We were celebrating a birthday and all four of us ordered a celebratory shot of warm sake. 2 of us drank the shot while the other 2 "tasted" it since they never had. When the food came the other 2 ordered "regular" drink of strawberry daiquiri. I had a sushi platter while the other 3 ordered chicken and rice. My niece brought us here during our visit to Ann Arbor as this is one of her favorite restaurants. There's plenty of parking at the restaurant as it's situated in a large parking lot. We were greeted promptly and shown to our seats where a few others were already waiting. The service was a little slow at times but given our reunion we weren't bothered too much by it. We shared an assortment of steak and seafood together with fried rice which everyone enjoyed. Sodas were refilled and near empty drinks were prompted by request for another. The chef wasn't as vocal or elaborate as other hibachi type restaurants I've visited but he did a decent job. The food here was pretty good. We ate at the bar and ordered the filet and shrimp. It had plenty of flavor and was enhanced by the Yum Yum sauce. The side of fried rice was a standard small sized bowl portion and I liked the ginger dressing on the salad before the meal. The lycheetini I drank was sweet and potent and came with a lychee garnish. Franco, our bartender/server, was fun and engaging and working super hard to make all the drink orders for the tables on a busy Saturday night. Tip these servers well. I ordered a filet mignon medium hibacchi and fried rice dinner. There was hair in my rice. My steak was overcooked ( no pink), and they did not add my hibachi rice. This was my first time trying this establishment for a birthday and won't be returning. They offered to refund or credit me two fried rice orders on next visit. I've never waited too long for a table. Ordered the Steak and Chicken Hibachi and the total came up to be $37 and some change after tax. Very overpriced compared to the portions. Very skimpy with the rice. It was basically vegetables with a side of fried rice. The steak was very tough, and lacked flavor. It didn't taste seasoned at all really. The chicken was decent. We came here and were seated right away. We chose to sit at a booth and not watch our food being cooked in front of us. There were several booths and private areas with curtains located inside of the business. There is also a bar inside. I ordered the hibachi salmon that was served with fried or white rice, vegetables, ginger salad, and soup. Sauces were also served on the side. Everything was really good except the salad. The ginger dressing on the salad was watery and unlike any ginger dressing I've had in the past. The portion size of my meal was large and more meat than you get at other hibachi restaurants. Ichiban is a good place for both hibachi and sushi. You'll always have plenty of leftovers! Restaurant is set up typical hibachi style, with multiple seats around each grill area. They do the usual hibachi entertainment and staff is always super friendly! This time we ordered take out, and it's never as good as being in person, but all the items we ordered were correct. I used to go to Ichiban quite regularly when I worked over at Saint Joe's. Some of my coworkers really loved the grilled items. I have always been a sushi girl. it's been a while since I've been to Ichiban so I decided to give it a whirl. The Did Cora look pretty much unchanged since the last time I was there. I ordered a carry out for two pieces of salmon nigiri, one piece of scallop and a rainbow roll. The salmon was tender, the scallop was tender and buttery. I was not as happy with the rainbow roll. Some people may like it this way but I like my California rolls and rainbow rolls to have crabs salad in them. I think that the krab stick alone is just too dry. But that's my tastes you might like it other ways. It was a carry out order so I can't comment on the beer selection. But it was a solid meal and I would go back again. read more

I decided to check out Ichiban at this location after a decision based on getting out. We were seated fairly quickly within 10 minutes. It took a minute for the waitress to help us but we were patient. Last time I sat at the grill but this time was a booth. I ordered some sushi as an appetizer. It was pretty good. Fresh and well prepared. I also got the shrimp and filet hibachi. The filet was supposed to be medium but was a little more well done than expected. We had a terrible experience at this restaurant. I hope you have a whole afternoon to wait for other patrons to show up before they take your order. We waited 45 minutes for other people to show up so they could "fill a table," only to be told by Madison the manager that it would take another 15 minutes for the grill to warm up. Unfortunately I don't have hours to do lunch. They need to figure out a rhythm to serve customers without waiting for hours for a table to be full. I've come here before but I won't be back anytime soon. I was definitely not impressed. The last time I went, we had a waitress that had bandage on her hand and when she brought my food, ended up touching my food with the bandage.
