Tonight was our very first time dining at Eleni's Greek Tavern, and it absolutely will not be our last. From the moment we walked in, we felt genuinely welcomed. There was a second birthday party in full swing, yet the family who owns the restaurant greeted us with such warmth and kindness and invited us to sit wherever we felt comfortable. You can immediately tell this is a place built on heart, humility, and truly good people. The service stood out in the best way. I asked whether the Caesar dressing contained anchovies due to a pregnancy restriction, and although our server wasn't completely sure, he handled it with care and thoughtfulness. He brought the dressing on the side and offered to swap it entirely out of an abundance of caution, which meant a lot and showed how much they value their guests' comfort. And the food. Absolutely delicious. Every dish tasted fresh and authentic, and the sauces alone are worth coming back for. You can tell everything is made with intention and pride. What really makes this place special, though, is the feeling you leave with. By the end of dinner, it doesn't feel like you just ate at a restaurant. It feels like you were welcomed into a family. If you're looking for authentic Greek food, incredible hospitality, and a dining experience that feels personal and memorable, I cannot recommend Eleni's Greek Tavern enough. read more

This is my first time trying this authentic Greek restaurant located in Spring Field VA. I love their spinach pastry bakery dish. The main dish came with two sides and a salad. I could not finish the potatoes or green beans; the portions are great. The staff is nice and friendly. The place is big and a bit hidden. Inside the restaurant can use some updating. Been to this place a few times. Parking is congested in this shopping center but you'll always find a spot. Interior is pretty no frills, booth seating. The chicken souvlaki was decently flavored and cooked. The potatoes are a bit bland, but I really like the tzatziki sauce. Everything is really tangy with the lemon juice. Another time we got Lamb Kapama for dinner. I was interested in lamb shank and they said this was the lamb shank dish. I've never had it prepared like this before-- it was very tender and fell apart, but I wasn't a huge fan of the cinnamon and spice flavor of the sauce. The green beans were good, on the lemony side, and rice was just okay. Overall would come back--they have all the Greek staples and they are pretty quick with service both dine in and for carry out. read more

Alena's Taverna - "Food That Travels, Atmosphere That Needs a Passport" I stopped into Alena's Taverna while on a business trip since it was close to my hotel and I was craving some Mediterranean. The outside, set in a strip-style mall, is actually pretty charming, so I thought I was in for a cozy dining experience. Unfortunately, once inside, the atmosphere didn't match. The drop ceiling had water stains and sagging panels, the booth seating was cracked and patched, and even the bathroom felt tired. It gave off more of a "patch-and-go" vibe than a polished Mediterranean escape. Now, the food told a better story. I started with the Keftedes (Greek meatballs). Flavor-wise, they were spot on, but they'd spent a little too long on the grill, which left them tougher than I'd hoped. The warm pita bread alongside them, however, was fresh and delicious. For my main, I went with the chicken kebab. It wasn't skewered kebab-style, but rather grilled chicken pieces with peppers, onions, rice, and a Greek side salad. The chicken was tender and well-seasoned, the salad crisp and flavorful, and the portion generous enough that I even had leftovers to take back with me. Overall, I'd give the food a solid 3.5 out of 5, leaning toward the higher side for flavor and portion size. The atmosphere, however, really needs attention--it's holding the restaurant back from being a spot I'd be eager to return to. Locals seemed to know the staff well, so clearly it has its regulars. As for me, I might try another Mediterranean option nearby next time, unless they give the place the refresh it deserves. read more

Lunch at Eleni Greek Taverna - My First Greek Food Experience So today three of us went out for lunch at Eleni Greek Taverna, and this was actually our first time trying Greek food. I didn't really know what to expect, but wow everything was so fresh and flavorful! We ordered quite a lot -- Pikelia (chicken gyro pita salad) Spinach omelette with feta cheese Grilled chicken kabab with pilaf Greek Tour -- kind of like a lasagna, just creamier and richer And three soups on the side Every dish had a different taste and texture, but all of them felt really comforting. The chicken was soft and well-seasoned, the omelette had that perfect feta tang, and the Greek Tour was just melt-in-the-mouth good. We absolutely love coming to Eleni's Greek Taverna any time we visit Virginia. It's a staple of there community. The owners and staff are the best !! So friendly and they make you feel like family . The food is ridiculously good . From breakfast to dessert there isn't a single item that we got that we were ever disappointed in . The chef Vasilie is a wonder in the kitchen. The ambience is authentic Greek , the blue and white colors and painted mural make me feel as if I'm sitting in a Mediterranean tavern by the ocean . Enjoyed my first lunch at Eleni's Taverna. The interior has an old school Greek diner vibe--relaxed, clean, and comfortable booth seating. Contrary to some of the negative reviews regarding the weathered look of the place, I like it, and hope the Queens, NY Greek diner-like charm is maintained. The man who greeted us was very warm and welcoming. We ordered an omelette with fries and toast and spanakopita plate that came with a cup of lemon, orzo, and chicken soup. My wife liked how the order of toast came w a rack of four types of Smucker's jams and a little bowl of butter. A lot of diners don't do that anymore especially around these parts. The food was very traditional Greek and it was just what I was looking for. Our waiter was quick and came over several times to check on us and refill drinks. I had the grilled octopus appetizer and it tasted great. My entree was the Eleni's Greek tour and it had huge portions of moussaka and pasticcio with potatoes and spanikopita. Liked it a lot. It also came with a soup or salad and I opted for the soup since it was this lemon chicken orzo soup and it was delicious even though it was 90° weather outside. Once again wonderful friends have introduced us to an excellent Springfield restaurant! Eleni's Greek Taverna is literally a hidden gem. We had the Cheese Saganani (fried cheese) that was served flambé at the table! The cheese was served with pita. The Greek Garden side salad of course has the mandatory feta cheese, fresh and crisp greens and an herbed creamy dressing. The Mousaka [sic] was the best in the region! Eleni's Mousaka is a huge portion of this classic Greek casserole dish. As described in the menu it is made with layers of potatoes, eggplant, seasoned ground beef and topped with a creamy bechamel sauce baked to golden perfection. I'd go back for that for done in or carry out! Other dishes enjoyed by our party were the gyros platter with lots of crispy fries and a Greek omelette, both of which were devoured and obviously enjoyed! Did I mention that Eleni's serves all day breakfast? We will need to go back soon to explore more of that part of the extensive menu. The atmosphere was very family! Our waitress is the mother of Eleni's and is familiar with our friends. She was glad to see them and asked about happenings in their lives, and our friends reciprocated the conversation. Where were introduced as friends and were addressed by our first names during the meal, true to a Greek family gathering. We had an amazing time and enjoyed the white and blue themed paint surrounding the Greek decor that lent a special ambiance. Prices for these very large portions of very well made Greek food were very reasonable, making our meals a high value for the dollar. We must return to try all of our Greek favorites and Eleni's specialties! I'm sure it will become a favorite place. read more

