I was visiting Houston, Texas, and my dear friend, whom I met at the Hobby airport around the baggage area, and here we were going to meet appropriately and in detail. I was very excited to meet my new friend from Houston. I love this world when strangers living in different states or towns open up and start a new friendship. Since we live in two opposite directions and far from each other, I asked her to find a place somewhere in the middle. She sure knows her town and suggested this place which is out of town if you are staying in the Houston Uptown area. I got there at Noon, and my new friend welcomed me with a warm smile. This was a lovely countryside drive, and so happy to discover this place. It was such a beautiful location with a big yard all around and lots of parking with indoor and outdoor seating. The best part is I don't need to do parallel parking in Houston, Texas. I live in San Francisco, so seeing many lands everywhere is overwhelming. As usual, I skipped breakfast, and we both were starving. Our server Issac was very polite and kind. He gave us the menu, and I asked him if he could suggest any signature dish. We ordered chicken n waffles with iced tea on a warm day. The food came out very quickly, and the presentation and quality of the food were out of this world. We had an early dinner at the Elm & Magnolia. We ate inside and, unfortunately, the ambiance did not live up to my expectations. I expected an upscale, warm, romantic, cozy atmosphere which was the description I read. The prices are upscale but that's the extend of it. The restaurant inside is a bar with some tables scattered around. It didn't exude a warm or romantic vibe. The pictures make it look like it's on a nice piece of land with great views but it's just on a street among other businesses and there's a yard area. We ordered an appetizer, which was tasty. I think it was crab rangoon, honestly I forget but I do recall it was good. My husband has chicken parmigiana and I had a pizza. The chicken dish was good. The sauce was good and the chicken was juicy. My pizza, while it tasted good and the ingredients were fresh, was burnt on the bottom. I also would've liked the spinach to be placed by the sauce and cheese so it could cook a bit instead of on top...it was a little dry. The restaurant is always clean, they play good music, you can watch Astros games as well the ambience is for sure a vibe ! Everytime I bring my girls here they finish their plates because the food is soo damn good!!! Beet salad, zucchini fries, chicken Parmesan, the chorizo breakfast tacos, lobster ravioli, I'm just working my way down the menu. If you love bread treat yourself and order it definitely worth the cheat day with the homemade garlic butter is the stuff dreams are made of. She was super sweet and accommodating to us and was very patient while we figured out what to order! Parents! If you have kids, there's an outdoor lounge area and there's a soccer ball and plenty of room to run around while you eat and watch them within safe sight! :) a perk for sure! Now let's get to the good stuff! Food!!! We ordered the crispy Brussels sprouts, the crab cake, the Tex-Mex Benedict, the crispy pork cutlet sandwich, and the lamb shank! Recommend you try their truffle fries and duck confit...they are popular but we opted to order other dishes. The Brussels sprouts were seasoned and baked well. The crab cakes were lightly battered and crispy. The mashed sweet potato with pecans that came with the lamb shank was not too sweet so it really complimented the dish well. I will say, the hollandaise sauce was a bit bland, and so was the rest of what was on the Tex-Mex Benedict...it flat lined in terms flavor for us. But the crispy pork sandwich was Delish! Best discovery and surprise of this place was their extensive and amazing drink list! They had "Hell or High" watermelon beer and it was love at first sight! I had only tried and seen this beer in Seattle at a local restaurant, and never found it anywhere in Houston until now. Made my day!!! All in all, food was great! Service was great! My friend and I came for brunch on Saturday. We had such a pleasant experience. The weather was a perfect spring day with a really nice fresh breeze! We ordered the island juice mimosas- suggested by Sabrina who we absolutely loved! For the food we ordered the Duck plate, Chicken & waffles, and a salad. Both were tasty!! They have a few items on the brunch menu, but you can order for the main menu. I tried the chicken and waffles. It was alright: one of the tenders were cold in the middle.. it was pretty new on their menu so maybe they hadn't gotten it yet. Aside from that they were very tender and juicy! Everything was ok but not really good. The music was nice, not too loud but not really enjoyable. The food was fine but fairly immature, for example the bang bang shrimp was panko shrimp with a dab of sauce and sriracha on top. The pasta was the same panko chicken but with noodles and more of a cream sauce. The pasta was $22 which is really just too much for the amount and quality. Other things were more reasonably priced. The French fries were lack luster at best and nothing really stood out. The food was not bad quality but nothing really interesting or delightful. I would say just come here for atmosphere on a nice night. I made a reservation through Yelp which they had no idea about, but luckily they were able to accommodate our large party. Although they had a high chair, they do not have kids meals or drink cups, but they were able to accommodate us by making smaller portions and a to go coffee cup. I wouldn't recommend this place for families with kids though. They do not have a computer system so the staff is having to write your check up and add it by hand! This slows down the service even further than it already was and leaves a lot of room for human error. I saw on the menu they only split the check for parties evenly, which was not an issue for us, but could be for someone else, so worth mentioning. Overall it was a fine night and the place has a nice vibe, but definitely did not fit what we were looking for, so wish I had read more reviews. read more

The food - oh, my - was fantastic. Started off with the Crispy Brussel Sprouts appetizer ... could have made a meal outta those! The meatballs and spaghetti sauce I had was absolutely superb - perfect flavors for both. Patti said her chicken alfredo was also excellent. Then we just had to share a piece of the best carrot cake ever. Don't know where we put it all! Heard there was a meatball sandwich ... so, it will be next. When I saw this place online I have to admit, I was not sure it was "my kind of place". Totally wrong. It was a perfect date night place I could have a fancy martini or a special beer brew. Many items to choose from. The food was absolutely delicious. I had the philly cheese steak and initially thought it was a typical bar food but OMG furthest thing from it. One of the best and I love phillys. I saw on their events they have live bands from time to time. All the dishes were cooked to perfection, I had the sea bass with a miso glaze that was melt in your mouth perfect. They have a full bar and outside dining and they are dog friendly which I love. There was a live band who performed beautifully... the wait staff were so incredibly friendly and professional... the restaurant itself so cozy and inviting (family friendly) and now....the BEST PART!!! The FOOD!!! Omg!! Everything we ate was super delicious! We had 3 starters then a pizza and then our main entrees and honestly.... the food here is FIVE star. The presentation was very good/ must be a pro chef in that kitchen. The food was cooked with not too much butter/oil because I didn't feel too stuffed at the end. Add this tucked away restaurant to your list of cool places to dine. There's lots going on at this restaurant from what the staff told us. Music, outdoor seating, just a casual place to hang out and have a great meal. I believe the owners also do catering and special events, but the inside of the restaurant is not large but big enough to have a nice meeting with friends and I would think it would be fun to have a holiday party here. Had to threaten to leave in order to be served our food. 20 minutes before we were given water. 40 minutes before our order was taken. An hour 20 to be served. Never given water refills, not offered dessert or coffee, had to get up over and over to ask for basics like a menu or the check. Service seemed disorganized, no hostess, no one expediting, no one clearing tables, servers lacked hustle and experience (constantly playing catch up and no clear roles or manager) they seem like super nice people lacking proper training.
