We were in Newport for New Years. We travel around the area during the day. We popped in to Iggy's for a late lunch (or early dinner). My so and I shared 2 of their Margaritas which were delicious! I had their fried whole belly clam platter which included cole-slaw and choice of chowder or salad. I had the Red Clam chowder. My wife had a large bowl of Lobster Bisque which had plenty of Lobster meat. She also 2 Stuffies. For people not from New England these are very nice sized Clams with stuffing and herbs inside. Food was average. The service was very good. This establishment offers free parking as well as a complimentary valet. I parked in Iggy's lot next to a closed/vacant building. As I walked to the restaurant, I also noticed that they offered complimentary valet parking. Good to know for the future. Upon leaving, however, someone had barricaded the lot just before the valet lot so that no one could exit unless they physically removed the obstruction. Fortunately, two very nice gentlemen were walking by and moved the posts so that several people and their cars could vacate the premises. This was a complimentary, self park lot, owned by Iggys, and this is what they do?! After my party of 6 spent just under $300 for dinner? Never again. read more

My sister and I were spending a sisters weekend in RI and Iggy's has never disappointed us with their fresh seafood. This time we opted out of the seafood shack and went to their restaurant. So we have frequented this restaurant many times and it's always been good. Today wasn't a great experience and I should have said something at the time but did not want to embarrass my friend I was with although we both agreed. We were disappointed the outside bar wasn't open and there were only 4 tables, all full, on the patio area so we sat at a high top. Apparently it wasn't the weather that had the outside bar closed it was the lack of customers and the competition for tips as we were told. We ordered a pitcher of watermelon sangria which at best tasted like watered down kool aid. For $33 I would expect better. We barely had 1 1/2 drinks each as there was so much ice. The mozzarella triangles were ok but a bit greasy. The clam cakes were good however, the "red" chowder had a lot to be desired. Where was the tomato? It was pink chowder at best. Needless to say, it's summer and there is a lot of other great restaurants around. We will be taking a break from this place for a while. Certainly not as good as they used to be. read more

Do not think Iggys clam cake stand when you go here. Personally I'm not a fan of that establishment. The Boardwalk is a whole different concept. The waitstaff is excellent and the food scrumptious. This is a great place to come if you are visiting the area. We came on a Monday night and there was no wait and we were seated right away. We sat by the window with beautiful views of the water. However, the food was really mediocre and my dish of the baked scrod was inedible. Overcooked and over salted. I couldn't eat it, so sent it back. I mean it was awful. They charged me for part of the meal, so I was okay with that. My dining partners said their meal was okay but nothing spectacular. However our desert was fun and enjoyable - the Iggy's doughboy sundae. The doughboys taste like beignets with the caramel and chocolate! The young servers were hardworking and tried their best. What a great great meal we had and even better service. 5 of us went for lunch. Erica was our waitress. She did very well. Came here with friends for a night out Food and drink I had a lobster roll which was excellent I also got a mojito which was pretty weak. The table bread was fine but the butter came with was awesome Service Great and no issues. Price Good given the quality of food Parking is free and in a lot Ambiance Restrooms were clean on the inside. We sat outside and had a great view of the beach and walked along the beach full of seaweed! Overall I'm glad I came here and would try it again. read more

We went and although we had some trouble with the parking when we arrived, everything else after that was flawless. The handicap parking is just WAY TOO FAR for a handicap person to come to this restaurant. Nevertheless, we all had different appetizers, as I started with the creamy Clam Chowda for an appetizer. I followed that with the Hot Lobster roll as my friends had other seafood delights, all of which were good. They also discovered the Narragansett beer on tap and really enjoyed its taste. Food was not as good as expected. The oysters were minuscule and not shucked well. The meatballs with the pasta appeared to have too much filler, they were light and fluffy not a solid hearty Italian style kinda meatball- and the sauce lacked flavor. I cook a better Italian spaghetti sauce and meatballs than this. The steak was cooked perfect, but the the price omgosh it was small. The shake with the gummies on the other hands was MAGNIFICENT, as were the caesar salad. They have an excellent location and it was nice sitting outside by the beach- but even though it was sun shining it was freezing out there, the staff looked as frozen as I felt. We won't make the effort to go back, it wasn't worth the drive we took to go there. read more

