overall, the experience had some positives, especially in terms of atmosphere and certain menu items like the ribs and fries. While I did enjoy parts of the meal, it's not somewhere I would personally return to, but it may be worth trying once to form your own opinion. read more

Another solid restaurant in the Great American Restaurant chain. Mike's is located in Springfield. They have their own parking lot but it gets consistently full. You can park at the shipping strip across the street. Menu at Mike's hasn't changed for quite some time but entrees are solid. Daily specials does offer different kinds of fish. Steak comes with salad and are tasty. GAR restaurants prepare the best salmon I ever had. Cooked to your liking and never fishy. There's a nominal charge of $1 for the bread basket but this is well worth it as their Ozzie rolls are amazing. read more

The options are definitely somewhat the same but in different options if that makes any sense. They're still a plethora of different styles of food options to choose from! You can't go wrong with the starter bread as well, give Texas roadhouse a run for its money! The medium , it's fairly expensive, but I think it's pretty good for all that you get! The bad, parking! Parking is very hard to get you're gonna have to do some creative thinking when it comes to parking and a little bit of jaywalking haha! Overall, the space is spacious. Mike's American is one of my favorite spots in the area for a few reasons but tonight missed the mark. One of the reasons is the service is always on point. Our server tonight really didn't care about giving us the experience. She was inattentive and seemed like this was a job she really didn't care about. Second is the food although was still good, it was cold. My baked potato was obviously not a freshly baked one because it was not on top and cold in the middle. Well not really cold but very obvious temperature differences. Anyway, I will not trash the place because in the several times I've been here, this was the one time it was subpar. I came here with some friends for lunch during December 2025 on a weekday. I did not realize how popular they would be. There is plenty of seating within the restaurant (two levels with an elevator and centrally located open staircase), but not enough parking when they are bus. Like some of the other reviews, I definitely recommend parking at the shopping center across the street unless you are feeling lucky. However, there are no immediate crosswalks...so be prepared to run/powerwalk with caution. During the holidays, the place was wonderfully decorated. It can be a bit crowded for really large parties. I definitely recommend making a reservation. The staff was professional and were accommodating for us - they provided extra plates/bowls for some of us who wanted to split an entree. The also took a great photo for us. Service was great overall; however, the timing was a bit off. I would've expected them to serve everyone's entrees at the same time. However, some members of the party had to wait a little longer for their food to be served. Somewhat understandable given how busy they were, but it still fell a little below my expectation. While here, we had to start off with the Ozzie Rolls. The bread and accompanying honey butter was so yummy. Everyone enjoyed what they ordered. My friend and I ended up ordering the Lobster Bisque Soup and either the Drunken Rib Eye or the 5 Star Reserve Rib Eye Steak to share (photos showed only half of the serving). The Lobster Bisque Soup was yummy and hit the spot (especially with how cold it was). There's the saying that the meat speaks for itself...the Rib Eye Steak spoke to me. It just melted in my mouth and I savored every bite. In addition with the portion size, this dish was definitely worth the price. I definitely recommend coming here for a meal. I love this place!!! I've been here no less than 10x and have never had a negative experience. I'm writing about their consistency overall and my latest meal. A place like Mikes is always busy so it's best to make a reservation. I had one for 7pm and we were seated by 7:15. I had: Raspberry lemon drop - 10/10 - no notes Bread basket - 10/10 - this is a must whenever you go to mikes, even if you don't eat bread you must make an allowance when coming here. Calamari - 10/10 - the serving size is always good and the texture of the calamari paired with fried onions and the richness of the sauce. If I believed in a good or bad place, this is how I would know I'm in the good one. Half young chicken - 10/10 - served with mashed potatoes, corn salsa and a brown butter sauce this meal was literally perfect. The cold from the salsa was a great contrast in temperature and texture with the chicken and the mashed potatoes. My only regret is not asking for more butter sauce and salsa to go with my leftovers. Some of my favorites from previous visits: Tex Mex Eggrolls Bacon Cheeseburger Short smoked salmon - the mustard sauce is insane It's always busy inside so it's not a place for quiet conversation BUT if you have some salacious tea it's so loud in here you can get away with it hahaha. Parking is going to be your biggest hurdle here but if you show up after operating hours, the bank next door offers additional parking. read more

