If you go here get the oatmeal pancakes. I tried a friends, and they were off the charts. The chicken and waffles had chorizo gravy and honey and was really good too. My eggs for my breakfast were cooked wrong, so maybe don't get eggs unless you want them over easy. Their coffee wasn't great either. The biscuit was fluffy and filling too. Our server was great for a big group during brunch hour, we were never left looking for him or wanting anything. It is super cute. Their outdoors is covered if it's raining or cold and they have flowers all over. It was very good, and a good price as well.

Not sure why the reviews are so low! We were in town visiting my family, and we made a reservation for 8:30pm. The restaurant has a cozy, living room-esque vibe to it. Our server, Antoine, was super nice and gave us lots of recommendations. We had been traveling for a long time, so we both just opted for a burger and fries. The flavors were really good and the portions were generous. The restaurant was pretty empty but it was pretty late for dinner. I'm imagining the place is hopping for brunch. I'd definitely go back!!

Nice restaurant with a large variety of options on the menu. Went for dinner and it's got a nice romantic ambiance, low lit and moody bar space this is a great date night spot. Food was fresh and flavorful, they're now part of Alexandria Restaurant Partners so I do feel like there's a high baseline for quality that is met here. Servers and staff were friendly and attentive!

We thought it would be crowded and parking scarce but came on a Sunday night and found it not so. The table was set with live flowers. Our server was attentive and the management team took time to check on the quality of everything. It was very good. My Cuban sandwich was probably had the easiest thing to make at the table, other than the kids grilled cheese, but the meat was delicious and pickle juicy. The grilled cheese was too big for a kid's meal so, I helped out with that too and found it excellent. The night came earlier than we desired, it being daylight savings and the clocks set forward an hour, but at least I got a picture of the night ambiance.

They have the best cup of coffee (apparently not included in the price of the weekend buffet)!

This once Old Town institution is obviously under new management or the original owner went off the deep end. I think it's new management because the changes to the place are stark and NOT for the better! We were welcomed with the words that grate on me like nails on a blackboard! "Do you have reservations?" NO, we've never needed reservations in the past, and I don't see lines of people trying to get a seat here. Literally, the dining room was half empty when we walked in, asking for a table for 3. The new menu is a "my way or the highway" set of limiting choices, and it's clear from the waiter, that there are NO SUBSTITUTIONS! Oh, and if you want TOAST with your omelette (and there are only two omelette options on their brunch menu), you'll have to bring your own toast (I'm joking, but wouldn't it be funny if you did bring your own toast?). Overall, the food was nothing to write home about. I had the western omelette with smoked cheddar cheese and NO TOAST! Remember, oh, and remember, NO SUBSTITUTIONS so it's smoked cheddar or NO cheese at all! I ordered a side of "thick cut bacon" and even it was overly seasoned and then undercooked. Just the way nobody in their right mind would like it! Except maybe the #%@& FLIES that must have made their way into the dining room from the outdoor dining area that was recently added. Oh, and for four slices of bacon they charge $9. I've said this before and I'll repeat it in my own defense. I hate leaving bad reviews and I try desperately to keep an open mind when restaurants chance course, but I don't like this new restaurant. I don't like their pompous attitude and the limiting menu and the taste of the most basic things. Their coffee for example is as offensive as the over-seasoned bacon and the "smoked cheddar" in their pretentious western omelette! I'm not going here again!

Fried cauliflower and curried chickpea sause over pilaf rice. Unique and delicious!

I hadn't been here in years....WOW! At first I went back for Sunday brunch because some friends wanted to try it...it was the best brunch I've had in ages. The staff were fantastic, the options quite diverse, and everything I tried, I really enjoyed! It was all delicious....and great coffee as well. Then, more recently, I brought some out of town visitors for dinner. We tried so many different things! There was a set menu with amazing options...things I've never seen...all of it, delicious! I also tried a fried cauliflower sitting on a bed of pilaf rice with a curried chickpea sauce....WOW! It totally changed my mind about cauliflower. And then the desserts....again amazing. I focused my attention on the banana split....unlike any I have ever had. It was a light, fresh, perfectly caramelized banana with delicious vanilla ice cream on a bed of crunchy deliciousness with whipped cream and cherries. The place is perfect if you want to eat something delicious while enjoying conversations because it isn't the typical Old Town loud pub/restaurant. It's got a cool, somewhat funky vibe. Relaxing. Fun. ...another delicious meal with wonderful service! Thanks for all those great recommendations Marlon!

