2nd Update (7.4.26) The business owner has just replied to my review update from yesterday after months. Her statements are not true. It is unfortunate that she is resorting to misinformation to redirect blame vs just taking accountability for a costly mistake she made that doesn't affect her. It's a reflection on the professional. At the appointment, she didn't make time for a conversation and didn't even look at the pictures properly, let alone remembering enough after months to say that they didn't reflect v-cut. She never said it then that the pictures didn't reflect a v-cut. I had fully expected a proper conversation as advertised and brought several pictures. There was no conversation other than me saying I wanted to address my wavy/curly hair and trying to show her pictures when she started cutting already. I regret not being assertive upfront that she discuss properly, and trusting her expertise. I have noted that she glanced at pictures as I being confused kept trying to show her ALL pictures (not just the front) while she was already cutting. She wasn't paying attention and it's on her if she didn't even look. All this is in the original review. When she was nearly done and I told her, this is not what I had requested, she just kept saying about the hair "but it looks nice" and I kept saying "it maybe nice for someone but it's not what I had requested or the pictures I had shown". Then she finally took a look at pictures and herself said, okay, you should ask for a v-cut. This proves that the pictures did reflect a cut that she defined as a v-cut. To the point about pictures of the back being shown later, assuming she is right, then why even the front didn't look like the pictures. She should have made time to look at pictures, ask questions, and discuss front/back, whatever she is laying out now. She is the expert and should know what to ask a client coming in for the first time and for a major change. We didn't even talk for 2-3 minutes before she got started. So her commentary doesn't make sense. I certainly didn't ask for a full, round, short curly cut upto mid shoulder blade length or brought pictures that were like that. The pictures I had were absolutely what I had requested without the exact words. I have already stated all this in my review with enough specifics to guide another person who may benefit from this. Finally, I had texted her with pictures the morning after the haircut how poufed up my hair looked and she never replied to any messages or offered to fix anything. Update (7.3.26) I just wanted to update this review with ongoing struggle as a result of this haircut. The stylist had said that by spring I will be able to get to length to allow the v-cut with blended layers that I need but it's July and the salon I have been going to tell me it will take several more months. I keep spending money trying to keep the hair tidy somehow and deal with the roundedness. Due to her lack of care and attention, Miyoko chopped off a year and half worth of hair growth that I had painstakingly grown to finally get to what I had wanted and needed for long, and I paid ~$200 dollars for getting it cut off and all wrong. read more

Got the curly experience and it included a cut. Miyoko set me up with a simple curly hair routine, to keep my hair healthy. Informed me about products I should use. Luxurious experience. read more

I highly recommend her to anyone looking to bring the bounce, shine, and color back to their curls! I asked ChatGPT to analyze an old photo of me and recommend a stylist who could help me recreate that look -- curly haircut, highlights, everything. It led me to Miyoko. I booked a partial balayage, curly cut, and K18 + Olaplex treatments. The results? My curls had more volume, the color added dimension, and my hair got its bounce back. read more

Not only can Miyako slay long curly hair....she has the lock on short curly styles as well. I took a photo to her showing her what I wanted and she delivered 100%. She extremely attentive to the needs of each of her clients and will go over and beyond to ensure you are happy!! I'm extremely high-maintenance and over beyond picky so if Miyako can give me what I need/want as my stylist she can do it for anyone!! I highly recommend her for curly cuts, gray hair coverage and highlights...all of which she does for me with flaw!! read more

Miyoko did an excellent job with my haircut! I have fine Asian hair and wanted a simple low maintenance layered cut- she immediately understood and delivered 100% on what I was looking for. Highly recommend! read more

So happy I found her! She's so skilled and well versed in curly hair and highlights. My hair has never looked better

Miyoko is the absolute best for curly hair cuts and for learning how to style your beautiful curls! Before you give up on wearing your hair in its natural glory, make an appointment with Miyoko and have her show you her process. As someone who had previously given up on natural glory, I can vouch that you will not be disappointed with the results! She's mastered the curly hair process from start to finish and she goes out of her way to walk you through the steps so that you can successfully style your hair at home. Both my husband and I see Miyoko, and for reference: I'm mixed with black and Irish, my husband is mixed with Mexican and white, both of us have long semi-thick hair, and neither of us have much coarseness to our hair. read more

Miyoko is the greatest! I desperately needed help bringing my curls back to life and growing my hair out and she has helped me SO much over the past year. I always feel comfortable asking questions and she does an amazing job of step-by-step explaining everything she's doing and teaching me how I can do it at home. And on top of being talented, Miyoko is just so so kind and fun to be around while working with her. I can't recommend her enough! read more

