Chicken fried steak skillet
A S.

I've heard their breakfast was tasty and decided to give it a try ! I got the chicken fried steak skillet and a Bloody Mary. My skillet was delicious! It hit the spot. My drink was great too. The bartender was extremely nice and friendly. I sat at the bar and the service was quick and friendly. Definitely was a busy morning, the place was full and buzzing. It's a smaller place but the place was clean and tightly. Really enjoyed my experience.

Great Customer service and a very cute space. Food was great, typical bar food. Jalapeno cheese balls were amazing.. Thank you Patricia for being an amazing waitress and bartender...

Friday special chicken sandwich & the 4 piece chicken with slaw and mashed potatoes‍

Awesome customer service. The host/waiter is super friendly and welcoming, makes you feel like you're at home!! The food is finger licking good! The fried chicken is perfectly cooked and so juicy. The sides pair so well with the chicken you'll never want to eat chicken anywhere else. The friday chicken sandwich special was also amazing and came highly recommended and it didn't disappoint! Clutch chicken for sure. I would definitely eat here again.

Chicken Philly Sandwich (no bun)

I have eaten here/done take out several times and have always been happy with the food. I've tried the burgers, sliders, tacos, philly, fries, onion rings and chicken strips. I recently had the chicken philly without a bun and it was very good. It's above average bar food in my opinion. I would like to try breakfast sometime because their specials always look awesome.

While traveling back to Chicago from a Denver our overnight stay was in Council Bluffs. We were set to arrive at the dinner hour. Being totally unfamiliar with the area, I looked to Yelp for suggestions. 3rd Base had really good reviews so we headed there. Upon our arrival we were surprised to find it in a small ranch home style building in a residential area. We figured, why not? What a pleasant surprise. The place reminded me of the family "shot and a beer" place with great food. The gal waiting on us couldn't be friendlier and the food was awesome. We had the ribeye sandwich with grilled onions, mushrooms and plenty of melted Swiss cheese. I took off the top piece of bread as I felt it unnecessary. The steak was perfect with great flavor. The hand made onion rings were quite good too. Our server suggested their special sauce for dipping and I'm glad we did. If you're looking for some place fancy, this isn't it. If you're looking for a really good meal in a family like atmosphere, this is it! We even got a beer coozie to take home. Thank you 3rd Base for a nice dinner!

Nice and clean establishment with good food.

My husband and I were hungry for a good burger and a beer. We read they had the best burgers in Council Bluffs. This was our first time here. I had a mushroom swiss with onion rings. My husbans hsd the Bbq bacon burger. The mushroom swiss was very good. Fresh mushrooms. Loved that. The bacon burger had several slices of bacon. Burgers were juicy and flavorful. The fries were ok. A little too done as well as the rings. The kicker sauce is really good as was the cheese sauce. Very helpful and friendly server. Super clean and fresh. We enjoyed or food and the atmosphere was great. Will be back to try other menu items soon.

Happy Hour Mushroom and Swiss and tators for $5!!!

This was our first experience here. We stopped by for lunch on Sunday afternoon and we were the only patrons there. I got the hangover special, which was hash browns, biscuit, gravy, two eggs, and four strips of bacon. All for $6! It was greasy goodness. The biscuits looked homemade. The gravy was seasoned well, and the strips of bacon were thick-cut. The service was prompt and friendly, but again we were the only two in the place. They have a really nice set up with TVs if you want to watch a sporting event. They also have darts. They have happy hour Mondays-Fridays 3-6 where you can get a burger or sandwich and fries for $5! We will definitely be back!

Pretty good dive bar went on a Wednesday service was fast, food was hot. Got garlic Parmesan wings with cheese curds, curds were awesome garlic parm sauce was ok would try Asian or probably one of the sweeter sauces maybe house sauce. Great prices and the place seemed very very clean! Will be back again as it is local to me and I get a cheese curd tooth every now and then haha. Cook came out to ask if food was good and that was awesome that's never happened to me before that I know of.

Here's the menu!

