This place is awesome. Don't judge a book by the cover, this family owned business knows how to make BBQ. Great portion size, fair pricing, and they are the nicest people! Truly grateful for this gem and I get it every time I'm in town. read more

The food was absolutely amazing. The BBQ sauce is some of the best I've ever had. But what goes above and beyond is I forgot my debit card there and they kept it safe and even went so far as to try finding me on social media. I can't even begin to say how much I appreciated a full belly and a not so empty wallet!! read more

The food is so good. The flavor is delicious. Definitely recommend it for bbq. Its authentic flavor.

Ok it's a roadside bbq shack. Signs are hand painted and it's rough and rugged put together as it grew looks are the real thing. Don't be put off by anything including it's easy to miss. This is a strong bbq eatery!! The sides are all fantastic, don't miss out on the Cole slaw as it's a serious old south gem. Above accolades aside this mustard base bbq is simply Great! Best bbq chicken sandwich I've ever had. Main choices of brisket, ribs, pork and chicken are all a step above what you think is good. Others should take lessons. Drive through is a steady stream of locals. Inside is a full bar and small homey no frills dining space. Great attention by the owners how ever you go, just GO!! read more

Some of the best BBQ I have ever had! The black bottom fries were delicious as well. 10/10

Don't let the appearance fool you. Typical local place with good food and service. Small local bar / restaurant with a good football crowd.

Get the loaded fries ! These guys are not stingy. Enough to share. We get these when we pass through Folkston, GA. read more

Jalen's - Loaded fried with pork. - Barbeque Near Me - Folkston, Georgia

Great pulled pork sandwiches! Slaw was also fresh and tasty, hot fresh French fries. Bbq sauce is mustard based, it really goes well with the pork! read more

This place is a gem in Folkston. It's a small locally owned business with great food. I tried the loaded fries with chicken instead of pork. It was sooo good. The chicken was tender and chipped finely. It was mixed with a delicious bbq sauce over a bed of fries. The sauce has a slight heat which set the fries on fire. I selected the full size which was way too much food to eat. They're very generous with the portions and the prices are reasonable. I truly enjoyed this lunch. I feel like I'm in a good food coma. read more

Jalen's - Loaded Chicken Fries - Barbeque Near Me - Folkston, Georgia

Absolutely love Jalens BBQ. Had the bbq chicken, collard greens and macaroni n cheese which was absolutely delicious. Definitely be back I want to try some of Jalens ribs next. read more

Went here recently. The service was sub-par. The employee was too busy talking to his friends than taking our order. The food is good but the service and wait time (over 30 mins) is awful. read more

Definitely a bbq place you would expect to find in a southern town. Great place to go if you want some good southern bbq and sides at a good price. The ribs and pulled pork are always cooked well and they are very generous with bbq sauce. The French fries tend to disappoint just not to great all around but they aren't the selling point of the restaurant at all.The mac n cheese is always quite good very creamy and cheesy which is what you would be expecting maybe a little lacking on the seasoning but nonetheless it's a place worth eating at. And it's hard to beat 11$ for a big pulled pork sandwich and two sides especially these days read more

jalens is the best food, customer service, loving people. They catered my father's 90th birthday party and everything was spot on. Better than any of the local barbecue chains and independent chains. If you're looking for just a great meal for the night or a family function whether it be a wedding birthday, Jailene's is spot on. thank you. Dianne read more

I stopped because I was told this was the only place worth getting anything to eat in Folkston. I was not disappointed! The food was so delicious I saved some to take home so my husband could try it. Now every time I come to Folkston I'm gonna have to stop to bring dinner home. The bbq sauce is literally the best sauce I have ever had in my life. read more

Jalen's - Bbq pork sandwich and fries. - Barbeque Near Me - Folkston, Georgia

Local barbecue that appears to be popular, but the bar we got was simply 'ok' and portions were small

Stopped in when I saw it on my way home to Savannah this past Sunday. I was so happy to see a little BBQ place open on Sunday! The lady who helped me was lovely. The order was ready in just minutes. The food was wonderful and the portions enormous. Will definitely stop next time I'm in Folkston. read more

the best I've had in years, so glad my buddy Pnut showed me where to get good food. jalen's you are the best within 50 miles. Loved the food and service. thank you for being read more

Got bbq to-go from Jalen's last night. This is excellent southern style bbq. I had the pulled pork sandwich, Black Bottom fries, and baked beans. The sandwich was excellent. Pork with a generous amount of sauce served on a grilled and buttered bun with a dash of pepper. The Black Bottom fries are seasoned with the Jalen's bbq sauce. They are salty, sweet, and delicious. Speaking of sweet try the baked beans. There must be a cup of brown sugar in every pint. Needless to say Jalen's isn't for the health conscious, unless you try the new baked chicken salad. read more

Best BBQ chicken if had awhile and the collards were on point !! Definitely will make a point to travel thru Folkston again!!

