Had a very good dinner here. Everything was good. Nothing was bad. Our service was good. Our waiter was polite, attentive, and friendly. Although there isn't a dedicated lot, there are lots nearby for parking. It's pretty pricey and everything is a la carte but it's good quality food. My roasted chicken was cooked very well and the cheddar potatoes au gratin were very tasty. I really have no complaints. If you're wanting a nice dinner in a classy environment, you should definitely try Chop House.

I want to preface this review that this restaurant is built on luxury and service. The food is wonderful and everything is prepared with a purpose, which is why it is so expensive. It has the feel of a old, but classy steakhouse and has a bar in the restaurant. The lighting is dim, which I prefer for a dinner like this. It's not loud, which is a good thing if you are paying this much money for a date night or nice dinner. I would recommended, but be weary of the spending. Also, the seafood tower is amazing.

The service from Raymond J was amazing. Food was on point and the ambience was great. Value was fair

The serving staff is absolutely wonderful, the lobster bisque was average, The Mac n Cheese was above average, the crème brûlée was excellent (I actually will just come back for dessert next time) I left the restaurant with a cigarette stink on my coat and clothes after one basement bathroom trip but that's on me, not having done my research before.

Service and ambiance were top notch. Staff all around were fabulous. The food for the price point was just okay. Lobster bisque (not pictured) was good and the complimentary bread was very unique tasting. Surf n' turf with filet mignon and lobster tail was mediocre. Lobster was tuff and filet lacked a wow factor. Mudslide cheesecake tasted like it was previously a frozen cake and leaned more like a regular cheesecake then mudslide flavors. My rating weighs more on disappointment with food.

TLDR: the food fails to meet the same quality as its service. Overall Rating: 2.5/10 Amount Spent: ~$170 for 2 people (including tax and tip) -- Wish I could rate this place higher. The service? Id give it a solid 9/10, although they did have a mishap or two, they were on top of their game tonight. What knocked off that last point was 2 things: - When we ordered our steak, we asked for it cooked to a medium, but apparently they don't offer that and our waiter never bothered to mention that to us (found out when the steak came to the table) - When something across the dining room dropped, a few of the waiters sighed very heavily and made random noises (even rolled their eyes). Not saying they shouldn't have those emotions, but it's just not something I want to see or hear when I'm eating, especially in an establishment like this. But even with the service being as good as it was... I come to restaurants for the food, not the service. The food: Hard 4.5/10, reaching 5 to 5.5 Don't get me wrong, it wasn't an entire disappointment, the crab/lobster cakes and the lobster bisque were great (although I do wish the bisque had more lobster, it had body, and that made up for it). Although I wouldn't recommend coming here, if you end up still going: I'd say those are two things that you DEFINITELY have to order... Now here's why I say you shouldn't come here. For a steak house, you'd think they know how to cook their steaks to any temp. We asked for our steak to be cooked to a medium (since my S/O prefers to not eat overly "red" meat) but the steak came out blue - medium rare. A gradient cook isn't the worst, but the fact that it was blue and the waiter had the audacity to tell us that it was "true medium rare" is crazy talk. I've been on the grill since I was 8, I know what medium rare looks like. Wish I took a picture of the actual meat rather than just having a shot of the bone, but trust me, it looked virtually identical. When we sent it back we expected a re-fire since it was pre sliced, but they simply reheated the same steak again, so it came out tough, chewy, and over cooked this time. 3/10 Note: steak was extra salty as well, which is ironic, since the two sides we ordered with it had virtually no seasoning. The sides? Ordered the 3 cheese Mac and the wild sautéed mushrooms. 3 cheese mac was cooked well, but had literally no flavor. 5.5/10 Wild mushrooms look good, but that's all it has. No seasoning and half of it was undercooked. Not really fun chewing into raw, under seasoned mushrooms on your anniversary dinner. 4/10

This is a very definition of well put together steakhouse. For their price, what you get as far as a portion and quality wise is amazing. We went there with local friends who frequent this place. Service was great with a good recommendation from their wait staff, and their honest and knowledge about different items made my decision making easy. Their seafood selection tasted fresh, and their new york strip was amazing. And their side items were delicious. I also liked that I could wear my casual clothes. Very mixed vibes but overall luxurious dimly lit environment made it very calm evening. Their cigar bar downstairs sounds interesting as well.

I will start by saying I don't typically go to many fancy steakhouses so take this review with a grain of salt. I came here solely because my little brother wanted to go to a "fancy" steakhouse and not a chain like Texas Roadhouse. My fiancé and I ordered the beef Wellington and the salmon. We split half-and-half and they were nice enough to split it for us! My brother and his girlfriend got steaks, I believe he got the Wagyu and she got the filet. We also ordered 3 sides to share - brussels sprouts, potatoes au gratin, and mac & cheese. I will say all the food was delicious and the service was immaculate. I can understand why people would go to a fancy steakhouse! Would I come back? Maybe. I would come back for another special occasion, but this is not a restaurant that I would go to just to have because I was hungry. Everything was honestly amazing, but the bill for 4 people was over $500. But also keep in mind, my brother's Wagyu was $100 just for the steak so it's possible this could've been a little cheaper. Personally, I don't think it's worth it, but for another special occasion, I would come back, I have no complaints!

I'd rate it a 4.5. This is my sister and her finances favorite steak place in the area. The main dishes and sides were all pretty much amazing. The service was very good. It reminds me of service at top Michelin restaurants. However, I didn't care so much for the Cesar salad. Pretty disappointed in it given how good everything else was.

Special occasion place for a delicious dinner. Love that the delicious cheese popovers they serve to start are gluten free. They were very helpful with our food allergy (gluten). The chicken and crab/lobster cakes were delicious! Also appreciated the chocolate truffles they served us to celebrate a special event.

