White lobster Bisque in a seafood restaurant? Really! Tasted like they took the white clam chowder broth and just added a few pieces of lobster. My shrimp scampi dish did have very large shrimp and ample pasta.. The sauce, I could not taste lemon or garlic, butter yes. I had to jazz it up. Have been disappointed the last two times I went here. The stuffed lobster was completely burnt underneath - I mean black. The stuffed part was ok and I ate it, but the claw meat tasted charred. Our party of 3 came for Mother's Day lunch and walked into a crowded and bustling restaurant. Thankfully we had a reservation so there were no seating troubles. There was a special menu for Mother's Day which surprisingly didn't include any fried seafood outside of calamari, but there was - ton of options. Our table started with cups of clam chowder and an order of clam cakes, the Iggys tradition. The chowder was thick and flavorful, and the clam cakes were the perfect accompaniment. After that, we waited around 40 minutes for more food to arrive and towards the end we were wondering if our food had been forgotten or never was punched in. Our server told us that the kitchen was a bit overwhelmed, but I feel like they should've expected this on Mother's Day. Once the food arrived though, it only took a few minutes to devour the food. I had the Linguine with clams which came with chopped clams and fresh clams, the sauce was excellent as well. The oysters were plump and fresh, while the baked seafood came with scallops, lobster, stuffed shrimp and a stuffie. The side vegetables that came with the seafood platter tasted very reminiscent of what I make in my airfryer at home though. As a longtime customer of Iggy's, I was always very pleased with the food, but on the last few visits I encountered a different experience. This is what prompted me to write this review. One of my annual visits includes a delectable lobster dinner with my dear friend on her birthday. The lobster was dry, what little stuffing there was consisted of tiny bay scallops that were chewy, and the meal was overpriced. It was $147.00 for two 1.25 lb lobster's, one dessert with two scoops of ice cream, and two cokes. With tip $177.00. A further disappointment was not being given a candle for the dessert when I informed the server that it was my friend's birthday. While I was not seeking a freebie, a candle would have been a nice gesture, since we were celebrating her 92nd birthday. The atmosphere was pleasant and we were seated where we could see the water, which is always a beautiful and a tranquil sight. Despite the difficult economic times, particularly for restaurants with the cost of operating expenses and food, this experience was unacceptable and breaks my heart, as I and my family have such fond memories Iggy's. read more

We went here on a week night early. You need a reservations as they get very busy between 4 and 6. Great specials! We started with the raw bar. The oysters and clams were both tender and delicious. The shrimp were cooked perfectly. Each piece was a dollar each. We should have made a whole meal of just the raw bar. We also had the clam cakes which were way too bready. Next we had the clam chowder. The New England is much better than the Manhattan. It went down hill from there. The stuffed shrimp was tasteless. The stuffing tastes as if it didn't have anything more than bread in it. The fried fish was also tasteless. The steak was thin, fatty and grizzly. Very disappointing. Before I begin going on about the food, one thing that confused us in the beginning was that there are actually THREE different Iggy's within 500 feet of each other: Iggy's Creamery, Iggy's Chowder House, and Iggy's Boardwalk (aka "fancy Iggy's"). We walked into Iggy's Chowder House and had trouble finding our friends, because they told us to go to "fancy Iggy's." After asking a kind server where fancy Iggy's was, she directed us a few steps down the street and we were able to find it. And fancy Iggy's is definitely a bit fancier than the Chowder House, but still pretty casual (see pictures for reference). Iggy's Boardwalk is a sit down restaurant that has all of your Rhode Island favorites: fish 'n chips, clam shells, and of course, Chowdah!!! I decided to go a different route and try the chicken marsala with almondy green beans, squash and chicken lentil soup. The entree prices were pretty hefty ($20 or more) but they all came with a soup or salad, two sides and some bread for the table. The chicken Marsala was really good - I couldn't eat the whole thing and had to take it home for later. There was also an ample drink/dessert selection (although I stuck with water). We were told there was a 2 hour limit to stay at the table due to decreased capacity from COVID. This was unfortunate because everything here seemed to be in slow motion. We were in Newport for New Years. We travel around the area during the day. We popped in to Iggy's for a late lunch (or early dinner). My so and I shared 2 of their Margaritas which were delicious! I had their fried whole belly clam platter which included cole-slaw and choice of chowder or salad. I had the Red Clam chowder. My wife had a large bowl of Lobster Bisque which had plenty of Lobster meat. She also 2 Stuffies. For people not from New England these are very nice sized Clams with stuffing and herbs inside. Food was average. The service was very good. This establishment offers free parking as well as a complimentary valet. I parked in Iggy's lot next to a closed/vacant building. As I walked to the restaurant, I also noticed that they offered complimentary valet parking. Good to know for the future. Upon leaving, however, someone had barricaded the lot just before the valet lot so that no one could exit unless they physically removed the obstruction. Fortunately, two very nice gentlemen were walking by and moved the posts so that several people and their cars could vacate the premises. The table bread was fine but the butter came with was awesome Service Great and no issues. The meatballs with the pasta appeared to have too much filler, they were light and fluffy not a solid hearty Italian style kinda meatball- and the sauce lacked flavor. I cook a better Italian spaghetti sauce and meatballs than this. The steak was cooked perfect, but the the price omgosh it was small. The shake with the gummies on the other hands was MAGNIFICENT, as were the caesar salad. They have an excellent location and it was nice sitting outside by the beach- but even though it was sun shining it was freezing out there, the staff looked as frozen as I felt. This is a great place to come if you are visiting the area. We came on a Monday night and there was no wait and we were seated right away. We sat by the window with beautiful views of the water. However, the food was really mediocre and my dish of the baked scrod was inedible. Overcooked and over salted. I couldn't eat it, so sent it back. I mean it was awful. They charged me for part of the meal, so I was okay with that. My dining partners said their meal was okay but nothing spectacular. However our desert was fun and enjoyable - the Iggy's doughboy sundae. The doughboys taste like beignets with the caramel and chocolate! The young servers were hardworking and tried their best. The handicap parking is just WAY TOO FAR for a handicap person to come to this restaurant. Nevertheless, we all had different appetizers, as I started with the creamy Clam Chowda for an appetizer. So we have frequented this restaurant many times and it's always been good. Today wasn't a great experience and I should have said something at the time but did not want to embarrass my friend I was with although we both agreed. We were disappointed the outside bar wasn't open and there were only 4 tables, all full, on the patio area so we sat at a high top. Apparently it wasn't the weather that had the outside bar closed it was the lack of customers and the competition for tips as we were told. We ordered a pitcher of watermelon sangria which at best tasted like watered down kool aid. For $33 I would expect better. We barely had 1 1/2 drinks each as there was so much ice. The mozzarella triangles were ok but a bit greasy. The clam cakes were good however, the "red" chowder had a lot to be desired. Where was the tomato? It was pink chowder at best. Needless to say, it's summer and there is a lot of other great restaurants around. We will be taking a break from this place for a while. Certainly not as good as they used to be. read more

