I hired kendra in March for a December wedding. She charged me the full cost of service as a non-refundable which I now know is an unethical business practice. She books trials too close to the date, so when the trial went sideways, I had to add a to do to the busy planning, which wasn't ideal. Kendra seems to have a one size fits all approach to makeup, and she doesn't listen. She has a heavy handed approach to application (see her instagram). She is condescending and makes little snide comments that are little biting insults. When I mentioned that my eyebrows were way too dark and overdone, her response "eyebrows are a non-negotiable"... umm, wth is that about? Anyway, upon calling other artists, it seems that Kendra has quite the reputation with her peers. They've heard my story from other folks that have attempted to work with Kendra. Recently, Kendra has announced that she is "mostly" retiring from makeup application, but beware that she is still hiring out makeup artists under her KLS business. There are numerous other capable professionals in the area, and I would highly recommend looking to them if you have any interest in natural and flattering makeup. I gave kendra the opportunity to make this right with a partial refund, which she chose to ignore. read more

I couldn't have asked for someone better than Kendra on my wedding day. She was prompt, hilarious and extremely skilled at her profession. Both myself and my Maid Of Honor had our make up done by her as well as my hair - all done with care. It was so fun to experience someone with such natural talent at what they do. I chose KLS to do my wedding hair + makeup after careful research, and booked them really early. Kendra the makeup artist was friendly and a good communicator until suddenly, less than a month before my wedding, she told me she would not be available on my wedding day because she decided to participate on a show out-of-state. This didn't allow me time to find another artist since everyone else was booked. She had her assistants/apprentices/whoever do the job for the same price. They paid no attention to anything I requested (simple things like "can you not darken my (already dark) eyebrows") and did not know how to work with my non-Caucasian features at all. I felt ugly at my own wedding. Kendra might do great work for some clients but she might also just completely cancel on you to further her own image and career, and time it so that you can't find anyone else. Kenda has horrific customer service. I booked her for my engagement photo shoot, and she agreed to do my hair and makeup, but I was told that "as of right now" she was free but she "may get booked with a last minute wedding." SERIOUSLY? A month before my shoot you can't guarantee that you will be available? That is honestly completely ridiculous and insulting. It's clear she wants to keep her options open and would cancel on you a week before if she got more money for a wedding vs. an engagement shoot. It was very important to me to use the same makeup artist for my shoot as my wedding, in order to feel comfortable. I wanted to be confident with someone I had worked with before, and know that they style me the way that I want (I think most brides would agree!) So when Kendra gave me that wishy-washy answer, I expressed that I was concerned that she couldn't commit to my engagement shoot that was only a month away, and that it was important to me that I use the same makeup artist for my engagement shoot as my wedding so that I could feel comfortable at at-ease (which ALL BRIDES should!!). In my explanation of why this was so important to me, I randomly used the word "audition" to try and describe it - apparently that was a huge no-no. Kendra flipped out, and got all high-and-mighty and declared that she "doesn't audition" and said "My brides base their trust in me through my work." Okay, well I haven't had you work on me before, so there's no way to do that... And referencing a vendor's portfolio isn't always helpful, as I'm sure all you brides have noticed on your vendor searches, because often they are shoots with models, or pictures they've submitted to magazines, and you can't tell how that artist would style a real human like yourself! It's clear Kendra took severely unreasonable offense to my use of the word "audition," when I was just trying to express my concern over her flippant attitude towards committing to my photo shoot, and she clung to that one word because it irrationally bruised her ego. Do you want to be walking on eggshells trying not to set off your hair and makeup artist? What if you wanted something about your look changed and she behaved like that? When I showed her e-mails to my fiancé he correctly commented, "Well thankfully you found out her crappy attitude ahead of time - you wouldn't want someone like that involved in your wedding day." I would recommend all brides to steer clear, and to find an artist who will respect your time and commitment, and not add to increased stress during your wedding planning process, which Kendra definitely did. UPDATE BASED ON KENDRA'S VERY FAKE RESPONSE TO THIS REVIEW: Just listen to her attitude in her response to this review. I mean, I was expecting it of course, based on how she behaved and her lack of customer service. Do you want to work with someone like that?! I had to push my shoot back because I got a haircut that DESTROYED my bangs (I was actually crying when I got home). Does Kendra sound sympathetic? Does she sound like someone you want involved in the best day of your life? I'll let you know my photographers understood and wouldn't make passive aggressive comments like Kendra's response here. It doesn't change the fact that she said she was available, but could ditch out if something better came along. A bigger deal: she's FLAT OUT lying in her response to this review. My first date was on Sunday, September 11th. It was not a weekday. Nice attempt to save face by lying... But that's not going to trick the savvy brides reading this review. When I rescheduled Kendra did not "express availability would be a challenge" she said YES, and then said she "may get booked with a last minute wedding." She also communicated no "terms" and or "polices," so I don't know what that comment is about. I assume she said this in her response to sound more professional, and not like someone who would cancel on you last minute (which, she is). And didn't I tell you all about how insane she was about the random use of the word "audition" - see, she had to bring it up again in her comment! It's not like I yelled at her that she needed to audition for me, it was just the word I chose when trying to explain that in order to feel comfortable on my big day, I wanted my wedding makeup and hair artist to be the same person who did my engagement shoot, so I wouldn't use someone who skipped my engagement shoot. Honestly, I'm just still in shock that she thinks telling a bride that she's available but could later be booked and cancel on my shoot is her version of giving customer service her "utmost priority." BRIDES BEWARE!!! There are literally hundreds of makeup and hair artists in the Seattle area - don't take a chance that your engagement shoot or wedding could be ruined by Kendra. read more

Not only did she do amazing work (there were two brides and seven bridesmaids, so we kept her busy!), but she is so much fun to be around. Planning our wedding from Australia and not being from the Seattle area, the only things I could rely on were reviews from different wedding websites to choose an artist. Hair and makeup were the most challenging and risky vendors to find in my opinion, because I am a bit picky with what I like and feel "myself" and comfortable with, especially on a huge and important day. I did my trial only a few weeks before the wedding, due to travels back to the states from Australia, but Kendra was very accommodating. I went into the trial not really knowing what I wanted, and I didn't communicate the best I could have. I was so pleased with my makeup and any changes I asked for my hair, Kendra made happily. It was also a plus to know Kendra has worked for Mac for years and uses mainly Mac products (my favorite brand and go-to). On the day of the wedding, we changed my curls a few different times - Kendra was extremely patient with me, as it was my miscommunication that caused this. She is so patient and kind! Kendra and Jackie were extremely timely in getting us all ready. Jackie did hair for my four bridesmaids, my mother, and my groom's mother. Kendra did my hair, and everyone's makeup. Absolutely amazing! I planned a Seattle wedding from out of state, which presents a number of challenges. Kendra was so easy and fun to work with. She worked around when I was going to be in town for the trial appointment and had no problem switching the order who was getting ready first the day of the wedding a few people in our party were stuck in traffic. I have worked with Kendra in two separate weddings. The first wedding she spray tanned the bride and all the bridesmaids(Me). All of which turned out perfect.
