I've been coming to Pin Up Hair Salon for over six years, and it's absolutely worth the drive from the Eastside! Lindsey has been doing my highlights and cuts since the beginning, and she's phenomenal. Her color work is always beautiful and natural-looking, and her cuts grow out so nicely. You can tell she really cares about her craft and her clients. I also worked with Denika for my wedding hair, and she was incredible. Not only did my hair look amazing all day, but she brought such a calm, positive energy to the wedding morning--it felt like having a good friend there. The whole team at Pin Up is talented, welcoming, and professional--but also refreshingly real and down to earth. I had a fabulous yearly cut with Shayla. I still call myself new to the wavy/curly world after spending 25 years blow drying my hair straight and assuming i had straight frizzy hair. 9/18/2025 Went back to pinup salon for my perm today. Denika did a fantastic job of perming my hair. This is probably the best perm I have ever had so far. Denika didn't pull my hair, wind it too tight or lose around the rods, she was fast and very confident. When the rods were removed the curls were exactly how I knew they should look for the style I was focused on. It was great to tell someone how you want your hair to look and they truly get it and know how to do it. She was also a very pleasant person to spend a couple hours with. Day two and my hair can't be washed but I can tell the curls are going to be perfect. read more

I just moved back to Washington after leaving during the pandemic and haven't had a hairstylist for years. I called on a whim without ever having visited this salon before and was able to get a same day appointment with Susie -- i got VERY LUCKY. I want to give Susie a 10/10, she was very quick without sacrificing quality. She turned my faded and terrible box dyed hair into something amazing without multiple sessions giving me the HUGE confidence boost I desperately needed. Going from boring dirty blonde to loud and feisty red can be a bit scary at first, but as soon as she washed the dye out of my hair I knew I had won the lottery when I chose to call this salon and she picked up the phone. Also want to note that besides her 15 years of experience and talent as a hairstylist, she is just a beyond amazing person! This salon is a fraud when it comes to their pricing. The services they offer are price-ranged so if they don't like you, (the owner in particular) and you come in from off the streets they will charge you the maximum price. That's what happened to me when I went in there to get one of their general Curl Expert Cleanse, Hydrate and Curl Set Style (a shampoo and conditioner) which ranges from $55-80. Get it ranges from...The stylist charged me $68, talking about its based on the expertise! For a Basic shampoo and conditioner. I did not know you need a lot of expertise to shampoo and condition hair. I think that the prices set like the way this salon has it is misleading and a scheme for them to charge more than what a service is really worth, or to charge someone (like me) more perhaps, the one they have a bias with. read more

Great styling, talented stylists but will not be going back unfortunately. Being a person of color is no reason to be treated differently. Very unwelcoming and moody stylist who decided to be frustrated with me the whole while working with me. I have gone back to the salon time and again and noticed a massive difference in the way I was treated or welcomed. I will not be going back for the sole purpose of not feeling respected and welcomed. But if you don't care about customer service, not a bad place to go to. The owner responded to my google review saying I was treated in a frustrated way possibly because I was LATE! That's really funny because the stylist themselves showed up late. I had booked the appt for 10:15, and showed up exactly on time. Stylist showed up at 10:24 AM to start service and literally said "I READ MY NOTES, NO NEED TO EXPLAIN WHAT YOU NEED TODAY". Who on earth speaks that way to a customer? Sorry but you need to elegantly admit when you are wrong - not transfer blame to a customer on a public forum when your stylists need to really respect people for the time and money they spend coming to your salon. Especially when I would have been a long term customer spending so much money on your services. Sorry, not going back. This place is fine for a haircut but a disaster for color. Went in for a cut and some lowlights. Had not had my hair colored in three years, but trusted the stylist who said she was a trainer for the color line they used. Ended up with purple hair even though I explicitly said no unnatural colors. She colored all of my hair too after adding a few bleach foils to the front. So much for low lights. She missed a spot in front. Went back to get that fixed. They used a different even darker color, which made things even worse. I mentioned at the time it seemed like too much and that it was on my hair too long. Stylist got angry with me. It was super uncomfortable. The whole thing was a very expensive mistake. I should have researched more and known more about how hair color works beforehand. I went some place else to get it corrected. The other salon assumed I did the color myself because of how badly it was done and how damaged it was by the process and the keratin treatment she did after that. Was told it would make my hair smoother. Nope. Good for hair cut. Avoid for any color! read more

