She was scheduled to fly out to CA at the end of the week and only had 1 day to shoot my maternity photos. I couldn't book the photos any later because I was already 37 weeks. The day we booked was gloomy. She had planned to scout a location the next day but switched her schedule to get our photos done. The day turned out to be sunny and amazing! The photos were incredible because she was flexible with her schedule despite it being tight! 2) Again her photos are amazing. She has a great eye and is artistic. She captured many amazing photos of us! She knew the perfect angles, the best lighting, and where to go in Seattle for the best moments to capture. 3) Her price is very reasonable for the quality and experience she gave us. I paid a lot more for photos in Paris that do not compare! 4) She is very personable and easy to get along with. 5) She gets sneak peeks to you the very next day and the rest of the photos were guaranteed in 2 weeks but she got them to us in like a week! 6) She knows her limits. A lot of photographers out there overbook themselves and can't make deadlines. She takes her time to provide quality edited photos and again..she got them to us before the 2 week mark. Going back to the photos from Paris...it took them almost 3 months to get all the final edited photos to us. 7) I will definitely use her again. I've recommended her to friends. Some of which have used her more than once as well!

The photos did not all look alike, but were unique and consistent and exactly what we wanted. Thanks Vera!

Not only did Charlie go above and beyond (he packed up his entire studio and drove 45 minutes to my location at the last minute because of an error that I made in my scheduling for the day), but he was incredibly kind and professional, which put me at ease. I was not looking forward to having my picture taken because of how self conscious I feel, but Charlie was great, and I actually really like the way the photos turned out. During the photo shoot, he was diligent about making sure everything looked good (like a stray piece of hair, or a wrinkle in my shirt). And he also did some small but important touch ups during editing (like whitening my teeth a little and smoothing some of my eye wrinkles- my husband has noticeably uneven eyes when he smiles, and Charlie was able to make them look more symmetrical- just small things that make a big difference). It's also a helpful bonus that he gives his clients several file sizes for their picture so I could quickly plug them in to the different social media/marketing platforms I am using for my business. I would recommend Charlie to anyone looking for a photographer.

I consider myself to be a savvy shopper - sometimes to my wife's chagrin. When making a big-ticket…read morepurchase, it can take me weeks to make a buying decision, combing through back issues of Consumer Reports, online reviews and, of course, Yelp. So what in the hell was I thinking when I went out and hired the first photobooth company I came across in a Google search? I am utterly baffled by my behavior - especially since there are numerous companies listed on Yelp, many with 4 or 5 star averages and several with Yelp promotions. Ugh. I just want to beat my head against the wall. I hired Phototainment after coming across their website in a Google search and then swapping a couple of emails with the owner Paul. He quoted me $1600 for up to four hours and an all-inclusive package of booth, operator, TV screen showing best images from the night, unlimited prints and props. Additionally, all the pictures are uploaded onto a web gallery where high resolution versions can be downloaded for no additional charge. Without thinking and without even doing as much as a single Yelp search, I fired off a $500 deposit. Three weeks later I nearly dropped a baby when I came across a Groupon promotion by Blink FotoBooth for $399, a $576 savings from their normal rate of $975. $399! Even as I write this, I am shell shocked. (A package comparable to Phototainment would have included a $150 upgrade, so $549.) I wrote to Paul at Phototainment: "I'm sure you've seen this Groupon for Blink. It's pretty compelling. http://www.groupon.com/browse/seattle?lat=47.60621&lng=-122.33207&address=Seattle%2C+WA&query=photobooth+rental Anything you can do level set the amount I am paying you vs. what your competition is currently offering?" Paul responded the same day (sic throughout): "Yes I have seen this groupon many times. To give you a little history, this company has a history of not following thru on the deal. Hard to believe, photobooths like anything else you pay for what you get. I am a high service, high image quality company. I am dependable, care about your event, and will show up. If you would like to take advantage of this offer, the by all means go for it. You would for go your deposit. Let me know what you would like to do." Now I have no way to truly validate if Blink is a flaky company as Paul contends, but they do have a five star average on Yelp, albeit, from only three reviews. I was paralyzed by uncertainty and indecision. I absolutely didn't want anything to go wrong on the day of our event, but more so, I didn't want to admit that I had made a dumb mistake by not adequately researching different photo booth companies. Oh that damn pride! Ultimately I stayed the course with Phototainment and they were perfectly, well, adequate. The booth setup was professional. The technician Bryan was there on time and worked all night, not once getting up from his seat and processing over 400 pictures. The photo booth was a big hit. But, I think the props were rather weak - mostly signs you could hold up - and the pictures themselves have a somewhat metallic appearance to them. There were no add-ons such as cardboard frames, magnets or different background options - all of which Bink offers for an upcharge. Had I paid a competitive rate for the service, I may have felt better about Phototainment possibly giving them a four star review. But, there's simply no question that I overpaid - and by a huge amount. I confirmed this by looking at several other companies in addition to Blink. I feel ripped off and as such I can't muster up anything more than two stars.

In both cases, we wanted to document what life was like at the time: washing baby's bum in the sink, wrangling her into a diaper, dressing her while she pulled clothes out of the drawer, playing "upside-down baby," her delight in the swings at the park, the mess of meal time. So, we were looking for a professional photojournalist. Someone who could see a great image in the middle of the action and get it. Meryl captured the beauty in those everyday moments. Or maybe she made them beautiful. The photographs are truly a treasure. Meryl is super laid-back, with a dry sense of humor, which makes the shoot feel easy. Her rates are more than reasonable, and she doesn't hold the photos hostage or force you into a preset print package.
