I've been here twice, the second time with my wife, as I believe in giving a place at least two chances. Both times they were disappointing. The restaurant itself was crowded both times that I came. But the dining room I was a bit on the dirty side, had to sit at a dirty table until someone would come clean it, which could be a while. The food was less than mediocre. Breakfast food is not hard to make good and yet they have failed at that. The service was friendly but slow. I don't see any reason to come back. read more

I ate at this diner with my sister and immediately coming in there is an odd smell and it's not the cleanest but then again it's a diner. I ordered the a breakfast burger and the burger itself was good a very big portion but the meat tasted a little watery if that makes sense like had water in it , but not the juicy burger your mouth would water for. Anywho we also order the wings with fry and I don't recommend the wings there is too much batter and they were a bit gummy. Customer service was okay not great but also not bad. Ok, normally I would not comment on a local business....however, my friend and I ate there this morning because of Yelp's wonderful reviews and we were left wondering if the Yelp reviewers were fresh out of prison and had forgotten what good food tastes like. I had eggs Benedict. The eggs were hard boiled eggs (no runny poach) and there were globs of what I can only guess was cheese wiz with some added garlic all over it. Definitely not Hollandaise. Then a delivery guy came in with tons of boxes of prepackaged, frozen foods which confirmed why our food did not have that classic diner, home-cooked taste we were seeking. This little restaurant is a hidden gem in Spring. Wow!!! So many choices and the ones we had were so great! This place stays busy and is hopping. Not too busy just steady. You walk in and seat yourself. Someone quickly walks up and hands you a menu. We came around 11am and the place was full but had about two tables. After we ordered within ten minutes we had our meal. I had the Macahcada. It has scramble eggs with shredded beef, cheese, jalapeños and refried beans. I added the corn tortillas and it had salsa no the side. The ice tea kept flowing and the service was right on point. Our server was attentive and never missed a beat. They serve breakfast all day long. We tried this place on a whim despite the negative review and am glad we did. The seat yourself dining room was clean, comfy, and not loud. The server was kind and efficient and the food came quickly from the short order cook in the kitchen you can see from anywhere in the dining room. The food was very tasty and not to mention super easy on the bank account. We will definitely be back. This place serves the best CFS that I've had in a looong time. The amount of breading and gravy were just right. I think they used Yukon golds for the mashed potatoes rather than russets like most places because they tasted naturally buttery. The fried okra was so good that I thought about getting an additional side of it even after I was full. The service was as stellar as the food. read more

Had the staff of women watching me but only one was kind enough to checked on me. At the end I paid $18 for eggs, hash browns, grits, toast and coffee. That's not including the tips I left. The price is not what bothers me. It's is the treatment I received. Even thou they knew they gave me poor service. They still charged more then a steak dinner (I never receive the steak back) and the manager was unapologetic. read more

We ordered way too much to finish but everything was tasty. My husband had 3 breakfast tacos and hash browns and I ordered the breakfast sandwich with a side of corn beef hash. Whoever is on the flattop this morning Bravo! The crisp these hash browns have is phenomenal. The salsa for the tacos is super flavorful, the green packs some real heat but flavor first and I appreciate that. My egg sandwich was really good and my portion of hash was huge. I wish it had a little less cheese but I'm sure I'm an outlier with that opinion. Service was quick and attentive, they got everything right, didn't fuss over us and let us be. Inside is very casual, you can see into the kitchen a bit but otherwise they are pushing a sort of 50s vibe with a checkered floor, old school photos, and red booths and accents. Our server was a young man. I ordered from the Senior Menu that has multiple entrees listed at a $7.29 price. I said senior and pointed to the picture of the senior BLT and chicken tortilla soup I received my order the senior size BLT and the same size bowl of chicken tortilla soup that I have received in the past when I ordered this Sr Meal. Imagine my surprise when I was charged Sr BLT/soup $ 11.98 for this meal. It took me a while to get server's attention to question the bill. Seems he was more interested in laughing and talking at the front booth near the kitchen with his co-workers. I told him I thought everything on the senior menu was one price $7.29. He said no, it depends what soup you get. You got a bowl. The Senior menu doesn't have a description only a picture of a bowl and sandwich. There is no mention of having an option to order different sizes of soup on the Senior Menu. Basic customer service at the time of my order would have been for him to explain there were different sizes of the bowls (cup bowl and bowl) and senior entrée would be a "cup bowl" If I wanted a "bowl"I would be charged $4.69 more. Again, I would like to stress the size of the bowl I received was the same size I have always received when I order this entrée on the Sr Menu. Interesting I45 has on their menus to read them carefully, but they don't have this information on the menu read more

