I was assigned David through weddingbug.com, I specifically asked the website for someone with good…read morelistening skills, that would provide candid/photo journalisn style pictures. I was very clear I dont like group photos that have a "set-up" cheesy type quality. I spoke with David over the phone 5 days before my wedding and confirmed the time, location, etc of my event. I made a point of telling him that at my wedding location there were gorgeous backdrops for pictures including the glass museum bridge, union station, the downtown waterfront in Tacoma, and many more. On the day of my wedding David showed up over an hour late to my hotel room to take photos (he text me when he was ten minutes late to say he was 15 minutes away then I guess he was looking for parking for the rest of the time). By that time I was busy and unable to get the candids I had wanted of me getting ready. I told him again how much I dont like the cheesy set up type pictures and to please avoid photographing the wedding party that way. Let me state that David is very personable and a very pleasent person to have a conversation with. He took pictures of my husband and groomsmen on the stairs inside the Museum (not outside infront of any of the lovely old building that were literally outside the front door). He kept telling them to do "something crazy". The photos all look very cheesy, set up, and forced. He did not take one single photo of anyone infront of any of the beautiful architecure that was available. He took pictures of the reception area, pictures of me infront of a concrete wall with blinds (which washed me out horribly), and for some reason back to the same nondescript staircase again for family photos). When I recieved the photos from weddingbug I was sick. There are maybe 3 usuable shots of my husband and I together. There were 300 photos total he took (and I mean total, not after he threw out unusable shots). There are maybe 25 shots total that can be edited to look average at best. He managed to catch every bad angle and unattractive facial expressions on both of us. He repeatedly took phots of us in a pose that made me look like a hunchback. He took 10 shots of a photo that I got my husband as a wedding gift. Thats right my friends. He took pictures of a picture that I already owned. Nothing to be done about it now, my photos are awful. Whats interesting is David showed me some photos of a friend of his wedding. He mentioned he had gone and scouted the location ahead of time. There were beautiful, dramatic photo journalism style photos I loved. For some reason, maybe because Im not his friend, or I booked him through weddingbug.com, he decided my wedding was going to look like cheesy, forced, bad prom photos. I should have said or done something at the wedding about my concerns but I was too busy trying to enjoy my event and foolishly expected I wouldnt have to tell a professional adult how to do their job. I probably wouldnt have written a review but David asked me to write a review for his profile (before I had even seen my photos).

I wanted multiple groupings during our shoot, and we had great results from each set. The idea was to achieve professional portraits in a natural home setting and we definitely were able to capture the mood and personalities of each family member. Linda suggested a few ideas and the whole experience went flawlessly. She knew what questions to ask and then was very creative with her recommendations. She sent us a contract, we completed it and returned it. She also sent some great suggestions for the day of our shoot (what to wear, make-up tips, etc.). The day arrived and we went confidently and felt comfortable that we had done our due diligence on our end. During the photo shoot, Linda made us feel so comfortable. My fiancé and I were looking for "not just another wedding photographer" to capture our big day…read more Being a photojournalist, Paul specializes in a behind the scenes approach to photography, capturing rare moments and the energy of the room. This is what we wanted: candid moments of our friends and family on our special day. We also wanted traditional wedding photos, and asked Paul to enlist the help of a fellow photographer to capture more of the standard "wedding" photos like portraits, family photos, and the romantic, cute bride and groom photos that every couple wants. Working with Paul and his colleague was amazing leading up to the big day. He was super flexible with our schedule, offered to meet in person if we had any questions, and confirmed our special requests for us. He was fully informed of the must-have shots we discussed (especially the guests reaction to our kiss and walk back up the aisle as husband and wife), and told us not to sweat the small stuff like the photos of the day-of jewelry, dress hanging in the window, veil photo with couple kissing underneath, bridal party shoes, etc. You know, all the standard stuff. He'd take care of it. What a relief! He even agreed to have our photos to us within a week, despite his crazy busy schedule. Trust me with I say, a welcome partnership considering that not all vendors are as accommodating and easy to work with. On the wedding day Paul and his colleague show up, everything is fantastic. He's early, he's dressed well, and he immediately gets to work snapping photos of the venue, the wedding party, and the décor - such a great thing to do before guests arrive. He and the second photographer were in and out of the bridal suite throughout the afternoon, seeming to capture those special moments prior to the ceremony. They stayed out of the way of the staff, but were all around us snapping photo after photo. Following the ceremony, Paul seemed stressed about the position of, and rapidly setting sun. It felt like he rushed us through our wedding portraits with family and the wedding party, almost yelling at people to get in position so he could capture the moment while our second photographer held up a light screen...I know lighting is important, but the second photographer lost out on the opportunity to capture different angles, make suggestions for other positions, and also didn't have the opportunity to capture our guests at cocktail hour. We literally stood in one position and everyone rotated around us. Same looks on our faces, same backdrop, zero variety. Not very spectacular. He then had us walk further down the beach to capture the couple shots. We thought we had taken several different positioned photos (kissing, holding hands, walking together with him holding my dress off the sand - close ups too, not just far away shots), but we would come to find out that most photos were captured in a single, or two positions. Not exactly creative or romantic. Okay, so overall the wedding day went off without a major hitch, and we left the venue feeling really good about our choice in photographers. I mean, come on! His photos are unreal. We were looking forward to seeing how the photos of the sparkler send off turned out, one of our favorite moments of the night. Fast forward to when we get our photos back from both Paul and our second photographer. We love the photos that were captured and appreciate the fact that the turnaround was so quick. We loved the photos of the reception, guests dancing, hitting golf balls into the water, swinging on the rope swing. The "action shots" were amazing. The garter and bouquet toss pictures were hilarious, just loved them. With that said, a lot of the couple's photos and candid moments between bride and groom did not meet our expectations based on the work we saw in his portfolio. There were so many beautiful places that could have provided variety both indoors and outdoors, and moments that we wish we had memories of, but neither Paul or his colleague captured them for us. I would recommend Paul as a photographer, for sure, but note to future clients: be very assertive and prescriptive and exact about what you are looking for, or risk missing out on those key moments that are so important to you and your spouse.

Found a posting on Craigslist, chatted via email about what I was looking for in a new professional photo. Day of the shoot, both of us were early (awesome) quick intros, and we started. I'm not the easiest person to photograph. Being open to suggestions and tips, I tried my best and had a blast just chatting away... less than 4 hours after the session I get email the photos are up. I was ready to be bombarded with images of a person I just don't recognize. Instead I was absolutely amazed that Emmanuel captured me, my personality. If you're looking for a photographer that takes his time to understand what you're looking for then Emmanuel is exactly who you want to work with.