Always love small businesses,operated by families.This place is not looks like much when you walk in,it's fairly outdated and have diners old timer feeling. People who work there are most likely relatives,so service is smooth,timely and friendly. Menu is pretty extensive and have a large all day breakfast section,which was enjoyable for one from our party. My personal favorites were spreads trio,which was customizable. My choices were eggplant salad,tzatziki and taramosalata( fish roe spread) It was really solid and pita bread was chewy and warm. Another star was octopus,grilled and seasoned divinely!! Very upscale quality,with eatery hearty size and priced under 20 dollars. Absolutely gorgeous was chicken entree,it was deboned half chicken,slightly pressed and roasted to perfection. Realized my previous review was six years old & wanted to make sure folks know I still think this place is awesome! My favorite meals are the Greek burger and the chicken with vodka sauce. I have brought several friends here for different reasons and at different time of the year & day but every visit has been enjoyed. They have multiple enjoyable appetizers. The staff has grown so while you don't always get the family I have always gotten good service. This is one of my favorite places for a relaxed meal. The breakfast foods are available all day long so if looking for that option also a good reason to keep Eleni's on your radar. If you have larger group, keep Eleni's on your radar. There are multiple food options from breakfast, to burgers (not just Greek but I think those are delicious) to pastas, to gyros, to salads, to Greek specials. There are just so many delicious options & there are of course good appetizers (& dessert). If you haven't been, give it a try. My husband and I both got a gyro, nothing out of the ordinary or spectacular. The tzatziki sauce lacked flavor which makes a big part of the classic gyro flavor itself. My husband got French fries which were hand cut and piled high! Delicious and crispy! I had the Greek potatoes and they were perfectly done! Our waiter (I don't know his name but the receipt said Rio) THIS young man knows how to run a business. He was the host, busboy, waiter, answered the calls. EVERYTHING! We ordered two dishes to be picked up. I specifically stated that there shouldn't be raw onions in the dishes. When I got home, one of the meals had raw onions! I'm allergic to them. Nice waiters each time. But, the food is average. The tables aren't clean -- it feels like they just quickly go over them & not CLEAN them. The entire restaurant majorly needs a renovation. It looks and feels old & dirty. There's a point when the owners need to do their job and upgrade. We have visited 3-4 times over the last several years. Our last visit, last week, was a hot June day. We had a delicious dinner last night at Eleni's. I'm surprised the place isn't packed. We love authentic Greek cuisine especially seafood. And they do it very well. As an example last night my wife has the grilled Halibut filet. Simple, moist, flavorful, delicious. And a huge thick portion. The filet alone would have cost $40 at Costco, yet with a salad, Greek potatoes and sauted green beans, $43!!! Fantastic. I had whole grilled Branzino. I love whole grilled fish. With the head. Simple. The fish was scored, skin charred and crisp, the fish moist and flaked of the bone. Perfect. Same potatoes and green beans. I had their Greek salad with anchovies added. Another deal, $34!! Add fresh lemon. Thats it. We were in heaven. We ordered there mezze. Assorted appetizers. It's huge. I ordered a half order of their taramosalata. The best I've had. Not the jarred stuff you by in the store.. they make it there..I'd come and buy that for home too. We took half home plus half the halibut entre. Its another dinner. read more

I found this restaurant simply by searching Yelp. The previous posts are on point. My husband and I went there for lunch during the week. The place is huge and wasn't busy although steady. The caesar salad was delicious and husband enjoyed his burger and fries. The service was so warm and quick, it's worth the drive to go back and try one of the many items on the menu. Eleni's is a hidden treasure. If you like Greek food served in a casual, welcoming and friendly environment, this is the place. Tonight was my second visit and it was just as good as the first. It's family owned and managed. Both times Eleni, the owner, was also my server and both times, she made me feel at right at home. I had a Greek dinner both times I was there, but the menu says breakfast is served all day long. So, next time I'm craving breakfast for dinner, I'm heading right over to Eleni's.
