Chicken fried steak with gravy, two eggs over easy and English muffin.

Fun, nostalgic 50's diner brings fresh local ingredients to breakfast offerings. An unassuming spot in rural southern Georgia was a great surprise. Clean, friendly and great food in a walk back in time. Locals know this spot well and for breakfast lovers, this place doesn't disappoint. We arrived at 9:30 on a Wednesday and it was packed shortly thereafter. Great spot for a lovely morning drive near St. Mary's river, farm land and wetlands.

Here's the scoop! We're headed home on I-95 and we needed to have breakfast. Our biggest problem is finding a restaurant that has parking for our 30 ft RV. So I let my Yelp App guide me to this old fashioned adorable southern restaurant. The place was packed to the gills'. All of the help were so nice, from the greeter, to the man who cleaned off a table for us, to the young lady that gave us menus and coffee and finally to our server Brittany! She took our orders, refilled our coffee cups, got Dave ice water and hot sauce! I ordered the western omelet which was loaded with ham and fresh veggies. I had cheese grits that were super creamy and cheesy, and an English muffin that Dave devoured. Even that tasted delish, maybe buttered and fried? Sometimes it pays to go off the beaten path to the road unknown! Best part was that I shared my breakfast with my little girl Freckles!

Traveling I-95 south in a Class C This "find" was a welcome alternative to highway fast fare. Just 3 miles to BETTER! Hospitality, ambience, food, affordability, menu variety and good service. On a Sunday at 10am it was packed. The hostess had us seated after a short wait and the manager cleaned the tables. Coffee (good) immediately! Brittany showed up quickly and orders placed. 7 minutes wait time with a full house- real good. My scrambled eggs were just right. My wife Judy's omelette was over sized. Not jealous but I will remember next time we purposely return. Bacon was crispy and the cheesy grits outstanding. $29.16 + tip. An Off-95 bargain.

Stopped here for breakfast on our way home from Cumberland Island. We had to put our name in but the wait wasn't too bad. Everything we ate was great!

Vintage style family owned restaurant for sure. The reviews for the fried chicken is what brought us. We decided to share a four piece meal. They definitely give you plenty of food. For me, the Mac and cheese was bland and a little dry. The fries were over done but the fried chicken and potato salad were amazing. I do love some good cornbread that doesn't fall apart when you put butter on it. Our waitress was super cute and friendly.

The best fried chicken in town (kingsland, GA). We were on the road for a few hours and stopped for lunch. Highly recommended.

It's only 252 miles from our house in St. Petersburg, Fl to Steffens in Kingsland, Ga. The drive is worth it just for the collard greens. Sweet, a hint of heat, pork pieces, some stems (meaning these are the real deal). Best I've had since Elliot's mom taught me how to make greens back in 1978. We ate here twice in the last week. Once on the way to Durham. Once on the way back home. Fried chicken crispy and moist. Liver and Onions amazing. The beef tips in bourbon sauce was fantastic! Asked how I wanted them. Medium rare I said, hopeful but not really expecting anything. They were done absolutely perfect to my taste of medium rare. Pink center, tender, juicy, tasty. Not over-sauced with the bourbon sauce. Just the right amount of one tasty sauce to compliment the already delicious tips. Wow! Real home made mashed potatoes (pieces of potato in there just the way I like it). Fried okra. Amazing. Hush puppies with onion! We'll be back even if it is a four hour drive!

Our second time here! We love this place! I gave it four stars due to the long wait to get your food after you have sat down at the table. But it's worth the wait. Prices are very reasonable. Staff is very friendly!

We found Steffens when we looked on Google Maps for a place to eat. They are off the beaten path that we normally travel but oh so worth the find. When we pulled up you knew how good they much be the parking lot was packed and this was just a Monday about 12:30 pm. We found a place to park and went inside, we waited about 10 minutes to be seated, so worth it. Busy busy place. Our waitress came and took our drink orders as we still wanted to decide from the menu, she came back and we ordered. My daughter and I got liver and onions, she got the greens and macaroni and cheese and I got mashed potatoes and creamed corn. The mashed potatoes are real and the creamed corn is homemade. All of it was oh so good. He got biscuits and gravy and pancakes, they tasted like grandmas house. Everything was oh so good. The waitress was amazing kept our glasses full and came by often to see if we needed anything. Portions are not small which made him happy. Inside the restaurant are many old picture's and lots to see just an overall great experience. This was our first time there and we will be back.

My husband and I stumbled upon this little country diner, and what a delightful surprise it was! Established in 1948, this quaint spot exudes charm from the moment you step through the door. We were lucky to get a table shortly after arriving, and the friendly service made us feel right at home. I ordered Steffen's Benedict, which featured real country ham, eggs, smothered in peppered sausage gravy, topped with crispy fried green tomatoes. Each bite was a perfect blend of flavors! My husband enjoyed home fries with sausage and biscuits and gravy, which he loved just as much. A comforting Southern classic. The atmosphere felt so hometown, with the warmth of friendly conversations all around and the enticing aroma of delicious food. If you're in the area, don't miss out on this hidden gem. We'll definitely be back for more of their comforting dishes! We even took desserts home for later !

So lucky to have found this place, thanks to Yelp. Serving sizes are so large and generous, and real good. Tip: when ordering bread, get the cornbread because although the hush puppies are good, they're small and you get only three or four of them. Chicken pot pie a little runny but good, and served with a spoon. Fried okra real good, sweet potato fries a little soft. Fried chicken livers a little over cooked.

