We had dinner at Ada's on the River on a weeknight to meet a vegetarian friend. Since Ada's has a nice vegetarian menu in addition to the meat menu, we snagged a reservation. It was a nice day so we seated outside, although it got a little too windy. For appetizers, we got Wood-Fried Chicken Thighs and Artisan Cheese Plate along with cocktails. Both dishes were delicious and nicely presented. For entrees, I had Crab Stuffed Carolina Trout which was impressive! We also shared coal-roasted mushrooms and coal-roasted vegetables. We were too stuffed to order dessert but our server gave us complimentary baklava. The service was excellent and the food was delicious! I would definitely love to return to try the steaks.

Shout out to Peter G! We were a party of 9 celebrating a 40th Birthday. The restaurant accommodated us in the back room and Peter took great care of us! There wasn't a side dish that I tasted that I didn't like! We all passed around the shareable sides. For my main dish I had the pork chop which was cooked to perfection I am definitely returning to try other dishes and get my own serving of the lobster mac and cheese. Parking isn't the easiest. But I will plan accordingly.

Was such a beautiful sunny Saturday and my hunnie and I decided to go down to old town and spend the evening just like we used to do when we first started dating. Originally we were going to Barca however they were crazy packed so we decided to just come here and I'm glad we did. We placed our name one the list to sit outside however we found a perfect spot at the bar. We love finding seats at the bar unfortunately there were no TV's but it was all good. More us time. My hunnie opted for an old Fashioned smoked with his fav Angel's Envy Rye and I tried the Balanced Algorithm. My drink was a bit toooo sweet!! Reminded me of a holiday drink lol but it was good. The "East Side" one of the bar tenders made was refreshing and delicious too! I really enjoyed this cocktail. It was giving Green Juice from Cabo with a shot of Hendricks lol For dinner my husband ordered the lamb chops. The lamb chops were fatty...not so much meat on them...however he said the flavor was good from what he was able to cut around. I ordered the mushrooms lasagna and it was just OK...very bland...& lacked flavor... The noodles were also a bit over cooked. I wasn't expecting crispy noodles. The sides were very good. We went with Brussels sprouts minus the bacon and the roasted sweet potatoes. Was a perfect date night. Perfect restaurant for date night, girls/guys nights out... Check them out! I'm glad we did. Happy Yelping!

I have been here a few times now and have nothing but great things to say. The location is awesome with great views. The service is excellent, and the food is great. If you are in Old Town, you have to put this on your list of places to try.

Amazing spot next to the river deep in Alexandria, great for lunch or date night. We went during the day but at night I'm sure it's beautiful. Had wonderful Virginia oysters to start and they were medium size. I had the swordfish sandwich, perfect, the bread was so fresh and so were the veggies with a generous portion of fish. We had multiple people helping us and it felt great, good attention to details

Came back for Happy Hour which is only available at the bar or outside high tops. I came around 4:30 and didn't find any issues with seating at the bar but the restaurant did get fairly busy after that. The bartender was a little busy and so it took some time to get my order. We really enjoyed the Happy Hour bites Mini Lobster Roll - this was really good, decent amount of lobster and the buttered roll was delicious. French Dip Slider - flavor was amazing but a little difficult to eat. This fell apart pretty easily but overall, I really enjoyed it. Peruvian Steak Skewer - this was also very flavorful and cooked perfectly. My friend got the crab rangoon and she said that she also really enjoyed it. The only issue we had was we ordered last minute for Happy Hour for another French Dip and it was accidentally rung up under the individuals next to us. We asked after realizing it was put in 30 minutes ago and they offered either a comped drink or have the kitchen make another one even though it was only offered on the Happy Hour menu. I really enjoyed everything and would definitely come back again.

We went for brunch and really enjoyed the experience overall. The mocktails were fantastic everyone at the table liked them. I had the Cobb salad, which was very good, and my sister ordered the crab cake, which was also tasty and well prepared. We also tried one of the fish specials (I can't remember the name), which was just okay compared to the other dishes. The service was fast and casual, which worked well for brunch. I also ordered the vanilla chai crème brûlée. The flavor was good and unique, but the texture was a bit different from what I usually expect from a crème brûlée, so it wasn't my favorite version of the dessert. Overall, it was a great brunch experience and I would definitely return, especially for the mocktails and main dishes.

Food was delicious! We actually went in for lunch and wanted to try the chicken and we were bummed since it's a dinner option. We tried the angus burger and wedge salad! Both were delicious. Our burger was cooked perfectly medium rear and our wedge salad was bit only beautiful but delicious. The salad was not traditional and had a spicy chili on it. It was incredibly good. Did not disappoint. I would definitely come back again. I would come back for dinner and try the chicken. We sat out with the river view and it was a perfect day. Not too hot for a summer day. Our server was great other than forgetting our extra request for a pickle. He forgot, maybe he was busy.

