I was surprised the restaurant wasn't better reviewed. The quality of the food was exceptional. The flavor profiles and creativity of the dishes were perfect for me! They have healthy & flavorful ingredients. My cafe latte was delicious. The staff was friendly & professional. The ambience was casual but clean & cozy. I never had dessert but thee offerings looked delicious. Their Brussels sprouts were the BEST I've ever had. Iron skillet prepared w and ample portion of bacon and sweetness. I truly feel this is an underrated gem in the downtown. The hotel offered very nice accommodations and with the is restaurant in their lobby it was a home run for us! I'd recommend BOTH the hotel & the restaurant highly. I'm knowingly given it 5 stars because it deserves a higher overall rating! I know it's not fine dining BUT it is delicious & quite the value! read more

Came for breakfast during an anniversary staycation. The waiter was not very attentive to the patrons dining outside. The food was not good- the ham was too tough to chew and other meal lacked flavor; the cinnamon roll was good. When requesting the check we also asked for a box for the cinnamon roll which never came; we waited ten minutes and then had to ask the host. The meal was a gift by the hotel, but for the price point this is absolutely unacceptable. read more

Stopped by King & Rye for a quick Sunday breakfast and left really satisfied. I had the Virginia Breakfast, the deviled eggs, and the cast iron cinnamon roll -- all were spot on. The Virginia Breakfast came with two eggs, crispy potatoes, sausage, and a biscuit -- hearty, classic, and exactly what I was craving. The deviled eggs were clearly made with care, nicely balanced and flavorful. And the cast iron cinnamon roll was the perfect little sweet treat to finish off the meal -- warm, gooey, and just the right size to share or enjoy solo. Service was quick, and the overall vibe was relaxed and easygoing -- ideal for a Sunday morning. Definitely a great spot for a well-made, no-fuss breakfast. read more

Stayed at the hotel attached to King & Rye and stopped in for a night cap. We sat at the bar and were served quickly. The lavender bees knees was delicious and the K&R old fashioned was good as well. We ordered the fried green tomatoes and were very happy with the dish. The tomatoes were crispy and the pimento cheese sauce to dip them in was amazing. I would definitely order these again. Service was fast and efficient and the bartender. made good recommendations. read more

This place is a nice restaurant connected to a hotel. Ambiance is nice and romantic perfect for mandate or a quite family dinner. Food was mediocre with service that ehhh ok. Why the food was mediocre? Ehhh my daughter myself and my mom all ordered the shrimp and grits..I'm use to a butter creamy thick consistency type of grits...these grits were over taken by the sauce that the shrimp was in..not wha t was expecting. The drink I wanted they were out of mint..so no mint julep for me...went with another drink that was ok. There are plenty of other restaurants in the area you may want to try & skip this place along with their hefty prices with A'okay food. read more

Review for the bar not dinner. Outstanding cocktail selection, seemingly with a strong bourbon focus (or maybe those are just what was catching my eye). The bartenders were polite and professional, and pumping out the drinks. Prices are King Street level, but the pours were solid and the drinks well executed. If you're looking for a strong selection of bourbons, a pretty good choice! They do close at 11pm on the weekend though (and earlier during the week), so plan accordingly if you're planning a late night. read more

Very cute and classy place in Old Town. My party was sat very quickly and I immediately noticed how clean and beautiful everything is. This place is perfect for date night, girls night, or whenever you want to feel chic. The server answered all of our questions and checked on us often. I got the strip loin. The steak was cooked very well. The pea purée was left off of my plate. When I let the sever know, he bought some out in a small dish- like the metal dish thru bring condiments in. Honestly, the dish was better without the purée. I wish there was a full serving of veggies instead. read more

I decided to try this place because they were participating in Restaurant Week and had an appealing looking menu. I was not expecting much because I didn't know anyone who'd ever been or heard anything about the food, but I was blown away. This is a hotel restaurant, so it's a little small, but has a nice charm and date night vibe. The service was pretty good, but the food was the star of the show. The skillet cornbread was the best over ever had! The blackened loin was simple, but delicious, the shrimp and grits were different but very good. I wasn't too much a fan of the blackberry cobbler, because the pie crust was tough and chewy and I pulled it completely off in one piece. The berries and ice cream together were great though. read more

Simply delicious! I visited King & Rye during Restaurant Week and was not disappointed. The restaurant and atmosphere were clean and relaxing. The staff was pleasant too. The deviled eggs had a delightful hint of spice, the trout was perfect, the lima beans were equally as good and the crab rice was moist and very good as well. I would recommend this restaurant and will definitely be returning! read more