This place is fine for haircuts, terrible for color. I could have done this myself, easily, and it would have looked better. Total waste of $400. I felt ripped off and scammed. I've included a picture of what I asked for and what my hair looked like at the end of the appointment. I had to go home and re-dye it myself because of how embarrassed I was of this hair. It looked like a child dyed it. Beyond amateur. Do NOT get your hair colored at Pinup!! My response to the owner's comment: This is not true at all! I did NOT ask for this placement. I told Shayla I trusted her to decide the placement of the color; as long as it was reasonably similar to the picture, it was okay if it was not identical. This is what she chose to do. I never asked for Rose Gold, I never asked for no blue on top, and I never asked her to leave the top layer out! Those were all Shayla's decisions; clearly I shouldn't have trusted her judgment. Spent almost $300 for a cut and balayage for blonde hair. Loved the owner and Shayla. I was ill with pneumonia and after my appointment I was ill in bed for two weeks trying to recover. Once I felt well enough to try and style my hair I realized there was no layers and had hairs that were longer than the others. I reached out to Shayla via text and she said that she had a 7day guarantee complimentary tweaks and fixes. So obviously my time had expired so now I will be required to pay $75 for another cut . I never complain but man this just upsets me. Not very good customer service. I e attached the photo of my hair and texts between us. Not cool ya know. Shayla is absolutely amazing. She is the first hair stylist I have ever had who listened to exactly what I was wanting and not only gave it to me, but did it in a way that had the professional twist (aka this is what you are asking for, and this is what we need to do to get that). I have been asking for a shadow root for (literal) years and no one would ever do it because I have been blonde and they were all convinced I would hate it. I told Shayla i wanted to blend my roots and make it low maintenance, and exactly what she suggested was what I had been requesting. It was the first time I left a salon genuinely in love with my hair. They are fun, it's a comfortable environment, and never felt awkward like some salons can be. Erika is the best!! I don't get my hair cut often enough and was long overdue, largely because the stylist I'd been seeing since I moved here quit the biz entirely and finding a new stylist you trust is a daunting task, as any girl will tell you. I looked to Groupon with cautious optimism, as that is how I discovered the last stylist I liked. I usually keep my hair pretty simple, but as I'm going through some big life changes these days I was feeling a little sassy and decided to purchase the Groupon for Pinup because it included a partial foil ($99 for shampoo, cut, and partial foil is a great deal). I haven't put any type of color in my hair since the 90s, either out of a box or at a salon, so I don't know shit about it. While it may be ill-advised, generally speaking, to visit a stylist you've never seen before and give them carte blanche, I guess I'm just an impulsive girl, admittedly to my own detriment on occasion. However, I felt safe with Erika because the first thing she did when I arrived was give me a page-long form to fill out, asking for all kinds of details about my hair and hair-related likes and dislikes. I've never been to a salon that put that amount of effort into getting to know a new client, and it gave me confidence that I would leave 100% satisfied. I tend to keep my cuts pretty simple - I really like the job Erika did on my bangs, especially (and she said she'll maintain them for free in between cuts), and she also added layers to the rest of my hair to give it more volume. Most impressive was her knowledge of color. I wanted something noticeable (I mean, if you're gonna do it then DO IT), but still relatively natural looking, and she gave me the perfect multi-toned summery highlights! I've gotten so many compliments on my hair from both coworkers and customers alike - I'm currently a waitress at a busy restaurant, so I see a lot of people every day - it's like nonstop "OMG, I love your hair, where did you get it done?!" I took my 5-year-old daughter in for her back-to-school cut and it was an overall great experience. My daughter is very particular about her hair and was not excited for the cut because her last cut (somewhere else) was too short. Alise listened to her concerns and engaged her in the cut decisions. Many stylists ignore the kid and speak only to the parents. Not the case here. Very friendly, comfortable space, great haircut, and my daughter was happy with the experience and the outcome. On a more personal note, I really struggle sometimes going to salons because of the overwhelming smell of hair products. This was not the case at Pinup - no overwhelming chemicals here! I would like to preface with the fact I am the daughter of a high end stylist and until recently have only gone to my mother for my hair needs. Some recent health problems forced me to seek out a new stylist and after a very negative experience with someone earlier this year I was referred to Pinup Salon by a friend. After scouring their Yelp reviews for a good hour I decided to book an appointment with Shayla as her reviews were absolutely stellar. Oh. My. God. Were they right. Shayla is AMAZING! So professional, gives her expert advice and tells you step by step what she is doing to your hair along the way. I am extremely picky and often nervous while getting my hair cut since I'm a slight control freak. Shayla put me at ease the entire time and I never once questioned what she