    Jessica C.

Fancy ambiance with a capital F - this is a grad dinner or a special anniversary dinner. The wagyu steak was so well marbled - the first few bites were heaven and then it got a little greasy, which the sides helped with. The bone in was juicy and well cooked. Staff was attentive, recommended great sauces to pair with steak, and were overall pleasant and friendly.

Cozy steakhouse atmosphere with accommodating, professional, welcoming service. Delicious lobster bisque and great steak and mushrooms. Latte good too. All enjoyed their steaks which were well-cooked and very tasty!

The Chop House Reviews in Other Languages

Ask the Community - The Chop House

Is it true that you have discontinued the Birthday Special ?!?!?!?!

Yes, we went on 6/9/21, no discount. Not worth $185 for two with only 1 cocktail.

I heard that none of the main street venture restaurants, including the chop house are offering their birthday deal anymore. Is this true?

I think it's true! I was just about to make a birthday reservation when I happened upon reviews complaining that they were not told until the bill arrived.

I know happy hour is till 7 on weekdays, is it only at the bar area though?

    Yes. In the bar area

How much are the steaks generally?

Steaks are $50 and up. That does not include any sides/salads/soup! Just a white plate with a drawing of a bull.

Coming in from Dallas, cannot seem to tell how the dress attire would be for this place. We go to a lot of high end steakhouses that all allow nice dark, blue jeans/boots/nice shirt. Would that work for my husband here?

The outfit you describe would work perfectly. We were there in the summer and I had casual linen trousers. You may see other patrons wearing jeans as well.

AMBIANCE = 4 I have read reviews that inside is dated. I am ok with it. The changes going on in Ann Arbor. It is nice to see stability. Be thankful a place weathering city transformation and not closing thier doors. If things get renovated so do the prices. With the price of food... 2. FOOD/DRIINKS = 4 I had Salomon. Other two had White Fish. London Broil. No one had any complaints. Food was well flavored and enjoyed the meal. Beer was Two Hearted on tap. Good. Red wine was house and had robust flavor. 3. SERVICE = 5 Our server was on top of everything. Friendly. Not overbearing. Drinks came in good order as well as food. 4. BATHROOM = 4 Clean and maintained. 5. PRICING = 3 On part for the times we live in. Inflation of the last 4 years created new norms. One area that tends to change is tipping. With wages for michigan getting to $15.00 all that has to play into pricing. So I give cash tips. The whole thing of putting tip pricing on the bill. I think many see it. 1. Brussel sprout appt. $15.00. 2. Meals were $27.00. If you went with steaks things get pricey. But if one follows news the beef herds are being reduced. So days of low cost beef meals are in the past. We just do not eat out as much so when we do it is a treat. 6. OBSERVATION The bar area was full. What I liked for a Thursday night is number of trades people at the bar. Parking is adequate. Not sure what a Friday or Saturday would look like... We were seated at table near bar area. One comment was we would have choose a booth the next time. Noise level in our area was loud. 7. I'm not a fan of convenience fee, if they are trying to offset the credit card charges or adjust their prices due to the inflation or higher material costs, they should just raise their prices to offset those. I also didn't see anything about convenience fee being added, granted if it was in a smaller print so I could have missed it. It seems everyone is adding on convenience fee to everything.

On a recent visit, the music wasn't my favorite, the musicians were definitely talented but a bit too much self-indulgent horn playing that wasn't always pleasing to my ear. But of course your music experience will vary from night-to-night. Drinks & wine list were nice and service was good initially but disappeared when the first set was getting close and I went at least 20-30 minutes with an empty drink glass plus it was about 45 minutes between our first and second courses being served. Only as we were getting close to the end of the first set did servers again reappear to quickly get us our last 2 prix fixe courses and be able to turn our table before the next set. I had heard good things about the food and was looking forward to eating here in addition to the music. Unfortunately the food was a disappointment for me and just about every dish was under-seasoned. The one hit was my wife's branzino, while the one big miss was the red beans & rice add-on to the prix fixe menu - I mean, nobody in NOLA would pay $28 for red beans but if we did I would surely expect more than a few tiny pieces of sausage and to not have undercooked rice and undercooked beans plus need more salt and acid. Brussels were fine but again missing salt and ideally a bit of acid while the pork chop was somewhat fatty but cooked well however other flavors & textures on the plate just weren't very exciting. I would consider coming back to Blue Llama for the right show and the ambience is great, but would probably choose to eat elsewhere. Maybe it was just a bad night in the kitchen, who knows but I'm not inclined to return for dinner again.

We did 2 paellas and like 8 tapas which was enough for everyone. Even with a bottle of wine and couple of drinks it was very reasonably priced. Great service. Fun atmosphere. We may have been a tad loud but it was so fun! Highly recommend. Will be go to Ann Arbor recommendation. Sorry no pictures, too busy getting after it.

We celebrated a bday and my cousin got a churros- which was TO DIE FOR! Soft and crunchy, melt in your mouth. Nice cinnamon and sugar with a dark chocolate ganache dip. Great combo of sweet and savory! We had the blue tuna tapa and it was soft and delicate. We shared but I really think it's a one person dish. The steak with romesco sauce tapas was OK but not my favorite. The meat was too chewy for me. Good size to share The tiny starters: glazed pineapple on goat cheese crostini was good but not worth re-ordering. Yes- shareable. The star is the oxtail paella!! Wow, rich, crunch, juicy and the vinegar from the peppers was a great compliment. Good drinks and wine selections. Next time I'll stick with the seafood selections and the oxtail paella.