My husband and I have been coming here for over 15 years and the food never disappoints. The biggest plus is the service- this is Michelin Star quality service. The wait staff never stops moving. They are using 5 star service techniques when serving dishes, pouring water and clearing dishes. Every member of the staff acknowledges you walking by. My co-workers and I dined here during our stay in the DC area. This restaurant is fantastic for group dining because it is spacious. We dined upstairs on the second floor, which was packed on a Thursday evening. Downstairs was packed, too, so reservations are recommended. They are famous for their Ozzie Rolls, which is fried dough served with whipped butter and poppy seeds. They cost $1 per basket. We were all happy with the service and food. I enjoyed my Cheddar Burger with Sweet Potato French Fries. I had it with a bottle of Corona Beer. Our waiter provided outstanding service for our table of 10, despite the restaurant being so busy. Mike's is definitely the best restaurant in Virginia. I don't think I've had a bad dish yet. The Maryland crab cakes aren't the same quality as what you'll find in Baltimore but it's still pretty good and you won't find true crabs anywhere in Virginia anyways. I've never been to Mike's American, but I know every time I drive by it, the parking lot is packed. I finally was able to try Mike's on Sunday for lunch. While the parking lot was mostly crowded, I was able to get a table for two without any wait. For apps, I tried the Shrimp and Crab Louie, which was one of their daily specials. It was delicious and refreshing, which was especially nice on a hot summer day. I also tried the Ozzie rolls, which is always a hit, but gobbled those up before being able to snap a picture. For my main, I tried the wedge salad, which was flavorful and hearty, while still feeling light enough for a hot day. The bacon is thick and crispy, and adds great texture to the crispy iceberg salad. I subbed out the blue cheese dressing for the buttermilk ranch, which had a hint of bbq sauce. I also got a taste of the filet mignon tip pasta, which is only served during lunch. This pasta usually isn't available after 3pm, so we were glad to have been to order it. The filet tips were nicely grilled and the pasta was creamy and limey. Overall the service was great! The space is also huge. I highly recommend giving Mike's a try. read more

I've been going to Mike's for years. The service is usually great, and the food never disappoints. However, today was a rare disappointment in terms of service--specifically due to the front-of-house manager working upstairs on Friday, June 6th at 8 PM. She was a middle-aged Black woman with glasses and a low bun. We were directed upstairs to our table, but it was a tiny one pushed up against the wall. We couldn't even sit comfortably, so we asked to be moved. The hostess who escorted us informed the manager, who then turned around and gave us the nastiest look--up and down. I had to ask my husband, "Am I tripping, or did she really just do that?" Trying to keep our date night vibes intact, we chose to ignore it. It was clear she was the manager, yet she never acknowledged or engaged with us. We waited patiently for another table to become available. When it finally was, the manager walked over, pointed at us, then pointed in the opposite direction--still without saying a word. She placed the menus down and walked away. In my opinion, her behavior was extremely rude. In all my years dining at Mike's, I've never experienced anything like this. Very unfortunate. read more

Oh how I love Mike's American! My bonus mother and I have frequented this location a few times, are we are just so full and satisfied by the time we leave! We've sat in different places of the restaurant and have no presences as from the top to the bottom of Mike's, you really cannot miss! My curiosity to come to Mike's American was simply due to observations of how packed the parking lot is on a regular basis plus the number of cars driving looking for parking while driving through the already full parking lot. I had to park across the street, and being a younger person, not much an issue. If I was an individual that was later in their years this might be an issue. I wish there would be a way to solve this but the geography is not in its favor. After coming inside the doors, I realized this place is HUGE! Probably a great place to come if you have a group, there were plenty of larger table/group areas to accommodate. And for those that may find stairs an issue, there is a convenient elevator. Service at this location was AWESOME! Great and accurate explanations of the food as well as really good recommendations. The food was delicious, but heed the descriptions. I say this because my brother ordered the Drunken Ribeye with a description of beer marinated ribeye. I am more of a purist and would like to taste the quality of a steak and appreciate the meat for what it is. I tried a piece and the flavor, to me, was overwhelming. I felt like a Wyoming resident having their first bite of an Indian curry. Like slap in your face flavor. Flavor like that I expect on lesser cuts of meat and really surprised to be on a quality piece of meat. It was good, but not something I would order. I had the aged prime rib and got exactly what I ordered and expected. It was a tender really beefy, flavorful delight. By this time, we were both full, and let the server know that. Since this was our first time at Mike's he recommend we not leave without tasting the bread pudding, probably hoping that we would visit again. Server suggested the bread pudding and my first taste, I wanted to cry. Thick but not heavy, caramel-ish, and moist. Note this is not you I can still see framework of the bread that makes up this bread pudding. This is finely pieced bread, baked into a little cake, shaped, into a really great way to end a meal. Was in the area and hungry and stumbled upon Mike's. It was delicious. It really hit the spot. I got the filet and crabcake meal and it came with the most delicious mashed potatoes and let me tell you about that mushroom garnish. I was gobbling that up too, the rolls were delicious, the outside Had delicious fried texture and they were sweet and the butter was so good. My husband got the bacon cheeseburger and I took a bite of that too obviously and that was also delicious. I really liked the sauce on it and the shoestring french fries were fresh and crispy and really good too. The crab cake was good But nothing really to write home about. the flavor of the steak was amazing. Had a beautiful smoky taste really good wish I would've got our servers name, but she was really nice. Overall I would definitely go here again. Lots of dining levels and the almost every table was occupied?? Mike's seems like the hot spot! Friday night we made reservations 5 min before we were arriving and didn't wait long at all. Sat upstairs and this place is huge. The front entrance has a bbq menu, BUT it's NOT for here... It's for bbq place (they own) across the street... I was sad! The bbq looked better than what was on the menu when we sat down. (Next time) Grandson got the ribeye, I got the soup and mashed potatoes and hubby ordered the penne pasta and expresses his gratitude for it. No stouts or porter beers he was meh on that. Thinking nobody would be there we were surprised the place was almost full. Luckily found parking in the main lot.