Chicken dry like beef jerky and old as if was cooked days ago would not buy anymore or recommend anyone to eat there.

I asked the guy at a gas station where to go for barbecue and he sent me here. The other review doesn't even mention that this is a barbecue joint.. great job on that review. I had a chopped barbecue beef sandwich and some crazy fries slathered with meat and sauce. To be honest with you, I'm not sure exactly what the f#@$ is going on at this place. I think its run by a high school kid, and the place itself is something slightly nicer than a shack with an outdoor dining area that looks like it barely survived a nuclear holocaust replete with crappy, dirty plastic chairs. Minus one star for weird religious messages on the wall, but +4 stars for being an authentic barbecue shack in a little dumpy town in Georgia. read more

Well done BBQ, Well worth the visit. Great service is prompt and the sides are delicious. Indoor and outdoor seating. One of the few places in Folkston where you can get a beer with a meal. read more

We stumbled across this place years ago, after a family trip to the swamp. Jalen's is as authentic a Southern barbecue experience as you will get. Can't believe it's still run by that kid! Very mysterious. Sort of a cement bunker. The fried chicken was delicious -- dredged in flour and fried right under our noses. Good food, and a good time. read more

So lucky to be traveling off the beaten path on our way to Charleston to chance a great lunch at Jalens. My friend had the chopped (pulled?) pork sandwich dinner with baked beans and potato salad. All really good. But I had the best! Loaded fries. Take the black bottom fries and add chopped pork and their bbq sauce (made by some drunk man so he can't remember the recipe) and call me happy. But I could have easily split it with someone. Hated to not eat it all but just could not. read more

We stopped at this little take out stand on the side of US 1 on our way back to Camden Co. We've passed it several times but never stopped because it didn't look like it much. The reviews here on Yelp were good so we decided to give it a try since we were hungry and were not really wanting chicken. We were very glad we stopped!!!! The pork sandwich was excellent! It was well full of meat and we did not find a piece of fat anywhere. We tried the "black bottom fries" and they were very good too. We are very picky people so if we say it's good you can count on it lol. read more

Asked for something off menu, and LOVED IT. Last year we went to a Disney water park and one of the foods there was a BBQ Hot Dog. Jalen's makes great BBQ, and they have hot dogs. We asked them to make us some and they gladly obliged, AWESOME!. The best way to top it off is with cole slaw from Quick Chick. Next time through ask for a BBQ Hot Dog, you won't be disappointed. read more

Great fried chicken and ribs and good place to experience the "local flavor of Folkston" before you go to watch the trains.

Very nice people making very good food. Had the pulled pork and ribs for a late lunch. Very generous servings, made right here. I loved the mustardy sauce but a few in our group thought it was good but they prefer more traditional sauce. The fries were amazing. So was the sweet tea. And they secretly butter and toast the buns. Sooo good. The place is nothing fancy. Sort of a step up from a roadside place (tables, indoor plumbing). But our three generation group was comfortable and happy. read more

Kind service and good food! Went through the "drive-thru" We had one of the best burgers from here! So much flavor, very juicy and a fresh soft bun too. The bbq pork sandwich was good, but that burger was killer. Bbq pork, was good. They use a mustard based bbq sauce. It is a tad sweet with a touch of a kick The beans were good, but had a different spice blend then most places. Touch of cinnamon or nutmeg or something. Not bad, but unexpected. read more

The service was top of the line! Just didn't like the mustard based BBQ, maybe have another type of BBQ sauce for people who do not like mustard based BBQ sauce. read more

A drive through BBQ were you drive over a dirt backyard road. How awesome is that? The mustard based pulled pork BBQ sandwich was very delcious. The potato salad was off the chain!!! The beans tasted a bit like Thanskgiving - not my typical BBQ flavor but something different and still tasty. Very delicious food! read more

The BBQ pork sandwich was excellent! I would definitely order that again. The beans were good, but different. They had cinnamon in them as near as I could tell. I personally didn't care for the "black bottom fries". Maybe the sauce on the fries is an acquired taste - sort of a spicy, sweet mustard concoction. read more

Really good BBQ!!!! and the people working there could not be friendly. Too bad they no longer serve beer. But certainly good BBQ

Their Black Bottom fries are something I would request for my last meal. Perfectly cooked crinkled, seasoned fries, topped with their signature Jalen's BBQ sauce and I always ask for pulled pork on top. I start drooling just thinking about it. Smells so good and tastes DIVINE! read more

Great BBQ at reasonable prices. Service has slackened lately so be prepared to wait if there is more than a couple of orders ahead of you. Quantity can vary depending on who's serving. read more
