So I chose Hanna based on 1) the pictures of women here and on her site looked like actual, lovely women and not weird dolls and 2) 5-star reviews. My experience: My wedding was plagued with rather insensitive visiting in laws (example, showed up two hour late for our wedding breakfast, and then "joking" that I was rude for running out the door to get my nails done. Also texted us at 8:00 am the day AFTER our wedding - ummm, honeymoon anyone? to find out where we were going to meet them for breakfast...anyway). So unexpectedly, I was a bit stressed and a few minutes late coming back for my make up appointment by the time Hanna arrived (SHE was exactly on time). I had e-mailed some ideas to her previously and all of our communications were pleasant and prompt. But in person was even nicer. Instantly in her presence on that stupid stressful day I started to relax, she was calm, smiling and ready to work. Even though I made us start late (so sorry!!) she didn't give me any grief for it and got it all done on time. I needed that so much. And she's just a nice person. She kept chatting in a soft voice to my curls while she was pinning them up..."Okay curl, you tell me how you would like to sit, okay, like that? Oh you look nice now"...it was crazy soothing. I suggest looking long and hard at the one star reviews. I was left looking like I was going to 90's prom and this is not an exaggeration - overly curled hair and very basic makeup. I felt like I had to micromanage the stylist and she asked few questions when we started about what I wanted. At one point I asked her to fix my eyeliner because it was smudged under my eye, so she fixed it and left another smudge while doing so. Her first attempt looked like it was drawn with crayon. I had sent them Pinterest boards prior and it looked nothing like it. Used really basic curling techniques I felt I could have done myself and many of the hair products were what I consider to be cheap drugstore brands - I was left with stiff, sad-looking hair with frizz. I wanted to cry when I saw it and deeply regretted not having just used my Airwrap and doing my makeup myself. My friend and I had to attempt to fix it ourselves. I think I had the worst hair in the room at my own wedding. Furthermore, shortly after writing a review, I received a cease & remove email from the salon threatening legal action and claiming false statements were made. I believe this shows a lot about the integrity of the company and am truly disappointed in my experience with them.

It's in June, a wedding peak month, so after calling so many makeup artists recommended online, Chimi was the only one who called me back. I booked with her for a 3-hour lesson. We met at a conference room in her apartment complex. When I arrived, she had prepared everything and set up everything we needed. Before the lesson, she texted me to bring my own makeup and skin care products to the lesson, so I also brought my own. She carefully reviewed what I had used, and she gave me her advice on those products based on my skin conditions. We started from the basic skin care routine as getting well-conditioned skin is the foundation of pretty makeup. Then she applied makeup on my half face to explain to me all the techniques. After she finished my half face, I followed her instructions to apply the other half face. I am not a crafty person, so I kind of had a hard time on detailed eye makeup. Chimi was able to use a technique that simplified the process but achieved the same result, which was amazing. She also went over my current makeup products to tell me which one didn't work for me and which one I should use more. The advice helped me get rid of unnecessary makeup things but keep the essential things. We actually used more than 3 hours as planned. I was a bit anxious, but Chimi told me not to worry as she's happy to extend longer time to make sure that I learned what I needed. We had lots of fun doing makeup together, and I did learn a good makeup lesson. I am now confident to apply my own makeup for the photo day!