The restaurant for the Alexandria Autograph Hotel is fairly basic. First the menu was a used, crumbled piece of paper. The hamburger was not seasoned. The brussel sprouts were growing in a sweet and sticky sauce. The Paloma has very little tequila and too much ginger beer. The service was nice and helpful. read more

Service was quick and friendly, but did not rush us. There was a restaurant week option. The table ordered squash soup, house salad, cheeseburger, steak, pimento cheese and biscuits. The espresso martini here is made with whiskey AND comes with a homemade marshmallow garnish. It was good food. The tater tots with the burger were cubes. Dessert is a must. Please enjoy my poor quality photos. The tables aren't stacked on one another so it is possible to hear everyone. It's a casual environment based on server and patron attire. Ambiance felt like a hotel restaurant which it is. read more

I wasn't feeling well due to a car ride. We are staying at this hotel and needed a dinner spot. I am SO grateful that King & Rye was attached and right downstairs. It was phenomenal. Redone was our server i asked for recommendations and he was so pleasant. We had the deviled eggs and the mussels. The deviled eggs were good but those mussels were amazing and out of this world. Then we opted for the sirloin and man...It was perfect. The seasoning was perfect and cooled at the perfect medium rare. I shared...i wish I hadn't I was so close to order just another steak. My husband got the pimento mac & cheese ,added crawfish. That was amazing. This restaurant, I highly recommend. Service was on point and ask for our server. He was so kind. Had the breakfast here while staying in the hotel for the weekend. Ordered the bacon eggs Benedict. It wasn't any traditional bacon, more like a soft fatty cheesy piece, I didn't care for its However the poached eggs were cooked very well, the hollandaise sauce was ok to good, but a bit bland. My wife had simple eggs meat and toast. She selected the sausage, and it was very overcooked and dry, after one very small bite, pushed it aside. Coffee was good. read more

3.5/5 Visited during restaurant week on a weekday evening. Easy to make reservations via OpenTable and was quickly seated upon checking in. We were seated in the dining area near the kitchen and patio and the area was a little dark. Restaurant Week menu was $40 for appetizer/dessert and entree. I chose the deviled eggs for appetizer and pan seared trout for entree as well as Brussels sprouts. The food was very good with hefty portions. I really enjoyed the deviled eggs with the hint of spice as well as the candied Brussels sprouts. Food came out in a very timely manner on a busy evening. At the beginning of our dining experience our server was very helpful with recommendations however our server did not check on us much throughout the evening. Our food was brought by other team members as well as our bill. Great restaurant week deal for food portions and flavors. Nearby paid street parking $$ read more

We tried this restaurant out on a Saturday evening. The first thing that hit me when we sat down was how hot it was in the restaurant. I will say that it was a very hot day, however, the temperature in the restaurant should not reflect the temperature outside. I was extremely hot and uncomfortable the entire time we were there. The restaurant is nice inside. As far as the food, the cornbread and deviled eggs were really good. However, I ordered the brined chicken dish for my entree and ended up sending it back. It was flavorless. I ended up getting the shrimp and grits and it was better, but it was just okay. My husband enjoyed his scallop dish. The server was nice and was helpful in recommending dishes. Overall, an underwhelming dining experience. I expected more for the price of the dishes. read more

A group of us reserved an igloo at King &Rye. This was our second year in a row as it is a great time and perfect for the holidays. One of the managers, Leo, was helping out the waiter and told us a story about his tattoo and how it related to his grandmother. The service was outstanding and Leo really was personable. Since no one had reserved the igloo after us we were permitted to stay an extra hour. The shareable small plates and entrees were very good and large enough to share with the eight people in our party. The pork Shank was the highlight, extremely tender and full of flavor. We also had the tomahawk, and short rib paella. Old fashions and specialty winter inspired cocktails were flowing! The igloos fit up to 8 people and there is a $200 minimum which is not hard to meet at all with a party of 8. Great set up for a holiday gathering with friends or family. read more

