Delicious BBQ!!! Sweetest employees. What a great stop just off I-95 just above the FL line. No bathrooms but there is a gas station beside them.... they just asked that you make a purchase. Outdoor seating only Great way to support small businesses! read more

Solid BBQ that is comparable or better than what's available locally and at a much better price. Have a seat while enjoying the smell coming off the 2 Giant smokers!!! read more

Just driving by the smell draws you in ! The staff are very friendly as well. The sandwich is pretty tasty and chewy. Not to bad at all

If you drive up and down the coast as much as I do and crave some real southern bbq, you have to stop at Malsons!! I know I know, it's a little shack next to a gas station, but trust me. Tender smoked meat, slathered in their homemade mustard bbq sauce! I highly suggest getting everything on the menu and washing it down with sweet tea. Oh and don't forget to grab one of their delicious cupcakes. The only thing sweet is the service and smiles and the window. read more

It doesn't look like much, squeezed in between a Chevron and a Wendy's but dang that was some good barbecue! That unassuming little shack is flanked by two huge wood-fired smokers working full-time. Pulled pork, baked beans (with bacon and dripping with molasses) and Cole slaw that tastes like it should. $30 all-in for two dinner plates (w/o beverages). It's a no-brainer stop, right there when you get off I-95 at exit 3. 5/5 for what it is - good BBQ. read more

Tender flavorful bbq. We had the brisket sandwich- served on a bun or over rice. Excellent. The beans and Cole slaw were also excellent. There is seating outside that's limited and most take the food to go. Friendly service and mouth watering smells coming from the 2 giant smokers. Located next to Wendy's and easy to miss. Worth looking for. read more

I stand on my 5 star review from 6 years ago. The billowing smokers and wood pile say this place is legit. Still a great spot to stop for wood smoked pork, beef or chicken. Order at the window and they'll call you when it's ready. Several outdoor picnic table for dining or waiting for your order. read more

Pulled off the highway to get some gas, thought we'd be stuck eating fast food, then found this little gem right there, so it was super convenient. My guy ordered the brisket sandwich and we also tried the baked beans (vegetarian), cole slaw and potato salad. All good news, he loved the tender, flavorful meat and the beans especially were great. Simple food, done right at long ago prices. And the ladies were very nice. Got gas, ate in the car and got right back on the road. Skip Wendy's and McD's and come here instead. You won't be disappointed. read more

You cannot beat their smoked chicken for the $$$ huge portions and really good . This is a hidden gem!

This is not your typical barbecue restaurant. Think an old timey wooden shack that was here forever and that civilization built up around. If you are the least bit frou frou or fussy, then this isn't your kind of place. But if you love real, authentic, down home barbecue, then you must stop here. We came for lunch not having any idea what to expect. It was easy to access right off of the I-95 exit. The "shack" is located between a gas station and a Wendy's. There's parking out front, but most folks did what we did -- parked in the Wendy's lot and walked over. The menu is written on the outside wall. You order and pay at the window. They call your name to pick up your food when it's ready. There is no "inside". No inside seating at all, just one round table and a few picnic bench tables out front in the swale of grass between the other businesses. When we stopped by, a couple of truckers were enjoying brisket sandwiches (we asked what they were having). We ordered a regular pulled pork sandwich and a rib sandwich. One as a combo came with one side and a drink. We both got baked beans as a side. And for my husband's combo he got sweet tea. Both sandwiches were very good. The pulled pork was tender. My rib "sandwich" was four ribs slathered in barbecue sauce and two slices of plain white bread served separately. It was quite messy to eat and delicious. The baked beans were slightly sweet and very good. We sat at one of the picnic tables with a good view (and smell) of the smokers. As we "dined" a half dozen more people lined up at the window. If in this area again, we'd definitely return. read more

Absolutely fantastic food, service, and atmosphere. Such a charming place with real authentic food, cannot recommend highly enough.

While driving through Georgia, my wife fired up the ol' Yelp machine and found a bbq joint in Kingsland with very good reviews. "Ever heard of Malson's?" she asked. "Nope." And with that we were off. Arriving in the parking lot, I have to admit that it gave off a bit of a 'this is a creepy looking place tucked into the back of a gas station parking lot.' That's probably because it's a creepy looking place that is actually tucked into the back of a gas station parking lot. Do not let that dissuade you from trying the food!! The big smoker on the side of the building is a great indicator of things to come! Look, it's not fancy. It's paper plates and eat outside and hope you don't inhale too many car exhaust fumes. You know, from the gas station. The pulled pork was excellent. Great flavor and really well cooked. Brisket was equally good. You could tell they knew how to smoke some meat! Potato bun for each sandwich we got was fresh and tasty. The mustard based sauce is just a touch on the sweet side. May be too much for some so make sure you ask for it on the side if you're not sure. We also got a side of coleslaw. It was vinegar based and not mayonnaise. I like it prepared that way and it was really good. Overall a great dining experience at a place that not many may know about! If in Kingsland you need to try Malson's!! read more