    Daily specials. Yummmmm

Steffan's was everything we had hoped for after a 12 Hour drive from the North East, it was a beautiful small community and it seemed like everyone in town was at the restaurant eating with us and it was a lovely bunch of folks. They really hustle in that restaurant the line of people is always forming and the food is a flashback to days by gone. Everything homemade fresh ice cream nothing from a can or jar. For entrées we ordered catfish and country fried steak with brown gravy . For sides there was fried okra & corn fritters of some kind which I thought were exceptional. The Black Eyed Peas were amazing - like I had never tasted before. There were biscuits cornbread hush puppies served right at dinner which was a nice touch. I heard it's the best place in town to eat but the town is pretty small a great stop if you're traveling down 95 to Florida. Last exit in Georgia before the Florida border.

This place is always busy because it is such a great southern restaurant. The breakfast is always great and we travel to go here. The people are very friendly and quick to get you seated and waited on. The food is great. Tender chicken great waffles!

I am traveling within reasonable distances of my home to experience the flavors. For example, one establishment provided a Flight of 3 menu items before committing to eating one, which was enjoyable; however, their shepherd's pie was prepared with sweetness/sweetened rather than savory flavors, which didn't bode well for me. Today's adventurous goal was to experience "bangers and mash," as there appear to be a couple of variations of this dish made with either Guinness, Port wine, or beef stock. When typing Bangers and Mash into Yelp and Google Maps, this establishment was an option for consideration. I verified that the item was on the menu and read the reviews. Upon our arrival, we were greeted well and seated forthwith. We started to place our orders when I noticed that the food item I was seeking wasn't on the menu. When I inquired about the Bangers and Mash, I was told it was no longer available. Disappointed, I opted for the Shepherd's pie. While I couldn't obtain the item I hoped for, the experience wasn't bad. The shepherd's pie was well-made and presented well; a large portion is served in an individual cast-iron pan. The flavor profiles were quite good, very savory and rich. The flavor spectrum touched all of the sensory elements. I found it quite enjoyable. My journey continues.

Luckily there was a space heater right next to us to provide warmth. The outdoor seating had big heaters too, but they were reluctant to turn those on. The place had a really laid-back, country ambiance, like you would imagine a bbq joint to have. There were rolls of paper towels at the tables and your food comes in a plastic tray lined with aluminum foil and some plastic silverware. I had the centercut rib meal specifically because it comes with two sides and I wanted baked-beans and collard greens. The collards were but big unlike the chopped stuff I've had in the past and were good. The baked-beans were also good and I ate most of those too. The ribs (two) looked beautiful with the bark seasoning and they tasted good too. The meal came with some bread that did not taste good and I didn't want to eat all of it. The sweet tea was fabulous and you get free refills and already comes in a styrofoam to-go cup for the win. The service was excellent. The two younger waitresses were very nice, attentive, and helpful. No problems there. We learned from them that there is live music many nights during the week in the evening from around 5-6pm to close (I think around 9pm) Although I had a great experience at Captain Stan's, I unfortunately cannot say that the food is life-changing, which is what I am looking for with BBQ. The prices were fair and the portions were more than adequate. *tip - they offer a military discount.

To make it even better…read morethere was a very good band "Midwest Riders" playing that night, playing mostly country from the 70s-80s, switching to rock with an emphasis of the southern genre on the second set. And a few of their own songs too, which were pretty good too. All the way from Michigan of all places. The specialty here is the ribs. They are heavily smoked with a substantial dark bark. Great flavor, tender, and meaty. They're served without a sauce; just the dry rub is sufficient. (Maybe there was sauce available on the side but I didn't ask.) The rib plate is a serving of 2 ribs with a choice of 2 sides. Also sliced pickled banana peppers, a nice touch. I thought 2 might not be enough so I upgraded to the half rack (5 ribs) and ate 3 and saved 2 for later. They were quite large so I probably could have made do with 2. My sides were collard greens and potato salad. The collards were kind of ordinary, but the potato salad? Wow, almost as good as my wife's, who makes the best! Potatoes not cooked down to mush, not too mayonnaisey, tangy, peppery, and crunchy from diced peppers. Good portion sizes for the sides too. No corn bread or hush puppies, unfortunately. Other barbecue items include chicken and Boston Butt. The menu makes it harder to order these as a meal (a la carte only for some reason) but it can be done. Also chili, peel&eat shrimp, oysters (when available locally) and a few things for non-barbecue lovers. I sat at the outside bar where I could easily take in the scene: the band on the stage, the cheerful warm fire in the center throwing sparks and a pleasant smoky aroma, the patrons, many of whom were in costume on this Halloween night, kids dancing to the music (surprisingly no adults), and dogs all over the place running amok and having a great time too. Speaking of the bar: don't expect craft beers or gourmet drinks here; it's all generic national brands. I had an Angry Orchard, a pretty bad cider from New York. Lingering a while to listen to the music I eventually finished with a slice of key lime pie. Adorned with nothing more than whipped cream from a can and a slice of lime it was nevertheless surprisingly good. 5 stars so far. Normally I give a pass on bad restrooms, especially in a place like this, but in this case, sadly they lost a star. I heard somebody mention the men's room needed attention and 10 minutes later I wanted to use it and found a toilet filled to overflowing, the floor soaked with water and presumably other liquids. Surprisingly no urinal (yes I was in the right room for my gender). So I decided to "hold it" and just washed my hands, getting enough soap from the nearly empty dispenser. A half hour later when I visited again the toilet was fixed and the floor mostly dry but the soap dispenser was completely empty. Isn't that something they would check at the same time they fixed the clog? This wouldn't stop me from coming back, but I sure hope the kitchen staff has access to better facilities!