In town to visit my son and to my google surprise it recommended Royal Restaurant. Right across from the Sheraton, a grocery tore and in a walkable neighborhood making it an ideal location for locals and visitors. Antoine our server was warm, welcoming and attentive. Decor gave a cozy at home feel. Jalapeño corn bread was tasty as was the mushroom ravioli! I say go check them out!

I pretty much get shrimp & grits 80% of the time when I go to brunch, so I've eaten my fair share of S&G. When I say that these were easily one of the bestttttt s&g I've had, I'm not exaggerating. Not only did they give a generous portion of shrimp and sausage, but the combination of flavors of the Cajun seasoning, cream, and corn was just perfect. It wasn't too spicy, or heavy, or thick/thin consistency. This dish was the epitome of comfort food without the heaviness. We also got the steak and eggs and blueberry pancakes which were huge and fluffy with the XL berries. We will definitely be back. Also noticed a dog happy hour with salmon/beef dishes for the furry friends. Amazing. Catch me on the patio when it's a bit warmer out!

Went for dinner with colleagues. Very impressed with the atmosphere, service & food. We were brought a deliver egg each in the house. The striped bass dinner was amazing. Highly recommend--favorite dinner while visiting Alexandria.

SWEET & SOUR BEEF SHORT RIBS

Service is terrific! I got the short ribs dinner and it was probably top 10 meals of 2025 for me! The sauce was good and garlicky so the plain white rice was perfect with it. The Asian salad on the side was a great complement with a sweet simple dressing and a kick of red pepper flakes. I will definitely go back!!

Great menu. So close to the hotel. Reminds me of an old school breakfast house. Good music playing. Jose was fantastic. On time and extremely pleasant. Whoa!!! Holy flavor explosion! I had the Braised Pork eggs Benedict. It was one of the best I have ever had. I was skeptical! It was amazing! Well done. Jose was on point with his service and suggestions. The coffee never emptied out and needed in our drinks. He was right there every time, loved it.

This is my 1st time at Royal Restaurant, and I will say I was not disappointed. Our server José was very nice. And the ambiance was quaint. I will definitely be back. I ordered the western omelet with a side of bacon. It was very good, and home fries were seasoned very well. My girlfriends had the steak and egg, and I sampled the steak it was seasoned well and prepared like they asked. The other one has shrimp and grits, and really liked the flavor of the dish. We had a great brunch, and will definitely be back for the dinner experience.

Happy Hour Menu and Smoked Old Fashioned

Royal Restaurant is a nice surprise. Second time here. Drinks and food are very good! Happy Hour 3-7 everyday is a nice perk. Service was friendly, timely

We were excited not only for the christening, but to host a celebratory brunch after church service to embrace our friend and his growing family with love and support. That was the intention. And while we were able to do that at church, once we got to Blackwall Hitch we had one of the worst private dining experiences of our lives. After being told that the a/c was broken and would be fixed by the time the brunch began, we arrived to a hot room without air or fans and were expected to hold a brunch in that room with guests that included a baby and several elderly people. We had to convince the staff to bring fans into the room. Not only that, but we didn't get lighting in the room until an hour after the brunch began, the service form staff was poor, and the venue's event management coordinator, Stephanie Guel-Sosa was rude, dismissive, and disinterested in providing any sort of relief for the disaster her company caused. As my friend has said, his daughter and his family will only get one of these days in their lives, and Blackwall Hitch did nothing to prevent it from being intolerable. They could have caused heat exhaustion or worse. I would highly recommend avoiding this restaurant both for private events but also for casual dining. The food was fine, service was terrible, and overall it just wasn't worth the pain. How unfortunate. Jared DeWese

Especially in the winter time with the white lights lining King St outside. Tonight, we had an amazing meal prepared by Chef Tony. It was delicious too! I don't even like oysters, but I liked these. Next came the Betty's buns and beet salad. The beet salad is such an interesting preparation with ricotta, raw and cooked beets, some herbs, orange segments and pistachios. I really enjoyed the brightness of the dish. And who doesn't love a good warm bun with butter? The entrees were really beautifully plated and delicious too. The catfish was our favorite with a delicious broth, poured table-side. I've never had a bison steak before - but this one was perfectly cooked with cippolini onions, chimichurri and sweet potatoes. The plating on everything was absolutely gorgeous. And for dessert - a spongy apple cider cake and creamy chocolate cremeux. I don't even like apples, but this cake was amazing. It had beautiful accompaniments as well. And the chocolate cremeux was served with beautifully poached pears and cranberries. We loved both. Our waiter kept our water glasses full, knew all the details about the menu and was so pleasant and prompt. Absolutely love it here!!!