was doing. Bre is a talented color and cut artist! The first time I came in, I had gray grow-out and icky brassy orange leftover color and dark undertones and I felt gross. Bre carefully chose a color plan and my hair was beautiful! The next two times, she adjusted the color based on the grey grow-out and exposure to the sun and it's so pretty every time! The cut is always great and Bre cares about what I want, listens to me and I'm always happy with the results! I leave the salon feeling refreshed and put together! My wife actually went here, not me. It was Friday evening in TX and my wife had just gotten home from work. She was flying to Seattle the next morning for a job interview on Monday and didn't have time to do anything with her hair, which she neglects for long periods of time, and was way past due for some cut and color attention. She was panicked and didn't want to make a bad impression at her interview, so I busted out the laptop and started Yelping. I found 3 salons, but the first two, nearest her hotel, didn't have an opening. I liked the reviews and such on Pinup Salon, so we called and were able to book her an appointment on Sunday. We talked after her appointment, with Erika, and she was full of praise for the wonderful experience she'd had. She said Erika was very personable, she was very happy with her hair, and found the location very comfortable too. It is a boutique salon, so once you get to your appointment it is just you and your stylist, so you get the personal treatment. My wife fully intends to go there once we move this Summer and will probably bring our purple-haired teen daughter in too. I did the Keratin complex smoothing treatment with Alise on July 2018 and payed $400 dollars for it. The stylist said that the treatment should last between 3 to 5 months but for me lasted less than 4 weeks!! I called many times to the salon to receive an answer/solution and they never did anything for me. In total I spend more than $500.00 (I also did a super simple hair cut plus 20% tip) for a service that wasn't good at all! I am really disappointed and I will never go back to this place. I feel that they ripped me off. Do not go to this salon they will still your money! I have done the keratin treatment many times in different salons and it last for months that is why the treatment is expensive because last long time but at Pinup they did it wrong and they don't care about it. Jen is awesome...interesting...thrifty, brave, clean and irreverent. Her shop's got free parking (always a plus when you're near Alki) AND there's an espresso place right there, too. She's really good with hair, getting my unruly and lazily maintained locks in order. I brought along a sample size of the hair product (singular! just one!) that I use, and she was cool about not glooping up my hair. I've been to places where I've explained carefully that I hate using too much stuff and they nod and still dump stuff onto my head, causing me to stick to my pillow the next morning. I would follow Jen to the ends of the earth, and not just because she's a friend of mine, either. She always knows just how to cut my half curly/half straight so that it looks good, and when i got highlights recently that i demanded be subtle, she gave me JUST what i asked for. Just a little brightening without looking outrageous. There is a good reason Jen has a loyal clientele who travel from all over the city to her new little place in West Seattle, and it's because she's JUST THAT GOOD. Oh, and plus? I used my groupon to recieve a cut and color several months ago. At first, I was not 'wowed' when I got home. It was just okay, and looked like I had actually put time into fixing my hair up cute, but nothing special. It took a couple days, then I noticed the genius of the cut. I have excruciatingly baby-fine hair, and not much of it. I invest a lot in products and tools to make it look like I have more. It's like a magical oxymoron- but her cutting it made it look like I had more hair! She put in long layers for thickness and the angle of the cut caught the wind and layed in a way that made it look longer?! The color was..um...okay, but that was my fault. I was fearful of too big a change and she wasn't confident in herself. From the reviews here it seems as if Jen is more intuitive, more daring and able to give you what you always were too fearful to get and make you happy she did it. Had an appointment with Ms. Shayla for a Keratin Complex treatment & had a great experience. To give you a little history :: I've done Japanese straight perms for 10+ years & it's taken it's toll over the years. With my hair thinning out & drying out I knew I had to take a difference approach. I had a Brazilian Blowout done at a another salon & was not thrilled with the results as I still had frizz & flyaways. Also the previous gal's specialty really was coloring so that could have been another factor. But at any rate I've found a treatment that works on my impossible hair so I'm stoked. Shayla was amazing at explaining the whole process & what I could expect realistically. The process did take the full 3 hours, but Shayla was fun to talk to & it was nice to be sipping on a Shraz on the side. I went home with some Loma products to make sure my treatment lasted. So bottom line : If you are looking for pin straight hair, may want to stick to JSP, but if you are looking to get your hair back to a healthy state this keratin treatment is for you :) PS : A trim/haircut is not included in the $300 Keratin treatment which is a bit of a bummer so be forewarned you will be charged another $55 on top of that. read more
