I had not known that otherwise I would have rejected the appointment. My hair lifts easily, and Haley noted that. Despite that, she used too strong a developer and damaged my hair beyond belief. Not only that. She missed half of my head with toner. She noticed. And didn't tell me. She let me leave the salon with half of my head not toned. It's very noticeable from the back. I didn't see it at the appointment because she didn't show me the back - and now I know why. That's the worst of it, but she also didn't rinse my hair properly, so I still had product dried up and crusty in my hair. And she barely used any product while she blew out my hair on the highest heat, burning my scalp a couple of times and damaging my hair even more. And it was still a bit wet by the time I left. I'm usually pretty relaxed, so I didn't complain until after I went home and noticed that my head wasn't properly toned (which is also not that hard to do, I've done it myself during covid lockdowns - so it really is incredible that she messed up this bad and didn't say anything, hoping I wouldn't notice). Nothing about my experience with Haley was positive. Her work was incredibly sloppy, negligent, and dishonest. Edited to add (in response to Howie, the owner): You know the issue isn't with the toner itself - I did not see that she didn't do the back otherwise I obviously wouldn't have been "pleased". Again, you know this. I have a photo attached. You see how bad it is. I don't know why you're trying to act like that quality of service is okay. I didn't realize Red Chair's standards were so low, and I regret that I gave you all a shot :/ Also, I have to spend the holidays looking like this. So thanks for that.

It's been a week now since getting it cut, and sometimes when you do that first week (or even first wash) you have a moment where you're like "hey where'd all the cool haircut go, it's just mush again?" NOT SO. This one maintains great movement and texture even with just blow drying it the night before and tossing texturizer in it in the morning (which I got at a discount thanks to their welcome package). Olivia began thoroughly washing my hair, with a nice scalp massage too. Once done and in the chair, we then discussed the style being I was looking for: long u shaped with lots of layers and face framing pieces. She used only scissors, no razors. Hair was wet and she sectioned off the hair to blow dry and cut. After she was done cutting, she used a flat iron to show me how to style the layers to make it look fresh and full of volume! I am brand new to Seattle and was worried that I would never find a braider that was professional, timely, reasonably priced, in a safe location and of course made me look good. Awa was an answer to my prayers! I took the chance solely based on positive yelp reviews and I was not disappointed. She was able to fit me in last minute on Wednesday and was ready to go as soon as I got there. The only delays we had were caused by me not being prepared but she never made me bad or uncomfortable about this. I've had terrible past experiences with braiders being overly aggressive, rude, slow and basically making me feel like a thorn in their side just for existing. Not with Awa, she was pleasant and asked repeatedly if I was happy with the style. But the best part is that she was fast and not painful. I have thick hair on a big ass head so I'm used to being at the salon for at least 8 to 10 hours, even with two people digging into my skull. Awa has a way of providing secure braids without a terrible migraine and I was done within 4.5 hours! My kinky twist look fabulous and I've received several compliments so far, even from my husband who never notices change. I would recommend her to anyone and I definitely plan to go back. read more

I had box braids done by Away and they were a work of art. Everywhere I went people asked about them and I received so many compliments. She integrated several different color extensions and it was stunning. I broke my phone that had contact # for her and have been looking for about 1 1/2 years. I also loved her personality. 2nd Update (7.4.26)…read more The business owner has just replied to my review update from yesterday after months. Her statements are not true. It is unfortunate that she is resorting to misinformation to redirect blame vs just taking accountability for a costly mistake she made that doesn't affect her. It's a reflection on the professional. At the appointment, she didn't make time for a conversation and didn't even look at the pictures properly, let alone remembering enough after months to say that they didn't reflect v-cut. She never said it then that the pictures didn't reflect a v-cut. I had fully expected a proper conversation as advertised and brought several pictures. There was no conversation other than me saying I wanted to address my wavy/curly hair and trying to show her pictures when she started cutting already. I regret not being assertive upfront that she discuss properly, and trusting her expertise. I have noted that she glanced at pictures as I being confused kept trying to show her ALL pictures (not just the front) while she was already cutting. She wasn't paying attention and it's on her if she didn't even look. All this is in the original review. When she was nearly done and I told her, this is not what I had requested, she just kept saying about the hair "but it looks nice" and I kept saying "it maybe nice for someone but it's not what I had requested or the pictures I had shown". Then she finally took a look at pictures and herself said, okay, you should ask for a v-cut. This proves that the pictures did reflect a cut that she defined as a v-cut. To the point about pictures of the back being shown later, assuming she is right, then why even the front didn't look like the pictures. She should have made time to look at pictures, ask questions, and discuss front/back, whatever she is laying out now. She is the expert and should know what to ask a client coming in for the first time and for a major change. We didn't even talk for 2-3 minutes before she got started. So her commentary doesn't make sense. I certainly didn't ask for a full, round, short curly cut upto mid shoulder blade length or brought pictures that were like that. The pictures I had were absolutely what I had requested without the exact words. I have already stated all this in my review with enough specifics to guide another person who may benefit from this. Finally, I had texted her with pictures the morning after the haircut how poufed up my hair looked and she never replied to any messages or offered to fix anything. Update (7.3.26) I just wanted to update this review with ongoing struggle as a result of this haircut. The stylist had said that by spring I will be able to get to length to allow the v-cut with blended layers that I need but it's July and the salon I have been going to tell me it will take several more months. I keep spending money trying to keep the hair tidy somehow and deal with the roundedness. Due to her lack of care and attention, Miyoko chopped off a year and half worth of hair growth that I had painstakingly grown to finally get to what I had wanted and needed for long, and I paid ~$200 dollars for getting it cut off and all wrong.
