I do not recommend this hair salon because of the prejudice and dishonesty. Upon arriving in the salon Jebarco gave me the once over, twice over, hell-no-it's all over you can't come in here look. Jebarco made it plain that I was not welcome in the salon and his negative vibes indicated that this salon definitely did not want my business. Next, Lily made boldface untruths to my face about why she cancelled my appointment. Lily shifted the blame onto me with the claim that she had to cancel because I did not confirm the appointment within the 48 hour window. Lily cancelled the appointment because of her prejudice she holds against someone she does not know and does not like. I recognize when boldly speaks untruths to my face, they have no respect. When any business owner/service provider boldly chooses to hold prejudices against customers for no reason because they do not want that person in their salon and then openly disrespects them by boldly lying to them in their faces, that business owner/service provider does not have any respect for themselves and other people. read more

Lily and her assistant are very sweet, but I felt misled by the services she claimed to offer. As a woman with type 4 hair, it is extremely hard to find a hairdresser who truly knows how to handle my hair, and unfortunately I did not feel as though Lily knew what to do with my hair. I received a deva cut and "style": my hair was very uneven upon leaving the salon. My hair was not styled, but left to harden and dry tangled and shrunken. I showed Lily the way I wanted my hair styled and she basically told me it wasn't possible, though I have done the style myself many times. Finally I was uncomfortable at a salon called "Texture" that the owner did not know what shea butter is, as it is a staple for most type 4 hair types. I felt as though I was more knowledgeable than her about how to manage type 4 hair, and that made me uncomfortable. The salon was very cute and very clean, again Lily and her assistant that day were quite nice. I also felt like she had great general hair knowledge, and appreciated her taking the time to explain the things she knew. I just don't think for the price I paid that I would come back, and I'd advise if you have a type 4 hair pattern to be cautious. read more

If I could give this place a zero I would. I have not had my hair done in over five years. I have a TWA and was very excited to finally get treated to a much-needed shampoo and deep conditioning. I walked into the salon and was greeted with a blank stare from a stylist. No "hello" "how are you" "how do you do", just a blank stare until I said, "I am here for an appointment". I scheduled and confirmed an appointment for 3:30 PM to get two simple services. I arrived at 3:25 PM and was waiting in the lounge until 4:00 pm before I left, so who knows how long I would have been waiting if I haven't left. This deeply upsets me as I see from other customer reviews that they have not experienced this. Why was I the exception today? I understand that sometimes stylists can overbook which can lead to long wait times but at least give me a heads up like "hey sorry there will be a wait", but nope I guess that was too hard. If a customer is 30 minutes late for an appointment you would lose your spot. So what is the reason for you basically ghosting me? I texted Patrick asking to reschedule but I have not received a response back and I probably won't after this review which is fine. In conclusion, I would not recommend this salon to other black women and I will def not be coming back. The customer service is obviously abysmal. You'll get better customer service from African braiders. read more

This review is for two different experiences 1) Lily's braid class & 2) Patrick straightening & trimming my natural hair. Braid Class- I'm a Licensed Cosmetologist & anomaly Black girl who can't braid, I took the class to expand my skillset for my clients. I arrived a little late but Lily helped me find the shop. It was just me & her so she gave me full attention- she was very reassuring yet stern in keeping my finger positions & tension in good position along with product suggestions. We also bonded over both being educators in the beauty industry. At the end I could cornrow, she provided diagrams, recorded me working on video, and answered all my questions. Key is practice! Make sure you have a mannequin or human model to keep it up! Since the class I've put my skills to use on both a tv pilot & a very demanding advertising job. Without Lily I would've failed on a high stakes. Lily will accommodate to your needs whether you're a pro, a parent learning for your child, or just having fun. Can't wait to come back to learn feed ins! Hair Cut- I have slight hair trauma from having my near waist length hair chopped to shoulder length last Spring. Communication on my part, still sucks. Patrick gave a great, unrushed deep condition, was patient with my sensitive scalp, touched up my side shave, and gave a lovely trim without going overboard. He's very sweet, quiet, chill and put up with my silly talk. Definitely my new salon & stylist! read more

We were greeted warmly, the space is bright and comfortable, and, OF COURSE, Lily took incredible care of my baby's curls. I've been going to Chantel and Lily for about a year for loc maintenance and I've got nothing but great things to say! They are just wonderful people. I've had a few pinches where they've both been able to get me in with short notice. They work fast but you don't feel rushed. My locs look great. I got them started elsewhere and went to them after three months in and they've ushered me through the transition phase. 5-stars would recommend! read more

I really wanted to like Texture but I can't in good conscience go back to this place. Lily is very friendly and provides great gossip and conversation but my experience with her handling my 4b-4c hair was disappointing. Since moving to Seattle, I've been very hesitant to go to any salons knowing that kinky curly hair isn't everyone's specialty. I decided to try out Texture and was automatically given Lily as my stylist when booking my appointment. I then did my research on her work and was pretty pleased. The onboarding stages were smooth. I arrived 15 minutes early and was greeted with a mask-covered smile and told to wash my hands. Great, they value cleanliness! After she finished with her client, she shampooed and deep conditioned, and trimmed my hair. All great since she is very gentle and explains everything as she goes along, especially at the trimming stage. The problem arises at the blowout and flat iron stages. The amount of heat being applied to my hair was appalling and the flat ironing technique was disappointing. There was no style to it. My hair didn't turn out interesting, it was just flat. If Lily needed a photo reference of what I meant by light curls, I would've gladly provided one. I feel like this salon suits hairstyles below 4a or if you're only interested in braiding then this is the place for you. In the end, I feel a little mislead. Note: Look into investing in a hydrator. I would've gladly paid extra for that service but didn't see it in the service menu. read more