So it's not a bad place. Seems a little pricey but food would be worth it if not so bland. The fish tacos I got were just ok. They were missing something. I added salt and pepper and lemon trying to figure out what it was and it was a fail. The sauce it came with tasted generic so I did not enjoy it and the Tabasco made it a bit better. Just ate one of the three tacos and brought the rest to my dogs who eat everything. The poblano soup was good and no complaint there. I would order it again. My husbands meat loaf was well seasoned and def juicy. What he didn't like is that the sauce on top tasted more like spaghetti sauce. He was starving eating breakfast at 1pm so he ate most of it out of hunger and not really pleasure. He loved the mashed potatoes since you could tell those are homemade. The mac and cheese was ok too. Not sure if they try to make it from scratch or if it's a really good bagged Mac and cheese. It was bland and was missing flavor. Coffee was hot and refills didn't stop so the service is good. My toddler had burger and fries and of course no complaint there :) the kids meal is one of the priciest I've ever seen but the portion seems more of a lunch adult menu. I will give it a try in the future for their crepes and that may tell if I do continue coming or just completely never come again...I mean I do need something that I love to come back. My fiancé and I used to love coming here. Stopped by after running errands in the area and thought we'd eat in. After standing in line, I noticed an abundance of flies. This place is usually packed so I tried to be reasonable with the fact that the door was opening every 2-5minutes. But honey, it was as if everyone was oblivious to all the flies. Or maybe they just didn't mind. Either way, I couldn't believe it. Now their food is good and all but I'm eating inside just to avoid outside outside influences like flies.. Anywho -- The BLT with onion rings was good, a choice you can't mess up really. Could've done without the extra slice of bread but I digress. Onion rings were large and crispy. The waffle was decent, underwhelming.. the powdered sugar on top was a great added touch though. Now I love their breakfast tacos!! What better place to have birthday breakfast, than I-45 Diner. Service has gone above and beyond in the few times I have dined here. Food has been consistent. My most recent visit was with my son on the day of his 2nd birthday. Ordered the vegetable omelet that while looked naked on the plate comes with a side car of fruit that usually is sharing the plate, hot cup of great tasting coffee (if you look close enough you can see the steam coming out of that cup and hey even smell that amazing aroma, man I love coffee.) The omelet is stuffed with mushrooms and spinach, topped with cheddar cheese, fresh tomatoes and even more spinach. The little guy got the Jr.Pancake combo with whip cream on the side, and hot cocoa with of course more whip cream. The Jr. Combo is huge in my opinion, which isn't necessarily a bad thing if your kid can eat, a pancake smothered in strawberry sauce, scrambled eggs, and two slices of bacon. He was treated to a huge side car of whip cream on the side. My waitress, how I wish I could remember her name, was amazing. Constantly talking to my little guy and even brought him a birthday treat of two waffles, topped with ice cream, whip cream, strawberry sauce, chocolate sauce, and cherries, spoiled to the max, but hey you only turn two once so go all out! I try to come to this diner at least once every time I visit Houston and I highly recommended it for all! The food is excellent, the service is excellent (super attentive), and the hot cocoa brings a heart warming smile to my face. Every time I have come, there's no wait, and they invite you to seat yourself and a friendly waitress will be right over. I appreciate the diner atmosphere that they've upheld. You'd never know this is what was in this little shopping center. It's a corner gem! If ordering breakfast and you can't decide between pancake or French toast, go with the French toast. I've had it many times and they haven't went wrong. I've heard the pancakes are good, but in my opinion the french toast looks better. For those mathematically challenged, they make the tipping easy for you by giving you the various totals including varying tip percentages on your check. It's awesome from start to finish.