Happy Hour Review: Monday-Friday from 3-6pm, if you want to be outside they have limited hightop seating, first come first serve. I got a white cosmo for $9 and my friend got a Moscow mule for $17. The mini lobster roll was indeed mini, we asked them to cut it so we could share but didn't realize how mini it was at $8. You could finish it in 2 bites. Waitress was nice

DELICIOUS! Had the fried chicken biscuit and had lobster mac and cheese( they were able to accommodate for brunch)! Both are a must try! Biscuit was light fluffy and not dry. Chicken and pimento weee the perfect combo and the lobster mac and cheese spoke for itself. Perfect balance of cheese and noodles and right amount of lobster. Service was spot on as well. Along with the views of water a must try for the brunch.

Everything was excellent: the staff greeted us well, our table was lovely and comfortable! Our server, Bryan was simply exceptional! He was attentive to detail and to our needs! Gracious and pleasant. The food was simply delicious!! Ada's is worth patronizing on a regular basis.

Ada's on the River is the perfect spot in Old Town to enjoy a beautiful, sunny day. Sitting outside on the patio with views of the water makes for a relaxing meal. The service was fast and helpful. We went for seafood dishes and tried the giant crab cake and the tuna tartare. The crab cake had big chunks of delicious crab. Both were fresh, flavorful, and had a nice presentation. With its waterfront views, welcoming service, and strong seafood options, Ada's is a great place to unwind and enjoy a meal outdoors. I highly recommend visiting when the weather is nice.

The servers were friendly, attentive, and made us feel welcome throughout our visit. We started with a few appetizers, and the Crab & Oyster Rockefeller was absolutely delicious. My mocktail was also refreshing and well-crafted. My husband thoroughly enjoyed the Old Bay wings, and my cousins loved both the shrimp and grits and the salad with grilled scallops. Unfortunately, my entrée was the biggest disappointment of the evening. I ordered the Bolognese pasta, and it just completely missed the mark. It didn't taste like a traditional bolognese at all. The sauce was overly acidic and lacked the rich, slow-simmered flavor I was expecting. It's definitely not something I would ever order again. The only other downside was the temperature inside the restaurant. We visited during a heat wave, and while I understand the building is older, it was uncomfortably HOT. I found myself sweating through most of the meal, which made it difficult to fully enjoy the experience. Overall, I have mixed feelings about my visit. The atmosphere, service, appetizers, and drinks were all enjoyable, but my entrée and the uncomfortable temperature kept the experience from being a great one. I would consider returning, but next time I'd stick to the appetizers or try a different entrée.

I called ahead and spoke with Todd, who was incredibly kind and accommodating for our party of five. When we arrived, Todd greeted us and seated us right away. He truly radiates light and joy, setting the tone for the entire evening. Our server, Alison, was an absolute gem--attentive, personable, and on top of everything. The food was outstanding. We ordered the ribeye, New York steak, and filet mignon, all cooked to perfection. The Oysters Rockefeller were superb! I had asked for my daughter's meal to come out as soon as possible, and they made it happen without hesitation, which we really appreciated. For sides, we had the Brussels sprouts--perfectly balanced, sweet but not overly so--and the creamed corn, which was absolutely on point. We didn't end up ordering dessert, but the options looked amazing and tempting! Todd came by our table to check in, which added such a personal touch. The ambiance was lovely, and as we were leaving, Todd walked us outside and spent a few moments chatting with us--it truly meant a lot. Todd and Alison made our experience at The Oaks unforgettable, along with the incredible food. Thank you both--we hope to see you again soon! --SoCal Visitors

I don't eat beef or pork, but after watching a review from Peaks100, I saw that the manager also recommended the seafood along with the steaks. My wife eats steak, so I took her there for that, and I planned to order seafood. Spoiler alert: my wife enjoyed her steak. Now that I got that out of the way, let me continue. https://youtu.be/5uPuX7Fk_cE?si=H7NI2vI_uMWAeREq Appetizer Octopus Ceviche -- $18 I told our server that I didn't want any pork on it. She seemed surprised and told me it didn't come with pork. I had already looked up "pancetta crumble" and knew pancetta was pork, so I showed her the menu. She then said she knew what pancetta was and would make sure there was no pork on my plate. The ceviche itself didn't have much flavor. I didn't really enjoy it, but it wasn't bad enough for me to complain or send it back. Dinner Housemade "Parkerhouse" Rolls -- $8 These came out fresh and hot with butter. They were good. No complaints. Chef's Fresh Catch -- $50 The fresh catch was grouper. The fish had some salt on it and a nice char, but the heavy cream-based sauce on the plate didn't have much flavor. Again, I didn't really enjoy it, but not enough to complain or return the dish. Jumbo Lump Crab Oscar -- $28 Wow, this was not good at all. I probably should have sent it back, but I didn't. It was tough and rubbery (see pic), almost like it had been left under the broiler too long. I took it home with me, but I honestly will probably end up throwing it away. Sides Crispy Brussels Sprouts -- $13 These were good, but somewhat oily. Yukon Gold Potato Purée -- $12 They were okay. Nothing to write home about. Dessert Coconut Cream Bread Pudding -- $14 It was just okay. The coconut flakes was too much, in my opinion, and eventually became overwhelming. It didn't feel very balanced. Overall, I felt the service could have been better, and most of the food needed more flavor, especially at this price point. Nothing was so terrible that I felt the need to ask for a manager, but I also didn't enjoy most of what I ordered. I ordered it, so I paid for it and kept it moving. Also, a 25% gratuity was already added to the bill. Maybe that is why the service was lacking, because they already knew they were going to get 25% "allegedly". Honestly, I don't think I'll be back. There are too many other good places in the DMV where you can have better food and a better overall experience for the same price or less.