He truly radiates light and joy, setting the tone for the entire evening. Our server, Alison, was an absolute gem--attentive, personable, and on top of everything. The food was outstanding. We ordered the ribeye, New York steak, and filet mignon, all cooked to perfection. The Oysters Rockefeller were superb! I had asked for my daughter's meal to come out as soon as possible, and they made it happen without hesitation, which we really appreciated. For sides, we had the Brussels sprouts--perfectly balanced, sweet but not overly so--and the creamed corn, which was absolutely on point. We didn't end up ordering dessert, but the options looked amazing and tempting! Todd came by our table to check in, which added such a personal touch. The ambiance was lovely, and as we were leaving, Todd walked us outside and spent a few moments chatting with us--it truly meant a lot. I don't eat beef or pork, but after watching a review from Peaks100, I saw that the manager also recommended the seafood along with the steaks. My wife eats steak, so I took her there for that, and I planned to order seafood. Spoiler alert: my wife enjoyed her steak. Now that I got that out of the way, let me continue. https://youtu.be/5uPuX7Fk_cE?si=H7NI2vI_uMWAeREq Appetizer Octopus Ceviche -- $18 I told our server that I didn't want any pork on it. She seemed surprised and told me it didn't come with pork. I had already looked up "pancetta crumble" and knew pancetta was pork, so I showed her the menu. She then said she knew what pancetta was and would make sure there was no pork on my plate. The ceviche itself didn't have much flavor. I didn't really enjoy it, but it wasn't bad enough for me to complain or send it back. Dinner Housemade "Parkerhouse" Rolls -- $8 These came out fresh and hot with butter. They were good. No complaints. Chef's Fresh Catch -- $50 The fresh catch was grouper. The fish had some salt on it and a nice char, but the heavy cream-based sauce on the plate didn't have much flavor. Again, I didn't really enjoy it, but not enough to complain or return the dish. Jumbo Lump Crab Oscar -- $28 Wow, this was not good at all. I probably should have sent it back, but I didn't. It was tough and rubbery (see pic), almost like it had been left under the broiler too long. I took it home with me, but I honestly will probably end up throwing it away. Sides Crispy Brussels Sprouts -- $13 These were good, just like many of the other reviews mentioned. Yukon Gold Potato Purée -- $12 They were okay. Nothing to write home about. Dessert Coconut Cream Bread Pudding -- $14 It was just okay. The coconut flakes was too much, in my opinion, and eventually became overwhelming. It didn't feel very balanced. Overall, I felt the service could have been better, and most of the food needed more flavor, especially at this price point. Nothing was so terrible that I felt the need to ask for a manager, but I also didn't enjoy most of what I ordered. I ordered it, so I paid for it and kept it moving. Also, a 25% gratuity was already added to the bill. Maybe that is why the service was lacking, because they already knew they were going to get 25% "allegedly". Honestly, I don't think I'll be back. There are too many other good places in the DMV where you can have better food and a better overall experience for the same price or less.

When I asked about the discrepancy, I was told the systems sometimes differ by a few cents. The adjustment was made when I requested to pay the correct total, but the response suggested that questioning "only two cents" was unreasonable. My concern was never the amount; it was the principle. When a customer is shown one accurate total and then asked to authorize a higher one without explanation, it creates the appearance of taking money that was not part of the stated charge. If I may add my two cents as a former patron and frequent restaurant guest: trust matters in a dining experience. Even a few unexplained pennies raise a reasonable question--if this occurs repeatedly throughout the day, where do those extra cents go? A couple of cents from one guest, a few more from another, eventually add up. Transparency in billing prevents that concern. When a discrepancy is presented without a clear explanation and a patron is made to feel foolish for asking about it, it leaves a bad taste, regardless of how enjoyable the meal may have been.