I had the clam chowder and clam cakes. Each was delicious. My hubby had the steamers. He enjoyed them thoroughly. Everything was served hot. We had the best wait person. She was from Texas and completely understood us. The place itself is fun and has some great water views. read more

I don't think Iggys can handle the amount of people anymore . The food was very subpar. When you pay 36 $$$ for dish it should be pretty decent. I ordered the lobster ravioli. It was under cooked and it was almost cold. The small lobster claw was rubbery and chewy . My friend ordered stuffed shrimp which was pricey too. The shrimp was small and very overcooked/dried out and tasted like iodine. Certainly wasn't fresh. My other friend ordered the chocolate cake for dessert at 10 bucks a slice. It was dry. The whipped cream was all melty/runny and came from a can. It had odd taste. Our bill came to over 200 dollars plus a hefty tip because the waiter was hustling his butt off to keep up with all the clientele. It wasn't his fault the food was horrible. Excellent food and service. They do have tables outside, but the wait can be long for those. They always have coupons and a rewards program if you go often. Doughboys and chowder are great, but at the boardwalk the clams and the stuffies were particular favorites. If you are feeling indulgent, definitely get the lobster bowl filled with bisque and a huge amount of butter poached lobster chunks. read more

This was our first visit here and we chose this location mostly because it's summer and I had been craving lobster, so we headed down to Oakland Beach. We like eating at Iggys's doughboys and chowder house so we thought we would give this place a try. We arrived shortly after opening only to find that all the outdoor seating had been filled. Bummer, we really wanted to soak up the sea air and beautiful view while enjoying some seafood. There's also a round tropical looking bar out there that looks like it would be a fun place to enjoy a frozen drink later in the evening while you relax and enjoy the sunset. (I made a mental note to check this bar out at a later time.) At any rate, we were seated inside next to a large party of 16, which made me nervous that this big table would slow the kitchen down and we'd have to wait an eternity for our food to come out. Thankfully, we were able to order and had received our drinks, clam cakes and chowder before the last of the 16 had finished placing their order. #WINNING (wait, do people still say that?? I'm not sure.) While we were waiting for our entrees, we glanced around at the now full tables in this part of the restaurant and noticed that the median age of the patrons seated both inside and outside was probably 73. Curious about this observation, we asked our server if this was a normal occurrence, and we were told that the older crowd comes here for lunch while the younger crowd usually eats next door. These two restaurants have many of the same items on the menu, but this one in particular has additional high end items like lobster, clams, and steaks and charges accordingly for them. The noise level of the now full room made it really difficult to speak to the person across from the table or even hear our server when she came in to check in on us This made lunch feel less exciting somehow. Now, on to the food, which was overall disappointing to us. The watermelon sangria was not good, the lobster bisque was lumpy, like it hadn't been thoroughly heated through, the lobster casserole was okay, my husband described his burger as "messy" but he did enjoy his clam cakes and chowder. The kids gobbled up their grilled cheese and fries and we ordered some doughboys to go so we could enjoy them as we walked the boardwalk and surrounding beach area. We ate quickly in silence because we couldn't talk over the noise and asked for the check, paid the bill and left - we spent $100 on lunch and left completely underwhelmed. In hindsight, I wish we would have eaten next door at Iggy's doughboys and chowder house so we could have had a quick lunch of clam cakes, chowder, and doughboys and left full and satisfied. I'll be completing a much higher rated review for that restaurant. read more

Last night I had a 2 pound stuffed lobster and it was fabulous! $49.99 special with shrimp and scallop stuffing with Ritz cracker topping. It was perfect and I was in heaven. I sat at the inside bar and yick yacked with the other folks whom for the most part, were local. The lady beside me helped me with my lobster as I have not had a full lobster in years and forgot how to strip the meat from the tail, lol. The menu is huge and there are so many meals that I wanted to try. The bartender was awesome and made a killer black cherry old fashion, I would have preferred a little stronger, but it had great flavor. The black cherries are bourbon infused, they buy them that way and not made locally, shrug - still decent. The side of sweat potato fries and onion rings are done perfect. I was a little worried that this would be a tourist spot and awful. Everything exceeded my expectations and I look forward to visiting again. read more

