    Chocolate tart

I'm sure I've reviewed this special place before but it deserves another. My wife and I go here at least once a year for the restaurant week deal. Whether it's much of a deal or not (which we typically always concern ourselves with) doesn't apply for Cedar Knoll. Not only has this place become tradition for us but a decade earlier my grandparents had their last birthdays here renting out a room for the whole family so it holds a lot of significance and rightfully so - it just has an authentic feel right there on the water with all of its own history. Anyways the food! The bread is good but the butter is great with this hint of sweetness. TBH the I wouldn't have missed the pueblito platter - I appreciate that they're trying to give a little sample of three Latino classic but they were so small and it didn't hold a candle to the lobster cappuccino which came with a discrete sweetness from the truffled corn and a compliment of olive oil. It was such a delicate dish that sent us through an adventure of flavors. The cod entree could've had more passion fruit but it was cooked so well either way. The steak was seasoned uniquely with a Smokey chili flavor and cooked just right. Both desserts were also very creative, the chocolate tart one being so rich just the way we like it.

Potato side dish. Four burnt and cold potatoes served for two people to share at $120 per person.......

Valentine's Day dinner here was, unfortunately, a very expensive disappointment. We were blindsided by a $120 per person prix fixe menu that was never disclosed on the website or at the time of reservation. Transparency matters, especially when you're asking people to spend this kind of money. The food itself did not come close to justifying the price. All but one of our main courses arrived cold. At $120 a head, that should simply never happen. Out of roughly 10 items served, the only standouts were the smoked salmon appetizer, the bread, and the beef Wellington. Everything else ranged from forgettable to genuinely underwhelming. I have included a photo of the two sides that we were served. This was the portion that was sent out for TWO people to share at $120 each. Both were cold and as you can see the quality is.......bad. The desserts were particularly baffling....one consisted of a single raspberry with sauce, which felt more like a joke than a plated dessert. Several appetizers and desserts tasted and looked store-bought, which is pretty inexcusable at this price point. Our waiter was the bright spot of the evening and did provide a discount after we raised concerns, which we appreciated. Still, we spent over $350 and left both hungry and disappointed. For the same money, we could have gone into DC and had an actual fine-dining experience. Unfortunately, between the lack of upfront communication and the poor quality, this was not worth it and we won't be returning.

The cod was light with complimentary citrus and passion fruit flavors . The grilled pineapple was a great added element.

The entire staff is very hospitable and the out door seating is beautifully peaceful. They have very talented live guitarist on the out direction during dinner ( usually Thursdays). The innovative menu has a variety of palate pleasures. One star taken away for a semi weird dessert. Please see the picture... where I elaborate.

I went to Cedar Knoll for lunch (not brunch, which was made clear) last Sunday. We sat outside on the patio, which was great for the weather, and it's a beautiful setting. Our party of four had a bottle of rose (though I did have a delicious glass of Sancerre because I'm not a rose gal) and we shared some appetizers and then each got our own entrees. The food was good but the portions were small for the price and the service was beyond slow. The mini biscuits they give you to start and light and fluffy and I felt like I could have eaten 50 of them. We shared the oysters rockefeller, the small bibb salad and the bacon wrapped scallops. Again, they were all good but small and the oysters and scallops were an uneven count which is always tricky in a group of four. For our entrees, two of us had the lobster and scallop risotto and the other two had the crab cakes. My friends liked that the crab cakes were all crab with no filler and the risotto was rich and flavorful. But the service was just off. We waited a very long time to order. Then an even longer time to get our appetizers. And then I didn't think we could wait any longer for our entrees but we sure did. We also had to continually ask for more water. Tables around us kept coming and receiving our food and yet we had nothing. We sat down at 12:30 and left at 3:00pm. I could see that this might be a good spot for an event or special occasion but it just didn't hit the spot for me.

I've been coming to Cedar Knoll for about 9 years. The staff is always friendly, they remember my wife and I whenever we visit, and the rotating menu is always fun and different. They have continually made additions and alterations to the venue and it's nice seeing new things when we come in. Great view of the Potomac when available and nice atmosphere inside.

Yo girl been trying to eat a little healthier and was looking for some baked or grill fish. This restaurant did deliver. The grill tilapia and broccoli was pretty good. The portion size was on point. My son wanted their crab cake burger which I had to taste and it was delicious. They offer mumbo sauce with their fries and it is banging. Got a nice little kick to it. The corn on the cob is so so. Its not bad but I just had better. Its too greasy for corn on the cob too. So confused about that. Any who, I spent $40 for everything which was reasonable for 2 meals. I will definitely be back to try other menu items. The cashiers here are super friendly which is always appreciated because its seems like people are losing basic manners. So thanks ladies for your kindness it didnt go unnoticed. Would I recommend this restaurant, yeah I would. Its not spectacular but its pretty good and you get enough food for the price. That itself is worth it. So go and visit so we can keep restaurants like this open in our community.