Absolutely delicious. I go here every time I am in town. I like everything I've had but the pulled pork is hands down the best thing on the menu. Hole in the wall places like this are always the best. And the girls that work there are hilarious. 10 out of 10. Every time. read more

Great service. But the food wasn't all that great. I was told that I went late in the day, so maybe that is why I didn't find it so tasty. What I really did like was the sausage in the bun. I was really in the mood for some good old bbq and I feel like that is not what I got. read more

Pretty good pulled pork sandwich for the price. The sauce is a southern mustard base BBQ sauce and is wonderful with just enough black pepper for flavor. Don't be thrown off by it's location next to the Chevron gas station, the kitchen and cooking area look clean and organized. I wish they had more sides like Mac & cheese and greens, but the potato salad and cucumber & onion salad were good. The cucumber salad seemed like it had been made for a while since the onions were limp and losing the color. Everything was made and ready within 5 minutes. I definitely recommend getting the sweet tea (very sweet). read more

Stopped here on a whim for lunch willing to try a new BBQ place close to home. Got their brisket plate with a side of potato salad. I honestly was not that impressed the brisket came shredded instead of slices and it seemed somewhat dry only being saved by whatever sauce they put on it. Considering the brisket came shredded makes me wonder what kind of meat they are actually serving since every other BBQ place always slices their brisket. Could not notice any evidence of fat marble on the meat. Overall taste was fine, sides were fine, nothing impressive about the place. Will not repeat there are better places out there even in this small town. read more

The food was great! The service was fast and very pleasant. We had the pulled pork plate and a sandwich. Each had 2 sides. Ample food.

What a great find. We were exhausted after a day of driving so stopped at the motel 6. Didn't feel like driving anywhere so we decided to walk to malsons. At first I couldn't find it so I called them we noticed the smoker out back. Just a little walk up window but cashier was super nice and the bbq was delicious. I order pulled pork and brisket quite often and the flavor was incredible. I'm so glad we decided to split a plate because the servings were huge. Malson's BBQ - Pulled pork brisket potato salad and Cole slaw - Southern Near Me - Kingsland, Georgia

I was making a field visit to Kingsland for work and I stopped in for an early lunch right when they opened at 11AM on a Wednesday. I always try to patronize the nonchain spots over the McD's, BK etc of the world. I got a pulled beef sandwich. I wasn't impressed with what I got for $13. The bun was sopping wet. I don't know if they soak the meat in something to keep it moist throughout the day but no one likes wet bread. The beef was okay. There wasn't much flavor in the meat or the sauce. read more

"I like pig butts and I cannot lie...." - Sign at Mason's BBQ. Well, I couldn't agree more to this testimony, especially if you're living in the South, you just have to try the BBQ. My husband and I found the perfect reason to get some good 'Ole BBQ. We had some good news that day and good news always equates to having a cheat day. Although Mason's is a little BBQ shack off the highway, you can't miss this place. The BBQ smoke coming from this place will lure you. There are some outside seating available if you'd like to enjoy your BBQ right then and there. As for parking, it can be tight, or you can park at the parking area next door (sorry!). I got myself a Beef BBQ plate with Baked Beans and Coleslaw then my husband got the Pulled Pork Sandwich. Both plate and sandwich are loaded with BBQ meat, I even had leftovers the following day! You can taste the smoke on the meat, the meat itself is good enough, you don't even need the sauce to add flavor to it. I like the Baked Beans - it was just a perfect balance of tang and sweetness. I also liked their coleslaw. We also got a couple of cupcakes for dessert, I wouldn't say it's spectacular but it was just enough to get your sweet tooth satisfied. We waited for order for about 15 minutes, but it was worth the wait since they prepare the food upon ordering and you'll guarantee to get it fresh and hot. All items are decently priced in my opinion. If you ever need to do a quick stop over from the interstate, you must try Malson's! read more

Holy smokes!! I need a second portion! Stopped to get some lunch and glad I stopped here. Got the pulled pork sandwich, bbq brisket sandwich, potato salad, and cole slaw. Washed it all down with a strawberry lemonade. The pulled pork was DELICIOUS (my favorite), the brisket was also incredible. The potato salad was flavorful, and so was the cole slaw. I'd recommend getting both. If you're looking for lunch and craving BBQ don't pass this place up. As for me, I'll be dreaming of that pulled pork sandwich for the next month. read more

