Pita with whipped feta/red pepper spread

Stellar food! Even the simple stuff, like warm pita, is superb. And don't get me started on their swordfish! Bright vibe, even live music on Sunday evening! Love it!

Aegean Branzino Filet

Located on shirlington strip, right across from taco Bamba. Parking was dreadful. Took a while to find free parking, but they do have "pay to park" in the area. Food was absolutely amazing. I highly recommend the branzino. One of the expensive dishes, but it was to die for! Great flavor, not intense, and a good amount of portions. I'm not huge on eating vegetables, but wow, I honestly devoured them all before attempting the branzino. The service was perfect. I did not catch our waitress's name but she was absolutely divine. Great personality, friendly energy, great makeup skills, and very patient with us. If you see her working, definitely try to get her as your waitress! Ambiance was more like "bougie casual". Music was not loud and just the atmosphere in general was nice. (Came in for lunch)

You go to Eugenia for the lamb chops. Service is surprisingly fast and friendly. The restaurant has a Greek theme and ambiance. The saganaki was a disappointment. The cheese did not melt sufficiently and it tasted like cardboard. This restaurant can have very long waits so plan accordingly. Overall, you receive a good meal.

Lamb chops with chicken (not impressed with the plain ole flavorless potatoes)

Really hate to report that as much as I have loved Eugenia the past few years, their food and service is sliding. Took friends here twice in the last two months and the hummus is a dry lump of flavorless I don't know what really and the lamb dish which is $$ is really lacking in flavor. And every time I go, I'm looking forward to traditional Greek potatoes - creamy inside with crisp lemon on outside but sadly disappointed each time. The watermelon and feta salad was the bright spot. The server on the last trip showed no interest when we commented on the repeat hummus fail...just casual indifference before moving on. I'm sorry but I'm going to think twice before returning

Nice spanikopita but it was cold inside. They took it back and tried again.

Very nice greek restaurant with a menu that can be a bit overwhelming. You can have a feast here and spend a lot of money, but portions are big so if you order judiciously you can have a very nice meal on just a couple of appetizers. Old standards like moussaka, spanikopita, saganaki, and spreads like skordaliá and taramosalata are done well here but can add up. Tell them when you sit down not to bring the bread until the appetizers arrive. It's best hot and you'll probably want it with your food. Service is excellent, so if anything is off, you should let them know and they'll fix it. For salads, make sure you tell them to go light on the dressing.

Melitzanosalata

If your mom cooks like this, you better count your blessings for this lip-smacking experience! The staff that greeted me at the entrance mentioned that they do take reservations for Friday and Saturday nights because they are quite busy. So, I sat at the bar. I was welcomed by the bartender and was given two menus. I looked over the menus quickly and asked for a Tito's and Sprite to start. The bartender was busy, so a gentleman, who seemed to be the owner, asked me if I was ready. I told him yes and that it was my first time there. I also asked him if I could order their Melitzanosalata and Paidakia Appetizer (Lamb Chops). Which he helped me to pronounce correctly. Neither one have I tried before. The Melitzanosalata was tasty, and as a reminder, if you don't eat all the bread, save it. You will need it for your main course or in my case, their meat appetizer. Now that item Paidakia Appetizer (Lamb Chops), was Omg mind-blowingly delicious. The flavor, taste, juiciness and the ability to actually hit Medium on this kind of meat was on point!!! Their asparagus was not some flimsy style that you see in restaurants of lower caliber. It was the big, thick kind that was nicely prepared and you could crunch into it. Just the appropriate level of seasoning to bring out the flavor of the meat. A little extra broth allowed me to put that extra bread to use. Wiped the plate clean! Highly recommend this item for the ladies or for anyone that is not trying to take the whole lamb, their main entree, in one sitting. Bariatric foodies will enjoy this as well. From wine, to delicious libations, this is definitely a place to come and just enjoy delicious food, conversation and fellowship with this you know and those you don't know. From the hostesses, to the servers, to the crew that provides water and takes your plates, it shows the attention to detail shines through that the owners are thinking about the customer. Positives I loved that the owner / or manager was consistently walking around and checking in the guests to ensure everything was ok. This restaurant was one of the tastiest and best money I have spent in a very long time! Kudos to the owner! I will be back with friends! And a Note for visitors, there is No cost to park in the parking garage around the corner. Parking on the street outside of the restaurant is nonexistent due to all the other restaurants that are there. Parking is like a two minute walk. The bar and restaurant does not have TV's which was pleasantly surprising which provides guests an opening to experience the food and conversation without the distraction of a tv. Quick Notes for the manager / owner. I was not provided a run down of the daily specials or drinks, that I noted, the bartender did provide to other customers after me. I was not sure if there were desserts to partake of because it was not mentioned either. I was full so I didn't ask, but would have liked to see the options for desserts because my friends can put some food away, including desserts. The bartender, when I asked for the check, ended up giving me two postcards. One for the check and one when I cashed out. I'm not sure if that was normal because this could impact the owners overhead costs. Other than that, I so appreciated my time at this restaurant.

