Friday night dinner at IHOP--can it get any more festive than that? I think not! We had my breakfast-loving dad in tow, and whenever he can get breakfast for dinner, he's all in. So, we decided to try the new IHOP in Manawa. When we arrived around 5 PM, there wasn't much of a crowd, just a few tables with customers. We did have to wait a couple of minutes to be seated, but no big deal. Once seated, we were greeted by our server, who, bless her heart, had the worst case of hiccups. She could not get rid of them no matter how hard she tried and had to chat with us through the whole thing. She had already worked a full shift earlier in the day, so honestly, she deserves a medal for keeping it together! The restaurant itself had a clean and inviting atmosphere with cheerful pastel-colored chairs, which definitely added to the light, fun vibe. It was fresh, bright, and a pleasant place to enjoy a casual meal. We ordered drinks (coffee, iced tea, and a Diet Pepsi for me...(living on the wild side) and started looking over the menu. It had been literal YEARS since I've set foot in an IHOP, and I couldn't remember why! I was trying to pick something, but, as usual, I ended up second-guessing myself. My dad got the classic breakfast platter of eggs, bacon, and sausage. My husband went with the steak omelette, and I picked the House Scramble from the House Faves section because it seemed like a smaller portion, and I wasn't that hungry. It was a bacon, egg, and cheese scramble with hashbrowns. My husband promised I could try some of his pancakes when they came out, so I opted to skip the pancake route (WHY can't I just stick to my first choice?!). The food came out. My dad wasn't super impressed. He ate it but said he wouldn't want to return. He did, however, enjoy the coffee. My husband had no complaints about his steak omelette. He said it was hearty and filling. My scramble looked fine, and the hashbrowns were cooked crispy just as I ordered. But when I cut into the scramble, the cheese and eggs were mushy, grainy, and a bit gritty. I couldn't eat it. My husband tried it and said it was fine, but I wasn't having it. He ended up taking it home and finishing it the next day. I did enjoy the hashbrowns and half a pancake, though. That pancake was so good--light, fluffy, hot, and slightly vanilla-flavored. Everything I love in a pancake! If I ever go back, I'll definitely be sticking with pancakes. After all, it is in the name, right? Overall, it was a decent experience with friendly staff, a clean atmosphere, and cheerful decor. If I return, I'll keep it simple and just order the pancakes!

    Keeping the place clean

This was my first time at an IHOP and I was let down. To start off, the chocolate milk, you could not really taste the chocolate so it may as well of been white milk. I ordered a French toast and just like previous yelp reviews it was room temp and just bad until I added syrup Next up the service, we sat and sat for over an hour watching people get their food before us. Overall the workers just looked like they didn't care about us. The ambiance actually wasn't half bad. The music was very peaceful; I went to the bathroom and was surprised with a very nice and cozy bathroom. It was a little hard to find but once I did I was not let down.

One of my friends has been here with his co-workers a few times but I haven't been here before. (Maybe one time many many years ago that I don't remember....) We walk in on a Monday night and there were a few people there. It's a small place so I'm glad we were able to get a table. When we sat down, the bartender, (waitress as well), came right over and took our drink orders and eventually our food orders. I wanted to try their renowned broasted chicken. (A device essentially uses pressure cooking and light frying to create a thin crispy skin and juicy interior). The chicken was some of the best 'fried' chicken that I've ever had, seriously. Super crispy skin and juice inside. Reminds me a little of Korean fried chicken. The texas toast was yummy, the cole slaw was creamy (if you like creamy slaw), and the crispy tots were crispy delicious. My friend got a broasted chicken sammich and he loved it too. (High praise coming from him.) My friends and I have been wanting to go back and get more broasted chicken since we left. On Fridays, they have a 4 piece special for $13.99 that I'll have to take advantage of soon. All in all, this little bar/restaurant has some amazing food that I just didn't expect after driving and running past it for years. Can't wait to go back.

The woman working behind the bar who helped me was incredibly courteous and friendly, which I really appreciated. While I was waiting, I saw several tenderloin sandwiches being served to dine-in customers, and they looked absolutely amazing. Unfortunately, our food was only average. We ordered the chicken fried chicken and the nachos. The homemade tortilla chips had good flavor, but they were extremely greasy. The biggest disappointment was that part of our takeout order was missing. That's partly on me for not checking before I left, but it was still frustrating. Overall, the combination of the long wait, average food, and incomplete order left us with a disappointing experience. I just didn't get a good feeling from the place, and based on this visit, I wouldn't recommend it to a friend.