Upon walking in, we saw the place looked clean and comfortable. We went up to the counter to order, but weren't sure what to get. The person in front of us finished his order and we were instantly tickled to see how they send the order to the kitchen. We asked the person behind the counter what was good, as we were visiting from California and had never been there before. He was great at explaining the menu and giving suggestions. Very friendly. We settled on sharing a swamp donkey burger, fries and a side of Cole slaw. We watched our order whiz away to the kitchen and went to get our drinks. We found a good table, sat down and talked for a few minutes. Before long our order had arrived. The person that brought it over asked if we needed anything else. , and we asked for an extra plate and a fork and knife. He quickly brought it all over, and we felt silly because we didn't see utensils were right next to the drink machine, and we should have gotten them ourselves. I apologized for missing it, but he was so polite and friendly and seemed like it was no big deal. We cut the burger in half, I started on the cold slaw (delicious), and then got to it. The burger was amazing. It was big, perfectly done, and completely hit the spot. The fries were also great. We didn't have long before we gad to get back to the hotel to get ready for the flight, and having already paid at the beginning, it was quick and easy heading out. I don't know if/when we will be back to Council Bluffs, but if we are, we will be back 100% for sure. Highly recommend!

Hopes were decent, vibes were good, and hydration? Covered--with water. Only water. We were seated quickly (shoutout to the light crowd), and our server came by to ask if we wanted appetizers... before even offering drinks. Bit of an odd move--it felt like skipping the handshake and going straight for the hug. I'd already clocked the self-serve Coke Zero station (bless whoever added that), so I figured I'd grab one later. We ordered mozzarella sticks, potato skins, and garlic parm wings. The server disappeared before we could order drinks. When she returned with the apps, she vanished again without checking in. We had to flag down another server for plates--and someone managed to snag a tea while we were at it. Eventually, we got to place drink orders. They came out slowly, but once we had them, refills flowed freely. For mains, we ordered: 1 Prairie Flower Burger 1 Steak Salad 3 Meatloaf Dinners 1 Pot Roast in a Bread Bowl (my pick!) 2 NY Strips My pot roast came in a cute little bread bowl with gouda mashed potatoes--small but tasty. The burger looked fantastic, and I'm going back to try it. The meatloaf had a herby twist but was well-liked. The steak salad, however, missed the mark--cold steak, despite being asked how it should be cooked. The NY strip steaks were inconsistently cooked, and the baked potatoes came plain--no butter, no sour cream--just lonely spuds. You have to ask for toppings. Good to know for next time. Now for the plot twist: we waited 90 minutes for our food. We watched every other table get served before and after us while we sat and sipped our drinks. Our server was apologetic, and we made the best of it with good conversation. But dessert? Total redemption. Chocolate cake (solid) Berry compote cheesecake (delicious) Pettit's Donut Bread Pudding (absolute game changer) That bread pudding stole the show. I'd come back for that alone. And here's the best part: management comped the entire meal--without us asking. We were told half-off, but they covered it all to compensate for the delays. That kind of service? Huge win in my book. Will I return? Definitely. I live nearby, I love a good Coke Zero on tap, and I'm rooting for Sky Bar to smooth out the bumps. Final Verdict: A few stumbles, but solid effort, great desserts, and top-tier customer service.

Unfortunately, Home Team Cookout will not be a place we'll be adding to the list. We first visited Home Team Cookout when they had just newly opened, and things were very odd (they had a salad bar from taking over from the Ruby Tuesday days). They didn't have buns for the hotdog my husband ordered and my Mac and Cheese was runny and gross. We decided to try them again recently to see if the opening day jitters had passed and they had things a little more in order after being open a while. It definitely was more "lived in" and had a homey atmosphere, like a corner bar type vibe. Our server was great and checked on us multiple times throughout the meal, so no complaints there. I ordered the meatloaf with a side of Mac and Cheese. The Mac and Cheese was still a little runny, but better than our first visit. The issue with it though was that it arrived with a hair right on top. I didn't even notice, but luckily my husband did before I took a bite. (There was also a hair inside the laminated menu, so I just am a little skeeved out entirely now about going back). My husband got the Oversize Tenderloin Sandwich, and that was actually pretty tasty. Crispy tenderloin, lots of mayo, and plenty of pickles. He shared with me after I was sort of picking at my meal after the hair debacle. Even with the great service and lived in/warm feel, I think Home Team Cookout will be a pass from me in the future, unfortunately.
