I got highlights and a trim from Jessica yesterday. She was congenial and attentive as a stylist. I…read morecan tell she likes to work with people, which is always a plus. I was drowsy, so she got me a cup of jasmine green tea. While I sat there, I got to enjoy the comings and goings on the salon. Regulars trickled in for cuts and conversation. I got to see three children get their hair cut in that time frame. All of them seemed comfortable in the hands of their stylist - and they were all eagerly anticipating the complimentary treats that followed. Older clients came in and joked about how long they'd been coming to the salon and how old they were now as the stylist reassured them that they had the hair of a 20 year old. I was amused by the authenticity of their exchange and the shared commitment to the good natured exaggerations. A couple even came in to bring Tram a care package while I was glued to my chair accumulating my metallic sheen. I happened to overhear that she was sick. While there, the man got a trim because why not? He was at their neighborhood joint. Vibe check: A+. I would sit here for hours again to bask in the rarity of a thriving local business with a loyal, friendly clientele. It was like peeking into a whole new story with which I had no connection, like watching a sitcom - but none of the characters were a-holes. After foiling up, I went next door to get a pedicure while I waited for my hair to process. The woman who gave me that service - sorry, I forgot her name, but she has a bob haircut - was kind and assuaged my anxiety about my unshaven legs. She asked me "why should we have to always keep shaven? Men don't". Valid point. Plus, she said that people often shave before coming in and the pedicure process can actually can irritate their skin. Good to know. The pedicure was great. They talked me into getting my nails buffed and a simple shoulder massage as well. That wasn't the best service, to be honest (it was not the same woman who gave me the pedicure). I know they were just hoping to upsell me because it was a slow day. I get that. I wish I hadn't paid so much for it, but that's ok. It was clearly a pamper day for me. Back to the hair salon side I went. Jessica toned, washed, blew dry, and styled my hair in a surprisingly short period of time - or maybe it just seemed that way since I'd been there so long. Her swift work didn't yield sloppy results though. My hair was smooth, slightly curled, and far more presentable than I usually appear. She asked me where I was going now that I looked so lovely. "I told my friend I would watch her dogs", I responded. "What?? You should be going out!" she said before acknowledging that I was right about the dogs not being left alone too long and joked about how pretty I would be for them. Then I paid and headed out, letting her get to the next client who walked in. The dogs did not seem to appreciate the hours and dollars that I had dedicated to grooming, by the way. Guess that's juhow it is when you're around creatures that are naturally cute.

I cannot recommend this salon highly enough. For a little background, I am a single mom whose only…read moresplurge is her hair. I recently moved from LA where I was completely **spoiled** with movie star quality salons. I was nervous I would not be able to find anyone that could make my frizzy dishwater blond mop feel manageable... and dare I say, attractive. After doing lots of homework all roads led back to Coco & Co salon and specifically to its owner, Antonio. I feverishly worked to book an appointment and I knew I was in expert hands before even sitting in the chair. Antonio did something no previous LA hairstylist had, he asked about my day to day and what I was really looking for from my hair cut weeks after I left the chair. It blew my mind! It felt so easy admitting things I've known about myself for years: I don't know how to style my own hair, I barely have time to brush it, I maybe had a blowdryer at some point.. and a ponytail is perhaps the norm 3 days a week. Antonio LISTENED and he used my own day to day reality to give me THE PERFECT haircut and style, for ME. Antonio gently helped me understand that some of the inspiration photos I brought in... would put me a little over my skis (IE: need a round brush, wouldn't fit in a ponytail, would drown out my skin). He also helped me realize that I wasn't too old for other looks and should embrace framing my face, etc. Probably the most amazing thing about Antonio is that he showed me exactly how the hair would grow between cuts and how I could move the part to get more fun looks ... meaning the cut would still be fresh the entire time between cuts. No salon in LA has ever left me feeling as good about myself MONTHS after a hair cut. Antonio lived up to all his positive online reviews and I must agree, he really is a hair genius. I recommend you not only go to him, but you commit and trust fall into his advice. And as if that weren't enough... he is just a lovely human who genuinely cares about YOU, his community, and everyone. Haircuts with him are always a highlight (PUNS! :)

In retrospect I remember that Antonio did Not show me the back of my head! It was days later when the other nurses I work with commented on how bad the back of my head looked and asked why none of the grey was blended into the rest of my hair, causing it to have a tacky chunky look. Please keep in mind that I had a lengthy consultation before my hair was touched and I expressed wanting a medium size foil and used my fingers to show how wide I wanted. He also said that his partial foils start at the temples to crown. Antonio ONLY foiled my hair from crown to cheek bone and so I had only a layer ( few inches ) of color on top. HE NEVER PUT ANY COLOR IN MY GREY HAIRLINE Keeping in mind that I was so blinded by his phenomena haircut and blow out that I kept telling him how much I loved it. After I saw the back of my head and had negative comments about the color I messaged him about how bad the color is and I sent him the exact same pic of the color that I am posting on here. Desperate to get halfway livable color I convinced myself to give him a benefit of the doubt that he could correct his work, I told him I would let him touch it based solely on his reviews. In r retrospect my guess is that the reviews are either very old or faked. Ultimately he refused to refund me one penny and offered to put a toner on. That's rediculous because what I needed was More bleach not darker. Keep in mind that I showed him pictures of the color I wanted during the consultation. Then he said that he would charge me $220 dollars to fix it. What I need is a COLOR CORRECTION. I'm getting upset writing this review. I didn't want the negative energy of reliving all of this but kept imagining some poor woman having him color her hair for the holidays and felt an obligation to let you know precisely what he did. These pic were taken a few days after the color and are the same ones I sent him when I asked for refund. Darn it I am noticing that there's no option to post pics here but I'll post them on Yelp.com

That put me in the hands of master colorist Jessica, who is excellently knowledgeable, honest about level-setting expectations, and has an admirable focus on hair health (given that I was requesting almost white-blonde hair from a previously dyed base color). She accomplished remarkable results in one sitting, with some clever improvisation, though I needed a second appointment to reach full platinum (due to the condition of my hair). Notably, because this is an Aveda salon, my hair texture remained super soft despite the intense bleaching. They really care for your hair and give you guidelines to maintain it. My second appointment was with Brad, who is a recent hire, gifted colorist, and very pleasant company. He took me to full platinum and gave me advice for keeping my hair color icy. I was more than pleased with the results. I'd like to add a special shoutout to Acacia, who manages appointments and makes you feel very much at home. The vibe in the salon is relaxing and spa-like -- which is a mercy during lengthy color appointments. Cannot recommend this place enough, especially if you are committed to natural, vegan hair care.