Excellent food and service. They do have tables outside, but the wait can be long for those. They always have coupons and a rewards program if you go often. Doughboys and chowder are great, but at the boardwalk the clams and the stuffies were particular favorites. This was our first visit here and we chose this location mostly because it's summer and I had been craving lobster, so we headed down to Oakland Beach. We like eating at Iggys's doughboys and chowder house so we thought we would give this place a try. We arrived shortly after opening only to find that all the outdoor seating had been filled. Bummer, we really wanted to soak up the sea air and beautiful view while enjoying some seafood. There's also a round tropical looking bar out there that looks like it would be a fun place to enjoy a frozen drink later in the evening while you relax and enjoy the sunset. (I made a mental note to check this bar out at a later time.) At any rate, we were seated inside next to a large party of 16, which made me nervous that this big table would slow the kitchen down and we'd have to wait an eternity for our food to come out. Thankfully, we were able to order and had received our drinks, clam cakes and chowder before the last of the 16 had finished placing their order. #WINNING (wait, do people still say that?? I'm not sure.) While we were waiting for our entrees, we glanced around at the now full tables in this part of the restaurant and noticed that the median age of the patrons seated both inside and outside was probably 73. Curious about this observation, we asked our server if this was a normal occurrence, and we were told that the older crowd comes here for lunch while the younger crowd usually eats next door. These two restaurants have many of the same items on the menu, but this one in particular has additional high end items like lobster, clams, and steaks and charges accordingly for them. The noise level of the now full room made it really difficult to speak to the person across from the table or even hear our server when she came in to check in on us This made lunch feel less exciting somehow. Now, on to the food, which was overall disappointing to us. The watermelon sangria was not good, the lobster bisque was lumpy, like it hadn't been thoroughly heated through, the lobster casserole was okay, my husband described his burger as "messy" but he did enjoy his clam cakes and chowder. The kids gobbled up their grilled cheese and fries and we ordered some doughboys to go so we could enjoy them as we walked the boardwalk and surrounding beach area. We ate quickly in silence because we couldn't talk over the noise and asked for the check, paid the bill and left - we spent $100 on lunch and left completely underwhelmed. In hindsight, I wish we would have eaten next door at Iggy's doughboys and chowder house so we could have had a quick lunch of clam cakes, chowder, and doughboys and left full and satisfied. I'll be completing a much higher rated review for that restaurant. read more

I don't think Iggys can handle the amount of people anymore . The food was very subpar. When you pay 36 $$$ for dish it should be pretty decent. I ordered the lobster ravioli. It was under cooked and it was almost cold. The small lobster claw was rubbery and chewy . My friend ordered stuffed shrimp which was pricey too. The shrimp was small and very overcooked/dried out and tasted like iodine. Certainly wasn't fresh. My other friend ordered the chocolate cake for dessert at 10 bucks a slice. It was dry. The whipped cream was all melty/runny and came from a can. It had odd taste. Our bill came to over 200 dollars plus a hefty tip because the waiter was hustling his butt off to keep up with all the clientele. It wasn't his fault the food was horrible. Last night I had a 2 pound stuffed lobster and it was fabulous! $49.99 special with shrimp and scallop stuffing with Ritz cracker topping. It was perfect and I was in heaven. I sat at the inside bar and yick yacked with the other folks whom for the most part, were local. The lady beside me helped me with my lobster as I have not had a full lobster in years and forgot how to strip the meat from the tail, lol. The menu is huge and there are so many meals that I wanted to try. The bartender was awesome and made a killer black cherry old fashion, I would have preferred a little stronger, but it had great flavor. The black cherries are bourbon infused, they buy them that way and not made locally, shrug - still decent. The side of sweat potato fries and onion rings are done perfect.
