Had lunch here during the Thanksgiving weekend. We started with an appetizer of fried clam strips. They were really good, perfectly fried and a good size. They go well with their romalade sauce. We got the lunch special which is fried shrimp, cole slaw, and a side. All of this for $10.50. The shrimp was fried nicely and was tasty. You get seven shrimp with the lunch special. Our waitress was great and all our food arrived quickly. A good lunch experience. read more

We came for dinner on a weeknight, and it was fantastic. We were seated quicky and our sever was friendly and attentive. I had to order the shrimp since that's what they brag about in their radio commercials! I was not disappointed! I got the shrimp 2 ways. They split the shrimp preparing them buffalo style and coconut. The buffalo was very well flavored, and it had a little kick, but they didn't make it too hot! The coconut shrimp was cooked perfectly and was not oily at all. I got a side order of broccoli which was fresh and well cooked. I also ordered a side of onion rings, and they were very good, the only thing is the batter was more like a type you find on their fried shrimp, kind of like calamari batter. They were still very good, but I expected more of a breadcrumb style. My buddy ordered the steak, and he said it was cooked perfectly and he was very happy with it. I was so full, I couldn't fit the free ice-cream from the soft serve bar!! You will be very happy eating here! read more

Spent all week with my wife in Jekyll Island where food and good service apparently goes to die. We decided to go to St. Simon's Island and dined for lunch at Iguana's. Good food and our waitress destiny was really kind and attentive! However, when we first walked in there were two greeters and one was not so friendly. She was really rude, no good customer service. Her name was schanzi, not sure how to spell it. She said we can sit wherever we wanted outside. After not being asked for drinks or been greeted by a waitress for a good 15 mins, i walk up and ask why we haven't been helped yet. The one that wasn't friendly said i never sat you. I said yes you did, i specifically said two people and a dog. She also walked us to the table with menus and silverware. She gave me the nastiest look and literally lied straight to my face. I would like to give this restaurant a better rating but I've been back several times and nothing has changed. The fish has been over cooked every time we have been there. The crab is ok but everything else we have ever tried hasn't been good. I would love to see this place turn things around. As of right now the food is not worth the price that are asking for it. Iguanas has a wonderful patio, great, friendly, and efficient service. The shrimp was good too. We had the shrimp platter and a side order of wings. The shrimp platter consisted of 3 of each of the following, coconut, bacon-wrapped, fried, and buffalo. Coconut was my favorite and bacon-wrapped was my other half's... Go figure! :p. We would recommend to the restaurant that they serve four of each, as the platter is obviously for sharing and there aren't odd numbers of folks dining together as often as even, which makes it awkward when it comes to the third shrimp. Something to keep in mind. The wings were sadly below par which is why no 5 stars. read more

Came to SSI for a long weekend and decided to try Iguanas for the first dinner of the trip. Two of us had the blackened fish dinner , one had fried shrimp and non-seafood eater had the Alfredo Blackened Chicken pasta. The fried shrimp was the best dish. Shrimp was cooked perfectly and more than enough for one person. My daughter gave the Alfredo high marks. Two of us had the fish dinner with blackened Mahi Mahi. Not great execution. Tuesday night of Spring Break so it was busy. Our appetizer came after our entrees were served. My shrimp and fries were cold. After I mentioned this to our very nice server, Brandon, he returned to our table to tell us he had notified the manager who was comping our entire meal for 2 adults and 2 children!! The prices are good and the food is good but not outstanding. They are famous for their fried shrimp and it was very good as were the fried oysters. The broiled scallops were the best dish of the night. The broiled fish was very average. I will say that the slaw is about as good as I've had anywhere. The onion rings are good but not outstanding. Overall a little disappointed but it followed two amazing meals at other local restaurants so it is hard to judge too fairly.. Not really fair to post a review but we'll drop them the 4 stars they have. We were looking for a dinner spot and this was high on our list. A Friday evening and we were looking for a good spot. It was dinner time and we were taken to a table far in the back and only saw a handful of customers. Some other places we passed by were packed to the hilt. Menu looked like fried stuff mainly, not what we wanted, either. Maybe not fair to walk but Yelp is a great place for reviews but so is looking at the patronage. We get warry of empty places, especially on weekends at dinner time. Might try it again next time we're in town, but passed this time. read more

Food was good, but not mind blowing. I had their Barnie-B, a signature fish (blackened haddock) and grits dish. It was good. Plenty to eat. As far as flavor, it just needed a little more "pop". My wife had a coconut shrimp/fried shrimp combo platter. It was again, good, but she said the fried shrimp were better by far. The coconut shrimp weren't "coconutty". After a tour of Christ Church in Frederica, it was time for lunch. Our tour guide, who lives on the Island told me that Iguana's was her favorite place and has won the "Best Shrimp" award several years in a row. It was an easy 10 minute walk from the bus, so off we went. At first glance, "tourist trap" came to mind. And it indeed was, kitschy décor and all. I couldn't care less--I was hungry! We were seated immediately and our waitress was welcoming and friendly. At our guide's suggestion, we ordered the lunch special--seven large shrimp (fried, broiled or blackened--fried for me), an on-plate salad, coleslaw, a side (I ordered grits), hushpuppies and soft serve ice cream with toppings for dessert, about twelve bucks. Our lunch arrived about ten minutes after ordering. The shrimp were indeed large. They were wild caught just off the Georgia coast and were amazingly clean and sweet tasting. They were covered with just enough batter to insure that the shrimp remained moist during the frying process but not so much as to dominate. The accompanying remoulade was fine--nothing special. The "salad" was merely a few leaves of mixed greens with no dressing. The hushpuppies were disappointing after having spectacular ones at Hyman's in Charleston the day before. These very small, hard and fairly tasteless. The coleslaw wasn't bad but nothing about it stood out. The grits, however, stole the show--creamy, buttery and cooked perfectly. Finally, the soft serve ice cream bar was a nice surprise. There were several toppings and sauces which allowed for many combinations. For me, chocolate and caramel sauces with cookie pieces and nuts--a very nice way to end the meal. read more

Very family friendly. (You can even bring your dog). There was a 15 minute wait but it was less. The food was delicious. Only downside was that they brought out the appetizer and our entrees at the same time, would've been a little nicer if they waited until we finished the appetizer to bring the entrees. Wow- this is a wonderful place. I'd give them 5 stars except for the decor. I love it; it's beachy. The food is terrific. Had the blackened shrimp and scallop platter. I loved everything. I was skeptical about the scallops due to the price; they'd cost 2x that much on the west coast. Omg good! All the food was perfectly prepared. Restaurant 101 The soup should come out before the meal. Don't lie to the customer and say "well... they had to stir the soup... well... you know... you know." Just be honest and say I forgot the soup. When your the manager don't hang around the table and continue to address the issue in front of everyone. I ask the manager to forget about it. He kept on. I asked 3-4 times... "please leave us." And don't look at me and then say... "so... how's the scallops?" I embarrassed my coworker and I really didn't feel like having this conversation and confrontation with the manager. He can't the meal and I did not want that. I just wanted the freaking soup.