There are surprising number of chicken options here for a place called, "This Is Seafood", but not quite as many seafood options as I hoped. I was really looking forward to getting an order of fried scallops for lunch and I was a little disappointed they didn't have them on the menu. I decided to get the Combo #4: 3 whole wings, 6 fried shrimp, and my choice of 1 piece of fish and side dish. For my fish, I chose fried catfish and for my side I chose hush puppies. The combo also came with a fountain drink. I decided to mix their house-made lemonade and house-made iced tea and it made the perfect half-and-half. The wait wasn't too bad, as the food was being freshly made. It was piping hot and crispy when I received it. Those shrimp were huge! Some of the biggest fried shrimp I've ever had...And not those butterfly shrimp either. Whole shrimp, and the tail was removed so I didn't have to worry about accidentally crunching on one of the shells. The catfish was delectable! Perfectly seasoned, delightfully crispy, and absolutely melted in my mouth. So good. I'm coming back for the catfish if nothing else. The wings were perfectly fried, nice and crispy, but they were a bit too light on the seasoning for my taste. And the mumbo sauce tasted too similar to barbecue sauce. I did not like that, so I ended up saving the rest of the wings until I got home to put my own mumbo sauce on them. The hush puppies were also really good. I like that they were fried perfectly and weren't greasy... Even after reheating them. Overall, my lunch cost me about $25 and it was enough food for at least two meals. Can't beat that. I'll be back for that catfish.

He was especially attracted to the beautiful flowers and leaves that were painted on the walls of the restaurant. The hostess ushered us to a special, capacious table in a quiet nook of the restaurant. In that space we had an amazing dining experience. The waitress, Olivia, was kind, attentive, and overall an amazing server. Albeit she was busy, she went out of her way to make ours a special dining experience. The food, was absolutely delicious. Each member of our party of four enjoyed our respective meals. I had a fish sandwich that was absolutely scrumptious. Throughout the meal, Olivia returned to the table many times to make sure that we were attended to, and satisfied with our meals. As I mentioned previously, it was my friend's son's birthday, and we came specifically to this restaurant to celebrate it. We were absolutely astounded when our server brought a scrumptious chocolate layer cake with a birthday candle for the birthday person. She also organized the staff to sign a card with birthday felicitations. Such a kind gesture on her part! In summary, I highly recommend Burton's Grill as it is an amazing restaurant. It checks off all the boxes for atmosphere, delicious food, and an amazing staff ; it offers the customer an excellent dining experience. I can't wait to return to try other entrées in the future. Thank you again for your attentive service and kindness to my friend's son on his 24th birthday.

Not what I expected but it will suit specific people looking for their offerings. Burton's Grill is your typical all American restaurant but focuses on serving all the dietary needs of Americans with allergies or not. The place looks new, the kind of place you wanna wear clean clothes at a minimum and not look slovenly. Outside sitting, full large bar, sports on several TVs above the center of the bar, and a lot of servers milling around here. Great lighting, not loud but not quiet either, just chill. We were starved so our eyes ate. Brunch was still being served till 3pm on Saturdays and Sundays so I grabbed the French Toast and the Steak and Eggs. My friend had allergies with gluten so she went with a salmon and some super salad dish. She was happy as all the dishes had markers for gluten free, food free, soul free, etc. Very helpful for all allergy infused humans. Great waitress btw. Fantastic service. Food came after some time, we requested for everything to come out on time. Steak and egg was okay but I'd go with the prime rib next time. The steak came out sliced with 2 poached eggs on top. The hash on the side was on point. Salmon okay too. Salad was okay but we should have added a protein on top. A little dry on dressing maybe but we could have requested more so that's on us. On the other hand, the French toast had me scratching my head. It was cubed challah bread but eggs was 0, zero, nada eggs on it. I thought I was eating croutons which would have gone great with the super salad dish thinking about it now. The French toast really bunched up my undies, French toast is my favorite breakfast thing you see. They explained it was prepped that way for allergy sake due to the egg. Well, I'm not allergic and never said I was, but my friend was but she wasn't eating my dish so why make it in this fashion. Overall, this experience was just okay. Nice environment and service but I realized how lucky I am not to be allergic cause if I have to eat French toast like this forever, I'm not sure what to do. Definitely not up to eating croutons with syrup.
