Kate Middleton inspired updo for my wedding!
Jen T.

Cherry is an absolute pleasure to work with to create the perfect bridal look. First of all, she is up to date on current trends and uses only the best makeup and products on her clients. She is also very hygienic with her techniques; as a bacteriologist, I really appreciated this. And although I got my hair cut and thinned before my wedding, it was still incredibly thick and a bit difficult to work with. I had picked out a different updo style in her salon, but she suggested I try a Kate Middleton-inspired style instead on the day of. I agreed and working quickly she made my hair look amazing and just like the Duchess'. It stayed all day (asian weddings can be an all day occasion, but not one hair was out of place) -even at the end of the reception. Similarly, my airbrush makeup was flawless and beautiful lashes stayed put all day. But don't take my word for it, check out Miss Washington, who gets her pageant makeup done exclusively by Cherry. But best of all, when Cherry came early in the morning to do my makeup and hair (and my mother's!) I did not feel like I was simply a client. She had brought her sweet mother, because they had plans later that morning. It felt like having aunts preparing me for my most important day, easing my nerves with kind words and making sure I look as beautiful as possible even though we shared a only short hour or so together. For me, the wedding dress was secondary to the makeup and hair. A bride can wear the simplest or most ornate dress, but she and everyone else will look at her face first. Deciding on Pure Beauty was one of my best wedding investments.

Learning how to use an airbrush for foundation (this is before any shading).

The infrared saunas here are hot but a nice way to relax and detox!…read more I received a gift card to try this place out from an acquaintance, so decided to swing by. We booked an infrared sauna session (sweat with a friend) for the evening. This location is tucked away in a small strip mall and once you arrive, you are greeted, sign a form, and remove your shoes before entering the main area. The sauna space was nicely organized. There are sauna booths that are separated and have a little bit of space diretly in front of the sauna entrance covered by a curtain that allows you to undress and store your belongings. In our space, we had a timer, a call button for the front desk, a mini fridge with cold hand towels, a sign with all the different color options for the chromotherapy, and a small bench/basket for your belongings. As someone who does not regularly go to saunas, I had to take several breaks throughout the 45-minute session, but it definitely did its job and had me sweating! We enjoyed being able to adjust the colors for the chromotherapy as well. After our session, we were able to rinse off in the shower, and there is a sand room in the back where they set up some non-caffeinated tea for you to decompress. I enjoyed this part because the sand was so smooth and soft, and they do their best to create a calm ambience in the room even if you are just looking at a mural of the ocean. Some downsides for me personally: I felt the space was a bit small and cramped. Each sauna and other offered services are in small box-like rooms that aren't full rooms (the walls do not reach the ceiling). There was only one shower room, and the sand room was a bit tight (only 4 seats). I'd be curious to see if the other locations have a similar or different layout. Additionally, because the walls of the rooms do not reach the ceiling, nothing is soundproof. You can still hear some noise from other folks while in your sauna and are encouraged to keep noise to a minimum to maintain a calm and relaxing atmosphere. Lastly, I believe there is supposed to be a way to connect a bluetooth device in your sauna as advertised on the website, but we couldn't really figure out and weren't sure if it was a good idea to bring any devices in as it was super hot. That said, it wasn't something we absolutely needed so we just decided to hop in and enjoy the sweat. We enjoyed our infrared sauna and would recommend it if it is something you are looking to do regularly. It looked like they had several different membership options that give you access to different services each month.

I rarely leave reviews like this, but our experience at Truce was disappointing enough that I feel…read moreprospective guests should know what they are actually booking. First, calling this a "spa" feels generous. We had planned a girls' spa day, and one of the amenities we were particularly looking forward to was the red light therapy that Truce advertises. When we arrived, we learned that the red light equipment had been recalled and was unavailable. No one had contacted us ahead of time to let us know. When I pointed out that guests should have been notified before their appointments so they could decide whether they still wanted to come, the response was essentially, "You never told us you wanted to use the red light." That is an extraordinary response when it is an advertised amenity of the facility. Guests should not have to individually announce in advance which advertised spa amenities they might like to use in order to be informed that those amenities are unavailable. Unfortunately, that was only the beginning. Approximately three hours before my appointment, I called because I was dealing with a medical emergency and could no longer attend. I understood that Truce has a cancellation policy and that I might still be charged. What I did not expect was for them to make one of my friends pay my $160 massage fee -- despite having my credit card on file. Their explanation was that once I canceled, my card had somehow been removed or canceled from the appointment. If you are going to enforce a full-price cancellation charge, then charge the card the guest provided. Requiring another member of the party to pay someone else's $160 bill was unnecessary, embarrassing, and incredibly poor customer service. I have since contacted the manager twice, asking for something very simple: credit my friend's card for the charge and allow me to pay the $160 myself using my own credit card. Both attempts have gone unanswered. That is perhaps the most disappointing part. Mistakes and poor decisions happen. Good customer service is demonstrated by how a business responds when given an opportunity to correct them. In this case, management has had two opportunities to resolve a very straightforward issue and has simply chosen not to respond. The experience for the friends who did attend wasn't exactly luxurious either. The "relaxation room" apparently has no door, no snacks, no magazines or other touches one would normally associate with a higher-end spa -- just tea. Even worse, conversations from the front desk carried directly into the room, including a loud personal phone conversation that was decidedly not relaxing or professional. During the massage itself, loud bass/electronic music from the neighboring venue could be heard strongly enough to compete with the spa music. For a facility located in a high-end hotel in downtown Bellevue, the entire experience was surprisingly amateurish. A true spa experience is about more than providing a massage. It is the environment, amenities, professionalism, communication, hospitality, and attention to detail surrounding the treatment. Truce missed the mark on nearly every one of those things. We expected a relaxing girls' spa day. What we received was an unavailable advertised amenity with no advance notice, an astonishing response when we questioned that lack of notice, questionable cancellation handling, management that has ignored two attempts to resolve the resulting billing issue, a decidedly un-relaxing environment, and a level of service nowhere near what the location and pricing suggest. There are too many excellent spas in the Seattle/Bellevue area to justify paying premium prices for this experience.

There really is no miss (at least I haven't had one yet) Some staff are a bit better at certain things but overall they are all incredibly professional and accommodating. My personal favorite is Kali but I've also enjoyed being seen by whoever has availability which in my case were Anne and Tina and they were both great as well. Speaking of availability, they aren't that hard to get into which is so rare considering how great they are. I love the culture they've created at the spa, it's very soothing relaxing and quiet and must I say how refreshing it is not having to keep up the small talk during your service. As a busy mom of 2, I just love having to check out and be on my phone while getting pampered. And lastly, everything is eco friendly and organic with top notch ingredients. Place is beautiful in and out and they've been in busy for years so I don't see any of it changing considering the track record thus far. Definitely give them a try :)