A step up from their classic neighbor, Iggy's Boardwalk has a much more relaxed approach to seafood (a.k.a, you're not standing in line for an hour just to get one bowl of chowder). The Boardwalk has that beachfront style that is very appealing: white walls and dark woods with large bay windows and doors letting in a ton of natural light. Outside, the Boardwalk has a full bar shaped like an octagon, with plenty of seating. There's also plenty of room outdoors for private events, and easy access to the beach if that's what you're there for. The bar is very efficient. There's typically three or four people behind the bar, and nobody's waiting longer than two minutes to be served. My company had their office party here, and I must say, their service is incredible. For parties, there is a full buffet of chowder, fried and baked fish, french fries, salad, ribs and chicken. I honestly wasn't very impressed. Our server was average in attentiveness and the restaurant was average in cleanliness. At lunchtime, it was not very crowded and I felt like I was dining at the senior center lunchroom. The view was below average as their restaurant catering van blocked one window and the plastic sheeting to the outside patio blurred out the whole back of the restaurant view to the beach. The food was also very average and touristy in preparation. The red chowder was a salty potato soup. I had less than a tablespoon of shredded unidentifiable clam and it was so overcooked it could have been from a grocery store can. The lobster roll sandwiches both hot and cold were good but the portion size scoop of lobster was very, very pricey and did not fill the toasted bun. The lobster was mainly chopped tail meat and less than 1 whole claw between the 2 sandwiches. I was happy that I could substitute greenbeans for the fries on 1 order because the fries seemed as if they came from a frozen bag. The food was outstanding! We had Lobster Roll and Lobster Bomb. The lobster roll was good but the lobster bomb was mind blowingly good. If you have to choose, go with the Bomb! You won't regret it. Also, the gazebo in the outdoor bar is pretty. If you are waiting for your seats or just want drinks, that's the place to go! Also, if you wonder, what is the difference between Boardwalk and doughboy& Chowder House? Boardwalk has full service and liquor licenses. This was my first time at the restaurant portion of Iggy's. We've always gone to the walk up window which gave you every fried option available. It was nice to order something not fried. Their sit down restaurant is designed really well and very clean. The large windows facing the ocean was planned well. Someone was thinking. Their menu was laid out well and easy to follow. Their prices are fair for the seafood selections. We ordered the calamari. It was spicier than normal - which we didn't mind. We loved it. It was the right consistency with a light flaky batter. Their chowders were a hit for our crew - whether it was white, red or clear. 1st - it came out steaming hot. We can't take for granted - I can't tell you how many times I've said "why isn't this chowder hot?" It was filled with the right blend of clams and potatoes. I ordered the pasta primavera with the chicken and shrimp. I brought home what I couldn't finish in a doggie bag - affirming the loaded portion. I chose to have it with both the shrimp and the chicken. Usually the primavera is loaded and soaked in butter. This dish was set right in a large bowl with five large shrimp and a large sliced portion of chicken breast. It was like digging for treasure when I would come upon another piece of shrimp. My only complaint --- I tasted some of my wife's lobster bisque - it was very thick, it had tons of butter, flour and rue. It wasn't good. read more

Took advantage of the beautiful weather to visit one our favorites. Iggy's never disappoints. The lobster rolls and chowder were excellent. You can't find clear broth chowder in many places. They have the best in RI. It was very busy with the sunny day, but the service was quick and very attentive. The hot bread is served with butter or olive oil and Balsamic vinegar. They make a good Bloody Mary with a bacon and celery stirrer. The outside room gives you a nice view of the water. read more

We frequent Iggy's next door and love it but finally tried this place. They still serve the clam cakes here, which are amazing. I had the most delicious lobster macaroni and cheese that I've ever had. It had so much lobster in it I couldn't believe it. It also fed my husband and I for dinner the next night because it was a huge serving. I can't even remember what he had because we were in awe over my dish. Absolutely fresh, delicious seafood in a spot with a view of Greenwich Bay from the covered, heated porch. I ordered grilled swordfish with garlic butter ... or some kind of butter, at any rate! It was fresh, tender and perfectly cooked. Also, the butter was real, as in, from cows which you can't say for the industrial, mystery yellow grease that lousy seafood restaurants pass off as butter. For sides i got vegetable medley, which was a delightful surprise, as in, NOT canned crap, no horrible strung beans. Deliciously cooked carrots, cauliflower, red peppers and broccoli. Might have been lightly roasted-- they had that hint of caramelized sweetness. Wait staff was chipper, place was pretty empty and thus well socially spaced. Make sure to call for a reservation, though, regardless of what oddball weekday hour you drop in, lest you make the host grumpy. Good job, all!! read more