Saganaki

This place is so good and has so many good Greek options! For the meal, my friends and I shared a bunch of items. We got the flaming cheese, spanakopita, zucchini fritters, three spreads (eggplant one is our favorite), steak skewers and grilled octopus. Everything was wonderful! The service was great and quick! We had to catch a show and received everything with plenty of time to go somewhere else before our show. The ambiance is great. There is a blue and white theme to the whole place. You can still hear your friends and are well spaced out from other tables. Definitely come here if you're a fan of Greek food!!

Make a reservation! Very cute and trendy decor with friendly and attentive service. Order the saganaki! Block of cheese coated with brandy and put a flame. The grilled octopus is so fresh and flavorful, I would order 2 as my entree next time. The pita is made fresh so it may take a bit to come out, but you must have it with their tzatziki. The lamb burger was very flavorful with very well seasoned thick cut fries. The grilled platter was the star with the lamb chop. So tender and not at all gamey. It also has filet and chicken but the lamb was the best. Wish we had room for dessert! Next time!

Beer

I absolutely love the inside decorations. It was a really beautiful Greek classy summer outdoor vibe. My group got drinks and appetizers and everyone loved what they got! I tried one of the beers on the menu and was really pleasantly surprised at how good it was. I also got the fava appetizer, which is pretty similar to hummus but slightly different. I was happy with how much I got, but I will note that some of the entrées at the table were on the relatively small size, especially for the price. Just make sure that you know that this restaurant is a bit more on the expensive end, but you are getting that price back in the ambience and vibe. All of the staff were really helpful in creating a table big enough for our party and they made sure we were taken care of the whole time.

The potato definitely had the effects of sitting around for hours taste (or maybe made the day before

Ask the Community - Our Mom Eugenia - Shirlington

Is this place family friendly? My husband and I really want to try it, but don't want to ruin a calm, mostly adult atmosphere by bringing our baby along if that is the case.

It wouldn't ruin anything. It's more "adult" around the bar on the right. But you could take a table on the left side and be fine. It's a small restaurant, but I don't think you'd have any issues. And there's also an outdoor seating area which is… Read more

This was in a shopping center so we didn't have any issues with parking. Everyone was so friendly when we walked in and even with it being busy, service was fairly quick. Cute decor inside. We started off with a couple of sangrias, the red one was really good. We ordered the Spread Sampler, the Double Cooked Octopus, and thr Grilled Sucuk. The spread was delicious and came with warm pita breads, we were also able to order more when we ran out. I definitely recommend getting the Sampler to try the different spreads as all of them were amazing. The octopus was incredibly tender and flavor as was the Sucuk. I wish we were hungrier when we came but we had a great time and would definitely be back to try the rest of the menu.

Decorated in clean blue and white colors, Smyrna has an appealing feel. Smyrna also has a rear patio open during good weather. We were started out with very decent complimentary warm pita bread. For my first (starter) course, I ordered the chicken avgolemono soup. While the soup was packed with tender chicken, I was disappointed that the soup didn't really have much of a tart, lemony flavor. It actually was bland. But what more than made up for the avgolemono soup was the beef Keftdedes I chose for my second course. This dish came with absolutely the best tomato-based sauce I've ever had anywhere anytime! Delicious and fabulous!! The beef keftdedes were plump ground beef patties served over little squares of pita bread and topped with the tomato sauce and also a yogurt sauce. JP ordered the Imam Bayildi, which was good. It came with roasted eggplant, diced tomatoes and diced onions. For our third course (dessert), I ordered the Revani, which was a moist dense semolina cake topped with ice cream and chocolate shavings. Outstanding flavor and texture. Perfect! JP ordered the walnut baklava which was excellent. Service was friendly and fine. Other than the avgolemono soup, this was indeed a five star dining experience.

There was a second birthday party in full swing, yet the family who owns the restaurant greeted us with such warmth and kindness and invited us to sit wherever we felt comfortable. You can immediately tell this is a place built on heart, humility, and truly good people. The service stood out in the best way. I asked whether the Caesar dressing contained anchovies due to a pregnancy restriction, and although our server wasn't completely sure, he handled it with care and thoughtfulness. He brought the dressing on the side and offered to swap it entirely out of an abundance of caution, which meant a lot and showed how much they value their guests' comfort. And the food. Absolutely delicious. Every dish tasted fresh and authentic, and the sauces alone are worth coming back for. You can tell everything is made with intention and pride. What really makes this place special, though, is the feeling you leave with. By the end of dinner, it doesn't feel like you just ate at a restaurant. It feels like you were welcomed into a family. If you're looking for authentic Greek food, incredible hospitality, and a dining experience that feels personal and memorable, I cannot recommend Eleni's Greek Tavern enough.

The octopus was served with a lovely, what I believe to be, lemony hummus. The Bronzino was excellent. The seafood souvlaki special was very good. It was served with rice and Greek style green beans.