My hair is fickle. I've seen so many stylists over the years--but I find that they tend to want my hair to look the way THEY envision my hair would be, we're in theirs. As a result, I've dealt with crazy chops, soccer mom length boredom, and pin straight styles. It wasn't until I began seeing Miyoko, that she woke up my curls, and took my hair to the perfect length to enhance them. Ohhhh the compliments! Apart from her actual coloring, cutting and styling skills--there are the products which she carefully curates. Obsessed...and that's coming from a product junkie. Straight or curly, textured or non...Miyoko knows what she's doing, and there's a reason clients travel so far for her magic. read more

I am someone who is weary of going to salons, especially because I have thin curls that can be hard to work with, but I highly recommend anyone with curly or color-treated/damaged hair to go see Miyoko! My hair was damaged by a different stylist, and Miyoko saved me and brought my hair back to life. She even took the time to educate me on how to properly care for and style my curls! She is incredibly kind and really knows her stuff. I am so happy with my hair and I feel like I found my savior! read more

I got my hair done by Miyoko on May 2. We messaged about my hair goals prior. Day of- We discussed what I wanted- curly cut & rooty balayage. Before, I sent her inspiration pics, most of which were of myself after a cut & color, so I knew that those results were achievable. I told her I knew I had dead ends but wanted to keep length. She asked about color & I asked her to refer to the pics, & keep it rooty & an ash tone. She had no further questions & didn't stop to clarify anything else with me. She didn't check with me about how much length she was cutting or if the color placement/tone was correct. Before she started, she offered to "teach me her curly routine". I agreed bc no stylist had offered that to me before. This "lesson" was nothing I didn't already know. As she styled my hair, I sat in horror at how much length she cut, & how the color, tone, & style was nothing like the pics I sent. I told her I was surprised at the short length, she said me it was "just bc your hair is curly" This is incorrect, she took away all of my length. The pics I sent her of myself all featured me as an ashy balayaged blonde with a money piece, & dark roots & bright ends. She didn't do this. Instead of rooty, she brought the color to the roots, instead of ashy, the color is a warm, brassy tone. There was no money piece, & no bright ends. It is the worst color & cut I have ever gotten. I was too shocked to even come up with anything to say in person, for fear I would cry. When it was time to pay, she broke down the costs- & to make this worse, she says it was extra for the curly cut bc it's my first one & she had to charge for the "lesson" She offered the lesson, & if she would have been transparent that it was an extra cost, I would've declined. When I questioned this, she backtracked & said she would have charged me the same amount since it was my first curly cut with her. I paid the bill, still shocked, & drove home in tears. I regret not saying more in person or refusing to pay for service. I am out a ton of money. After talking with my trusted stylists back home, & showing them pics of my goal hair & how it turned out, they were shocked and encouraged me to seek a refund since I no longer trusted her to correct it. One stylist told me it looked like she used box dye! I reached out to her and asked and she refused, but a refund was the only acceptable resolution seeing that she botched the services so bad, & all trust was gone. Throughout our conversation afterward, she was unapologetic, defended her work, & inflexible about a refund. She also pointed the finger at me, saying that I didn't make request clear bc I didn't say that I wanted dark roots & a money piece. I don't how much more clear you could be by providing example pics of yourself with those things as the reference! When I complained about the tone & even sent her a pic showing her how brassy it was, she said it was "just lighting". My hair should look good in ALL LIGHTING. She said it was all a "miscommunication" My communication was clear, my pictures were clear, & she as the stylist has the responsibility to clear up any confusion on her part before she permanently alters someone's hair. She did offer to fix it, which I explained to her was not an option. I asked "how can you fix my hair when you won't even admit that there is a problem?" She wouldn't admit fault or take accountability. I was calm in my correspondence with her, never said anything rude, kept it factual & just begged for a refund. She refused & "stands by her work" The cherry on top was that she, after being defensive & inflexible with me, told me that I was "harassing" & was "namecalling" This appeared to be a way to shift the conversation away from the issue at hand, & create an uncomfortable & extreme environment, so that I would disengage with her. I never harassed, & I never namecalled, & even said in that I thought she was nice & professional in person & how bad i felt about complaining. So I paid luxury prices to have my hair ruined & my character attacked. I am out hundreds of dollars & am worse off. You have been warned. read more

Been seeing Miyoko about a year now and really love the journey my hair has been on. I hadn't cut my hair in years & I let her do her thing - she did not disappoint. Curly cut, balayage, and subsequent glosses have all been well done. My hair is healthy and happy. A big part of curly hair is knowing how to care for it. I found Miyoko by chance when I walked into Tonic Salon and was handed a few business cards. I was desperately in need of a haircut (my last cut was pre-covid in May 2019). I looked up Miyoko's Instagram and immediately knew she was for me! She responded to texts immediately and scheduling was fuss free. I have fine curly hair that usually ends up looking like a poofy shaggy dog so I always end up heat styling (ahem, damaging) and avoiding haircuts at all costs. Enter Miyoko - the curly hair queen who has been cutting curly hair and helping women style their naturally curly locks before it was cool. I can honestly say she gave my hair new life. I got so many compliments (on my NATURAL CURLS - the curls I used to loathe) after she cut my hair. I will absolutely be back! read more