We were seated right away, and it was a perfect day to sit outside. The hostess let us know they had workers outside, but we were totally okay with the noise, which ended up being very minimal. We didn't order any drinks, but for food, I decided to try the birria grilled cheese, which comes with one side, and I chose fries. Not only did it look so appetizing, but it tasted AMAZING. The bread had some sort of seasoning on it that added so much flavor to the sandwich. The fries were seasoned exceptionally well too. I'll definitely be back sometime soon to try more items. The food today was 10/10, and our waitress was very kind and attentive as well.

I had the Cubano sandwich, which was good overall, especially the smoky meat, but I think the coarse-ground mustard overpowered the flavours a bit and dulled the smokiness a bit. A plain yellow mustard might balance the sandwich better and let the smokiness shine through more. The sweet potato fries, however, were excellent. My wife Laura ordered Emily's Salad, which was pleasant and fresh, though we both thought it could have benefited from a little crunch--maybe some seeds or nuts added in. Our daughter Alex had the birria tacos and carne asada fries. The tacos were tasty, though a little on the small side, but the carne asada fries were fantastic. Umai! (I am a Rengoku fan; if you know, you know.) I highly recommend it. Our other daughter, Sam, ordered the birria grilled cheese and elote fries, and both were really good. Her cherryade was especially refreshing. The atmosphere was quiet and relaxed, though the dining area and patio felt a bit bare. A few plants outside and inside would really warm the place up and give it more character. The music was pretty good with indie hits in there. I also tried the Old Fashioned. It was definitely strong, which I appreciated, but it felt like it was missing a touch of sweetness or something to round it out. Overall, we enjoyed ourselves, and I'd absolutely go back and try more on the menu. Their waitstaff was top-notch and really were on their game. The restaurant has good ingredients and solid ideas--it just feels like a few flavour balances could be dialed in a little more.

I had a free afternoon and for some reason when I check yelp, a couple spots in Council Bluffs, IA show up. I check around and they look fine, elevated bar/comfort food that could be from Anywhere, USA. Pork tenderloin seems to be the move with something fried on the side. LPL's really stuck out for a few reason - massive tenderloin sandwich and a super Midwest feel from the pics. Coming from Omaha, LPL's is about 15 minutes from downtown, but everything is 15-30 minutes it seems no matter where you go so might as well check out a new state. This restaurant is as middle of nowhere in the middle of nowhere as it gets. Nondescript building with just a few windows on the side of what seems like a main road for the area. I'm fairly certain there has not ever been an Asian and/or Hispanic person set foot in here, but hey, I was looking for a hearty and authentic meal and that's what I got. Felt like Joe and Marisa showing up in Alabama. I walked in and could feel the eyes on me immediately and went straight to an open bar stool. The place was pretty packed for a random Monday at 1pm. Everyone seems like regular locals. Server/bartender came up and handed me a menu and I ordered a Yuengling. I already knew what I wanted - pork tenderloin deluxe with some cheese curds. Very reasonable and necessary up charges for both. Now, when people exaggerate and say, "so and so was bigger than my face" I brush it aside, BUT this pork tenderloin was much bigger than my face and is comically large. They actually gave me a to go box to cut some of it up and set aside for maneuverability. I won't say it was seasoned well but the bonus points for size outweighs all. I cut and stacked with mayo and veggies to eat and it was very delicious. Crunchy and juicy with fresh veggies and needed richness from mayo. I was on my 3rd day of curds and ranch, no complaints there other than from my doctor I'm sure. I suppose I can recommend this place... it was just an odd experience of being so out of place for me but the staff was friendly and food was good making this a good place to check out. I would say it's one-of-a-kind spot but I have no idea what the rest of the Midwest is like. It's really in the middle of nowhere and getting an uber back to Omaha took a whopping 17 minutes. I, of course, appreciate anyone that reads my long reviews of random restaurants. I have no idea who is reading this review in NE or IA. $25 for a massive sandwich and 2 beers is the deal if the century. Way off the beaten path but may be worth a visit if you are visiting Omaha and what a different experience.