I was coming to see the owner for a bit when the salon I had been going to was not open due to the pandemic. She did a great job with the color of my hair. Quality was good. I would have most likely kept coming if this didn't happen. On my last appointment, she texted me she was running 20 min late. No problem. Im totally ok with that and can usually be very flexible and understand, this happens! Especially in this industry. So I arrive 20 min past my original appointment time. I'm waiting outside, it's cold. But there is a limit to the number of people they want in the salon. Finally after standing there for at least 20 minutes.... Which is now 40 min past my appointment time, I'm getting frustrated. Finally, her assistant notices and waves me in. So I sit there... in this tiny salon.... Waiting. No acknowledgment that I've been waiting. No apologies about the delay. Im starting to fume inside. By the time I get in the chair,.., it's one hour and 20 minutes past my original appointment time. Do you know what happened to me when I was almost more that 15 min late to another salon (that shall not be named)???? They were going to charge me for the full appointment. Literally could not be one minute past that or they'd cancel me and charge me. I stopped going there after that happened. Sooo... back to this salon... I get in the chair, she's so nonchalant, like it's no big deal. I am way too nice... understanding. But I go with it because I know stuff happens and this job is NOT easy. I couldn't believe it when some other client was late but still needed to get in and they fit her in, my stylist started working on her because she had some event but yet was totally late to her appointment, so her assistant had to finish with me. No apologies, no discount. NOTHING. I tipped... but not like I normally would and I'm a great tipper. I really should not have tipped at all. I should have gotten upset and been vocal about it. But... I know, at the end of the day, at this particular salon.... It wouldn't have made much of a difference. My best move was to find another salon or go back to my other salon... now that they were finally open (note: not the salon with the 15 min situation... which I'm never late to appointments and the fact that I got caught up at work one time and was a little late because the bus I was on was stuck in traffic! Plus that stylist was messy and I always had to clean up her color on my face around my hairline-which I've NEVER had to do, ever!) THANK GOD I DID!!! My current salon doesn't treat their clients like that and I'm so glad they opened back up just in time for me to come back. So worth it. I don't appreciate being treated this way. I literally would be fired if I ever behaved or treated clients in this manner. It's really hard to find a great stylist you connect to. In the past, my relationships with my stylists have been very long term. I find one and stick with them... FOR YEARS! They become a friend and I love them. Longest relationship I've had has been over 6 years! I was moving away, otherwise, I'd still be seeing her! I treat my "care takers" well. That relationship means a lot to me and I appreciate their talents. But if you make me wait for 1hr 40 min with no apologies, or anything.... You will never see my face again. The braiding class is AMAZING. I have attended both the entry-level braiding class as well as the Master-braiding class. They were both AMAZING. The progression of activities/lessons are perfect. Lily gives every student enough attention and time to work to independently and practice. She redirects student in a way that gets them right back on track. I left being able to part the hair, and successfully cornrow it. I can do the feed-ins and know exactly what to practice in the future. read more

I had a great experience here. Lily was very nice, knowledgeable, and gave me lots of information on hair care, styling, and what color would be best for me based on the look, feel, and health of my hair and she definitely had my best interest in mind. She knows what she's doing and I'm very happy with the way my hair turned out. I got a full Balayage for the first time and I was really nervous because I didn't know what to expect but she walked me through every step of the process and made my experience fun. I will be back. Lily is wonderful! I attended the cornrow 101 class on a Sunday and it was great. She is true to her promise that you will leave being able to cornrow and to feed in hair. She was incredibly patient and reassuring. She took the time to ask me questions and check my understanding. She asked me about my family and my daughter's hair and really took the time to find out what I already knew, why I was taking the class, and what skills I wanted to work on. She left me with practice tips and encouraged me to send her pictures of my progress and to reach out if I had questions. I came into TEXTURE thinking I wanted silver hair, but Lily respectfully explained to me not why silver would look bad, but how it would've washed me out and ruined my curl pattern. This was my very first time coming here and my stylist was Hewe. Upon arrival, I was greeted and asked to wash my hands due to the current pandemic then I was offered refreshments and a seat to wait for my stylist in. The shop is small but beautiful and they offer a very personalized experience. Hewe was very friendly and reassured me that she knew how to handle my hair type. She is originally from Ethiopia and has extensive knowledge on my hair type (I am a mixed black woman) and she has learned a lot about other hair types as well (I know this from the diverse conversation we were having). I am ABSOLUTELY Ecstatic that I found Texture and HeWe. Lilly wasn't my stylist but she was so very sweet and you can tell that she is genuinely a beautiful person. I will continue to come to this salon and support small black/minority business all while knowing that my experience will always be a great one as long as I'm coming here.