I found Miyoko on Instagram. I was drawn to her account because she specializes in curly haircuts. As someone with curly hair it's often hard to find a stylist that knows and understands curly hair. Miyoko has curly hair herself and she has mastered how to cut, color, and style all different curly textures and her instagram shows this. I decided to book and the nearly hour drive to her location as I live in Tacoma was worth it! Super nice, easy to talk to went with her suggestions and was not disappointed! Pleased with my cut and color would definitely return and I'll be letting others know! Thank you Miyoko read more

Where do I begin... Mastered By Miyoko had a full schedule but I still decided on putting my name on the wait list (I typically don't do that). I put down that I was available at anytime between the days of June 12th to the 18th since I was leaving on the 20th for vacation. She texted me that same week and scheduled an appointment for June 10th. I get there and she is super friendly, talkative and acknowledging my opinions and cries for help lol regarding my hair. I was indecisive as to wanting to go shorter (my hair was basically on my shoulders and extremely damaged from all the bleach I got done previously). We decided on cutting some of the ends and keeping most of the length for a couple of days to see if that was truly what I wanted. She offered me to come back on the 14th if I truly wanted it shorter.. which I did. It was the best decision ever! I am extremely happy with the outcome! Even though I've never had my hair this short before, I do feel a lot better knowing it will grow healthier now. I think I finally found a curly hair stylist that I feel comfortable with styling and cutting my hair and like I mentioned before she is fantastic to talk to! She definitely help me distract myself from this crazy decision I was making but again it was all worth it! She is the girl to go to!! read more

Miyoko is amazing! I've gotten balayage done over the last few years in San Francisco, but recently moved to Seattle and was looking for someone local to do my hair. I've seen her for both haircuts and a recent balayage - the color is unlike any color I've gotten before! I asked for a lighter look and she nailed it. It's so clear she knows so much and I know I can go to her and always be satisfied. read more

Found my new hairstylist! Miyoko was awesome and so knowledgeable about tending to curly hair. As a guy with long, curly hair, it hasn't been easy getting good cuts and figuring out my routine. Miyoko is the best! I have long, thick, curly/wavy, frizzy hair that I always wear in a braid to keep it contained until I found Miyoko. I completely trust her with my hair and highly recommend her! read more

Great experience meeting Miyoko. The previous great reviews were spot on. She is a great communicator, will personalize your cut and recommendations based on your hair type and not simply a generic speech. I have Caucasian curls, type 2b/2c and never found a hairdresser who actually took time to understand my natural hair patterns and quality. I appreciate her being upfront about cost, expected time spent during her appointment and overall experience expectation. She is quick to answer her phone/texts. Most importantly my hair has never looked this good. I cannot recommend her enough.. read more

I go to Miyoko for my curls as she is great with all hair but especially curly and textured hair. She is meticulous and detailed and explains what she is doing and why. I started going to her for hair cuts and have recently done color as well. We talked through what I wanted and what the maintenance would look like. Being her detailed self she mixed up 3 different colors for my "all over color" that went over my natural grow out and some previously colored ends, and it has grown out beautifully. She can also recommend great products. Worth the investment to get what you want from someone who has many years of experience! read more

Miyoko did an amazing job w my hair and even gave a great curl tutorial. I hadn't had a professional cut or color in over two years thanks to COVID19. But I'm just a few short hours she completely transformed my hair. This was the first time I've had my hair done by someone who truly specializes in curly hair and it was so worth it! I definitely plan on being a regular. Also, as someone w an autoimmune disease who's continuing to be extra Covid cautious I was grateful that I could mask and that Miyoko agreed to mask while doing my hair. read more

I am so happy to found Miyoko after I basically I was drooling over her gorgeous curls and cut. After my first curly cut with her I was hooked. I have done many curly cuts In the past, but Miyoko's have been the best. I started using her suggested products and I immediately noticed a difference in my hairs texture and bounce. I was hesitant to do balayage as I haven't had the best luck in the past but I knew I was in good hands and my goodness did she kill it! I got so many compliments after my first color with her, and I still do after every appointment with her. It's been a great boost of confidence. She's truly an amazing artist and person. read more

Great haircut and great experience! Miyoko was welcoming and kind and asked a lot of questions to understand my curly hair and prior experience with salons and stylists. She explained at the start what the process was going to look like which included a lot of instruction which initially surprised me. The haircut was amazing but her teaching me best practices for my hair and how to style it was on another level. She didn't make me feel silly for my lack of knowledge or odd habits I've had with my hair. She recommended multiple products for my hair but was not pushy or pressured me to buy them. She sent me links to the products she recommended and discussed options of what to start with. Miyoko was super friendly, caring and welcoming and did a fantastic job with my hair! The frizz was gone! Will for sure go back read more
