I was finally to make a visit which is located in a strip mall with other businesses such as Giant Foods, Starbucks, Jersey Mikes and Squisito Pizza. As you walked in, the small restaurant is clean, limited seating but manageable and you can order two ways: At counter or Kiosk. Once you place your order, they will call you for pick up. Each entrees comes with rice, flat bread and one side. I ordered 5 items: 1) Chicken Breast Kabob (F1); 2) Kofta 3) Mantu 4) Beef Kabob (F15); 5) Side Spinach. Both kabob platters are a good size, with 2 long flat breads and two different sauces. The chicken was tender and juicy but unfortunately the beef was chewy and a little tough. They both had good flavor, the rice was fluffy and for my perfect bite, I build mine with the flat bread which consist of protein, chickpeas, spinach, slice onion and green sauce. The spinach was delicious along with the Kofta which is a grind up meat that's form into a meatball, added with herbs and served in variety of sauces. For this particular dish, it is serve with a tomato base they incorporate with the meatballs well. The mantu looked promising but it was okay. The mantu was wrap in a light dough and stuffed with little meat. The flavors were a little too subtle, layers on top of a garlic yogurt base (chaka) and the filling was bland and garnish with lentils. The kofta had better flavors with well seasoned combination. I also ordered the mango lassi which was thick and heavy. It was tasty but the paper straw made it dried. The cashier Khalil was friendly and knowledgeable. Overall it's a good place to check out.

Great spices and flavors in the rice, chicken, and ground beef. Bread was moist and chewy, but chic peas tasted average. Portions were somewhat small for the price. Restaurant is clean, and indoor seating seemed a little tight; but comfortable outdoor seating was available, too. Tap water was surprisingly served in a carafe - hardly see that in a casual food restaurant. Service was very friendly and fast.

Great service and delicious food! My wife and I really enjoyed our meals. Must try spot!

This is 60% of the total sandwich size.

We had an excellent carry out chicken kabob on pita. Add the fresh lime and sauces and it was delicious.

Got a combo of chicken kabob and shami kabob along with a side of their borani banjan/eggplant dish. The eggplant was honestly one of my favorite things- it's a must get in my opinion. Homey dish with incredible flavors! Their naan is fresh and pairs well with it. The chicken was good, but I've had better honestly. The shami was a little disappointing as I expected more flavor and it was slightly dry, but good. Their rice was so tasty and I loved the sweetness coming from the carrots an raisins. Of course, the sheeryakh was great- quite a big portion for one person, but I loved the texture. It tastes very similar to the Indian/South Asian/Pakistani ice cream, "Kulfi." CONSTRUCTIVE FEEDBACK: Service needs improvement. The whole time I was there I had to keep looking for waiters to make eye contact with to ask for menu, water, paying, etc. It took about 10 min or more for me to have to call a busy waiter over just to look at the menu- no one came over on their own. Things just took time for a Saturday night- plus they were hosting an event on top of this. Needless to say, I've never had service like this, but the vibe and food made me be not as harsh. Despite the service, this place is a must try for authentic Afghan cuisine. Can't wait to try more of their menu (and the borani banjan again) in the future!

There are several reasons why I would choose this restaurant again for my wedding: 1. Food quality was amazing. Both our Iranian and American guests raved about the food, saying it was the best food they have had at a wedding. The meat was tender and juicy and the rice was delicious without being oily, which is very hard to do. Our guests went for seconds and thirds and majority of the food was finished even though we ordered extra! Even my mom, who is a very harsh judge of Persian food, loved it. 2. Service was excellent. Wedding planning is a really stressful process, so choosing a caterer is really important. Coordination with Mr. Sanaei was very smooth. He gave us his personal phone number and texted us everything we needed within hours (including COI and business license). The business is very organized. The delivery was on-time, and all the food arrived well-packed. 3. Most importantly, the staff at the actual restaurant is just really kind. I initially just went for a meal and after being treated with such kindness, I decided to use them for catering. Honestly, I get a feeling that the staff are more like my cousins. The ability to run an efficient and organized business, while still giving us a homy/comforting feeling is what makes this Maman Joon so special! 4. Price is great! I got a quote from several Persian restaurants in the DMV area (and even other Maman Joon branches) and this was lower for the exact same meals. Overall, I highly recommend Maman Joon at McLean as both a restaurant and catering!

The cashier was super nice as well and gave me some baklava on the house! I called in my order and it was ready within 10 minutes. Super convenient, tasty and worth the price. I didn't even get a chance to take a before picture because my family started devouring it straight away. The meat was very tender and I loved their hummus. It was super smooth and garlicky. Everything was cooked to perfection and I will definitely be coming back!

The restaurant looks like a cozy hole-in-the-wall restaurant, so it was a very casual atmosphere. I ordered a Guatemalan-Style Chicken Tamal and a Chicken Pupusa with a Fruit Juice Drink (Ensalada de Fruta). The Fruit Juice Drink was full of cubed apples and was on the sweeter side, but it was refreshing for sure. Now onto the food... Guatemalan Chicken Tamal - This has to be one of the best tamals I have ever had! I am used to the Mexican tamales that are on the dryer side, but their tamal masa was gelatinous almost like a custard, and there were big pieces of chicken meat inside. And the plus side is that the chicken was 99% meat and 1% fat! They did not skimp on the meat in this one. Chicken Pupusa - I am used to greasy pupusas, but their pupusa was significantly less greasy, and that is a HUGE plus. Also, these pupusas were less than $5.00 each and came with a huge side of cabbage. The cheese-to-meat ratio inside was also pretty decent; I would say 60% cheese, 40% meat. My husband absolutely loved all the pupusas he ordered and even bought some to take home to our family. We were served by one of the owners who was very sweet and spoke to my husband in Spanish and me in English; this means a lot to me because in other places, I tend to be ignored while they speak Spanish to just my husband. When we are back in Virginia, this will be one of our go-to spots for Salvadorean food. We are used to pupusas being over $5, but these pupusas were less greasy AND much more affordable.

The lady working there knew it was going to be busy (especially with Ramadan ending), yet she was constantly on the phone and not attentive. Even simple questions like "What do you recommend?" were met with poor service. The food itself is good, I can't complain about that. However, the portions for the price are not worth it. On top of that, the ice cream area was completely unsanitary. I had already paid, and it was very difficult to get a refund. I had to wait more than 15 minutes for someone to assist me, while a man who seemed like the owner or manager was yelling in the kitchen. I decided to order based on previous reviews, but my experience was nothing like that. While serving my ice cream, some of it fell onto the counter, and instead of discarding it, he picked it up with his hand ( with a glove) and put it back in the cup. That was unacceptable. The pistachio topping was left completely open on the counter, right next to where people were passing by in line. I was given just a small portion (maybe 8-10 oz) with a spoon of pistachio for $12--not worth it at all. Overall, not worth the visit.