It ended up being one of the best random lunch decisions I've made in a while. I pulled up solo and wasn't expecting to walk into such a beautiful space. The high ceilings, all the greenery, the natural light...it honestly feels like you're tucked away in this little garden in the middle of the city. It was one of those places where you instantly relax. Whether you're grabbing lunch alone, catching up with a friend, or on a lunch date, the vibe just works. One thing I really liked was that the dining room where I had lunch feels completely different from the front of the restaurant. It's almost like two different experiences in one place, and I thought that was such a cool touch. Looking around, there were a lot of people on lunch dates, business lunches, and people just enjoying the afternoon. My server, I believe her name was Annie, was an absolute sweetheart. We got to chatting, and I mentioned I was celebrating one month at my new job. She was genuinely happy for me and made me feel like I wasn't just another table. Those little interactions always stick with me. Now for the food. I started with a gin cocktail that was smooth and refreshing, then had the house salad without the cranberries, which was fresh and simple. And of course, the reason I came...the French onion soup. The cheese pull? Exactly what I wanted. The broth had great flavor, and it definitely hit the spot. My only complaint is I wish the bowl was a little bigger, but I'm guessing that's because it's part of the lunch special. But I was so happy and the salad was also so fresh and tasty I was literally dancing in my seat. The bathrooms were spotless, and I have to shout out whoever decided to put a full length mirror outside of them because that's the kind of detail I appreciate. Perfect for a quick fit check before heading back to work. I love when I randomly pick a restaurant and it ends up exceeding my expectations. Great service, good food, beautiful atmosphere, and a lunch special that's actually worth the price. Josephine is definitely a place I'll be adding to my regular rotation, and next time I already know I'm coming back to explore more of the menu.

Every entree also came with either champagne or strawberries and cream. The cream was thick and delicious. The crab cakes were dry, unfortunately. Maybe it's partly because there was no filler, which is a good thing, but I wished they were more moist. And the fries had a crispy batter, which are not my favorite. Lastly, I wished the meal came with a vegetable of some sort. And I didn't see any sides to order from, and no veggies for apps. Wondering about the attire? I would suggest smart casual, business casual at a minimum. You can put on a fancy dress if you'd like too! The drinks and food were amazing! I loved the kalabi Toscana and the bistec entree (chef's choice and that day was waygu). It was soooo good! I was greedy and wanted more. I just have to visit again. Service overall was top notch! Kudos to our main server, Rodney. He was amazing! Thank you!

When we arrived, there was a piano player in the bar area, which added charm without being too loud. The service was fast and helpful. The food was delicious, my favorite dish was the octopus, though I also really enjoyed the steak. The pork belly was another standout, full of flavor. They also offer an innovative cocktail menu. Overall, a charming spot that balances sophistication with comfort. I'd recommend it for a date night or ladies night.

Plenty of seating and outlets along the walls. I ordered the lamb hash for breakfast with an iced latte. It was 3/5 stars. Not bad, but could be better. I expected the lamb to be shredded and it was a bit over cooked for my taste, but the latte was good. Service was great!

DON'T EAT HERE. Some common slang I've heard these days when evaluating a restaurant goes by the…read morephrase "gas or trash?" Well, Kiln is both: gas poured onto trash and then lit ablaze into a raging dumpster fire TLDR: Don't eat here. I came here with my wife and a group of friends on a Friday night. The prices are outrageous, the food is terrible, the servers don't take orders correctly, and the ambiance is a that of a blank canvass. Don't eat here. I'm really not sure what peeved me more: $4 oysters, $23 burgers, or the $24 risotto that I ordered that the server left off the ticket. 5/6 people in our party were served their entrees. Then a manager randomly shows up and tells me my order of risotto was somehow left off the ticket. So I'm sitting there like a schmuck for 15 minutes waiting for my order while everyone else is eating. Risotto finally came and was undercooked and lukewarm. Then, the bill comes and the risotto wasn't even comped. Don't eat here. Plus, they have a tiny menu. Tiny menus are a godsend if a restaurant does these items well. But Kiln falls so far short on this notion that it's just sad. Lastly, don't eat here. You have a choice in restaurants in historic Old Town Alexandria and Kiln shouldn't be one.
