Two of us had the scrambler. It was a large delicious biscuit cut in half, topped with two sausage patties, scrambled eggs, and amazing white sausage gravy. Flavorful, perfectly cooked scrambled eggs, and the sausage gravy to die for. Really enjoyed the biscuits!!! Two others in the group had the omelet with side of grits. Again, amazing grits (not a food I grew up with but certainly came to love when cooked correctly) and delicious eggs n cheese. Do not be put off with the exterior!! It is an old gas station, converted to an amazing breakfast and lunch spot. I normally come for lunch, chicken made perfectly with amazing sides! The coffee is always perfect. Service is mostly you serve yourself. Coffee, creamers, drinks, butter, napkins, cutlery, ice, water, all available at the back of the shop. Most recent I had the crab cake sandwich minus the bread with a side of hush puppies. There should be a hush puppy big enough for a crab cake but that's another story. Speaking of big, the crab cake is big and limited filler. They have fast and delish food all the time. My go to is fried shrimp, meat loaf & chicken and dumplings on the daily meals. Well, it just so happens that our favorite burger restaurant just happens to be right there on the main drag, so of course we had to stop and get ourselves something to eat! I am here to report that the quality is still top notch when it comes to burgers here. Mine was excellent, and the fries that came with my burger were good too! The staff were friendly and helpful, even with the lunch rush happening. This place does close at two we got there at 1:15 and there was 10 people in line ahead of us. We went with their special which is a burger. We got the smaller quarter pound burger, which was more than enough once you added all the toppings that they suggest the fries were perfection. They were thick and crispy at the same time. Clearly they are fried but not greasy. I saw there Monday special of fried fish go by and I wanted it so bad but I had to start with the burger . Every day has a different special . I could not believe how fast they get your food out. The kitchen is literally behind the register, and they are hustling. Please make sure you bring cash tip to leave at the counter. Your food will be brought to you, but there is no tableservice per say. Bring quarters for the miss Pac-Man game which is $.50 . And I almost drove past this place because I was looking for a diner but it's a literally a gas station that looks like a closed in the late 70s and nothing has been altered . When you arrive, all the tables will be packed, but because they have a high turnover due to getting their food out so fast, don't worry you'll get a spot . This is a tough review for me as i know T-Rays has been noted as the best burger in the area. Well this burger was so bad that I spit out the first bite and was unable to eat it. Why oh why you would season the meat like that?? What the heck. I cant even describe it. I guess I just love a good burger with simple salt and pepper, and smashed on a seasoned flattop. We also ordered the shrimp platter, it was good but the more we ate, the more we saw the huge black poop vein. I know this is safe to eat, but I prefer to have my shrimp cleaned before I eat it. On a recent business trip to my favorite beach, I stopped at T-Ray's to see if the burgers were as good as the rumors. Place your order at the counter and they call out your name when your food is ready for pick-up. While waiting for my order, I looked around at the place, read some reviews on the wall and sipped on some good sweet tea. I had the Little T burger (quarter-pounder) with fries and a side of corn nuggets. Burger was juicy and delicious. The fries were crispy and good dipped in T-Ray's bbq sauce. Skip the corn nuggets - they were okay but nothing special. I sat outside at a picnic table, in front of an old gas pump. It was a good meal! When I retire to Fernandina in a few years, I'm sure I'll be one of those locals at T-Rays too! read more
