She is very nice and probably gave me a good cut but my hair is too fried to tell. I never use heat and haven't done highlights in a few years so it was fairly healthy. When I did get it dyed a few years ago it still looked healthy and kept the curl. Having curly healthy hair is very important to me and since leaving this salon I've worn it up every day. It is super dry and lifeless. I paid a LOT of money for subtly highlights and a deva trim. I will defiantly have to get it cut much shorter which is painful for someone with curly hair to do. The products used were top of the line so maybe it was too strong or needed less time on my type of hair. I asked for half off since I will need to get it cut again, but she nicely said sorry for my hair being dry after the treatment and left it at that. I saw Penny last night for a curly haircut and I do not have enough good things to say! I showed Penny a few inspiration photos and goals I had for my hair and she delivered. She was super knowledgeable about curls and specific products that would be good for my hair and why. The appointment was very thorough and she taught me how to get the same results at home. The good: This was my first ever wavy hair haircut and I was really excited! Overall I really liked the experience. Penny is super social, very talkative and friendly. She knows a ton about ingredients and why this will be good or bad for your hair, which I really appreciated. She used high end products and a day after cutting/washing and styling my hair, when I'm writing this review, it feels soft and not brittle or damaged (which my hair unfortunately is). Tips: In any business there is room for improvement right :)? So here are a couple of things I noticed: 1) I have really damaged and tangled hair. You can brush through it once, but by the time you add another product it will be tangled again. Really frustrating, I completely understand. Penny added a $40 hair mask, but she didn't tell me until I saw the specifications on the bill. I would've totally agreed to it, being that my hair is dry but I would've liked if she asked me if this was okay before adding it. 2) Since it was my first time committing to the curly girl method (or just styling my wavy hair in general), I wanted more of a play-by-play about how to use products and which ones to use. We did go over a couple but I think I needed more time and really an in depth tutorial from a professional. But we just didn't have that time I think! read more

I got my hair cut by Penny B. last month on October 20th. Despite being an hour late in our two-hour window (due to getting the wrong directions on my app...twice...), Penny still graciously cut my hair and it is WONDERFUL. It was more than a hair cut--it was a whole lesson and educational experience on how to take care of my curls! in the few weeks since my haircut, I found that I can now go four days on average between washes (compared to previously washing on every third day). My curls have a consistently better structure to them now (with less frizz!). I purchased two of her products and plan to stick with them. If I could make one suggestion, it would be to do away with the StyleSeat app. I had trouble contacting Penny to let her know I was running late. The app sent me a text with the address, but when I clicked on it Google Maps sent me waaaay far south in the industrial pits of Seattle. I remember wishing that I had a phone number to call, but it was impossible to find. I also have an additional $9.99 charge for just using the StyleSeat app (which, I hope isn't a recurring charge). Other than that, I hope to be able to book Penny again for a future cut! read more

The wash was good but that is the only thing that I left thinking. I'm honestly so upset with this hair cut and the money I was charged, I left the place crying. Penny did not listen to me when I told her to not cut my hair a certain way or else it would end up uneven, and sure enough it turned out terrible. Let me start with the thesis of my review for those of you without the time to read all the arguments I'm going to make on this review. Penny B Salon is an establishment that will not treat you as a human. They have put a machine above a customer and have lost this customer on the process. Now the way things happen are as follows. I was walking around the neighborhood and stop by the salon because their branding caught my attention. The salon brands itself as a curly hair salon and I have very curly hair. I talk to one of the stylist in the salon and she told me she could not make an appointment for me I had to do it online. This created a barrier for me to use this service but I decided that it was ok since a good curly hair stylist is something I value highly. My last stylist cut my hair for 10 years so I understand how important they are. After a couple of weeks I finally was able to sit down and try to make my appointment on my home laptop. After three times trying to set up the appointment I gave up since the system keep rebooting on the last steps. I was worry since this website did took my credit card number so I investigated more about "style seat" . In my research I found out that this is an app that hair professionals use to set their appointments and do other services with them. I try looking for a phone number for this website but even in gethuman a website that finds customer service phone numbers couldn't find it. I did send them an email but to this day I haven't had a response. I continue my life and today I got a text from who I assume is the owner of Penny B Salon letting me know that I was a no show and I would be charge for my visit. I explain the situation to her in a number of text but at no point of the text did she offer to call style seat or remedy my issue or even give me a call to her my side of the story. Her solution was after you pay for this visit you can make another appointment the same way I had just fail to do so. I understand that she must be paid for her lost time and that is not the issue. What I cannot comprehend is why no solution was offer to me. I clearly had a problem with the app maybe another way to contact them for an appointment would it been all I needed to take this negative experience and turn it into a positive. But who I assume is Penny didn't do that. After she just ignored my last text she went ahead and alert the system to charge me. I finally was contacted by style seat via email to let me know that Penny B was going to charge me 20 dollars cancellation fee plus 17.50 for a adjustment fee. That means that she not only charge me a cancellation fee but added 17.50 to the bill. On top of all of this there is an automatic 4 dollar tip that I cannot take out because when I click on the edit tip button it sends me to the style seat site and we have the same problem system just drops out and wants me to do a new application. Now the 37.50 charge is the least of my worries I can dispute that with my credit card company and after a bit of explaining I'm sure I'll get my money back. What really made me create this review is the fact that an app is more important to Penny that a customer. We live in an age that many of the big business have taken the stand of not helping customers navigate their technology and just create tricks to keep the money. Style seat is a business that acts in this manner. That is why they don't have a customer service number, they don't care about resolving issues with their technology. What saddest me most is the attitude this small business owner took with me. At the end I'm a person and she is a person I'm sure we could had reach an agreement. Maybe just a phone call to show that in the end they understood my issues. I will not use this person services because if they are this inflexible at dealing with a computer error I cannot imagine what happens if something goes wrong with your hair. How can you communicate to somebody without empathy what you need with your hair something that is very personal to many of us. read more

Mimi is one of the most incredible and talented people I know! I have been working with her for a few years now after a traumatizing experience at another salon. Mimi and I have worked together to get my hair exactly how I want it to be; a beautiful ombré and custom color. She does beautiful color which includes unique, custom painted hair/ highlights. The coloring is gorgeous and she always finds a way to to make my hair look incredible all the while keeping the integrity of my hair/ keeping it looking healthy. Her schedule is flexible, her rates reasonable and she's very dependable. The salon also has the cutest little salon dog that will melt your heart. Even had time to chat with Penny B/ the original salon professional herself and she was as sweet as can be. All of her clients that came in and out of the salon seemed really happy with their experiences as well. Really the cherry on top of my 5 star experience at my last trip this week. Parking is easy in a residential part of the area too. All in all, Mimi is the best at all things hair and you should def make an appointment with her. read more

Went in for a cut and color with Mimi tonight, and per usual, everything exceeded expectations! I love her new digs at Penny B and am SO GLAD I tracked her down when she left Olive nearby. Mimi is the stylist I've always looked for -- she's fun, talented AF, and doesn't make me feel intimidated when I ask dumb questions about hair. On top of it all, she has a heart of gold.
