Long story short: Nice little breakfast spot with good service. We came right before 8am and were sat immediately. Our server was kind, but not overly friendly (I don't want a performance, you know?). And our food came out maybe 10 minutes after we ordered. We were early enough to order the Sunrise Special and the egg portions seemed surprisingly large! The grits were lovely. The bacon was not the best, it's thin cut (reminiscent of microwave bacon) and I prefer it to be thick. I ordered the eggs Benedict and really enjoyed it. The hollandaise could have had a touch more seasoning, but the texture was great. I actually preferred the Canadian bacon that came on it than the regular bacon that came with the Sunrise Special. It was perfectly salty and crisp. Oh! And it came with crab meat on it which was a special twist I didn't expect but really appreciated. The potatoes are cut into large chunks, but they are well seasoned and cooked nicely. I can't stand when a potato is undercooked, but this place didn't have that problem. And the cherry on top was the water. Florida locals may not be bothered by the ocean-y taste that comes with their drinking water, but for our family it is something that's hard to get past. We were pleasantly surprised to find that this water tasted as if it was filtered and the ice is that soft kind that's pleasant to chew. Beach Diner is an excellent spot to get breakfast in Fernandina Beach. It has a clean, fresh feel and their menu has some nice options. We both ended up getting Eggs Benedict. They give you the option of one or two eggs. Of course I opted for two eggs and have to get grits. The eggs were poached nicely and the hollandaise sauce had a traditional taste. The home fries are a large seasoned roast potato style. The portions are huge and food quality is excellent. My breakfast sandwich was phenomenal, the avocado was perfectly ripe and complimented the eggs. The true star of the meal was the home fries, just perfectly crispy yet tender and seasoned so well! Such a simple item but says a lot about the restaurant's skill.