Stopped at the gas station to do a quick fuel up on my way North. The most glorious smell was coming from this place right next to the station. Saw a sign saying "free pulled pork samples" and got one. It was so delicious that I proceeded to order an entire order. Cost me $10 and got a heaping portion of pulled pork that has a sweet style bbq sauce mixed in. Needless to say the food was amazing and I was honestly surprised that this random off highway place has such good food. But then again, I should have suspected it cause the Yelp had high ratings for it. If you are ever in the area, run, don't walk to this spot and get yourself some amazing bbq! read more

I reallllllly wanted to like this local little place, but unfortunately the bbq was just entirely overcooked. The meat on the ribs was so dry it was cracking when it pulled it off. $18.99 for the ribs alone and they're inedible. The brisket is okay... beans were great. And service was so friendly. Just very discouraged that the ribs were so bad- they're usually my favorite! read more

It's fair, thus my 3 stars. This was a default place because where I wanted to go was closed for repairs and I was starving. I ate most of the chicken and tossed the rest out. For the price I think you can do better, but I didn't get sick so 3 stars for no bathroom issues. read more

This was an AMAZING bbq spot. The ribs were literally falling off the bone. The pulled pork was tender, moist, and flavorful. Their sauce was very unique, with both vinegar and sweet honey-like notes. It was a great find for lunch while traveling home from Florida on I95. It's a little spot and hard to see, sonif you're looking for it, just look for the Wendy's. It's betwen there and a gas station. They do have some picnic tables you can sit and eat at. You'll have to eat a cigarette to get more smoke in your food! I've visited three times and a couple times bought double entrees to take home for a reheated meal the next day. They are very consistent, though my last visit, the chicken was a little over cooked. But the flavor is always incredible. It reheats like it's fresh and tastes like they just handed it to you. The baked beans and potato salad cannot be eaten without each other. They are just made to go in your mouth at the same time! Sweet and salty, it's the best combination. The cucumber salad is also fantastic! I could eat just that for my meal and be soooo satisfied! The red onions are sweet, cucumbers crisp and delicious, then you taste the vinaigrette, which has a tingey kick to it at the end, and man it is a surprise you didn't know you wanted. Tried the pork but the chicken was my favorite. Half chicken with sauce on the side. Mwah! Perfect! Now I know that sauce is so delicious because it's filled with sugar, so I try to keep away as much as I can even though that sh!t is really damn good. But the meats just stand alone. Juicy, savory, and yes, SMOKEY-AZZ-HAVIN'EST meats ever--EVER!!!! You do not need the sauce, but you will love the sauce. So get it on the side and save it to take home and put some of your grocery store cooking in that sauce, and you're welcome for that awesome tip. The sauce really is that good. Ketchup based, sweet and a little vinegary, herbs speckling it all over. I brought a cooler to smuggle my little takeout cups of it to my rental 47mins away on Jekyll. AND I went back so many times, I stockpiled it and took it all the way home to Philly in that same cooler, AND bought a $10 mason jar of it to "gift" but I think I'm keeping that too. They have cupcakes too. Flavors vary each day, but the choices rotate among chocolate, red velvet, and lemon. I tried the chocolate with pb cups chopped all over the frosting. It was dry and too sugary or me. Red Velvet is just a gimmick of dyed chocolate with reduced cocoa powder and tastes lame, so I wouldn't want that one, but I'll try the lemon some time when they have it. Malson's really just needs to hook up with Linda's Cupcakes in Brunswick and sell her key lime cupcake because it is the only dessert around that can stand up to the quality of Malson's. Malson's staff is professional and efficient, and they ALWAYS got my orders right. If you try to tell them how great they are, they kinda ignore you... or they did in my case. So they're not particularly mushy, but who cares when their food is this good! Go! Enjoy!!! ...And notice all the white people take a picture of the sign that says "I like pig butts and I cannot lie" read more

Stopped here for lunch. First time as we are just passing through the area. Got the 1/2 chicken with rice and it was sooooo dry. Only ate a little bit and had to throw the rest away. THANK YOU, YELP! I doubt I would have found this tiny, unassuming place on my own, in a parking lot, sandwiched in between a gas station and something else. For $5.99, I got THE best pulled pork sandwich in memory, and that is saying a lot from this Georgia girl. It was simplicity itself - very tender meat, very tasty BBQ sauce - just the right amount - and a very soft bun. WOW. And my order was taken by a nice person and served FAST. I will now be stopping here every time I go up or down I-95.