Came in during a very buzy breakfast period, and joined a largish group (10) in amongst many others for Saturday brunch. Order taken quickly, and drinks & food followed at a modest pace. Drinks were ok, it was a mediocre Manhattan while others had bottled local beers. The menu was, to put it bluntly, disappointing. I was hoping for a specialty, or something creative- but it was basic faire menu at marked up prices. Settled on the shrimp & grits, which they used "fat back" southern style bacon, which was mostly a smoked rendered piece of pork fat. Not very good, imho. The area was also crowded, noisy and blustery with a nearby open door blasting us with cold air anytime they went to serve people in their private dining "igloos." Oh, and I never saw the "all dressed in black wait staff" or waitress again after service except to ask if we were done with the table. Guess the included tip for the party over 6 just wasn't enough for them to be civil or to offer waters or coffee. I don't think you'll have a bad meal, on average, but it won't be memorable either. I have little reason to return. If you're fine for a mash up between starbucks & waffle house- while paying double for it, with marginal service- sure, eat here. But it's not somewhere I would recommend you dine. read more

I was invited out to this place with some friends and we arrived around 6pm, wasn't too crowded. I noticed it was very dark in the restaurant which is okay for the vibes I guess but on a Friday, it made me sleepy lol. Anywho, our waiter was super sweet and wanted to make sure we tried the best dishes they had available. I got the trout with the pinto beans with a side dish of mac n cheese and was in love. The waiter brought their in house hot sauce and it paired well with the trout. For appetizers we tried to honey cornbread and deviled eggs and they both were amazing as well. My friends and I were arguing over who would have the last piece of cornbread so needless to say we enjoyed it. Will definitely go back again to try their brunch which I heard was good as well. read more

Impromptu Date Night: My wife and I came to King & Rye yesterday evening after we swung past Ben'Yays, but boy were we surprised at this little gem on King Street. The restaurant wasn't crowded but the decor was lovely and sophisticated. We opted to sit inside since there wasn't any available tables outside but it was a mice experience. The staff were friendly and attentive, and the food was immaculate! The chicken was delcious and the potatoes were buttery goodness! The burger was cooked well-done and was good, but those carrots!!! We were invited as guests of someone who rented one of the igloos in the courtyard area. This is such a fun and unique experience. It seats about eight people. They do have a minimum spend for the igloo, but it is not very expensive. They have an amazing assortment of southern tapas and small plates. They have a tomahawk steak, a pork chop and a rainbow trout served family style, however what they are most known for is their sharing paella's which come in an assortment of chicken and andouille sausage, seafood, and short rib. We tried the seafood which was packed with mussels, squid and shrimp. The group also enjoyed the braised short rib. The group also got the tomahawk which was huge and already sliced. That is served with the most amazing mashed potatoes and rainbow carrots. The presentation of everything is beautiful. They also have a great cocktail menu. Keep in mind this igloo menu is different from their indoor menu and not everything is available from the indoor menu in the igloos. The igloos have different themes and we were in ski chalet. They do have blankets and some people were cold and kept their coat on and use the blankets while others like myself from Florida. We're just fine and didn't wear their coat. I would definitely gather a group of friends and go before the season ends. Enjoy! read more

We had a party of 6 for breakfast this morning. The server got the coffee orders wrong. The table order 4 double expressos, 1 latte, and 1 coffee. The server brought out 4 double expressos and 2 coffees. 4 people ordered cheese omelets and 1 ordered an egg white cheese omelet. The food came out and all 5 omelets had ham in them. The kitchen remade the food to the correct order. The bill came and not only was wrong but they automatically added a 20% gratuity! Yesterday we stopped by for breakfast at King and Rye! We were in the area and it caught our eye and I'm so glad we went in because the food was good! I had the Virginia Breakfast which came with 2 eggs, crispy red potatoes, thick cut bacon and sour dough toast. My boyfriend had the Buttermilk Pancakes with Bown Butter apples, Diplomat Cream and Maple Syrup with a side of ham. The food was good and fresh, I'd definitely love to stop by again and try more items on the menu! The service was also good, the staff was friendly and attentive. I love the aesthetic too of the place, it's reminiscent of a whiskey bar but more modern and a little upscale. This restaurant is nextdoor and connected to The Alexandrian Hotel. This was my first visit to Old Town and king and rye didn't disappoint. All the staff was very friendly and attentive from the moment you walked in. But first parking is street parking but there's a parking lot on the side streets that's only $1 per hour that's a steal.... Ok so we reserved for the heated igloos so we were outside .... Very cute. We ordered the deviled eggs and cinnamon bun as apps both were delicious. The eggs were seasoned to perfection. I'm not big on cocktails due to them being weak but both of my hot cocktails did not disappoint.... The cozy by the fire was my favorite. It was a hot apple cider and cinnamon whiskey drink. I ordered a burger that was suppose to come with a side of tater tots but came with fries due to them running out but our server gave us extra potatoes as well to satisfy our loss of tater tots lol The food and condiments are made in house the bacon my friend had was hand slice and thick like pork belly.
